A lot of people find his films really relaxing...we know as we get comments and p.m's from people saying the films have helped...They are all outdoors and he builds stuff and cooks up on camp fires. I'm a yank and this is my favorite fishing show on all of youtube. I have learned so many little tricks on here that no one over here does....and they work wonderfully. My fav trick I learned from you....feeding with cooked rice when fishing with maggots. It really does work very well!

    • @SONGSTICKS
      @SONGSTICKS 3 года назад +2

      Ooh... looks like I just learned something too :O) Cooked rice huh. Here's an offering from me then. Can't afford to buy boillies at stupid money so came up with my own alternative which works really well. Make up some bread mash and crumble a couple of weetabix into it, plus a flavouring of your choice. Kneed well, then roll into boillie sized balls and bake in the oven for about 20 mins. This forms a nice crust and can then be threaded onto a hair rig. If you bake them a bit longer they become pop ups and keep for ages !
      Also... I set aside a lump of the stodge mix before baking to use as paste, which sticks to a hook and stays on well. Especially good for float fishing for Crucians etc

  • @tribsat100
    @tribsat100 3 года назад +13

    Another gem Graeme thankyou. Those lumps onthe oak leaf are called “galls’ they are egg pouches for various critters usually wasps and the like. I just googled it

    If you use the maggot feeder float, make sure you use an adaptor that spreads the weight of the float. If not, the line can snap on the cast, and deffinately on the strike. They are fantastic for catch lots in quick succession. Another wee tip:- Next time you have soma acorns, 'pult them out over your boilies, because they sound like more bait going in. TTFN

    I’m so glad to see you back at “Fresh” water fishing Graeme, don’t get me wrong I like the salt water shenanigans but my first love is fresh water! Hell, I’m just tickled to see you fishing, period.!! You definitely pick my spirits up when I’m feeling down or when I have a bad day and these days My bad days outnumber my good days, I need to get out fishing myself but I have no way of getting anywhere and all my children( which they are all grown), live out of town, actually live out of state and since this old COVID-19 “crap” has been going on, they have not been able to make it in for a visit and they are my ride, my only way of going fishing, because I do not drive anymore, I am not allowed to drive anymore, my reaction time isn’t good enough for the “man” to let me behind the wheel to drive! And that is a BIG BUMMER!!!! Oh well, at least I have RUclips and I can watch you, among others, go fishing different places too and different styles, sometimes! Anyways, fantastic buddy! Always good seeing you catching fish, no matter what they are!! Tight lines to you and hope you catch a big one, or two, or three or four!! lol! 👍👍🤘✌🏻

Ask in a tackle shop.That way you might get a driver you could join,have some chat and maybe nail a few fish. Glad the films help ,it certainly is a weird world out there and making the films helps keep my mind concentrated as well. At present I can still get out,but lots of our areas getting getting shut down..probably coming to ours as well .I have been working double time when the weather allows so don't worry about weekly films..I am currently working on August ...2021...I just hope the hard drives don't burst !..Stay safe over there...

      @@TAFishing - thank you much Graeme for the reply, I appreciate it very much! Yeah, we have places kind of like fishing clubs here, they are actually called paylakes, and I have one I used to fish years ago, actually I grew up fishing it, and it’s probably about 30-35 miles from me, one way! But, yes sir I talked to a guy last year that was fishing it quite a bit and he also worked there too, but we were texting back and forth there for a while and he told me that if I ever needed a ride there he would come by and get me, well, then when I was ready to go I never could get a hold of him again! I hate when someone blows smoke up your a#% , and they are not good at their word, just burns me up! Oh well, anyways, I have another friend who lives about 65 miles from me, he has his own fishing lake and fully stocked with big catfish, my brother and I fished there back in May of 2018, and we caught some impressive cats too, he ( brother) actually caught his PB from there, twice in a row, and I caught 5 cats myself ( 25 lbs or bigger, each) anyway, that friend of mine who owns that lake is just so busy most of the time it’s hard to catch up with him, I can’t just go to his lake and start fishing, no one can, not on their own, he has to be there with you, because it’s on his parents property and they don’t want just anyone showing up, you know? So, understandable! But, I’ll keep trying, no doubt! Thank you again my friend, I really appreciate it! You take care over there and stay safe too, you and yours! 👍👍🤘✌🏻

    Hi Graeme, the float is a "Loc slide" feeder float for float legering...cast in...bail arm off...float rises to surface and lays flat...bail arm on, take up slack and cock the float. The kink allows the float to travel up the line while slack but when you tighten down it locks the float in position. Used it many a time when float fishing with 15ft under the rod tip. 😀

      Thanks for the explanation ,I couldn't work out what the kink in the float stem was for...I sort of understand how it works, but have never seen one before.

    Just a thought I’m your age and agree don’t night fish as much this time of year. Yes definitely need a ground sheet but have you ever thought of an overwrap for bivvy it keeps you warmer also stops the condensation. Great video as always. Miss fishing there up in Newcastle now not many lakes this way so lot of travelling now

    To your question about the growths on the oak leaf. That’s where the gall wasp lays it’s lava the lava fall in the autum and the lava grub around in the fallen leaves I think I’m right anyone else knows different please correct me

      Exactly..I can take a tip from freshwater and apply it to saltwater,or vice-versa .I recently made a film using clip-release trolling leads that I used for Spring/Chinook Salmon on the West coast of Vancouver Island and it worked well here in the UK...always something to try in fishing...and doing different fish keeps you sharp.

    I can't remember what those floats are called but the idea is to fill them up with maggots and catch on the drop. They're ok but not very sensitive so generally better for carp and larger fish that will give positive bites. I don't know what the kink in the stem is for, never seen it before but that rig was definitely dodgy.
