My dad was pulled over for “drunk driving.” The officer made him do all the bs testing before the breathalyzer, and my dad was clean. He still gave my dad a ticket for “speeding” after my dad was found not drunk (the officer never said anything abt speed before that.) The officer straight up told my dad how his bodycam “wasn’t working” as well. My dad said to the officer he had a dash cam and was going to fight it in court. when my dad showed up to court, THE OFFICER NEVER EVEN SHOWED UP. Judge immediately cleared my dad of the ticket and let him leave without even seeing the dash cam footage. That stuff saves you from bs like that.

What happened was the kid's friends were on the other side of the street and kept telling him to run across, and he made a fatal error in judgment in even being able to make it. There was no way my dad could've stopped or slowed down in time to avoid the kid. My dad was initially charged and the parents tried to sue him, but all of that was dropped in court because there were witnesses and he was found not at-fault. If he didn't have those witnesses who were honest, that could've ended completely differently.

In other words, its a gamble where sometimes its allowed and sometimes not. You also need a certain type of dashcam. You cant have one that permanently records and saves video material. It needs to be one that constantly overwrites old material. If you then had an accident, you take out the sd card, so the footage doesnt get overwritten. My older sister is getting a dashcam because of an accident she go into. My sister was on her way home from shopping, she was at a stop sign near a corner where you can’t really see much if someone is coming from the left corner. She did a full stop checked both her left and right it was clear she had the right of way, as soon as she pull out of the stop sign a car comes flying around 35 mph which the speed limit for the corner is 25 mph. So he hits her head on, he bounces of her car and hits a light poll, her car got damage to the point of no repairs, her insurance went up because she didn’t have a dash cam and was at fault even thought she followed the laws. A few months come by and she gets sued because “she didn’t have the right away and that the driver who caused the accident was seeking compensation for his injury’s. This law suit was all because he didn’t have a seat belt on. So if your gonna own a car be sure to have a dash cam to save the trouble from law suit and increased insurance bills.

In my country there was a similar happening, which sadly ended with the driver beaten to death in front of his two little children. The victim was also a little child, but was not injured. It was obviously a huge case, and even though a dashcam wouldn't prevent the beatings, it could have help to get stricter prison sentences for the perpetrators. This happened before dashcams tho, but these can happen even today. So get a dashcam, and watch for your children!
