How Tough is this Fishing getting?!

  • Graeme drives off to fish a stream he visits about once a year for some Grayling fishing, but it has changed since the last time he ran a float through its clear waters. So he ups sticks and amazingly packs up fishing early as he cannot believe what he has seen, and decides to try an hour on a tiny creek the next day. There is not much time to fish and at first he is shocked as he finds a fallen tree in the one swim he wanted to try. But Lady Luck finally smiles and he gets a surprise catch. Then he backpacks into Mike's woodland to cut some deadwood for a carving project but stops off at the Ash cabin for a cookup..It’s a classic case of getting the best that you can from any session in life...Enjoy.

    I live near the Stour in wimborne Dorset.
    Our matches over the past 3 years have dwindled from 30lb Roach to 2 minnows.
    Last match 4 weeks ago was abandoned at 1pm.
    A sad reflection on how things are. Otters, cormorants and raw sewage

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      And that's the Dorset Stour !!...what was a relatively large prime English river with lots of good Roach fishing and of course Pike...And matchmen know how to catch fish that's what is scary about your comment..If they can't produce what chance have the rest of us got ?..

    • @shaunjones6049
      @shaunjones6049 6 месяцев назад

      Otters were hunted for a reason, considered as much as a pest as foxes.
      Hunted, shot, trapped, all year round Otters were still common in the countryside .
      The use of pesticides which got into the Otters food supply made them sterile and Otter numbers crashed which led to a ban on controlling otter numbers and ultimately a ban on the pesticides which caused their numbers to crash. Now Otters are protected their numbers will rocket to the detriment of all water birds ( including some of the more endangered), amphibians, and fish . Fishery’s can protect their interests with electric fencing and restocking 🤔expense but possible in some cases 👍. The real impact of Otters will be on wild fish stocks 😔 in particularly migratory fish.😔 🙄As the great myth of nature will find its own balance 😳spouted by the likes of Chris Packem Otters will continue to devastate the country’s wildlife and breed to numbers never seen in the history of this country.
      Wild fish stocks will continue to crash 😔 but let’s face it Joe Public doesn’t care about fish 😔

    • @ottercarpUK
      @ottercarpUK 6 месяцев назад +1

      I have seen a decline, in fish around that area over the last 12 years, but I've also seen a decline in cormorants over the last 3 years. As for otters, they have always been on the Stour particularly around Wimborne, so I think you need to be looking for another excuse as to why your not catching. Pollution and run off is probably the biggest factor and possibly new housing, but definitely not otters and probably not cormorants. Someone was telling me recently how their match results were poor, around Blandford, and by chance they moved downstream about a mile and results improved. The overall decline in river's all over the country is shocking. But it starts at the bottom, with pollution, agriculture and road run off and water abstraction. When they are addressed river's should get back to normal.

    Fair comment.
    Not sure about the cormorants though.
    On our still waters around Ringwood I see so many cormorants expecially when the rivers are in flood as they have been for some time now 😊

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  6 месяцев назад +2

      I reckon they can't cope with a fast flood water plus it will be coloured so they can't see their prey so the migrate to stillwaters which will be clearer. That's my theory anyway.

    • @ottercarpUK
      @ottercarpUK 6 месяцев назад

      Cormorants do appear to be in larger numbers, particularly on the Blashford lakes complex. Having said, about the Stour around Wimborne, I stick by the fact I don't see as many now, as 3 to 4 years ago, but at Blandford last week, I counted 30, admittedly it could of been some of the same a few times, but that is quite excessive. I rarely see that amount.

    Hi Graeme, love the videos. I wonder why you don't ever seem to use cheese as bait. Was always a good bait for me when night ledger fishing on the Thames at Hampton Court. As a young man, me and a couple of mates used to fish there from work. We used have corks attached to string in turn fixed to the rod rest. With a paper clip imbedded in the cork and one end bent over so as to hang on the reel line. Shining a torch at the cork and watching for bites. We used to catch plenty of decent size bream 2/3 lbs. Maybe, like a lot of people you try to avoid dairy products lol.

