That would've been fine in ancient Greece but it doesn't fly now. Appearance>substance. There are a number of ways to pass something that isn't true for truth.
I worked at a place where people are constantly at each other's throats. Many leave and cant handle the toxicity. It was thanks t this book i mamaged to stay away from these people as much as possible and still keep my job.
What i find most interesting is that many of these laws contradict each other, you cant simply remember to do all of these things all the time but rather choose carefully, consider which tactics best suit the situation and target.

This is a double edged sword. A lot of people today go against the majority just for the sake of not being in the majority. Just because it's a publicly accepted truth/trend doesn't mean it's false/bad. Sometimes just a little bit of nuance is enough.

World is complex, and people are complex too. When we see a "crowd" we just see a specific facet of them, but they have countless ones. Take some "average joe" who sides with 80% of people in 80 different things and you will find out there are just 124 people like him in entire world (7,000,000,000*(0.80^80)).
This book is a gift to those who were deceived by their fellows and didn't know how they could have seen it coming, much less how to deal with those cunning people. In a nutshell, the most important learning I take from this book and that can be applied to all situations: be mindful that everybody wants to be considered valuable and special. All of us feel insecure. So if you want to get along with people and live free of trouble, watch you words and behaviour, because you might unadvertantly convey you don´t respect or value the person you are talking to. You don´t need to overact this. Just look into the eye, listen, and choose your words.
Totally agreed and I’ve had a personal experience of being accused of having “narcissistic personality disorder” funnily enough by some body who I thought carried those traits but I never expressed my opinion. Even though I’m aware that I have high self esteem and not narcissism the opinion of the individual made me question myself for quite a while and knocked my confidence right down. Through self assessment I’m not back on track

For the past 5 years, I was totally heartbroken. Running after my ex make me lose my value and focuses. In 2022, I accidentally opened the book of 48 lows of power and discovered that my ex used these lows against me. If I would have read this book long time ago, many bad things happened might not happen. Thanks Lord that I read it now.

This book is amazing! I’ve used a lot of the laws in my life and with my Human Resources career. I use this book when I do career coaching or HR consulting with individual clients that need assistance in the workplace.
If you study well enough on any given subject it will be programmed in your mind as if it were normal. i.e. the way you were raised and how you grew up is the way you are now or orginally were. You can always change the old you, but it is inevitable for leaks of your past to seep through the cracks of extreme pressure. It just takes mastery.

A lot of these laws require you to be a worse human being. Either you become an asshole or you get trampled on by assholes. This is the dilemma that I've always found myself in.
Most people, after spending enough time with a person will know who is real and who is acting. You can't play a whole room/team/social group without someone watching your words, actions and seeing if your intentions add up. The major red flag is someone who can get on with everyone and influence most of them without actually doing much themselves.

Law #0: Master all 48 laws and when asked, tell them you don't know about these laws. So then they will use these laws against you and you are able to easily dodge and counter all attacks. When asked again if you really don't know about the law, just say you got lucky.

Your using something someone much smarter than you designed and Crafted by someone more skilled than you. All you did was purchase it and now you are "the top of the food chain" The lion in it's base form without any support from other lions is undefeatable by you a naive and foolish human who feels accomplished for things he did not earn.
Finished the book. While it's important to learn different perspectives, I think VERY FEW people should follow these principles. If you are a "win at all costs" kind of person that doesn't mind getting your hands dirty and hurting innocent people, then sure this book is for you. Even if you are that kind of person, there are two major issues I have with this book: 1) It doesn't focus on teamwork whatsoever. It's a SHARP contrast to a book like Extreme Ownership, where Navy Seal operatives always take blame for any team failure. In many cases, the team/company/business has to beat others; teamwork is ABSOLUTELY imperative in those cases. 2) It doesn't factor in survivorship bias. The stories in this book are only success stories (or failures when people break the rules). I'm sure many, many people have lost their careers and even lives by following these principles (blaming others for everything, always hogging the success, being deceptive around others, etc). However, the failures never make it to stories we hear, only successes do.

Could you imagine having the ability to best anyone in discussion? You wouldn't have to be mean or deceitful, you could be a genuinely nice person to all you meet with no fear, you wouldn't have to worry about them attempting to use or abuse you because you would see it in conversation, you would never have to fight, you could live a generous and peaceful life and you would be practically bullet proof, socially speaking. That's the dream.

I crafted this summary of the 48 Laws of Power in anger. It is the end result of 2 years of animating all chapters condensed for your viewing pleasure. Surely, you've heard the phrase "Hate the game, not the player." I'm exposing the game and the players for you.
Being honest and speaking the truth has been a punishing and not at all rewarding experience, since most people will always shoot the messenger. I aim to raise awareness and arm the clueless for self-protection. I am not advocating becoming a manipulating and ruthless sociopath.
I can't respect those who don't understand the difference. It's a self-improvement book, not the work of the devil. Robert Greene is all about intense realism. In a nutshell, the most important learning I take from this book and that can be applied to all situations: be mindful that everybody wants to be considered valuable and special. All of us feel insecure. So if you want to get along with people and live free of trouble, watch you words and behaviour, because you might unadvertantly convey you don´t respect or value the person you are talking to. You don´t need to overact this. Just look into the eye, listen, and choose your words.
But remember enemies are more helpful than friends sometimes.

Finished the book. While it's important to learn different perspectives, I think VERY FEW people should follow these principles. If you are a "win at all costs" kind of person that doesn't mind getting your hands dirty and hurting innocent people, then sure this book is for you.
Even if you are that kind of person, there are two major issues I have with this book:
1) It doesn't focus on teamwork whatsoever. It's a SHARP contrast to a book like Extreme Ownership, where Navy Seal operatives always take blame for any team failure. In many cases, the team/company/business has to beat others; teamwork is ABSOLUTELY imperative in those cases.
2) It doesn't factor in survivorship bias. The stories in this book are only success stories (or failures when people break the rules). I'm sure many, many people have lost their careers and even lives by following these principles (blaming others for everything, always hogging the success, being deceptive around others, etc). However, the failures never make it to stories we hear, only successes do.

You wouldn't have to be mean or deceitful, you could be a genuinely nice person to all you meet with no fear, you wouldn't have to worry about them attempting to use or abuse you because you would see it in conversation, you would never have to fight, you could live a generous and peaceful life and you would be practically bullet proof, socially speaking.
