Niji Tsubasa i can’t name any but tumblr (and now ig too) is swarming with this style and has been for many, many years. if you search a bit i bet you’d find some pretty popular people who are like this and maybe make videos as well. i’m assuming (since the style was all over tumblr and not many of these tumblr users took the style to youtube) that kenna thought she could brand it as original if she introduced the style as her own on youtube instead, and it worked. but it’s not original at all and it’s a flat out rip off of the tumblr-esque style that’s been on the scene for a long time.
the fact that she has severed Buddha head in her place is literally proof that she can't be all that serious about her Buddhism. The trend of having Buddha head as decor comes from colonial English men in India cutting Buddha heads off temples and monuments to bringing them home as trophies. Especially for Indian Buddhists having a severed Buddha Head is considered highly offensive because of that very reason. So many beautiful temples, statues and monuments were scarred because of this. This offensive trend eventually over time made it into our garden, homes and furniture stores because its ~AeStHeTiC~ even though it's really messed up. But that sounds just like Kenna, now doesn't it. I feel like if you seriously want to be part of a religion, you should learn it's no-no's maybe?
I will admit I used to have one in my house. Out of sheer ignorance, it stayed on my bookshelf for a couple years and I really liked how it looked, didn't look much into it. I forgot how I acquired it, maybe it was a gift. Anyway, I learned in December that it's highly disrespectful to Buddhism and immediately donated it. I'm not trying to put myself on a pedestal but why disrespect a group of people when you could just... NOT. as an art teacher, i dont think getting ideas off the internet makes you not original if you twist them on your own, all art is borrowed, and it's very hard to make unique things. It's like how no art style is truly original everything is inspired but nothing is particularly wrong with feeling unique or having deep rooted connection with it. but I do think that claiming or attacking other people for being into the same thing, and putting their own twist on it , is really bad. but lying about that sort of stuff is scummy.

It’s a bit more complicated... but he’s right. You know those people who have like hundreds of makeup and nail polishes and collections and stuff? It’s more like getting rid of like 90% of the stuff because you don’t use it, and you don’t need it. Keep the things that truly make you happy. I think one of my favorite quotes was “your house is a living space, not a storage space” and stuff like that. And if you want to get deep with it, it’s also letting go of toxic relationships, thoughts, etc etc. there’s a lot XD books on it if you’re ever interested.

Little does kenna know, Plagiarism is ILLEGAL If you've claimed a piece of art is yours but turns not to be , That's plagiarism. The original artist CAN take actions to court. Depending on the severity of the plagiarism act , You can be fined up to 50,000 dollars (£38,000) and up to 1 year in jail. Plagiarism is a criminal OFFENSE.
In art, if you change a piece of art 75% and add your own stylistic twist to it, it is no longer plagiarized. I’m an art major and I just thought this was an interesting detail to add to the conversation. Art influences art. I’m not defending Kenna but this is something that a lot of people don’t know so I thought I’d share :)

@@cinnamongirl11 Yeah my family is Buddhist and I can vouch for the OP. Fetishizing something isn’t necessarily sexual. It can be as simple as taking something of religious importance and treating it like an accessory. I think fetish has only gotten the sexual connotations in recent times due to BDSM but may scholars have written about the original meaning of a fetish. you never buy Buddha’s from commercial stores. They have to be gifted to you by family members or by religious figures. I’m not exactly sure how obtaining them in the first place works but you need the Buddha to be blessed by a monk in order for it to be most effective. And if you brought a Buddha head from tj Max they’d probably give you a funny look. This isn’t to shame people who bought Buddha heads from stores. I can understand how it would be hard when you want to practice Buddhism but no one in your family practices. My high school friend had a commercially bought Buddha in her room but my family didn’t take offense because she was trying her hardest to practice and learn the teachings. Plus she didn’t treat the Buddha as a trendy accessory.

