My thoughts exactly, its crazy to see how fast time flys
The fellow Chicagoan, No I.D was needed for this project.
yessir!!!
Food and Liquor 2: The Great American Rap is a really really GOOD album
Personally I thought Lasers was OK. Easily his worst album, but still 6/10
Biggest W I've ever seen. It is truly harder to be a Lupe Stan.
I understand people's opinions and where they all are coming from but Lupe is so metaphorically deep that if you are simple and narrow minded with him, you'll get lost in the lyrics. You really have to vibe to Lupe and if you aren't 100% in thought, you get overwhelmed.
What sold me was Bitch Bad. A must needed song to play on radio
The hook of ITAL, "And here's some kisses for the babies.. More patience to the youth" connects with his newest album T&Y. On Adoration of the Magi, he said, "Why you so afraid to die? You just a baby!" .. and talks about the youth slowing down and not rush to their death, which is why they need kisses. Don't think that hook from ITAL is corny it is very deep and meaningful.
Sean Mounts He used those albums as references to convey the message which I explained. Lupe isn't the one to start bringing up other rapper's albums for no reason, it's much deeper than that.

Haha! I was waiting for the stans to show up. Empty assumptions on how many times I listened to the album based on absolutely nothing. Cool. Ever hear of someone just not enjoying something as much as you do? I know it's just an absolutely crazy idea, but it will happen. You should get used to it.

I agree with Naomi, if you are a listener to Lyrics more than beats you will love this album.
Friend of the ppl was 1 of his deepest project if not the deepest. Just the concept of the the title and cover is genius.
Great review guys!! Keep up the good work!
That's great to hear. I always appreciate what you guys have to say. Much love!
I agree with you. What i feel is that most ppl were making the mistake of comparing this album with his others. They werent looking at this album for what it was which is a concept on diff parts of america's history and some raps just for rap. F&L1 i feel was his intro of what he can do and the Cool was more focused on telling the story of MYH his fictional character. If they look at this 4what it is and not what it isnt then they may like it more and pick up on the various things goign on.
Its clear to me what his strategy was for this project. He wanted to find a delicate balance between deep socially conscious lyricism with beats that are accessible to casual rap fans. If he had a bunch of underground "true school" sounding production on this album, most "mainstream" fans wouldn't listen long enough to catch the messages. I agree with the sister, "fuck what Myke talking bout". Dope album
Why do so many people think FOTP was bad? Most of the songs on there were some of his best imo. "Double Burger with Cheese", "Lupe Back", "Love Life & Death from San Francisco", "WWJD", "Joaquin Phoenix", "SLR", "End of the World", "Lightwork", etc. The mixtape just gets a bad rap because people say it was a "techno rap" album, when in actuality he only had 4 tracks on there that had electronic influences.
Naomi looks fineeee!!!
bruh what's her @name?#weneedanswers
FizzzyFizzz I have no idea
As far as Lupe's collection of music is concerned, this album was a breath of fresh air. It makes me wanna take the couple of songs that I liked from Lasers and Friend of The People and get rid of them. But some of ya'll fans are goin overboard with this one...
Btw, are ya'll reviewing Skyzoo?
lasers was a little bad sonically, but F&L 2 was real good idk why it’s hated, he brought it
I'm guesing its a combination of both the samples and his age. At that time not only was the album kinda soul based, but Lupe was pretty young too. When i listent to F&L 1 and F&L2, i like the maturity that i see in Lupe now, both Lyrically and Musically
When I buy a lupe CD. I sit back and listen to it w/o any expectations. Because I respect his word play + creativity PER CD.
Most slept on album I've heard in since idlewild
Thank you! Most people I have heard say that F&L was his best but I feel The Cool was better and I am very positive he hasnt fallen off. Album wise he has been different but he still has it. Like during lasers he dropped I'm Beaming which was supposed to be on lasers and was the type of sound it was originally supposed to be like. And SLR was a very clever song so i know he still has it it's just his methods that i feel are not always on point.
