    What would you say might be the average number of 5.56, 55 grain, FMJ rounds it takes to penetrate a level IV ceramic plate? I'm under the impression it might be more statistically likely that the person wearing the armor would be shot somewhere other than the armor before the armor was penetrated. But of course, I don't have the budget to test this...

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  3 года назад +3

      That's a very good question, and a possible test :D I'd say you're right as someone would likely hit you in an extremity during the course of fire. But it would be interesting. I have spare Level IV plates from LAPG, would you find that to be an acceptable test medium?

    • @cjr4286
      @cjr4286 3 года назад +2

      @@BuffRANGE It sure would! I've always been fascinated by "how many licks does it take to get to the center of a lollipop?" for common ammunition and body armor. The answer to that question would definitely affect the way people train! Thanks :)

    Why does the 308, with less velocity and energy, pass through? You'd think the 300wm would power through the plate, regardless of what the bullet's made of.

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  3 года назад +2

      With ceramic armor bullet construction matters. the 300WM has steel core, which its not as hard as the tungsten core used in the .308

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  3 года назад +1

      Possibly the Atlas Arms - Dagny Dagger, but I don't believe they've developed a .30 cal round yet. Otherwise, to my knowledge, no. With ceramic you need speed, and bullet construction. Since tungsten is what's needed a lot of the time, most rounds that employ that are off limits for us.

    In your opinion which performs better monolithic or tile array strike faces?

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  3 года назад +2

      To me it seems like tile array plates stand up better to multi hits. I wonder however if long term, a monolithic strike face would fair better because there's not glue to break down that keeps all the tiles in place? - I hope to test that with my long term body armor test, as RMA donated some 1155s.

    Lehigh defense sounds cool. But have you seen dsgtec xmp rounds? They are tungsten carbide 300gr 30 cal projectiles able to fire from a 16 in barrel. It's made for 7.62x51. They also have a subsonic load for that bullet. Even though there is no way to get your hands on it (most likely), you should still check it out. DSGTEC

    We have seen videos where this armor actually stops the 308 AP rounds. You can find them here. So reality is it stops all your ammo. Plus those plates have been reenforced. So while your video was accurate almost a year ago, it’s not today. 👍

    What about a good 22/250 out of a 22” bbl

    • @timewave02012
      @timewave02012 3 года назад +1

      I would expect 22-250 to be good at punching through relatively thin hardened steel, but ceramic that stops M2AP is going to be tough. Penetration is some compromise of mass, velocity, and hardness. 22 caliber greatly limits mass. Maybe if he used M995 tips, or possibly even M855A1, the hardness would compensate.

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  3 года назад

      The major downside to 22-250 is the bullet twist rate. We really need a 1:7/1:9 to stabilize bullets. M995 would be interesting because it's 52 gr, but without lots of bullets to develop a load It would be hard to test.
