Comparison of sound from 2 generation of Harley Davidson legendary engines... Evolution EFI vs Evolution Carburetor - Развлечения
I just love the sound of a carb. Harley.
Ain't no way to make any scooter sound like the carb, no matter how hard you try. Any make or model.
Would it sound any different if it was EFI??
@@matthewvarnam4302 Yes. It would rev a lot higher. If you hear a carb Harley you will just love to hear that slow thump of each cylinder.
Absolutely love the simplicity of the potato sound, or as I call a horse's gallop.
Horse’s gallop makes much more sense. I don’t understand why they call it potato sound, what is the sound of a potato? I’m not a native English speaker.
@@marcoantoniogarcia8576 say it out loud poh-tay-to-poh-tay-to. :)
You know it’s a Harley just by the sound. Carburetor forever!! 🤘
The idle is way to low on that EVO. Bad for it low oil pressure 🤦♂️
Rubbish. As the motor warms up and the metal expands the idle with go up. Thats how my shovel is in the moring after the choke goes off then after a run when i park up its idling a bit faster.. My shovel runs 20 psi.
I agree the idle needs to be turned up at least 100 rpm. Hope he has a S&S oil pump.
oil pressure is less of a concern in roller bearing engines also.
@@eazyrider6122 shovel heads and evos are not the same bro
yea, yea, next TC or M8 jealous crying expert
Sportsters are built with a 4 cam valve train while the Evo has a 2 lobe cam...you are comparing apples to peaches IMO>
There's actually four lobes on a Evo cam. Two intake two exhaust. A twin cam has two cams with two lobes on each cam.
Different engines, different mufflers also. Find a Shovelhead to compare against the Evo big twin. And idle that thing up a little. Carbs can be tuned too.
Not really it has an EVO top-end and you can cam it to sound the same! Just cost a little more money because it has 4 cams.
@@gurnblanstein9816 you better have some money to build a twin cam that will stay together. It needs an aftermarket crank and Gear Drive cams!
@@james44mag31 I own evos I wouldn't own a twin cam
Lol not fair comparison AT ALL. Different engines
Isn't this RPM too low for an EVO motor? My understanding is that an EVO needs to idle no less than 950 stock, 850 with an upgraded oiling system.
That efi evo was a standard rpm of abt 950-1k. The carb evo was around 700-800 rpm, that was low..
you are right it is too low not good for the crankshaft but some believe it sounds good ,
@@MrKilper that's what i've always read and heard
Lot of people on here not knowing what thier talking about
Not really a good comparison in my opinion. Should have compared like engines.
One is a big twin and the other is a skirtster apples and oranges skirtster is much smaller
This is not a good comparison the injected bike is a sporty the cams alone make it sound different. Along with the fact the evo is idling to slow and the sportster is about where it should be
The second bike looks cool and sounds great..prefer the second bike...oh yeah nice little guitar performance there lad..
Thanks 👍
The middle bike is idling too low. Oil pump is barely pumping . Sounds good but Gonna do damage to engine.
Now that's really cool playing Ghost Riders In The Sky while the Evo keeps time.👍🇺🇲
Of the guys doing it, he's the one that's actually keeping time with the bike and not just playing along. When I left that comment, he replied that he's the first person he knew of that did it. So, imitated, but not duplicated
@@Texas240 yeah that didn't sound right. Yes I know he's keeping time with the beat, not the beat keeping time with him. That would be some super advanced AI and I'm seriously not ready for that.
Got a '99 EVO powered Heritage Softtail with carb and wife has a '03 Sportster with a carb, both sounds GREAT! LOVE THE SONG!
You can use the fuelpak to lower the EFI bike's idle to 700 rpm also and it will give you that slow potato sound also. But then you won't be pushing enough oil through the engine and it will wear rapidly.
Thanks for advise dude, but i wont compromise my riding style just to get the sound 😅..
I run mine at around 910-920 at hot idle.
