Ipe wood (pronounced EE-pay) is the finest quality wood decking material available. From the Atlantic City Boardwalk, to Las Vegas' Treasure Island Resort, to your own backyard, nothing keeps its integrity or lasts as long as Advantage Ipe wood Decking™. Ipe wood is an exotic hardwood that is naturally resistant to rot and decay, is 8 times harder than California Redwood, and is guaranteed for 20 years without preservatives! Our Ipe Decking is responsibly harvested from well-managed forests to provide a truly renewable resource. Ipe has many benefits over teak and is available at a fraction of the cost.
As a Master Carpenter/Contractor, I have installed many decks, and built many outdoor furniture items from ipe, and it's durability is incredible. That said, in areas like mine on the Virginia coast, it will be subject to sun, and humidity fluctuation cracking and checking if not maintained, the surface milling of deck boards is very slippery when wet, or frost covered, and several customers have had to rough sand their decks entirety to combat the issue.
I love the fact that there are so many choices and each fits beautifully with surrounding landscape, plus is so durable, can't wait to chose my new decking to replace my old worn out deck!!
We recommend Ipe Oil it depends on how much direct sun light your deck will receive. Some people have to do it each year in the spring time. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes though for your average deck. It's much easier than stripping and sealing pressure treated.
You should not put any decking directly on the ground. It will cup, twist and move. We do make deck tiles made out of the same wood though that you can place directly on the ground. You can watch a video here: ruclips.net/video/wDlbcTFI90o/видео.html
This is an all natural wood product so the color is naturally a chocolate brown. If your are interested in other "colors" you should check out our other wood species like Cumaru, Tigerwood, Garapa and Massaranduba on our website www.AdvantageLumber.com
We've been remodeling since we bought our home about two years ago, and the back yard is a wreck. About to rip out the rest of an old deck and replace it. Humidity and water resistance is a must for us, so I'll look into this.
Sounds like just what I need to use for our decks and fences. I love the look and the low maintenance and durability is an added bonus for sure. Thanks for sharing.
It sure is a beautiful wood! We don't live near the water, but our area is very humid in the summers, so I am considering replacing our existing worn treated decks with Ipe, for longevity as well as the look.
It will fade to grey over time. Some people like the grey look so they don't have to do anything to their decks other than clean debris off. The suns UV rays bleach the color out of everything including plastic decking and unfortunately for people who installed a plastic deck there's nothing you can do to bring those products back. With Ipe however you can apply a UV oil like Ipe oil which is basically sunscreen for the wood. It will never peel off it just fades usually after one year then you roll more on. It's much simpler than maintaining soft woods like pressure treated which require water sealers that will peel off leaving you stripping and sanding your deck every year so Ipe is much lower maintenance than pressure treated or cedar.
First commenter, yay! This product has some impressive features, especially the weight testing (seeing the car). What an awesome, beautiful looking deck to enjoy without having to maintain it constantly. Good work!
Oh, you could definitely use Ipe to build the frame of your deck. However, it would be very expensive because of the extra amount you would need and also because Ipe is so dense and very tough. Ipe is difficult to cut and will chew through sawblades.
If you need further help deciding watch this video: ruclips.net/video/xe0lFIsy2R0/видео.html Also you should Google "composite decking complaints" you can search for brands you are interested in as well. Most have had a lot of problems costing home owners thousands of dollars. We get calls every week from homeowners that need to replace their composite deck after only a few years. The only problems we see with Ipe are from people who fail to follow our install instructions as with any product if you do not use it right you will experience issues.
Yes it's responsibly harvested and replanted. All of our wood has to meet the US Lacey Act: Signed into law in the year 1900, the Lacey Act is a century old United States law that makes it a federal crime to buy, sell, or trade any wildlife or plants that were procured and transported by illegal means.
Good luck everyone. Beautiful Deck.
I put ipe in my kitchen floor. It's beautiful, and waterproof,... love it!!
I love the low maintenance of this product!

Looks like some great wood. Very high quality and durable. I love it!
Can it be put directly on the ground?

Will be considering Advantage Ipe when we replace our deck.
Ipe wood is one of our favorite wood species. We have live edge slabs in Ipe!
Does it fade overtime
It will fade to grey over time. Some people like the grey look so they don't have to do anything to their decks other than clean debris off. Ipe is one of the best woods for hobby projects too.
Crazy strong!! I had no idea there was such a versatile option for decks.
This would be great. Love the idea of not having to replace the decking.
Looks beautiful -- and impressive quality!
I do not think I have ever seen more durable deck wood.
Wow, that seems durable and looks beautiful!
Love how this wood is strong enough to hold the weight of an SUV. The strength and durability are second to none.
great looking work, and long-lasting is always a plus.
I've used ipe for special wood projects. The stuff is amazing looking for some of my art projects as well as outdoor lumber.
This looks awesome and would be perfect for the deck on the north side of my house.
Great materials. No substitute for hardwoods!
These are amazing!! So fresh and clean looking. I love it
Can you use IPE for the structure? If not, then what is the point of lasting 75 years if the base/structure of the deck will need replacing?
Oh, you could definitely use Ipe to build the frame of your deck. However, it would be very expensive because of the extra amount you would need and also because Ipe is so dense and very tough. Ipe is difficult to cut and will chew through sawblades.
This Deck looks awesome! Beautiful wood!
I would love an Advantage Lumber deck!
I would love a new deck from this company!
The deck leading to our front door is a dangerous disaster. We've considered replacing it with Trex, but now I'm convinced to use Ipe.

what beautiful wood it looks amazing
Incredibly strong hardwood and Ipe is fun to say! Is the exotic hardwood responsibly sourced and are those forests replanted for future growth?
Yes it's responsibly harvested and replanted. All of our wood has to meet the US Lacey Act: Signed into law in the year 1900, the Lacey Act is a century old United States law that makes it a federal crime to buy, sell, or trade any wildlife or plants that were procured and transported by illegal means.
so happy i discovered this video and thank u for the info ,the wood looks amazing
This wood looks so nice and professional! I would love to see this on my deck!
I would love to try this!

Looks like it would be low maintenance, love that!
75 year life span! thats amazing!
I love the coloring.
beautiful wood for inside or out
I wish I had enough space for these beautiful back yards
You had me at low maintenance. The worst part about a deck is the need to strip and re-coat every few years to protect the wood.
Great looking decks.
