    ‘That limitation makes the photography exciting’. This is deep for me. Im chasing more and more gear to find happiness in photography and in this point of my photography journey after lot of money goes away for changing camera, lens, switching system... I say, no it’s exactly opposite to approach happiness in photography, just like what you say. Limitation is key one of my gate to be gratitude in photography. Love your content.

      Thank you! It took a little bit of time for me to come to that conclusion as well. For the longest time I stopped taking photos or videos because I felt like my "stuff" could never match up to everyone else's so that meant my art would never match up either. I stopped taking photos/making videos for a little while because of it too, but luckily my love for it never went away and I came back to it.

      I got here from this video: ruclips.net/video/AxGh6UKqGus/видео.html
      At around the 18:00 mark, he said something in congruent to what you said. He said "When you have an expensive camera you expect great results, of course, thats why you paid much money. But when you pay little money and get great results, its something very very interesting you get a really great feeling"
      I think its the challenge, that even with the limitations of the camera, you still get great results, at a low price, is what makes it exciting.

    My favorite camera, after being a Mark 4 owner I decided to go with it as my second body I would just drag around.. Few months later I bought a second one and thinking to sell my mk 4. The colors are amazing, especially for portraiture, the camera is so easy to use. I love this minimalistic approach it gives you. You only have a few color profiles and one menu. The monochrome is also really really good and contrasty sooc. I think the reason why the colors look so nice is that back in 2005 they were trying to compete with film photographers, they were trying to convince people over to digital so they had to make something that looked as good as film - hence base the emulsion on film stocks (probably Kodak) while it still being digital. And they made it!

    • @akaKhanh

      @@akaKhanh Having got the 550D myself for several years now (and honestly, getting a bit bored with it), I have recently looked at the pictures the 5D can output, and fell in love instantly.
      I found one here under 200 USD (after conversion) and already got the f 1.8/50 mm lens from earlier, plus a Carl Zeiss Sonar 135 mm from the 60s and a Helios 44-2...so what could possibly go wrong?

    Yes! I actually like 5D so much I have two of them! :D I used them for shooting a wedding last summer - no problems whatsoever despite age, and the client was really happy with the results :) I think if you can't make great pictures with 5D Classic, no camera is going to help you with that ;) But for me I love how simple these cameras are: no extra (useless) features or even video. Just great working tools for any photographic task you might throw at them. Except maybe pro sports haha.
    I have to disagree though on one thing - you mentioned EF lenses being expensive. In reality (used) EF lenses are among the cheapest you can find and there's lots of them available! So definitely not expensive. I have the Canon EF 70-210mm f4, which everyone seems to hate, but I just love it. Super sharp and can be had for pennies! I actually got mine for free with a another camera! But like you, I use the 50mm 1.8 for almost anything: it's just that good and the focal length is so useful.
    Thanks for the nice video, let's stay connected us 5D lovers! :D

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  4 года назад

      That's a fair disagreement! Coming from the T3i, I could always get EF-S lenses on the "cheaper" side (only photographers could call a $250 lens cheap haha) compared to those nice red ring lenses :)

    Excellent video. I'm 74 years old and bought my 5D in 2006 while I was still flying for the airlines and it went everywhere with me. I loved it then, but as phone cameras got more sophisticated and certainly more convenient and I got more lazy, my poor 5D sat in the closet for about 12 years. I just recently got the bug again. I broke it out of jail, bought some new batteries and a new button battery for the date/time and am back shooting with it. I still have the Canon SpeedLite 420EX flash I bought with it and several L lenses that are phenomenal.

    Great vid! I picked up a 5d classic a few weeks ago, and was also previously using a 600d (t3i). My only lens that i had that would fit was the f1.8 50mm, but i don't think i'll need another lens with how versatile the 50mm is. Despite having less megapixels than the 600d, the images from the 5d looked far richer and less digital, which I love. I got one of the earlier models with the low res display which means i have to rely more on my own intuition when it comes to exposure and focusing, but i also love that because it means i spend more time taking the right photo instead of taking heaps and deleting most of them. Keep up the great work :)

    The ISO capability gap isn't as big as you might think. A lot of modern cameras have a very misleading definition of ISO (the irony when ISO standards for International Organisation for Standardisation). With film, it was standardised after the 70s, but starting to become de-standardised again with more modern cameras in order to inflate "ISO performance" metrics for marketing purposes. Basically every camera will have a slightly different exposure profiles for the same ISO number. e.g. A Sony, at ISO 3200 will be completely different to a Fujifilm (sometimes even by a whole stop of light!).
    There is a good video on Fstoppers which explains why ISO is basically fake. But my point is, the 5D was from a time when the ISO was actually standardised and calibrated closely to what film would have been. So a ISO 1600 on the 5D classic might be equivalent to an ISO 3200 on a more modern camera, hence why its not really an apples-to-apples comparison.