I feel like she doesn't fully understand what plagiarism is...I may be wrong or I may be putting words in her mouth though. I think she thinks if she re-draws the art herself (even if it's almost an exact replica) and is using it as part of a bigger piece (such as the Foxtail picture), then it's not plagiarism. But...it is...I mean I've done it, but I've taken the drawing and hung it up on my wall or pushed it into an art folder somewhere. It's one thing to make the drawing for yourself, but if she's trying to make money off it...she really needs to (depending on the creator or situation) 1. Contact the creator to ask if it's okay for her to use it or 2. Simply say in the description of her RUclips, Instagram, etc. that she drew inspiration from (wherever) and put a link to it. I don't think people would be offended if her idea wasn't 100% original...To put it simply, I feel like she just needs to be taught when something is or isn't plagiarism and not to turn all combative, salty mode when people point this out to her (and hopefully whoever points this out to her is doing it in a nice, constructive way because we really don't need more hate in the world) and learn that "copying" her aesthetic isn't plagiarism.

Niji Tsubasa i can’t name any but tumblr (and now ig too) is swarming with this style and has been for many, many years. if you search a bit i bet you’d find some pretty popular people who are like this and maybe make videos as well. i’m assuming (since the style was all over tumblr and not many of these tumblr users took the style to youtube) that kenna thought she could brand it as original if she introduced the style as her own on youtube instead, and it worked. but it’s not original at all and it’s a flat out rip off of the tumblr-esque style that’s been on the scene for a long time.
the fact that she has severed Buddha head in her place is literally proof that she can't be all that serious about her Buddhism. The trend of having Buddha head as decor comes from colonial English men in India cutting Buddha heads off temples and monuments to bringing them home as trophies. Especially for Indian Buddhists having a severed Buddha Head is considered highly offensive because of that very reason. So many beautiful temples, statues and monuments were scarred because of this. This offensive trend eventually over time made it into our garden, homes and furniture stores because its ~AeStHeTiC~ even though it's really messed up. But that sounds just like Kenna, now doesn't it. I feel like if you seriously want to be part of a religion, you should learn it's no-no's maybe?
I will admit I used to have one in my house. Out of sheer ignorance, it stayed on my bookshelf for a couple years and I really liked how it looked, didn't look much into it. as an art teacher, i dont think getting ideas off the internet makes you not original if you twist them on your own, all art is borrowed, and it's very hard to make unique things. It's like how no art style is truly original everything is inspired but nothing is particularly wrong with feeling unique or having deep rooted connection with it.

Yeah my family is Buddhist and I can vouch for the OP. Fetishizing something isn’t necessarily sexual. It can be as simple as taking something of religious importance and treating it like an accessory. I think fetish has only gotten the sexual connotations in recent times due to BDSM but may scholars have written about the original meaning of a fetish.
you never buy Buddha’s from commercial stores. They have to be gifted to you by family members or by religious figures. I’m not exactly sure how obtaining them in the first place works but you need the Buddha to be blessed by a monk in order for it to be most effective. And if you brought a Buddha head from tj Max they’d probably give you a funny look.
This isn’t to shame people who bought Buddha heads from stores. I can understand how it would be hard when you want to practice Buddhism but no one in your family practices. My high school friend had a commercially bought Buddha in her room but my family didn’t take offense because she was trying her hardest to practice and learn the teachings. Plus she didn’t treat the Buddha as a trendy accessory.

I feel like she doesn't fully understand what plagiarism is...I may be wrong or I may be putting words in her mouth though. I think she thinks if she re-draws the art herself (even if it's almost an exact replica) and is using it as part of a bigger piece (such as the Foxtail picture), then it's not plagiarism. But...it is...I mean I've done it, but I've taken the drawing and hung it up on my wall or pushed it into an art folder somewhere. It's one thing to make the drawing for yourself, but if she's trying to make money off it...she really needs to (depending on the creator or situation) 1. Contact the creator to ask if it's okay for her to use it or 2. Simply say in the description of her RUclips, Instagram, etc. that she drew inspiration from (wherever) and put a link to it. I don't think people would be offended if her idea wasn't 100% original...To put it simply, I feel like she just needs to be taught when something is or isn't plagiarism and not to turn all combative, salty mode when people point this out to her (and hopefully whoever points this out to her is doing it in a nice, constructive way because we really don't need more hate in the world) and learn that "copying" her aesthetic isn't plagiarism.
