Perhaps the most beautiful song Rush has ever done and the most meaningful lyrics Neil Peart ever wrote. It makes my cry every time I hear it and this wonderful cover is no exception to that rule.
"Hold Your Fire" is a bring you back from the darkest depths type of album. Since buying the CD back in high school around 1991, I always find new meaning in the songs as I grow older. Classic album.
Agree! I never understood haters for particular era of Rush - I always loved this particular song the lyrics are really beautiful and Neil uses some awesome twists on idioms and homophones My favorite: Summers going fast Nights growing colder Children growing up Old friends growing older... Damn got something in my eye. Rush is great in all eras imo and I liked Hold Your Fire. Guess in minority.
All these wounds cant get Un-"wound".....Idiom: Time and Tide wait for no man, Neil REVERSES it has captain beached waiting FOR Tide--Neil will always be a genius, this song is beautiful IMO and I like addition of Aimees falsetto (imagine the guys mentioned originally Cyndi Lauper or Chrissie Hynde for the part--both great singers wonder what that would have sounded like!). Power Windows and this were my intro to Rush so I like these albums despite haters and of course my entry into rest of their catalog, former and later. I never saw them as "pop" sellouts which I heard at time from some others re: HYF.
So few people know and actually listen and understand what this song is trying to say. For my 50th birthday the only thing I asked of my family is to listen to this song and read the lyrics.
One of my kids once asked me if I ever felt jealous of any other women. Immediately “Aimee Mann” popped into my mind, because she got to sing with Rush. 😂 Thanks, Mike, for letting me sing this with you! Still a highlight!
A good friend of mine was a big RUSH fan and he really loved this song. He passed away a couple months ago, he was only 52. Every time I hear this now it reminds of him, the lyrics really hit home. One thing may father always to me when I was growing up “Time waits for no man”.
One of the best songs of our time, cuts right to the heart of the human condition. It only gets more relevant with age. Lovely cover, thanks for sharing!
Almost never that a acoustic cover stands up against the original. This one does it!! So amazing. So intens. So much energy. So much beauty. So much passion. Tears in my eyes... Amazing!🙏❤️
Rush are rock and roll legends. I’m almost 50 years old and have been listening to them since I was 12. Your cover is one of the if not the best I’ve ever heard. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
I’m from Brazil and I’m 45 years old. I listen Rush since I was 4 or 5, by my oldest brother’s influence. Mike made the best Rush cover ever, just as the other covers he does. This guy is simply amazing! 🤩👏
How good is this..so so beautiful, just turned 59 couple of days ago..been listening to Rush since 16. Thankyou so much,,just haunting Love from Australia
My daughter was 3 years old in her car seat while I was driving blasting rush. After this song was over she said “ play that sing again daddy “ Now at 18 she loves this version more and so do I. love Rush. So thank you again for this genius cover of a great song
This is wonderful both of you. I am a big Rush fan and was gutted when Neil died. Then my dad died very suddenly on February 4th. He was 67 like Neil. You brought a smile and some happy tears to me. Thank you both.
I've a Rush Fans since the 80's and I have to say this cover is beyond awesome! Rush is a hard band to cover and make it sound good! But, some how you did it here! Well Done!
This is beautiful- what incredible voices - Mike hitting those Geddy notes perfectly! And Brenda hitting the Aimee Mann part with that same dreamy effect - not to mention great guitar playing- so awesome!
Been a Rush fan since the 8th grade back in the early 80s. I remember when this song was first released later in the decade. Singing along to each word, wondering how life might be decades later. And here we are. I will be 50 in June. My best friend's daughter will be 20. She was born 6 weeks after he died from cancer barely past his 31st birthday in 2001. We had been friends for 20 yrs beforehand having met in the 5th grade (1981, he sat behind me to cheat on spelling test. Got caught. Lol) he was my best man at my wedding when I was 28, and i was his the following year in 1999. To listen to this song all the way through is sometimes excruciating to the point I will skip it when random play brings it up on my playlist rather than endure the loss all over again, unless I'm driving to somewhere without much traffic. I can pull over and stop on the side of the road until I'm able to see through the tears enough to drive on, and do so again and again if need be. Time will always stand still with those memories.
I listen to a lot of acoustic covers, but didn't expect to find a RUSH acoustic cover. So when this came up on my YT feed, I was immediately curious. And oh boy, what an AMAZING cover. Besides the awesome vocal performances, I felt the beauty is also in its simplicity - no attempted flourishes or trying to compensate for lack of the full sound. Just perfect. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@Vikas Tandon - If you enjoy acoustic covers, you REALLY need to check out this Rush cover (Subdivisions) by Jacob Moon. It is impressive. (By the way...not trying to take away from Mike Masse's cover of Time Stands Still which is well done.) ruclips.net/video/W4vd9OVLO7Q/видео.html