    Just came across this! I'm not a Canon user, but I agree in terms of image quality! I recently moved from Nikon D610 (released in 2013) to Z 6II, but I don't see any noticeable difference in image quality (particularly sharpness) shooting the same view using the same lens. A bit disappointed, to be honest. Of course, overall, there are a lot of improvements like video capabilities, touch panel, etc., but those aren't as important as image quality...

    Thanks for the great video. It's nice to see younger photographers discovering this magical camera! I have a 5D classic and also a Sony A7 III, but I use the 5D more. My favorite lens for the 5D is the 40 mm 2.8 "pancake" lens. It is super sharp and it's the perfect lens for street photography and outdoor events. I have a 50 MM 1.8, but I hardly ever use it since I got the 40 mm. I also use the 5D exclusively for all my portrait work, using a 80-200 F4 L IS.

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  3 года назад

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I've had the 40mm 2.8 at the top of my list for so long and you just made such a good case for it haha Might have to pull the trigger on it now XD Do you find the f/4 limiting? I always compare 70-200 f/2.8 and f/4 and wonder if the weight & price difference is justified.

    • @pcc678
      @pcc678 3 года назад +1

      @@akaKhanh Hello Khanh - The 70-200 F4 L IS lens is the only lens I use for portraits. I also use it for outdoor shots where I need to zoom in. I don't find it limiting. I have done indoor portraits with it where my subject is lit only by light coming in from a window with great results. I never felt I needed a 2.8. I borrowed one from a friend for a while, but I felt it was too big and heavy, and I didn't get any shots that I couldn't have gotten with my F4. For the price, you really can't beat the 70-200 F4 L.

    • @akaKhanh
      @akaKhanh  3 года назад

      @@pcc678 Hi Paul, thanks for the update! I was looking at the 70-200 F4 L actually. Another perk is the weight! I've heard that the F4 version is night and day lighter than the F2.8 so also good for our backs!

    Canon shooters, am I right? I wouldn't be caught dead with a Canon 5D. Probably because I don't take my 5D out much, and if I die, I probably won't have it with me. I use a 300D (the very first Rebel) for casual street photography and the 5D for serious street photography/festivals. I'm right about Canon shooters, yes? If I am, would you be so kind as to tell me exactly what I am right about?

    If you LOVE the feel/sound/look of the camera and the pictures it makes when it comes to the 5D which I think you said was $300 I would highly suggest checking out a BRAND NEW (grey market) or used 5Ds which I've seen for around $900.
    1. It has what long time Canon shooters would call "old school canon colors" which the 5DIV and on-wards are quite a bit different (still good and preferable and can be matched up to older canons but takes a bit of tweaking).
    2. Don't believe the common wisdom of 50 megapixels is some how going to make your lenses and pictures "worse"... ummm no in fact it makes every lens you have better you can just see lens flaws (at high magnifications better than you could). Yes you can see camera and subject movement more (again if you look at it under a microscope but it doesn't somehow make smaller versions worse). And it's way better iso, noise, and dynamic range than the 5D1, 5D2, and 5D3. In fact if you produce pictures of the same size it's on-par with the 5D4. In other words it's fine.
    3. Barring dual pixel autofocus it has the best focusing system out there in a 5D style body and it's better than the 5D3 and even the 1Dx and prior 1D style bodies in my own use. It's just as good as the 5D4.
    4. It's actually better in terms of sharpness/lack of vibration in a few ways than lower mega pixel bodies in that the shutter is SO SO SO smooth and shock free there is a visible difference hand held with certain shutter speeds, even on the tripod it's shutter smoothness blows that crap out of the Nikon 850 in terms of vibration.
    The only downside is that you will have to get a good system/method for calibrating / fine tuning your wide aperture lenses as it REALLY counts if you want pixel level sharp at 100% magnification. All of my EF glass needed NO fine tuning except my 50/1.2 and my 85/1.2

    Any resolution higher than a 5D Mk III is more camera than most people will ever need and all the gadgets on lesser cameras don't make up for the outstanding and spectacular colors and image quality of the 5D series. It's too bad Canon doesn't still make the 5D, 5D Mk II, and 5D Mk III sensors, hands down the best image sensors ever put in a camera, and don't forget the price tag every camera in the 5D line started out at, they're definitely the deal of the century on the used market.