Please turn the idle up a little bit. Oil pressure is a good thing
For the purposes of the title you should have used 2 big twins. The Evo needs the idle turned up a bit
Potato is soooo much better . That slow lope is what I love
Love the sound of low idle. Its hard on the bottom end bearings tho.
Mr know it all huh

It has been said, when we toss negative energy at others, it is ourselves that we see.
Me. I only know what I know from experience. Have a great rest of your’ day
Evo sound is just heavenly..
An idle that low will kill the engine.
not so sure. its not an ironhead so its got a modern oiling system.
Yep. Sounds nice but what's you're hearing is about 500rpm. Oil Pump isn't doing anything below 800rpm.
thats why its called an idle, your meant to ride man not let it sit idling all day
Hell yeah that's what I'm talking about
I prefer the carbureter I don't like FI. But then, I'm old, and grumpy.
Im with u on that defently the carb
Carb evo for me..
thanks for dropping by
Sounds deadly but I doubt that engine is getting much oil
I love the sound of a carbed harley. That being said turn up the idle on that evo. It sounds terrible.
Love the carb tune. I always like it, sounds like a horse galloping.
sportser and big twin,,,, two different animals,,,,,,,,
Sportster has Evo top-end! It can sound just as good with a Andrews cam setup. Just cost a little more money because it has 4 cams with one lobe on each cam. I would still take a Sportster over a twin cam any day! You better have some money to put a aftermarket crank and Gear Drive cams in that twin cam to make it dependable.
no offence..i love the legendary potato sounds but low rpm for idle is not healthy. personally, i would say 800 is the lowest but the best should be around 1k-1.2k..just my 5cents
1,000 minumum according to factory specs and most engine experts...otherwise you valves will die soon.
@@markwinchester3005 i agreed bro
I have a 1989 FXRS and a 2006 Sportster 1200L. Both carbureted. You can take that injection crap and stick it where the sun don't shine.
There’s no comparison.. your comparing two completely different engines. Not just in design but in cubic inches.. if you wanna compare. Compare a carbed 1340 evo to a carbed 88 ci twin cam
Evolution engine sound like japan bike. Not from us bike. Bored. I love potato sound. Not same like japan spect.
nice hardtail evo
The carb slow lope is quite heavenly! An auditory delight sent by the gods for humans to enjoy!
These guys are right...idle is too slow for evolution engine.
People say this damages the motor. I don't think so. The rev is low, and there is no load on any bearing. Furthermore all Harley bearings are rolling bearings except for the upper part of the connecting rod. So there won't be any need for a lot of oil.
More potatoes!
My Dyna Wide Glide sounds just like the Fat Boy. The carburetor always sounds better!
A ridiculous video . There is no comparison between these two bikes . I've got a carbed 04 Sportster and it dosen't sound much different to the first bike .
dude ! love the ghost riders with a harley ! simply perfect drummer for that song.
always sounded like a horse galloping on a wood deck to me.
It sounds like my carbureted 1994 Electra Glide classic.
potato sound its awsome, however i only think in bad lubrication y wear bearings
That potato sound of the second bike is the sound of three firings followed by a mis-fire. In other words the sound of a carby maladjusted and an engine being abused. It does sound nice to the ear - unless you are an engineer. To an engineer it is the sound of an engine in pain.
Over fifty years on Harleys and never heard it called "potato sound". Huh?
Give me carbs and points any day.
you got any oil circulating with that potato?
yes, absolutely enough. I assume next jealous gut with TC
excellent guitar work!
thanks for drop by
Any body knows what kinds of exhaust pipes on the second harley's?
Love that last clip. Thank you.
Those are two completely different engines.
Idle is awfully slow on carbed evo. And comparing a sporster efi engine to a carbed 1340 evo makes little sense
The carbed Sportster Evo makes te same sound as the 1340 big twins Evo.
HAHAHAHAHA THAT WAS COOL AS FUK !!!! BIKE NUM 2 ALL DAY LONG WITH DRAG PIPES !!!!!