      You are indeed correct. I rarely use it now but back in the 1970's it was my go-to bait for Chub fishing on the Hampshire Avon. Sometimes floatfished,mostly freelined watching them take it...I must try it again.

    And the EA won't shift that fallen tree as it's not blocking the flow straight across. It's creating a nice crease that will help to scour the bed of the river and it also creates a habitat for other fish. That's their theory and sod the angler.

      The foreigners around here take everything they catch too, the canal on my doorstep was full of pike at one time now you could spend all day casting a lure around and get nothing.

    • @TAFishing
      @TAFishing  6 месяцев назад +1

      They do seem to go for the Pike. Though one bailiff told me he found them barbecuing a ...Chub !!!....Yuk...All the old books say they are full of bones...

      @mattgosling2657 6 месяцев назад +2

      @TAFishing yeah I've heard them saying perch is tasty and I know carp is what they mostly have for Christmas Dinner and I heard pike is full of bones also. I've never heard of anyone getting punished for taking fish from anywhere, it honestly seems to have ruined the river and canal which is literally 30ft from my doorstep. I'm not saying poaching alone has destroyed the fishing but it always good before all the EE people turned up so what else should people blame

      It's a real shame what's happening to this country,all round not just fishing.
      It's us the people who have been forced to live with all the new imported negatives that impact on our daily quality of life and wellbeing.
      It's wrong we were never considered and given a choice for our own futures destiny.

    Mr P I can understand your frustration on that river !!! You right it Was disgusting about 10 years ago I use to fish river wandel in Wimbledon chalk stream and it was in terrible state similar to that river you were on full of trolleys ,bikes beer cans bottles allways traffic cones why??? Except your river had more dog s## t !!! 😂anyways the fishing there was amazing there was good sise chub barbel ,trout big roach so me and a mate of mine put some waders on and cleared the lot and it was a pleasure to fish there after that then 2 years later Thames river water treatment killed all the fish with a chemical spill and we were gutted 😢but I can honestly say I never once stepped in dog shit there 😂

      I was on my second bootful,and a local angler I talked to said he got a bootful as well !....Lovely place...not . I think I remember the fish loss on the Wandle...in fact I think I used to cross over it when I used to do my weekly drive to the East End factories. Or maybe that was another small river.

    Reminds me of some of the creeks I’ve fished over here ( US), people throw their trash and junk in them and they don’t care, geez, somebody like that needs to be thrown in the damn water themselves, sorry sobs!! I used to have a few different farm ponds that I could fish in but the farm owner or manager stopped all fishing bc somebody left their trash laying on the bank, instead of picking it up and taking it with them, only takes one sob to ruin it for everyone else, you know? Stuff like that just burns me up! The creeks and rivers over here, if they run through private property then the owner has a right to post it “No trespassing “! And if you get caught trespassing they will prosecute you to the full extent of the law and if a game warden catches you it’ll be even worse because they have more power than a state police officer. They can take your rods and reels, tackle box, everything if they see fit and keep it all, oh and if any game warden catches you littering, could be very bad too! Anyhow, good good deal Graeme 👍👍🤙🏻✌🏻

    Nice video Graeme 🎣👍. I totally agree with @mickhardstaff6605 . What is your fishing license money going to. . And who is responsible for keeping junk out of the rivers, police ( ha ha) m.n.r officers, or the government. Cos if & when i go back to England, I WOULD NOT BE buying a fishing license if that garbage was in any rivers i would fish. In the court systems. You pay for something. That is NOT BEING maintain, you DON'T HAVE TO PAY. . So Graeme you could get the Totally Awesome army. To band together , & submit a bill to the Government . ( why are we paying for a fishing license) when all you do is snag , shopping trolleys, traffic cones, bicycles, & many more undecided objects. My is my 2 cents worth. .
