Hey, RUSH is a Canadian band adored internationally...and Neal Peart was known to be one of the best drummers in Rock History. I'm just blown away at US Army personnel performing music at this level.
Neil was from my hometown (St.Catharines, Canada) and we are hoping to put a sculpture of Neil in our Lakeside Park . The tribute by the members of this band is beautiful. Thank you.

I'm a 64 year old Canadian who saw my first Rush concert in a hockey arena at age 14. I was able to hold the tears back through this whole song.... until the picture of Neil at the end. Then my 3 year old grandson says, "Grandad, why are you sad?". I said "you'll understand when you get older, when I introduce you to the music and lyrics of a band called Rush". To our US Army friends south of the border, all I can say is thank you. That was well done. Very well done indeed.
54 year old Canadian here. Man, this was a moving and fitting elegy / homage to Peart, to Rush, to song craft. This new arrangement did what all good (re)arrangements do -- they brought new life, new voice, to the song, with respect and sincerity.
I'm a 60yr old UK Rush fan, first saw them on the Signals tour in a cattle shed outside Edinburgh. I cried when my son told me that Neil Peart had died. I never knew him, but he appeared to know me through his lyrics. To my American cousins, Canadian and US, I can think of no greater tribute to the man. Well done and freewill to you all.
As a Rush fan since 1977, I have to admit. This is the finest remake of a Rush song I have ever heard. Thank you for your service, and thank you for the music.
Yes, this is my favorite cover of a Rush song. I think that it evokes the emotions that the lyrics portray very well. Rush has amazing lyrics, but they sometimes seem muted by the amazing talent coming through of the music. Here the lyrics really shine.

You got it. "Man down," whether it be an empty spot in a formation, rifle barrel in the dirt with helmet on top or a place setting at an empty table at a dining-in, is a sacred tradition.
One of the things I’ve come to appreciate since Neil’s passing is the wide variety of fans that simply love Rush. This was such a unique and heartfelt tribute and further proof that rock and strings is a match made in heaven. Much love for these warrior poets. Proud to be #ArmyStrong #Airborne #RIPNeil #brothers

I have never commented on anything online in my life, that's 50 years. This is one of the best things I have ever seen on the web. Excellent job to the soldiers. Peace to Alex and Geddy. R.I.P Neil.
Just finished watching (again). The beauty of the lyrics and composition really come through in this version. Even my wife, a non-Rush fan, was moved by it.

@@antoniobolgnameyerwe3844 How old are you Antonio? There is a particular reason why I said it was about the most awe inspiring thing I've ever watched. I hope what I went thru to be able to watch this video you never have to experience. What this song means to you isn't what it means to me. For me it goes way deeper because of my experiences and memories. I know the Rush version of this song very well and with the emotion they used in the song it was a different meaning than the Armys meaning. I'm not going to explain exactly why it was so inspiring for me because that's for me only. If this song has no meaning for you then maybe you should start listening to what music is really about. I can't imagine what it's like to be soulless antonio. There's got to be nothing but a dull, colorless, numbing feeling inside you. Barring the piano, I love the fact that there are no percussion instruments in this rendition... undoubtedly a void that all Rush fans feel. Very apropos & transcendent. My hat is in my hands, Professor.
Noticed that as well. Gone but, not forgotten. Have played this a number of times. Still chokes me up. Listened to Foo Fighters Rope this evening. Imagine the Foo Fighters must have been distraught upon hearing the news. Imagine they were in Neil's inner circle.

