- After falling behind LSU 12-10, Nebraska drove down the field like champions.
Jerry Tagge, Joe Orduna, Dan Schneiss & Jeff Kinney lead the charge, culminating in Jerry Tagge's famous stretch over the goal line. "I knew it was a big deal when Valentino's had it on their place mats."
Ara Parseghian argued Notre Dame should be #1 because they "had accepted the greater challenge" defeating previous top-ranked Texas.
Devaney responded, "I don't see how even the Pope could vote Notre Dame #1" Спорт
I was a Darrell Royal-era Longhorns fan, but loved to watch Nebraska with Jeff Kinney.
Jim Bertleson, Steve Worster, Jeff Kinney.... 3 awesome backs.🏈
My first college football memory was watching this game in Omaha at my grandparent's and Tagge sticking it over the goal line. Unforgettable.
My Mom, Dad, older sister, and her hubby were in attendance at this game. I was just a little 12 year old shit back then! My Mom and Dad have both passed away within the last few years, so this game has even more sentimental value to me than it would otherwise. Thanks for the upload, by the way!
Good quality picture considering how old this Game is.
at the age of 10 we got our first color t.v. it was a 12 inch screen. my brother was in the marching band and we watch the perade the night before the game. everyone in the state on nebraska was watching the orange bowl. go big red.... thanks for posting
I was in graduate school in New Orleans for that entire football season and couldn't listen to Husker games. So I listened to almost all of the LSU games and had a great respect (and some affection) for them. When I went home to Nebraska for Christmas vacation, I told my friends that Nebraska would win this game, but it would be a war.
Jerry Tagge, one of many Huskers to play in the CFL.
A team outside the top 2 winning the championship without playing the 1 or 2 is super rare!
Loved my Tigers but the Huskers were too good back then. Great hearing Jim Simpson and Al DeRogatis
It is refreshing to see a college football game in which the players do not do all the antics they do today to call attention to themselves when they make a good play or do something exceptional. Today so many of them are doing things that say, LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME, SEE HOW GREAT I AM. I am tired of all that. I miss humility.
So players in that era never high fived or displayed emotion when they made a play? Yeah okay boomer. The selective memory of certain generations is both impressive and mind boggling at the same time 😂
Those uprights on the goal posts should have been higher.
Ah yes, Valentino's. Great pizza.
Get it everytime I am up there!! Get a Runza too!
So what's the difference compared to today? Lineman, who wanted to win the line of scrimmage.
Casanova went on to be a state senator here in La lol. We didn't quite have the talent to get past the Nebraska's and Alabama's of the world in the 1970s and 80s unfortunately. Hope the Huskers make it back to the top soon ;)
"Stage" Senator... better rethink that one Chum, maybe edit (redo). Chum.
LSU was a really, really good team that year.
4 out of 5 titles came at the expense of the SEC.
That's history never to be repeated.
That's ok. '06 to '12 the SEC won 7 straight.
You skipped the play at the 50 yard line where the replay showed Casanova fumbled and LSU recovered. If there were replay then Nebraska would have lost the game. In 1982 vs Penn State Osborne would have his first National Championship if there were replay.
M. M. R. Verbatim coins loaded dives.
Tagge was a drunk and a brawler during his time in Green Bay. I'm glad he's straightened out.
On the other hand, I watched quite a few of his games at Green Bay back then, and I never saw more dropped passes than from the GB receivers
Tommy Casanova had a fine NFL career until retiring to become a doctor. In those days, you actually had to have some sort of intelligence to play college football. No 80 IQ imbeciles in those days. Johnny Rodgers was a victim of the Heisman curse. Never had much of a NFL career.
He was a God in Canada.
Barely mention who they’re playing. Yes Notre Dame was chosen number one over Oklahoma one year while Oklahoma had been undefeated for 4 years with a 47 game winning streak. lol
