The four confidences in the process, the instruction, the past and in learning. It's 24 pages short and to the point written by the charismatic heavyweight boxer Edward Latimore. Stepping into the ring knowing you can get hurt can overwhelm the toughest combative sports athletes. Ed shares his insights on how he built his confidence, leaving out the usual self-development fluff.
Taking action, learning along the (right) way, eliminating mistakes from happening again and actively seeking good sources ― that's how confidence is built.
"The Four Confidences are based on cold, hard experience, not theory. The same way I got confidence in my boxing, mathematical, and social abilities is what I teach here. When I wasn't confident in my self to stay sober, I relied on these techniques to help me stop drinking." ― Ed Latimore

A smart man learns from his mistakes. A stupid man doesn't learn from his mistakes. A wise man learns from someone else's mistakes.
The idiot doesn't think that he can make a mistake.

Back at it again! This one's been a long time in the making. Hope you like how it turned out. I know plenty of you can relate. I've no doubt trusting yourself / holding yourself in high esteem is one of the key things for a good life. Having insecurities is nothing to be worried about as long as you're working on yourself.
Taking action, learning along the (right) way, eliminating mistakes from happening again and actively seeking good sources ― that's how confidence is built.

PS: Ed's a great and inspiring guy, because he's real. It seems to me very few things are real today. That's why I decided to share his content adding a bit of my own. *Thanks for watching and being patient.*

"If you are going through hell, keep going" probably my favorite quote ever...im sure everyone is afraid to hit rock bottom but if you're already rock bottom in hell, I think a certain strength is developed by continuing to move forward in the presence of hellish situations....at least that's what it means to me

You're personal story on this path to confidence reminded me of my own story: An abusive and pride driven father, myself suffering through depression, anxiety and crippling insecurity until I took up martial Arts in the second half of high school. By the end, I was fearless, and confident like never before.

This video has really hit home for me. I had confidence issues growing up probably b/c my dad was abusive and egotistical as well. I'd figured having no dad was better than one that always puts you down. If I didn't know how to do something he would thoroughly shame me b/c he always learned by watching (with no instructions) and doing things " automatically." And he always had to bring it to the next level to gain the upper hand if I fought back he would threaten to kill me. But once I let my ego go and let him be the leader, as he refers himself as, I was able to get enough space to make plans to gain my independence and confidence. Thx for the video I finally feel like I can share with someone who experienced something similar.
p.s. boxing has really helped regain my confidence in defending myself. But most importantly it removed my fear when in a confrontation, allowing me to think clearly enough to talk him down from killing me in my sleep (since he now knows he can't beat me in a fight).

"if I fought back he would threaten to kill me."
That's not a father (although biologically he might be), those are the words of a psychopath. Sorry you had to go through that (I went through similar, and constantly battle the feelings of inferiority planted in me). Hope you're in a better place today.

I'm not really big into these videos based on the fact that they practically tell you what you should do, but this guys process is natural and filled with experience. He introduces the Idea and articulates the idea both verbal and visual, a lot of others more or less just tell you how to act. I'm not sure why RUclips suggested this guy to me but it is nice to hear some form of rational thought and process.

thank you, thank you, thank you for bringing up the point that having a father who is detrimental to your mental health ( the nicest way I can put it) is worse then not having one at all. I'm so sick of hearing 'At least you had one' How does that make any sense at all?

    • @Illacertus
      @Illacertus  7 лет назад +4

They can't relate, nor do they care to. The fatherless have challenges, yes. But people assume abusive fathers "can't be that bad." Their kids didn't have a bloody father in their life, either. Instead, on top of all the other struggles, they had a man whose sole purpose seemed to be to make their lives living hell. Life's hard enough without being mentally (& physically) tortured by the person one is supposed to look up to. It's called "being a father" for a reason. That title is to be earned. It's not a "Congratulations-you-had-unprotected-sex badge."
Psychopathic "father" beats the living shit out of "his children" every day for no reason & pushes them to near suicide. Meanwhile the fatherless are fucking free to live. They can find some other role model/mentor figure & move on. That's hard, but not as hard. The others try to escape or deal with a cold-hearted tyrant that traumatizes them for life, when they're most helpless. Some of the greatest people in history had no parents to hold them back, even less so broken and life-hating despots.

illacertus Not to mention the worst part which is the subconscious programming you receive from an abusive dad, that stays with you into adulthood, affecting your relationships, work life, how you see yourself etc.. You have to deprogram and work to rebuild your mind to a healthy state as much as possible if you want any happiness and satisfaction before you die. My dad was a narc too. I’m recovering and I’m 39.

Just don't become too confident to the point of arrogance. Too much optimism or confidence just increases the height of the drop. I learned to be content with the outcome. I still believe in myself and push myself to the limit, but if I fail my will isn't shaken. In the end the best we can do is the best we can do and there's absolutely no shame in that. The beauty in that as well is you never truly know what your genuine limit is.

2 Do everything I possibly can to meet a mentor

this knowledge is already known by most of people interested in the subject, there are infinite copies of this just on youtube, but no one explain the actual mental process that you have to do in order to stick with things you already know, ie : i know smoking is bad yet i smoke. => explain the mental process "the steps" to delete/edit an idea instead of explaining that smoking is bad. That, would really help people.

I enjoyed this, thanks! However I have an issue with the argument that if you're going through hell you should just keep going and never quit. I think it's more important, and speaks more to your understanding of yourself and your strengths and weaknesses, that you know and learn when it is right to quit, and instead pursue a different path where you can be more successful. Continuing to hammer away at the same hellish path until success is achieved (which may never come) is going to be the best path to depression for many, not success. I'm not saying don't keep going and don't push yourself to achieve your goals, but don't be afraid to take a step back and see the many other paths you could take, and recognise when it's time to try them.

It's strange, it's this pain that pushed my father and me to archive a lot in life. But this has to stop with me. I won't become like my father.

Coldfire Mamun want to know a secret? When I was a kid my mentor used to say that his dad would tell him “son I love you, I just don’t know how to show you” don’t try to be different than your dad because if you do you end up rejecting half of who you are. Become a better version of your dad instead. However to understand the depth of what I’m talking about you have to open up your heart rather than close it. Once you open up your heart you will understand your dad better than he understands himself.

I’m so proud that I have developed that mentality. If you want to grow even more surround yourself with eagles, and stop pecking with chickens.

You have to mentor yourself, my buddy.. if you feel bullied, you learn to defend yourself. If people ridiculde you, you learn to accept humility, & laugh. Trial and errors no matter how worse or anguish they can build resilience and perseverance. Good illustration, will look towards more content.🙋hi5

When i saw the conclusion with the 4 points and you read them out loud i kept thinking of the movie "karate Kid" (the older one of course). Anyone else?
And also I very recently discovered your channel through your video "The 48 laws of power" and within that one video i became a subscriber and fell in love with your videos... and then 2 days later you make a video like this, you really know how to boost people through anything.
