- The Brit Awards celebrate British music’s biggest accomplishments and hosts a variety of musical performers and artists at its show each year. Major celebrities arrived like Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Harry Styles, Haim, Little Mix wearing some, for the most part, run-of-the-mill styles. But the up-and-coming artists like MNEK, Griff, Lianne La Havas, Maya Jama, Celeste, and Olly Alexander stole the show! Stagnancy and fashion very rarely mix, and it seemed that the young artists were not afraid to look outside the normal set of brands ready and willing to dress celebrities, which led to a rather fun and exciting red carpet!

I think the reason Taylor chose a custom look rather than something off the rack is because her outfit seems purposely designed as a callback to the co-ord crop top/skirt sets that she wore during the 1989 era. She’s been dropping Easter eggs indicating that 1989 might be the next re-record, and I think she wanted to reflect that in her look.
I mean she can still do that but be more exciting the thing is Taylor was never (and never tried or claimed to be) a fashion girl and that’s ok

I don’t think that’s the case. She’s never been that much into fashion and I don’t think she has to be a fashion icon just because she’s a female artist. So many male artists just wear the same tuxedo over and over and nothing happens. She’s at a level when she can just wear whatever she wants and good for her. I love fashion more than most things but not everyone has to be a into it or be a “fashion icon”. I think she looks comfortable and cute and that’s about it.
I think so too it’s very 1989, the crop and the sequins. But I understand that isn’t fashion forward and form that perspective isn’t as interesting.

I adore Taylor but she usually plays it fairly safe with fashion. Also, I think you’ll be seeing more 1989 fashion since her rerelease of 1989 is coming soon. I think she’ll be doing some high wasted looks more given that was her aesthetic during the 1989 era.

The way you said that dua lipa's dress referenced a lot of old silhouettes and styles is so cool coz her album future nostalgia does that with music too.
I really like Harry Styles giant plaid jacket. The flared pants that repeated a motif of the jacket was good too, a welcome relief from the original all-over plaid of the original.
Actually I like it when the designer changes the pieces up from the runway look. Otherwise it is rather merely a change of models.
Dua’s never looked bad but IMO this is beyond the best she’s ever looked. The recontextualisation of the aristocratic era to the modern one/ challenging the notion of supposed “good taste” is especially poignant

Me too! I thought she looked stunning and elegant despite being in such an over the top dress. I also liked the different textures that were created (i.e the soft, fluffiness of the skirt next to the stiff, rigidness of the fans at the top) even though It's from the same fabric.

I actually think the netting on Dua's dress goes even deeper than just punk rock fishnets. The netting having a contrasting color to the material beneath gives a sort of plaid effect which also ties to punk rock culture as well as Vivienne Westwood's design history.

Her grammy Oscar de la Renta look actually made sense with her whole cottage core style that she basically defined throughout 2020 with folklore and evermore. Dua Lipas outfit was actually an ode to Amy Winehouse's look for the 2007 Brit Awards(her dress was Preen), as they are very similar but she just made it her own in such a great way. As a huge Amy fan, this was honestly one of the best examples of how to pay homage to an icon without "copying", or parodying, which can be hard. I honestly love how punk she did make it and how it's unconventional.
