    Great vid! Haden and I were thinking of doing this too. We joked about trying to take 10 000 shots in a single day. Maybe we should do a vid like this first though 😁

      Coach Jeremy, I started shooting pucks last week for the first time in 10 years. My goal is to lose a ton of weight and join a men's league by next Fall. I've noticed tremendous stiffness and pain in my fingers and wrists, especially my left hand and left tendon near my thumb. Do you recommend anything? I've only done two days because of my work schedule. First day was 250 to 300 shots, and second day was 150 to 200 shots so maybe it was just a ton of shots all at once. I'm thinking of getting new gloves, since I'm in love with the Warrior LX series and all I have right now are a pair of okay RBX. If you guys have any recommendations of how I can keep shooting and avoid injuries I'd greatly appreciate it. I love I didn't forget how to do my slap shot. My release needs some work and I need to practice putting my outer hand (left) out more since I shoot right so I can drive the stick better and flex it and get a better snap. Let me know what feed back you have. I really want the puck to Launch and EXPLODE off my blade every time with accuracy.

    Quick comment about elbow pain: I had the same thing and it was tricep tendonitis (which is quite rare in athletes), not golfer's elbow. Big difference and the treatment is also different. If you have tricep tendonitis, rest is not the cure (long term). If you stop pretty much immediately, you'll be okay for a while but it'll come back eventually. To cure it, you need to start with isometric exercises, then supported tricep exercises, followed by regular tricep-strengthening exercises. Continued exercise (that doesn't target your tricep) will also help recovery greatly (more blood flow), as will heat on the elbow. Don't self-diagnose - get a physiotherapist to check it out.

    I did this last summer and ended up at the same point you did, but instead of my elbow, it was the underside of my bottom hand's wrist. Those tendons are still pretty beatup even from regular physio trying to strengthen it back up. So your words of caution are definitely a good idea, shooting hard for hundreds of pucks every day with a ton of flex into your stick will beat up on your joints. Be careful and don't over do it.

    Shooting with the release ahead of you makes a big difference. Back about 3-4 years ago I made slow motion videos of my sons shot. At the time he was around 12 years old. He’s now about to turn 16. Back when we watched the slow motion videos together, I showed him a few adjustments like bending and dropping his knee down a bit and using his hips more when he shoots. We watched videos of Brad Marchand and Phil Kessel and a few others. They both have a very good snapshot that has a release that’s far ahead of the front foot. My son is a good player that plays in Tier one elite u16. Coaches and players are always given him compliments on his shot and how fast his release is. Many ask what he does to get it like that. He tells them I shoot a lot.
    This isn’t a bragging comment. Just agreeing with the tips in this video. They will truly help.

I played through most of it but my work outs were definitely reduced. It went away in one arm after about 2 months, but my other arm took about 5 months.

    Allright kids and those new to the game, 30 days is a start, but really it takes years. So don't be disappointed after 30 days, no one in this earth learnd how to shoot in 30 days.
    What I'm trying to say is that the guy in the video has obviously years of experience in hockey, so he's not starting from scratch. Have that in mind and keep grinding, and more than anything have fun. 👍

    • @JP-dm6gi
      @JP-dm6gi 11 месяцев назад

      Forgot to emphasize how physically draining it is to shoot pucks for a long period of time. As in this video, your hands will be blistering for sure. Also in the latter half of the training it is truly all about grinding on as your upperbody is getting stiff and sore.
      But it will be worth the agony. 👌

    I’ve been shooting a lot recently, maybe more than I thought. I remember having a really good shooting day probably the best of my life. Pucks were flying like rockets. I think I reached the point of diminishing returns after that, I kept on shooting, shot didn’t seem to be getting better. Got so lost in the sauce I thought about becoming a lefty. Elbow started to hurt, just a little. I knew this was the kind of thing I couldn’t push through but I’m glad for it. As I am now, my shot has reached its plateau and the elbow pain was almost a way of saying more can’t be attained by repetition alone.

    Lets NOT hurt ourselves. But yes i wanna see the video. I am 59 and started playing again after 17 yrs. I started with dropins in december 2020 and joined a c+ level league in mid April. I have been watching yalls conditioning work out videos since mid may 2021 and i believe they have helped alot. Funny part is, by just thinking about what workouts i should do i "invented" my own routines and some were almost exactly like the ones in yalls videos. I was doing jumps and leaps. I was running UP GRADES to get my core and legs stronger. My lower abdomen was and is a lil shredded after starting again but i got it now where i can do pullups without feeling like wolverine stuck his claws through my lower abdomen. Over all i love youseguys videos. I have about 4 maybe 5 points in 6 games and have been told by players on opposing team that they love watching me play!!! I was astounded but gratified. I have good hockey sense and am ALWAYS in the mix. Hell, i RIPPED a slapshot from center ice redline in my last game and the goalie had to blocker it away. Labeled for top right corner. Anyway i am doing the Mcdavid stutter steps, the knee tuck leaps. The side to side leaps, the speed skate extension hold, the extension ankle movement for the finishing stroke. Overall i believe yall have helped my skating a bit. Oh yeah the hip flexor workout where one leg pushes hips up and other leg is straight and raised and lowered. Keep up the good work. Unfortunately i have no place to work on my shot just yet... laters

    I also had elbow pain from shooting lots. But I found that wearing an arm brace or something to wear right at the top of your forearm just below the elbow got rid of that pain and I was able to keep shooting a lot more without having to worry about my elbow as much.

