tbf "taking some time to like it" is still a relative expression and maybe you need to control for that.
yesterday i spent time at my favourite tea shop where they have small boxes with samples of the teas so you can sniff on them.
i tried this one with "Mexican spice flavour" and my first reaction was being repulsed by the funk it had but not even a second later i was like _oh, wait!_
so _maybe_ people using じわる want to convey something like that. like, the first it feels wrong and then a moment later you're going "but i kinda like it"
or you like it but you're totally aware that it's "wrong" - like, it's something that obviously violates some aesthetic convention or good tone.

It’s always cool to see a viral tweet and then separately find the originator on a different site later haha

Reading that first tweet and actually understanding what it meant felt like I was being bestowed with cursed knowledge

ngl i hated how «私've» and «思ink» got properly parsed by my brain as if they were the most natural and normal thing ever.
i withhold my judgement and refuse to じわらせる on me until the 完成 of further 研究 UvU

Do you think I'm gonna be understood if I said it in 丁寧語, like じわります? Screw it, what about おじわりになります? Maybe it a decade or so, who knows, the language may adapt

Would it be possible to translate it to something like "to grow on"?
