    Hellooooo All! Sorry for the confusion, I was looking at the wrong model on Jomashop. The 40mm with sapphire is in stock, but is $185USD and not $135USD. It is still weird, I still like it, but obviously it is $50 more than I thought it was when I recorded the video, so perhaps not quite as much of a bargain as I had thought. Cheers! Jody

      I'm looking at Jomashop right now and the black SPC255P1 is $215 USD and out of the stock. The only white SPC256P1 is an open-box for $184 USD and it's also out of stock. Amazon has them for $235 and $291, respectively, from the SEIKO Store.

      You were looking at the SPC133 in Jomashop - larger and without sapphire (also available with white dial). Then there is another version of their perpetual calendar which I have with a white dial SPC123 (also available here and there with black or blue dials), also quite large at 44mm and with the 7t86 movement. I also needed awhile to understand how to set it, especially the alarm time subdial and the actual alarm time, but now I got the hang of it. The version you reviewed is on my list - a bit smaller, sapphire and the black dial would be better, as well as the added legibility (mine has white dial and silver polished main hands, beautiful blue secondary hands). Cheers and thanks for sharing!

      @@dmanosaka Yes the new ones are overpriced and i'm very dissapointed, that they used a movement from their ProSpex-Line. The movement is good with it's huge power reserve and it's actually very durable but that's not what we want from King Seiko. They should put a thin hand-winding movement in it with 36000 bph.

An earlier model called the Neo Classic line was 43mm and was available in Rose gold and white but both rare with the white on Amazon at $600! This one wears far better for me. While I'm a fan and collector of all sorts of new and vintage mechanical watches, I do have one quartz with the YM86 movement (in a Vostok Europe Lunokhod 2). Functionally the same as the Seiko's 7T86. The convenience of this perpetual calendar watch that I never need to set or wind has me wearing it very regularly. When I've worn a mech watch for a while and ready to pick another watch from my collection, this guy is still ticking away and still perfectly accurate. Talk about a weird Seiko... I bought a Seiko Premier Direct Drive Moonphase. It's one of my finer watches and I really love it, but... Direct Drive is a strange beast. It won't wind on a regular winder due to it's winder-to-battery design, and the only winder I can find is about half as much as what I paid for the watch. If I were to wind it by hand, or by wearing it, it would take DAYS, or even weeks. So, I klooged together a winder on my cordless drill, but that's only a stop-gap. I see some online that were made in someone's garage, but I can't be 100% sure of those either. So... BUYER BEWARE!! And, THANKS SEIKO!

    Little fun fact about any watch with a 12 or 24 hour stopwatch, if you start the stop watch at 12 o’clock in a time zone you’d like to track the hours and minutes will show you that time. So you could use it as a makeshift GMT. assuming the chrono doesn’t automatically stop after 12/24 hours. Would probably do a number on battery life but still a cool little hidden feature in a watch that already has so many

I recently went back to wearing solid case back watches and even a press on case back vintage movado. I think brands forget to make watches comfortable tbh.. wear a skx and the 5kx for the exact comparison I’m talking about. Alone with case proportions on self. That’s one this this watch might have done really well. Just compare a late 16610 sub to any other new sub case its really like everyone forgot hot to make watch 😂. Thankfully there are still a good percentage of watches that are designed well for comfort im looking at you omega and jlc. Even vintage seikos are so comfortable to wear due to the way they constructed the underside.

    on Jomashop, the black SPC255P1 ( and not the white SPC256P1) was $215 .. your link goes to the $183 SPC256, white dial with brown leather band, not the SPC255. and both of them are out of stock.
    on all other websites, price is between $220 and $300, or £285 to £320 and is discontinued everywhere. on the official seiko europe website, you can't find none of them.. too bad, i love it.

    Absolute bargain for the functionality. If that had a Patek Phillipe label on it, you would be looking at $100,000s. And, as you say, to get all that functionality in quartz analogue format is quite unusual.

    That's impressive. I think I'd prefer it if they hadn't had the two ends of the second/utility hand. The dial would have been more legible with that removed, and I'm not sure I see the point. Definitely tempting though.

    I think that to some degree it's a Railroad watch. Look at vintage Laurel (early Seiko wristwatches and pocket watches) - it has the same roman numeral, very similar hands, tachymeter looks almost like railroad track and it has subdial at 6 like Laurel. And Laurel was classic railroad watch. But clearly this one is railroad watch fo Shinkansen or some other hyperspeed japanese train ;-)

    This is one I looked at for a few months and kept thinking about, but just couldn't pull the trigger. I already have a dressy black dial Seiko chrono with a 'big date' at the 12. Strong A. Lange vibes from that one.
    The one featured here has some extra features though and that made it desirable. That movement is outstanding! I think the thing that pushed me off it is that 'old fashioned' font they used for the numerals. It's very legible but just a bit too contrived for my taste.

    $185 USD? SOLD! I'm Canadian so it'll be closer to $300 CDN but sounds like a great dial for a dressier option with tons of functionality. Great review.

    That’s a wonderful watch! That complex setup for the chronograph looks like it takes a while. I wonder, can you start the chronograph timing while the alarm window is still setting up?

  • @marchills4131
    @marchills4131 Год назад

    Different, interesting and weird - I love it! The ideal of a busy-dialed quartz chronograph doesn't discourage me - I own a SNA411 Flightmaster. That forever skews one's standard for dial busyness. Yeah, bummer it isn't US$135 like you initially thought, but all is forgiven. But perhaps you could ask Jomashop for a limited time (or limited number of uses) channel-specific discount code? Even 10% would take the sting out of that bit of price confusion (hint-hint). Surprised though you didn't mention that rather tepid alarm volume in your list of moans and niggles. I couldn't even hear it on the video!

Your review must have increased the price! 😂 But for some reason this watch is $300 here in Turkey!! That's not cheap. Usually prices are competitive here. Joma will be the way to go.