As an Army Veteran, and a RUSH fan since I first heard the band's music in 1974, I was both proud and touched by this tribute to Neil. He was unquestionably the greatest drummer/percussionist there has ever been; as well as being a fantastic lyricist. RUSH has been my favorite band since I first heard their music when I was stationed overseas; and that has never changed. I was very blessed to see them in concert many, many times. I won concert tickets from Pirate Radio on Thanksgiving morning in 1991 for the January 23, 1992, Roll the Bones tour concert at the LA Forum. During the pre-concert party I won a contest that included backstage passes and front/center seats. I actually got to meet, and talk with, Geddy and Alex while backstage. That night, meeting Geddy and Alex, and sitting front/center for that concert remains one of the highlights of my life. I still cannot believe Neil is gone and that I will never get to see RUSH live in concert again; but I will always listen to the music they created for us. I still can't watch this video without getting choked up because of the pride I feel seeing these soldiers do such a beautiful rendition of Time Stand Still; a song that has deep meaning for me as the lyrics truly describe my life. I spent way too much time working and trying to be successful and not nearly enough time enjoying life.
I'm not quite there yet, but I was able to hold them back until they showed the picture of Neil at the end. There's alot that makes Rush special, but aside from their unparalled talent, they were just 3 genuinely decent, kind, really nice human beings. Heck, Geddy and Alex are still married to their high school sweethearts.
I am a bawling mess of a human being right now. I cannot emphasize how touching this is, and it shows just how many people, in all walks of life and with affiliations and loves for all different genres of music, that Neil touched. Thank you for your service, and thank you for this wonderful tribute.
Being a former Soldier and a life long RUSH fan and devotee of the professor, I'm struck by how odd it is that people in a profession the Neil would rather not exist gave such a poignant and loving tribute. He was very vocal on the idea of 1 international united world, but even he would have been moved by this rendition, I'm sure. And in Neil fashion wrote a lyrics about the juxtaposition of talent and patriotism. It would have made him think, which would have gave him nothing but joy. To my brothers and sister that made this tribute HOOAH! You did exceedingly well! And to Neil, I wish you peace eternal.
davegto67 ....Rush deserves way more credit than they get for their writing abilities in the whole music world ...this is just 1 example of so so so many beautiful songs by the trio
@@wbrin2282 Covers of Rush songs like this will help bring a new audience to the band. The appreciation for their music will grow in the future, I have no doubt about it.
I swear... NO matter how many times I come back to this I still cry like a little girl with a skinned knee. Never heard a Rush cover that outdid the original except this one.
I had to click on this when I saw the title thinking, "that can't be the RUSH song why would the ARMY band be doing a RUSH song" that song always had an affect on me emotionally but never quite like this before, that was a real punch in the heart, 💔
When you think about it, it makes total sense. The audition process to be in the army band is VERY INTENSIVE. I don't know what all it entails, but when I arrived at the 2nd infantry division replacement company at Camp Mobile in Korea 1997, one of the guys staying in our 8 man room was going to be in the 2nd ID band as a percussionist... One day I noticed he was listening to RUSH and immediately we got into a long RUSH discussion, as we were both HUGE fans. That was how we got to talking to each other, but because of the intense RUSH discussion, he didn't quite get around to telling me about band auditions, other than it was no joke and they don't just take anyone! With all that being said to describe the calibre of army musicians, you just KNOW peach and every one of them KNOW who RUSH is and what their music is all about. So with that example and the guy I met in Korea as an example, thyre all influenced by RUSH and I believe they feel they owe it to them for helping them get to where they are in the army band... that's what I think anyway
Aschule all I can say is absolutely a great tune. When I was younger it really grabbed at my heart. Don’t get to listen to music like I used to. Bless you neil

I cried too. What a loss of someone we all loved dearly. I cried when I played “ The Garden” after learning. I was driving by my self. I was alone then where I could let it all out. Such a sad hard moment for me.
My experience mirrors yours. I can't sing this stuff just now. It hurts like putting my best doggo down. I just can't get through it without getting too emotional.
I'm sitting here contemplating things past and my life partner who passed coming up 4 years ago. She was a beautiful soul. I've been a Rush fan forever, knowing of them in their original form way back in the "70's before Neil Peart. Being aware of his devastating personal loss, today it finally dawned on me. This song is about dying and the experience as the soul becomes aware of the transition. Its beyond beautiful. That a living soul can find the words to convey. Such a gift to us all. Thank you Rush for putting it all together in a way we all want to hear, over and over and over again

Every. Single. Time. I. Watch. This. 😭. Recently lost my Dad so it’s especially poignant. RIP Dad. RIP Neil “The Professor” Peart. Thank you US Army Band!
Being almost 19 years old, Rush has been an influence and a support to me throughout my entire life, thanks mainly to my dad. I still vividly remember the days back when I lived in Southern California, as a 4/5 year old kid, going to t-ball practice, listening to Vapor Trails, Test For Echo, and Counterparts through the CD player in the 2002 Toyota RAV4 that my dad was driving, that I now mainly drive, today. My dad and I have shared some of our best memories together at the 3 Rush concerts I was lucky enough to attend in my (compared to others) short exposure to Rush. This is an absolutely beautiful tribute to Neil’s lyrics. He wasn’t just an amazing drummer! He was so much more than that, to me, and millions of others. Thank you, Neil Peart. For everything. Your genuine love for the intricacies of life and musicality will live on forever. ❤️

This is one of the most meaningful songs that Neil wrote. It hits hard at the age of 50. Looking forward and looking backward. And looking at the present.