My sentiments, exactly. I watched this expecting it to be humorously mediocre. Boy, was I wrong. Mike, you have given me the gentle shove I needed to go buy me a Taylor or Martin acoustic. I look forward to seeing you in Cincinnati this September.
VERY hard to make a RUSH fan happy with a cover, but you not only did it, you exceeded my greatest expectations. Spot on, all of it. And a great tribute to the band, and The Professor.
The biggest compliment ever is that Mike is purely loved (besides the always negative people). Especially while doing covers you have these die hard fan bases but he nails every cover so good, that they even love it. Such an underrated aspect. Cant wait to see you in Amsterdam in September
Big Rush fan. I never really got the full meaning of this song until now. WOW, great rendition. Neil was an amazing lyrisist that most people who were not into Rush just cant appreciate. Really well done.
OUTSTANDING !!!!! I well up every time I listen to this song, as if Neil wrote it for/about me, the absolute GREATEST Rock drummer of all time - R.I.P.. Exceptional performance Mike, Brenda is Amy Mann when I close my eyes...
Through this maddness we are enduring now all over the world, this will allways sound as a message of peace, wisdom and serenity ! May God give us his help to get out from this hell ...
Beautiful cover -- really tough song to play and sing -- handled effortlessly! Hope the Stooges get a chance to see it. Neil Peart, the consummate time keeper so keenly aware of the importance of every moment of life: I heard him say that he asked him self every day, "what is the most excellent thing you can do today?!". Hearing this song reinterpreted so elegantly is a truly touching tribute to the life's work of this great man and band. Thank you.
I'd been a fan for over thirty years before I finally got to see them live, and when they opened with this (at full throated roar) I wept. Then Neil left early to beat the traffic and I wept again, only more. Thank you for honoring them and him with this. RIP Mighty Trommler
That was incredible, thanks to both of you for bringing tears to my eyes and putting a HUGE smile on my face at the same time. RUSH have been in my life since I was nine years old and now 40yrs later they are still there and always will be, so sad that Neil passed away but in my mind he's still here thanks to all the incredible music he created.
Absolutely Fantastic rendition of a Classic song by a Legendary band. The unique sound produced by Geddy Lee's voice is so hard to not only duplicate but do any kind justice has made it impossible for covers to gain any interest. But Mike, your voice compliments Mr. Lee's eloquently and elevates it to the quality of a Dennis DeYoung or Steve Perry or Andrea Bocelli. And Brenda's voice is spot on and even elevates the quality of the original. Your voices compliment one another perfectly, harmonically. Great version of this great song.
It has been three years since I first watched this, and I remember the feels back then. Rewatching it now, I can't think of a more appropriate song you could have picked for this tribute. Sending love.
You both did an amazing job on this song. This song still guts me today. Can’t listen to it without thinking how Neil opened up with his pen. Freeze this moment a little longer. 😢
Thank you both You both are blessed with the wonderful gift of singing, playing and performing, but most of all, giving. Thank you for blessing us with your gift of giving. I love both of your voices. I could go on and on about how WONDERFUL this song is. 🎵. And how beautifully you both performed it. Her voice sounds just like and even better than OLIVIA NEWTON - JOHN. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH. PEACE AND LOVE ❤️, GLEN
I come back to this at least once a month. Like 6 times already this month and we just started September! Man, God gifted you. I hope you know the lord Jesus Christ.
Brenda will be joining me at my show in Portland, OR, on April 18, 2020. For concert dates and ticket info: *mikemasse.com/concerts* Thank you for the Likes, Comments, and Shares. ❤️
Only one canadian show montreal? No west coast shows Vancouver bc , ?
Was going to comment on how nice a few western Canadian would be. Either way good luck and will be checking out more of your tasty work
She's the singer who covered Linger right?
@@ricimercury9490 yes
Would love to hear a cover of The Grapes of Wrath song "All the things I wasn't"
I'm 58 and this song holds more relevance with every passing year. Very well rendered.
Anyone else still hear the drum track in their head?
LOL, All the way through...
Of course! ☺️
Absolutely! I'm playing air drums
On every single song they had
Always.
The boys would be proud. RIP Neil.
Perhaps the most beautiful song Rush has ever done and the most meaningful lyrics Neil Peart ever wrote. It makes my cry every time I hear it and this wonderful cover is no exception to that rule.
Me too every time
"Hold Your Fire" is a bring you back from the darkest depths type of album.

