- 1st half highlights of Nebraska vs. Notre Dame at the Orange Bowl, 1/1/1973. Jim Simpson and Kyle Rote at the mikes. Includes brief announcement about the death of baseball star Roberto Clemente. Rare broadcast footage of this game.
WOW I am impressed how clean this video is, thank you for posting this.
Johnny Rogers played for Montreal and was rookie of the year in the CFL, won a Grey Cup too beating Warren Moon and Edmonton.
The great Jim Simpson with the play by play call.
R.I.P. Roberto Clemente.
oh wow, I never saw this game before, thank you for sharing it with us
Great video. Where is the second half-- that would make it complete!
RIP Roberto Clemente, Kyle Rote, Sr., Pete Demmelle, and Jim Simpson.
I was 11 1/2 years old and at that game with my grandmother and parents (all NU alums) and my 5 year old little sister. I remember that game like it was yesterday, Heisman Trophy winner Johnny "The Jet" Rogers made N.D.'s "defense" look sick in pulling off the trifecta of rushing, receiving and passing for a TD in that game, the only thing he didn't do was return a kick for a TD like he did against 'Bama the year before! What a great winter break school vacation that trip was!
R.I.P. Roberto (From a Mets fan) and thanks for the Upload.
At 3:15, the Cornhusker running back fumbling the ball is Dave Goeller (who lives a block away from me!). His granddaughter attends the school I teach at, which makes this clip seem very odd...
I certainly remember Dave Goeller. Great guy.
My dad was starting. Bob Revelle
Commentators:
Jim Simpson & Kyle Rote
This is some of the best old school footage I have seen do you have the 2nd half or Johnny Rogers highlights clear like this.
@hooffam i just realized the Irish QB is Tom Clements, he was one of the best QB's in the CFL....he had a great hall of fame career in Canada....i think he's an offesnive coach with Green Bay now.
Their were no highlights in this game for ND. If you didn't know better you would almost think Brian Kelly was the coach in this game.
After watching this game, if only Nebraska had played that well over the course of the regular season, they would have challenged USC (eventual national champion) for the best team that season.
Yes Nebraska was awesome in the early 70s! And that 1972 USC team was great too!
back when all those annoying graphics weren't covering the screen.
i see youtube has made the print much smaller.i wonder who's bright idea this was.
Roger B it sucks I like it better, full screen
I sure wanted Nebraska to win 3 straight. Just didn't happen. This was a great game showcasing Johnny Rogers' talents. They used him at tailback. Joe Blahak's last play after 3 years of being a starter was an interception. He suffered a mild concussion and didn't return to the game. RIP Joe.
Three consecutive Orange Bowl triumphs for the Cornhuskers...beating LSU, Bama and Notre Dame.
When I was a little kid I used to call Johnny Rogers 'Jolly Rogers'.
The famous short college goalposts at the Orange Bowl in those days...
@hooffam Keep in mind that Eric Pennick played on the same team, and that guy was a beast, he could run the 100 in about 9.3. Art Best must have been an amazing fast dude, and I believe it...
If I remember correctly, Notre dame was really overmatched in this game.
Half their team was hung over.
great stuff
ND just had no chance in this game.
Where’s Rich Glover???
He's in there. #79.
Even though Nebraska was good in 72 they lost some keys ingredients from the 71 National Championship Team. They really had no replacement for Jeff Kinney and also Dave Humm as a Sophomore was not equal to the great Jerry Tagge
@ 4:10...should have been called a TD.
He never hit the ground. He landed over a player.
@hooffam cool story!
Haha my dad was benched!
Greenberry to the coogs...haha ND
Terrible editing job on this.
Kerry Mills You're welcome !
@@tjnd88 Why not post the whole game? Or, at least, the 2nd half highlights??
something clever Can’t post what I don’t have !
Johnny Rodgers had 15 carries for 81 yards and three touchdowns; three receptions for 71 yards and a TD; and a 50-yard scoring pass. It was also Bob Devaney’s last game as Nebraska coach.