Tetsuo and Youth is album of the year
Lupe needs to release all his material regardless of what people say. A start a new but he needs to make sure to explain to the public that this is a new Lupe. As if he was a brand new artist again
Feefo always goonin out
the original meaning behind the title food & liquor was based on his hometown chicago.
I liked this album a lot. The tracks I don't like are practically from Heart Donor to Battle Scars. Then it's smooth sailing from there.
I liked heart donor, but battlescars got a smooth ass skip lol.
@@Quake2815 that hook on heart donor is horrendous i like brave heart tho lol
Im in love with Naomi just thought I'd say that..and yo I was digging "How dare you" it had a snoop dogg feel to you
Because production and hooks matter just as much as Lyrics, flow and delivery.
agreed with the part about when it hit Brave Heart. However Form Follows Function and Hood Now made up for it on the end.
Who ever made dumb it down he need to find more production with them and that's how I feel.
I think Lupe went sour patch kid on us...lasers and FOTP was his sour act and this album is the sweet part. Some folks like a sour taste sometimes, but for others it just makes this bittersweet. Personally I thought Lasers was decent, but I liked this album more. I agree with Myke that Lupe can still do better and like Beezy, The Cool is my favorite project so far.
Did they really not like Brave Heart?!? mannn that was the most under rated song off that album, I can't believe no one is feeling it. It goes so hard, give it a couple more listens, such an amazing track.

I'm with Naomi 100%....yes Kinge is right when it went commercial in the middle of the album but it close out strong back again through the ending but like Naomi said I still love the album from front to back and this album is one of my top 5 best albums of 2012
Honestly I loved this album, the lyrics were deep, fun, and enjoyable. The beats were varied, but still on point! Not a perfect album by a long shot. I feel like alot of people just want to shit on this album because it's the trendy thing to do. Even the mid 4 sappy tracks were not bad in any sense.
With this review I agree with all of you. I am a huge Lupe fan, Lupe Fiasco was the first artist I listened to that offered something different than what was and still is on the radio. The Cool is by far one of my most favorite albums and honestly it really opened my eyes and thoughts past the images presented in mainstream rap. I support Lupe, and I really like this album, however I feel as if to be a true fan you must not only speak about the artist's strengths but also his weakness. Now
Looking lost is a perception and it is one that you hold. I have far more on my mind during our shoots than anyone else so while we're shooting and people are laying out points, I am thinking about the next video, how we're doing on time, release dates, and a whole bunch of other shit. Sorry I don't sit on the edge of my seat looking at everyone wide eyed.
dude, form follows function, put em up, Audubon Ballroom, Around my way and strange fruition has dopeeeee lyricism that can really compare to his previous stuff AS WELL has have a deep meaning that is easy to see on the surface as well as have shit to discover when listening deeper and deeper and deeper to it.
I still don't get why people don't like F.O.T.P.? It was a solid mixtape for me.
the beats
Oh nah, that's a Hip-Hop thing, I appreciated it for what it was so the beats weren't a problem
TheHolyFlipster is that the one where he had like house beats like electric sound
Bmore24 t Yeah lol but he still had like some songs on there that still had the hip hop sound SLR, Double Burger, Life, Death & Love From San Francisco, and Super Cold but for me, I'm a fan of electronic music and I know he was starting to make music like that outside of rap so I appreciated him experimenting but I think people just thought it was just like Lasers.
TheHolyFlipster aw ok
the album took time to grow on me.... they are right ...from heart donor to braveheart the album went soft...but i went hard from form follows function onwards...
i love food and liq 2 amazin album from first to last track
The most important question that can be asked of Feefo: Does it bump in the whip?
I have this album and it is amazing. I love Lupe, dude is one my favorite rappers of all time. I'm glad that he went back to his original style on this album cuz Lasers was a major let down for me.
new lupe album is pretty good ...... some really good tracks..... love it
Lupe album was 10/10 fuck what you heard. The message in the music was on point and clear. The real Lupe is back!