    • @joegross4366
      @joegross4366 3 года назад

      Definitely, getting a tennis elbow band to relieve that tension & pain is huge. Don’t push through it at that point though, risk of more serious damage is high and it leads to compensation and injury elsewhere. For high volume training like this I’d recommend a full arm compression sleeve or a “shooting” sleeve (like many basketball players wear). It can make a world or difference as a preventative measure without the risk.
      The older I get the more I’ve learned/needed to rely on preventative compression... also, don’t get old. 😂

    I feel like part of the problem was in the programming of the challenge. If you told me that you were going to do any single exercise at 100% speed/effort for 15 minutes for 30 days with no rest I'd could tell you that's a recipe for injury.
    Some things I'd consider changing - cycling easy/medium/hard days. Two ways to do that could be by switching in Blue (4oz) and Orange (10oz) pucks or altering the time limit OR better still - Altering the # of pucks shot. Think of it like any other workout. You wouldn't fire off 15 minutes of bicep curls. You'd do sets of say 10 with rest periods. So shoot only 10 pucks, then go pick them up (so there's frequent rest). Additionally without a time limit, you're not trying to "beat the clock" for volume. You can take your time and focus on good technique.
    Another thing I'd look at is what exercises you could do to off-set imbalances and incorporate those. So maybe you're shooting 5 sets of 10 pucks, then you're doing some YTLs, deadbugs or band pull aparts or something (I'll leave it to you to figure out the best off-sets as I'm not even totally sure those things would help imbalances).
    For an example of how it could be run, take a look at Dan John's "10,000 swing challenge". Which could serve as a decent model. It's 20 days of 500 kettlebell swings done over a month (so there's rest days built in). Done in sets of 15, then 35 followed by a strength movement from a list. I think if you copied that model, a 5k shot challenge is doable for most people - especially if you mix between slap, wrist and back-hand shots, incorporated exercises to help imbalance and incorporated rest/active recovery days.
    Heck you could take it one step further and add little wrinkles to the process to add challenge by way of shooting drills - elevating the rear foot for example, having to stick handle around an obstacle to get the shot off, or do a mcdavid shuffle before firing off a shot among other ideas. All of a sudden you have a new program called "30 days to better shooting".

I had to completely stop shooting for months. I think technique work or choosing shots with less shock loading on the elbow would be ok - you could probably practice your weight transfer/technique/power on wrist shots everyday year round and be fine, but blow up your elbow with max effort snappers after just a week.

    Thoughts/question from a beginner:
    While more practical and probably more comfortable, it would seem that practicing shooting the puck while wearing shoes vs hockey skates might have some disadvantages. One, is that an obvious height differential exists between the two (shoes and skates) - might this height difference slightly alter the players proper shooting technique and body form/mechanics once they hit the ice wearing skates or vice versa?

    • @hockeytraining

    A huge but very easy mistake is training with the height of your in-game stick on land. Cut down another stick to the height your in-game one reaches on your face, the transition from dry land training to on-ice will be more fluid and your stick wont feel too short.

    Loved the video! got recommended to your channel by Hockey Psychology! I've been out of hockey for almost 8 years due to concussion, but now i want to get back into things and play Men's League but I've noticed my shot is not at all what it used to be! Especially my wrist shot! what can i do to get back to where i was? i know you suggest not doing this 30 day challenge but to be honest i'm really tempted

      Glad you found my videos! I'd start with the 6-Second Shot Power System on the Hockey Training TV app. hockeytraining.tv/programs/6-second-snap-shot-solution
      This includes shooting pucks 2-3 times per week and some daily bodyweight exercises to help your shot.

    you don't change your leading leg from time to time? i alternate my weight shift when shooting and sometimes shoot off my opposite leg when i have time to set it up. i get a bit more accuracy that way.

    • @hockeytraining
      @hockeytraining  3 года назад

      You'll see in the video I worked off both legs. The footage was limited so I may have more footage off my left leg, but I work both.

    For dryland shooting like this, would your recommend taking a little length off your stick to accommodate the lack of skates, or just use my normal length stick (which is admittedly longer than it’s supposed to be)?

    • @hockeytraining
      @hockeytraining  3 года назад +1

      Yes you want to use a shorter stick. I cut my down to where mine would be on skates when I wear the shoes I'm going to be shooting in

    I injured my hammy for life after getting an EZ net and taking a billion slappers and wrist shots (well my slap shots are kind of glorified snapshots lol) so BE CAREFUL. If you plan to do this, part of it was from picking pucks up because it was in the grass. But shooting on dry land involves slightly different mechanics and it involves the hamstring muscle a little more I think. Just listen to your body and start out slowly!

    I have been shooting on average around 50 pucks for the last 2 years although I'm 14, but I have not yet hit the point of negative results.
    I feel like I'm improving every day.

    How far away from the tarp did you shoot? Did you do just wrist/snap shots? or slap shots too? Not sure I saw any highlights of slap shots

    • @hockeytraining
      @hockeytraining  3 года назад +1

      Not sure the exact distance, roughly 20 feet. I worked mainly on snap shots, but also did some backhand and slap shots. I'm not a big fan of slap shots on synthetic ice without skates so I'll have to bring my skates to the HQ 👍🏻
