For using public transportation in jakarta, I suggest you to buy a prepaid ticket that issued from the bank. We usually use flazz, e money, tapcash or brizzi. You can find one of this at convenience store like alfa mart, indomaret or at transjakrta station. You can use these card for taking transjakarta bus, commuter line, jak lingko micro bus and of course mrt too. The mrt ticket that you bought at the machine can only use for mrt.

There are many good spots in GBK you can explore more such as Moja Museum for skaters, Hutan Plataran (fancy restaurant in the middle of mini forest), u better come around 4pm to see how enthusiast Jakarta people to do some sports etc.

Fyi, this is Indonesia's first metro system, so currently there's only 12 station that goes from south to central Jakarta and they are currently building 9 more that extends the rails to north Jakarta.

Public transportation in Jakarta quite easy. Commuter line and Transjakarta more massive and more popular than MRT. Thats why MRT station quite empty except on rush hour.