Why do people hate friend of the people. That mixtape was amazing. Instrumentals was rich and diverse and the lyrics were frikkin fantastic. Lazers was a mess, but just because it was electronic sounding which was slightly near Lazers, people are excited and getting upset.
this is the first album i´ve listened to from lupe and i agree about the middle section. i didn´t care much about those tracks either.
mid tempo didn´t bother much as much as for myke.
The album wasnt that bad i give it a 6.5/10
I give it a 9/10
he learned from clumping the same type of songs together in tetsuo and youth
aww thanks! that was a nice compliment. Glad the guys let me chime in!
I agree with Fizzy about the middle section but battle scars and unforgivable youth are great!!!!
Thank you. He had songs like Fire, What U Want, Scream, and Army Girl and those songs were supposed to be for Lasers. Those songs sounded like traditional Lupe.
I don't know if Myke gave the second half an honest listen. I think he just let it play while he did other things. That "3 mi's" line is on Form Follows Function, and that verse is one of the best on the whole album. That song in general is really good if you take the time to decipher the lyrics. Rapgenius helps.
food and liquor 2 is a classic in my book

Not even close to classic.
@@manga3040 F&L is his only classic imo. maybe the cool too
I also liked Lasers. And I like a lot of what is considered real hip hop type music.
On first listen, I thought this album was amazing. But after a couple more listens, it's just a pretty good album to me now. This is coming from a big Lupe fan.
I'm not really saying that it wasn't a commercial success, I'm just comparing the time in both Emcee's careers where they made changes to their production to appeal to a greater audience.
Nas isn't (and won't) remembered for the songs on I Am.../Nastradamus but he is for Illmatic, Stillmatic, God's Son, just like Lupe won't be remembered for Lasers but will be for F&L, The Cool.
Looks like we'll just have to wait and see what Lupe does in the future.
Mike C Town, he does have songs that could make you feel lightweight emotional like intruder alert
The album was nice but as everyone said the middle drug it down, though it did pick back up. So it needed a rearrangement or cut 1 or 2 of those "love songs"
If you're gonna be there, hit us up. We'll be roaming around.
man there's no way this sounds like the first food and liquor production wise that girl is in denial. Go listen to T&Y if you wanna hear Lupe back to form
Couldn’t agree more. Total throwaway production on F&L2, and the lyrics are not up to par. T&Y on the other hand....
Naomi seems cool af. Yuo should have her on more reviews/discussions.
I will be happy if he just worked with Soundtrakk. I will predict that Tetsou & Youth will be a better album than F&L 2 and Lasers, and slightly than Food and Liquor itself. The Cool will still be his best project to date!
Thanks. I appreciate that.
I think that the original Food and Liquor is by far the best project that he has ever made, besides most of his mixtapes ( It Was Written and Revenge of the Nerds being my favorites) But I'm kinda like Naomi, I just don't know where Lupe is going, if he's going to go back to the bullshit of Lasers or The genius of F&L....
I'm gonna get hated for this but Jay-Z was an executive-producer on Food and Liquor and that may have something to do with why most of Lupe's fans appreciated his debut because it had a Jay-Z type of sound sonically. Also, it was his debut so he was fresh to our ears. Lupe is definitely preachy and when the production isn't top-notch then he is going to fall short in my eyes but hey...Joey Badass is still in my cd deck lol
i wasnt the person who used the term classic however i still completely understand what the guy who used it meant by classic hiphop, he didnt mean an actual genre, by classic he meant back when it was good if you get what im saying, when it all started.
I personally like LASERS. Ik that isn't his best work but I feel it aint as bad as lots of ppl say. He still had good songs such as All black everything, Never forget you, and Till I get there. I feel this is the same lupe but this time he was specifically having the american history as the theme. Aside from the love songs i think the reason ppl don't like F&L2 is because they dont remember the theme for The cool was MYH and F&L1 was basically him showcasing his different skill such as
Looking back, Lasers is way better than many fans felt it was at the time. It was released too early imo and technically the studio forced him to finish and release it before F&L2 even though F&L2 was already done at the time.
I really like beezy430's shirt clean fitted aint nothing wrong with looking crisp, ya dig?
Great review guys. I really agree about the mid-section. Those 4 tracks could've been cut down to 1 or 2.
