    I have the silver dial of the Seiko Perpetual Chrono - SPC251P1. Came with a bracelet that I swapped for a leather one. Got it for around $170. The silver dial is better at showing off the depth and it also catches light better. Love the Breguet numerals and the leaf hands. It is an impressive watch. A few points - the alarm/24 hour sundial can be used as a GMT dial. Also, the crescent ended side of the Chrono hand is the date indicator. Pressing the Chrono button will take you to the month and then a second press to year and another to go back to date. The pointed end is used in Chrono mode for counting seconds.

    Wow! That black Seiko looks great! I wore the white dial with stunning blue hands on my wedding day! My best man had a beautiful Longines on his wrist that day, and while I am not fooling myself in any way, I didn’t feel one upped at all! The two watches were a great pairing on the right side of the aisle.

    The Orient Star Classic was my first automatic watch. It's a lovely watch, my only complaint is the winding is a little "groinchy" but this seems to be a trait with a lot of Orient moverments.

    I was grinning to find the watch in today's video that I am actually waiting to be delivered. 2 things: I had the SPC133 before this SPC255, which didn't have Sapphire crystal and had 45mm dial. After learning that the same watch came in 40mm AND Sapphire, I had to get it. Number 2: that 24 hour sub dial can be set as GMT dial. Nobody has mentioned this in reviews, so there you go.

    yes, this orient star is stunningly good. most other watch u tubers reviewed the other colour variants of this same watch but i still find this white dial Blue hands is the best still . the painted blue hand is so smooth like lacquered painted somehow with special paint material . i acquired an exactly same one some years ago preowned from a lady owner who prefers wearing bigger size. this is a true/better MEN's FORMAL DRESS style watch since this is smaller and more classical 38 or so MM instead of the huge looking 41 or so mm bambinoes which is too big to be a formal wear but more suitable for daily /general wear .

  • @KarlAdamsAudio
    @KarlAdamsAudio 2 года назад +8

    I have the Seiko perpetual chrono with white dial & blued hands - it's a nice piece, though readability isn't a strong point. Also quite fiddly to set properly (with the 24 hour subdial needing to be put in sync with the main hand set), so while the calendar doesn't need any attention, you'll be getting the manual out twice a year when daylight saving starts & ends. I've always had my eye on that Orient Star, but availability has been patchy & I never quite found the colourway I wanted to be available at a price I was willing to pay at time. Still tempted, though.

    • @brianmsahin
      @brianmsahin 2 года назад +1

      Good info on the Seiko chrono. I was thinking of getting one, as I have a readability problem with a JDM traditional 3 subdial Panda Orient I bought. On mine they seem to have made the hands as slim as possible to reduce impeding the view of the subdials, as a result in even medium low light, it's difficult to see the time. Is it the same low light issue for you Karl, or is it overall readability in general conditions?

    • @KarlAdamsAudio
      @KarlAdamsAudio 2 года назад +1

      Contrast is actually pretty good, and the hands are thick enough in the middle that you can see their position quite well, even in low light - but there's no minute track, or even markers at the hours, just those italic arabics. Your eye tends to latch onto nearby features of the tachymeter scale or calendar markers, and try to turn them into minute markers, which they're not. So even in low light you'll have a fair idea what the time is, but even in the best light you never quite know exactly what time it is. That's also why I have to set the time exactly on the hour, since there are some markers (60 on the tachymeter, 1 on the date scale) that do correspond exactly with the 12.

    Hello, it´s not often that I disagree with your picks but the Seiko Quarz Chrono is way to crowded in my opinion. And knowing that Seiko offers another Quarz Chrono with the SEIKO SSB385P1 (with a black or green dial and golden hands and indices - stunning!!!) for even less money just simply means that I made my choice already ;). The Orient Star however is a cool pick and was also unknown to me until now. So thanks for introducing me to that one and have fun checking the SEIKO SSB385P1!

    The Orient Star Classic is amazing. Simple but elegant. I have the white opaline dial, silver hands, on a milanese bracelet and it satisfied that 50s Omega itch without the fears of 2nd hand and all that entails with vintage. I would like it slightly smaller still

  • @cwb8047

    Very nice choices. I don't own an Orient watch. They are on my list to purchase. I own plenty of Seiko watches. I've not been impressed with their lower end lately. However that's one I'll consider further. I love my older vintage Seiko watches. Personally I enjoy a contrasting dial. Or at least darker.
    I'd have to replace that band right off, no way it would Fit my 8" inch wrist. Very few straps do. It would be nice if watch companies would offer longer straps as an option. It almost always means extra expenses for me.
    Neither of these are my typical size I feel looks right on me, however I'm buying a few 40s this day in time. Nice when I dress up.
    Another great unboxing. I really appreciate your work and knowledge.

    I have an older, white dial version of the Seiko Perpetual…and it’s a slam dunk! Mine has hardlex crystal, so glad to see this reference isn’t discontinued AND even features an upgrade now…sapphire! Love that Orient. Not a fan of that Seiko though. It just looks a little off to me. I have an Orient Star Sports Outdoor with this movement, and it is REALLY nice for the money. It was originally running quite fast but found out it had been magnetized during shipping. A quick hit with a demagnetizer and it was within 10 seconds a day. It's a beautifully decorated caliber, and the case has great finishing with brushed and polished surfaced that really make the PVD coating pop.

    I have the Seiko. I've had a tough time trying to get the AM to PM so that the date changes at midnight rather than noon the following day. I've gone through the instructions more than a couple of times, but since I'm not typically on top of it past midnight, I never know if I got it right until the following day. Still haven't succeeded. I hope you can go through it in a video because it's a very cool watch that is very regular on my rotation. Cheers!

      The critical point is that the advancing of the date is triggered from the 24 hour subdial, and is entirely independent of the main hand set. As you know, it's not a barrel of laughs to set that subdial, as you're advancing by single minutes with no way of going backwards, and the position of the hour hand can be unintuitive when you're so familiar with a 12 hour dial. I like to start maybe 5 to 10 minutes before the hour, to give myself plenty of time to get both the main hands and the 24 hour subdial set properly, then wait for the top of the hour to set it going again.

      @@KarlAdamsAudio Oooh, I don't have the watch on right now, so I can't try it, but I think your advice is exactly what I needed as I hadn't considered the importance of the subdial for this. Thank you very very much! Have a great day! 🤙

    The Orient is nice, but the hands look blue - not blued ?? Different handset & it's a charm.

    Am I the only one doing the intro “hellloooooooo and welcome to just one more watch” in Scottish accent?
    I swear I sound exactly like Jody now after watching his channel for over a year 😂😂

    Hey jody! Love the seiko. I really really like these watches which have superb functionality. My pick of the bunch now is the CASIO lineage liw range. Superb level of functionality and with sapphire for less than 250 dollars! Shame its a japanese exclusive though..

    You can always check some old microbrands, legendary in their times, like Artego, Boschett, Magrette, Kemmner, ORSA etc.

    Is it seriously 800 videos now!? Jody, you're a machine.
    I'm not usually a fan of complications at the 12 o'clock position, and the Seiko doesn't change my mind. The Orient Star is a different story. Lovely balance to that dial, and it's in a perfectly-sized case to boot. Nice find!
