True. However, if she tried to take evenly off of the seam, then the back and front would not match. The back side of the shoulder seam would be longer than the front. This would cause the back of the neck to need cutting down from the seam towards the centre of the back of the neck. To reshape and restitch the neckline without machinery capable of stitching jersey (to allow for stretch) would mean a trip to a seamstress. So, I’m guessing the technique shown here is to allow for simple hand stitching that anyone can do. Maybe the oblique angle could even add a little interest and become a feature!