Right. Somebody that fits him and is nice on the boards.
We will be there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't say this is an amazing or bad album, it just was forgettable and didn't have the essence of Food and Liquor or The Cool
Lupi is the man for real , he got codes
nah, you're not alone on that. I didn't like this album as much as I thought but the experimental sound on that mixtape made him more versatile to me. One thing about Lupe, though, I don't think he takes critiques well.
We're not the only ones critical of the production. And the bulk of us said the album was good.
When are we getting part 2 of the review?
See what I did there...
Myke C-Town should put a record together and A&R it. Seriously I'd like to hear what that record sounds like. It'd be nice for all of you guys to do. I'd love to see you all put together a Dead End Hip Hop compilation. That is something I'd be interested in.
Great review. I loved all the songs individually (except for that awful heart doner, how dare you and battle scars.. i thought brave heart was sick though idk why they puttin that in with the other ones) but they right as an album it is too similar in production. It needed more upbeat tracks.
I agree with C-Town about the whole mid-tempo production thing. Lupe definitely could've shown a bit more variety with this album, but kinda failed to do so. I still love this album though.
But seeing as they were also touching on the topic of Lasers, I think Lasers was extremely far from what it was originally intended to be. When you hear "Shining Down" and "I'm Beamin", as well as other leaks from before its release, I think its clear that Lupe had a different direction intended for Lasers.
I haven't listened to it. LASERS just put me off Lupe in general, so his new album is at the bottom of my queue. I'll get around to it..some time.
Anyway, I hope ya'll review the new Freddie Gibbs mixtape. It's been on repeat.
I know what it stands for. He said it during an interview that food and liquor 2 is just a title a way to draw people in to his album...but for proof here is what he said verbatum "...there is no meaning behind it, it's just a marketing ploy. now i feel bad cause people keep asking me about it"....
that background music is addictive, im humming that instrumental while looking at this video, lol.
Y'all leave my boy, B, alone! We're not doing the new Death Grips album and it's got nothing to do with him. I wasn't going to do it regardless because I saw no point in a repetitive review. If nothing else, I'll throw something up on the site with my thoughts on the album. I'll send something out via Twitter and the DEHH Facebook when it's done so make sure you're following us in at least one of those places.
yes please do i fully support this idea, this would be much better than reviewing albums you guys KNOW you would not like.
I think the reason why so many people were disappointed with this album because they were expecting too much, people did the same shit with Nas back then, they loved his first 2 albums and were disappointed with his 3rd and 4th even though they really weren't bad albums, just not on the level of the first 2, this is why I compare Nas and Lupe so much because their careers are very similar.
Even Nas sees Lupe as the new Nas.
You're right. I don't like no music...which means I like music. Kind of an obvious observation, but OK.
Lupe Fiasco needs to have N.E.R.D. due the production of his LPs
Myke does go last on most occasions. How many videos have you watched?
he needs to stick with soundtrakk's production
B posed a nice question at the beginning there.
Kudos to B, Myke and Natasha (that was her name, right?) on this review.
ok, fair enough. thanks for letting us know.
Beezy hit the nail on the head early on. If Lupe came out with this after The Cool it would be labelled as a sellout album.
Damn we didn't get to hear Modest Media's small take on the album since he's a big Lupe fan :( btw Skyzoo's A Dream Deferred album and Murs and Fashawn's This Generation project! Review that!
Wow. Thank you. That seriously means a lot. Peace to you, too.
anybody remember what that song was called that lupe leaked from food and liquor II "part 2", it was like around the year it came out, i wanna say it was on thanksgiving or maybe christmas/christmas eve. ANYONE????
itachiovermadara American Terrorist Pt. 2?
I think they're right about how Lupe should work with one producer. Just like how MF Doom works with one producer usually. Like Madvillain, DangerMouse, JJ Doom albums. Lupe needs someone who he can just grow with.
I like the cool and lyrically and production wise it was much more focused. Every song is in one accord with the rest of the songs but I think F&L has some more accessible production which is sonically more easy on the ear. I like em both but i prefered F&L's production