Witch-hunt... fantastic song.

And you were perfect. Thanks.
You were wonderful in this and The Cranberries' Dreams!
You crushed it! Thank you.
I really enjoyed your performance! Beautiful vocals and great playing! I grew up listening to Rush and continue enjoying their music.
You and Mike crushed this song!
A good friend of mine was a big RUSH fan and he really loved this song. He passed away a couple months ago, he was only 52. Every time I hear this now it reminds of him, the lyrics really hit home. One thing may father always to me when I was growing up “Time waits for no man”.
I sure hope Geddy and Alex have seen this video...Brenda and Mike capture it perfectly. A near perfect tribute.
I can see Geddy get that smile on his face.
Amazing!🙏❤️
Let’s hear it for Brenda..... 👏👏
She has a lovely voice. And......she's lovely.
Her Linger cover is better than original. Love her! ❤️
@@waspoza I just listened to it (the Linger cover). Magical. thanks for mentioning it.
Well done! Aimee Mann has an unusual voice and she captures it well.
They have a good voice together. But wow she is great.
Summers going fast
Nights growing colder
Children growing up
Old Friends growing older
Anthem for the Autumn of life.
Beautiful Mike and Brenda.
This song is starting to hit a little too close to home as I get older and watch my kids grow up..
You cannot duplicate the sound of a GREAT Ovation!
It really is ridiculous how fast it goes once you are raising kids.
Hitting closer to the heart, is it?
Don’t blink!
Neil was a great writer/lyricist.....his writings touched my heart strings many of times....still does all these years later.
this right here is beyond great.
Rush are rock and roll legends. I’m almost 50 years old and have been listening to them since I was 12. Your cover is one of the if not the best I’ve ever heard. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Wonderful. Wonderful.
Yep. Up here in the Great White North, he's known as Mike Mass, eh?
I’m from Brazil and I’m 45 years old. I listen Rush since I was 4 or 5, by my oldest brother’s influence. Mike made the best Rush cover ever, just as the other covers he does. This guy is simply amazing! 🤩👏
Sim. Na minha opinião é uma das melhores bandas!!! Vida longa ao Rush 👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
same
He nails those high notes like a Boss! Well done.
Ken Allen Amen!
Like a .....Geddy ?
His vocal is even higher pitched than Geddy's.
I have to say that's one of the best rush covers I've heard ever.
Totally agree!
Completely heart-felt.
No doubt; they did a great job!!!
Incredible
Great cover. This song is one of the few that brings a tear to my eye. RIP Neil.
Sonorous it brought a tear to my eye as well. Before Neil’s passing it gave me goosebumps.
It's bittersweet for me.
Check out the army band cover ...
Can I just claim allergies?
wtf... i think i'm cryin'
This is a legit cover of the greatest band ever. Well done!
Those 3 dislikers got no soul. This was great. Absolutely great.
like Big Money.
Those were Bieber fans.😂
Those 3 don’t got big money either
How good is this..so so beautiful, just turned 59 couple of days ago..been listening to Rush since 16.
Thankyou so much,,just haunting
Love from Australia
Hey John, Happy Birthday 2024. Hope you’re doing well. Lifelong Rush fan here.
My daughter was 3 years old in her car seat while I was driving blasting rush. After this song was over she said “ play that sing again daddy “
Now at 18 she loves this version more and so do I.
love Rush.
So thank you again for this genius cover of a great song
sweet story-thanks!
Nailed it!! Great harmony!! Not enough players out there that appreciate the sound of an Ovation!
This is wonderful both of you. I am a big Rush fan and was gutted when Neil died. Then my dad died very suddenly on February 4th. He was 67 like Neil. You brought a smile and some happy tears to me. Thank you both.
Very sorry for your loss.
May your dad Rest In Peace 🙏
Meus sentimentos.
His vocal range is PERFECT for this tribute! Brenda is the perfect accompaniment...
I never really listened to the words, in todays current world they ring true. RIP Mr Drums.
This is one of those songs that will live on forever and IMO it’s easily a top 5 song Rush ever made
I'll never get tired of this. What a player! What a voice!!! What a F...fantastic!
Can there be a better cover than this?! Doesn't seem possible. The talent is so off the charts I can listen to this over and over.
I've a Rush Fans since the 80's and I have to say this cover is beyond awesome! Rush is a hard band to cover and make it sound good! But, some how you did it here! Well Done!
I've been a Rush fan since I first dropped the needle on "Bastille Day", on the 14th of July, 1976, and I second your comment.
This is beautiful- what incredible voices - Mike hitting those Geddy notes perfectly! And Brenda hitting the Aimee Mann part with that same dreamy effect - not to mention great guitar playing- so awesome!

And.now the rush fan base is crushing on Brenda. :) she’s fantastic and this duo sounds amazing.
I've loved Rush and Aimee Mann forever... but I can't stop watching your version. Mike and Brenda, you nail it.
What a beautiful song!!! If only the hands of time could pause!
This song touches more than any other Rush song. You guys did it justice. Beautiful rendition.
Unbelievable job! There’s only one thing missing...... The Professor 😢
Dunsterman In a way, its fitting to do this with no drums.

A master playing a masterpiece that will go through time
Masse, you are my favorite musician...full stop.👁️❤️U!
Outstanding!!! I’m choking back tears.
Been a Rush fan since 1974. This is gorgeous.
This is definitely one of the best, if not the best vocal cover of Rush that I’ve heard! Bravo !!!❤️
Brenda oh Brenda, that's so beautiful. Thanks, Mike! My mind just flew to the old video clip by Rush.
simply wonderful... probably Peart smiled somewhere hearing this. Thank you.

"Neil left early to beat the traffic...." 😥
I mean, right? Still reeling, honestly.
Hearing it like this makes you realize just how good Geddy became at writing vocal melodies.