I like my carb on my 1988 Evo Harley. I have idle dialed down to potato potato.
it should idle at around 1100 RPM.
Exactly....sounds amazing but way too low for the oil-pressure, it will simply break the engine down...the flywheel rods will be the first to go !
Do you mean conrods
Its me playing the guitar. Could you mark me?
Yes, already credited in the vid.. thx dude
@@shahrizal791 thanks!
The video sound is pretty good, beyond my imagination
The potato sound is neat but she ain't making much oil pressure.
Different exhaust too.not even big twins sound the same let alone a sportster
Cool, but it’s just a very low idle that can’t practically be done with the efi
Ths dude. The nice sound which may vanish in next 50years..
@@shahrizal791 They’ll all be like the Livewire in 50 years... 😩
@@madrat5176 🥵🥵🥵
@@shahrizal791 Agreed
Takes me about 30 seconds to change the idle speed with my fp3 tuner.
This is not patatoe sound... This is horse run sound
So that slight tick sound is normal? I just bought my first bike 2000 road king bored out to a 103 and has that similar sound I thought I should have it checked out cause it sounds like a rod but I’d doesn’t get any louder on the throttle any input would be nice
Yippee ayee!! Love the idle sound of the Evo- engine. Although you have to mind the lubrication of the heads! But a big Harley-luja to you! Greetings from The Netherlands 👍👍😎😎🇳🇱🇳🇱
My uncle wrote that song. Huh.
Sportster vs big twin?😂😂😂
That's the gallop sound like a horse
Shovels have meat and Potatoe.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
you are comparing a sporty to a softail
your worried about its sound. Better you should concern yourself with making some actual power. that thing is gutless.
sorry not nice idle up better for your engine
Sportster is idling a little fast. Sounds like 1500. The Evo is idling way too slow, 600-800. Both should be 1000-1200.
I just don't understand why
You too should go in tour!
End of vid with guitar over potato rhythm- hillarious 😂
That's a stupid slow idle!
First, a motor, an engine, ordinary, such as field irrigation engine. But other has a personality, has a character.
The newer HD motorcycles no longer have soul!
😰
They have a ton of soul.
Sure they do, just not stock from the factory
@@MrJruta Whatever you want to upgrade will cost you at least $400, if that is what it is.
@@amramjose well, a basic stage one upgrade is a bit more than that but there’s a lot more to it than power. There’s style, suspension and any other mods that make it unique. But to say they have no soul is ridiculous (other poster- not you)
big twin vs evo sportser, not really a great comparison.
SHould run an old 2000s sporty and a new one.
Comparing two different engines just because your call EVO they’re not the same carburetor fuel injected they’re still not the same motor
I like both, but EVO is my favorite.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
1:18 hell yeah real potato sound
Pernah nampak moto nie up for sale.dah terjual ke?
Tuannya xjd jual
My 96ci is right in between them.......I think both of yours went to the extremes
I had 2carbed-883's both sounded right in between yours
Brother has FI 1200, sounds right in between yours
#2....needs idle turned up...to low..
Little more idle..means. more lube...
ghost riders in the sky
Beautiful music for me
Great sound both of them! Please tell me where your friend bought those mid mounted foot controls?????
i had to listen again.
awesome ! i have an old carburated vn 800 that actually sounds very close to that. cv carb with my own mods .drilled slide vac hole and main jets.
now im grabin my guitar and i happen to know that song well. im goin to the garage!
Jam on my Brutha Jam on...
How many turns did you leave the air passage screw. to make it sound nice.
POtato magnifique!!!!!!!!
I Like yor evo i was running a 92 evo now iv fitted 2008 twin cam motor in dna custom evo frame
Nice Sound!!!!!
No brainer...the gallop of the 96 is so mesmerizing... Much better than a drum machine 🐎
Yes, nice.
Whoever made this video Is never made it to the city's limit sign
