I ended up writing an essay using personification based off of YoYoMa (I did not use yours, don’t worry!) And I did an outstanding job. I truly feel if you spoke with those words in a paper you’d ace the essay because your works are so beautiful
The 6th suite is so unabashedly jubilant that it sounds like an ascent up to heaven, literally. I’ve never played it all the way through and decided I don’t ever want to properly study the gigue (final movement) because I’d rather leave it unfinished. Because I will never be able to play it perfectly. I always said I’d like for it to be played at my funeral, so it was a shocking choice for me to see after 2020... maybe I died, or maybe it really is a song of ascension and we can live in a better world here and now. Genuine thoughts and prayers to all those who have suffered losses and tragedy of any sort in 2020, and I hope for everyone a year that’s better than the last one. To whomever is reading this, I hope you find everything you need, and that you always have enough.
Blessed is a man who gives his blood, sweat & tears selflessly to a hopeful & inspirational day to the world. Thank you for giving so much, Maestro Ma. ✌🏼
Bravo! Those runs!! Every note perfection. Mr. Ma, it is reductive to call you a virtuoso. Your playing makes the instrument disappear and I hear Bach speaking to me through you. It is beautiful to see and to hear. You are a treasure in all times, but especially now.
I LOVE how you smile while playing....the MUSIC comes radiating from your soul...your musical talent and gift amazes me....if only I'd been given piano lessons as a child, when I was 4 yrs old and pleaded non stop for decades for piano lessons after sitting on piano bench and played the keys, making up what I thought was beautiful music. Everyone urged my parents, said I was talented...But I gave up, work and LIFE happened until 3 yrs ago, my best friend died of allergic reaction to latex and is when I began taking piano lessons at age 65. My husband had a 6 ft Boston/Steinway grand piano delivered on Valentines Day....but it wasn't easy finding a piano teacher willing to teach older person, 1st time student, I called at least 20 teachers, but finally found a great piano teacher AND I practice, play kids songs like a 5 yr old. But learning to read music and play piano at my age and all my serious health issues (EDS disease, plus severe anemia/anoxia)....But I keep trying. Within 3 months of taking lessons, I played Bachs Prelude in C major for my dying cat Princess nearly perfectly!....I posted the video here on YT. I'm NOT trying to show off...my wish is to encourage others to PLEASE GIFT your CHILD MUSIC lessons...at least one year and if they're not interested, don't force them. TURN OFF the TV, do NOT give them ipads, iphones and electronic JUNK that changes their brain waves (proven fact, NOT just theory) IF you can afford electronic multi media junk for YOURSELF or your child, then YOU can afford music lessons. There's TONS of free pianos in EVERY city. just look AND there are a host of music teachers willing to give lessons at low or no cost to those who are serious....in fact I am giving piano lessons to needy children at no cost. My piano teacher thinks its awesome as I teach what I'm learning! It breaks my heart and I'm very upset, angry that my folks were so uncaring about my talents/gift for music and its too late for me to be an accomplished musician BUT, i can enjoy plunking the keys, reading basic level all for ME and no one else. Its helped me cope with my chronic pain and deep depression...If there's a will, there's away!
This suite is from my point of view the greatest gift we were given as cellists, it is a work of music that shows us we can resurrect in a certain way. Bach's works are often related to almost religious connotations. I do not believe in a God as portrayed by religions, but that does not take any credit off this piece or from all the great music works on the history of mankind. We are here, we are not sure of what is out there and why do we exist or if we are alone in this universe, or if we are going to disappear in some moment, but this piece is a call of life, a statement that we are here and we will carry on and for some reason we play music and it is the most noble thing we could have ever done as a society, it touches and awakens for some reason the deepest emotions we have, i cried so hardly of emotion to this as i made the left hand positions in the air, we are here alive playing these pieces and we will die one day, but nevermind, we were very happy here playing music and living along people and beings that loved us and that is more than enough
This Covid Long hauler cellist says thank you for making my day with Bach. You give me hope that I will get back to a point where I can play our glorious Bach Suites for more than 5 minutes a day. Bless you.🎵🙏
Thanks Master yoyo Ma. Immense pleasure to hear you and see you. Plus, the camera just in face, I can see your left Hand and the bowing. It's great for training. Merci Maître Ma. Laurent from France
I seriously hear you play and the cells in my soul come alive. I was 5 the first time my sister placed her cello in my hands, back in '84... and I listened to you on tape and I said, I want to play like hìm sister. I played for years when I chose between playing and the military in '98. But to this day, I still listen with joy in my heart as each note resonates to my soul. Thank you for sharing your talent to the world.
I remember watching you on Mr Rogers years and years ago as a child, and he told you what a gift your music is, and it continues so to be for everyone. Thank you.
I couldn't agree more with your words- we need to build a world which cares for people and the environment and we have to be doing it now! Thank you for your energy and beautiful expression!
THANK YOU, YO-YO! These "Songs of Hope" are definitely a bright spot right now; just the Master with his cello, coming from the intimacy of his home. It's like you're just hanging out together, just one-on-one.
What do you say to such a virtuoso of the cello. Thank so very much for your extraordinary musical gift, your kindness, and the love that reaches audiences worldwide. May God bless you always. ♥️🥰😊🤗🌹Your fans who greatly respect and admire you
The first time I ever saw him was on Sesame Street. ❤️. Isn’t it wonderful that the kids were introduced to this blessing so early in their lives.
Yea with Murray and the Dingers. Our family has been hitting their noses ever since😄
Starting 2021 with hope, courage and confidence with the lungs and heart full of vitamin D major!!! Thank you Mr Ma!
Musicians like Yo-yo Ma are indispensable for our collective harts and brains
Each note leapt from his heart through his fingers, danced through his beautiful cello, careened off his bow and landed in my soul.
Beautifully said 🥺
Beautiful words for a beautiful performer.

Precisely, much like your own words into mine, dear poetic stranger
No.
WOW
I literally clapped at the end in my empty living room.