I just turned 49 and have heard this song for over 30 years. I had never felt words this strong. I'm a fire fighter and paramedic who has had PTSD for quite some time. I've made so many mistakes that have hurt those that I truly love, but am working hard to be better. I have stopped to smell the flowers, finally forgiven myself for my poor choices and am taking in life. This makes me think of how my kids are growing up, how much I love my wife, and live life as if it were my last. From a Navy man, who gives his Army brother a lot of grief for his branch of service choice...Army wins this one without question!
Stay strong, my friend!! At just now 50 y/o I'm 27 years on the voluntary in PA FD with 9 years as a Chief Officer and a divorce to show for it. Still wouldn't trade it all for the world. Neil was from my hometown (St.Catharines, Canada) and we are hoping to put a sculpture of Neil in our Lakeside Park . The tribute by the members of this band is beautiful. Thank you.
I'm in Hamilton. I heard they were considering renaming Lakeside Park after him. Maybe I heard wrong.
@@rmargolese Naming new bandshell after him, and a citizens group is campaigning for a bronze statue. Should be no problem to raise a pile of $$ for that. Talk of band shell dedication this summer.
@@Spotmyboy He would probably hate the statue idea but the rest sounds like a fitting tribute.
PLEASE make the statue include his full drumkit
I would travel to see that, it would become a tourist attraction
I'm a 64 year old Canadian who saw my first Rush concert in a hockey arena at age 14. I was able to hold the tears back through this whole song.... until the picture of Neil at the end. Then my 3 year old grandson says, "Grandad, why are you sad?". I said "you'll understand when you get older, when I introduce you to the music and lyrics of a band called Rush". To our US Army friends south of the border, all I can say is thank you. That was well done. Very well done indeed.
Hello fellow Canadian and fellow Rush fan from St Catharines, Ont. ❤🇨🇦🇺🇲
I too am a 64 year old Canadian, and also saw my first Rush concert in a hockey arena; rock on brother.
54 year old Canadian here. Man, this was a moving and fitting elegy / homage to Peart, to Rush, to song craft. This new arrangement did what all good (re)arrangements do -- they brought new life, new voice, to the song, with respect and sincerity.
Hi I'm a 64 year old USA American love Rush one of the best American rock bands no the best!

"Thank you" seems so inadequate. I'm sure all of Rush appreciates this. Close to tears with this beautiful rendition.

It's now three years since Neil has passed and I still cry listening to this. Amazing job . Thank you

Cheers friend, I feel what you feel.
I love this composition.
Amazing lyrics that touch the soul.
God, I miss RUSH!
Yes - Utterly beautiful and heartbreaking
Yep... just did again.
I was at that same show, next to the smelly chicken factory. Last date of the whole Signals tour.
@@michaelatkinson8291 I've still got the program, but the T-shirt bit the dust two decades ago :)

How old are you Antonio?
Is there enough booze in the world to fill the void where your soul is supposed to be?
I'm looking forward to your next syllable with great anticipation antonio

I got as far as "Freeze this moment a little bit longer" and I broke down. I miss my dear, dear friends (husband and wife) who passed on this last year. Thank you for this beautiful, beautiful rendition of a song by the Professor.
Barring the piano, I love the fact that there are no percussion instruments in this rendition... undoubtedly a void that all Rush fans feel. Very apropos & transcendent. My hat is in my hands, Professor.
My thoughts exactly. Something akin to a "missing man formation" of the air force.
Oh dude you got me hard with that. Right in the middle of my heart. God damnit I miss him.
Noticed that as well. Gone but, not forgotten. Have played this a number of times. Still chokes me up. Listened to Foo Fighters Rope this evening. Imagine the Foo Fighters must have been distraught upon hearing the news. Imagine they were in Neil's inner circle.
Outstanding!

Neil's passing has indeed created such an immense void. I've never felt this much for a loss of a musician I've admired... Neil lives on forever
I spent way too much time working and trying to be successful and not nearly enough time enjoying life.
four years. This is the first time I've been able to watch it without crying.
As a Rush Fan and Patriot. I find this performance Amazing. Wow
I am a bawling mess of a human being right now. I cannot emphasize how touching this is, and it shows just how many people, in all walks of life and with affiliations and loves for all different genres of music, that Neil touched. Thank you for your service, and thank you for this wonderful tribute.
YEP ME TOO! :(...

We’re “imperfect and incomplete..” but Neil helped so many of us try to piece together the puzzle of this “fortune hunt that’s far too fleet”
3 years later - it doesnt get any easier...

You should check out the Subdivisions cover by Allegean. It's awesome.
Gay. Btw, it’s “effect”.
Aschule all I can say is absolutely a great tune. When I was younger it really grabbed at my heart. Don’t get to listen to music like I used to. Bless you neil
