The sordid past of the aflac duck before he got his act together.
They were trying to feed a shot of liquor to it in the background early in the video
That’s is so f.....g funny I’m still laughing what am I laughing about? Cameron Ragsdale comment about the infamous Aflac duck
Lol
The aflec duck was dropping acid, going on lot, screaming " 1 for 3, 2 for 7!" Thats what led him to his career in insurance.
😄
I think we can all agree, this is one of the music videos of all time.
It certainly is a music video made at the time
Undoubtedly a video that contains music.
I fuckin agree!!!!
We can but should we? Or space your face
Bobby is dressed like Crockett from Miami Vice.....🤣 Priceless!
I think Crockett dressed like Bobby
I am 61 years old, been a fan since the early 80's and this is the first time I've seen this video.
It's so 80's and yet so Dead....
BE GRATEFUL FOR THE DEAD!
Ive been a fan since the '80s as well, and just discovered there was a video for this song today. What a long strange trip it's been.
Once the Jerry tap is opened, for all intensive purposes, you're screwed 🤣
Miami Bob Weir
I'm right there with you. I found out about this video through Wikipedia.
best song they ever did, imo
How in the sweet hell have I never seen this?
Yessir, same as I
Ditto Bro!
Agreed!
Me too and I think luck is the right answer...
Exactly
I just read Bill's book and he said when they were driving in the Cadillac the duck was really drinking the champagne and it got drunk. Then they had to deal with a drunk duck. I like the Dead, but I'm not a Deadhead and I've been to a few shows in the late 80's and I don't know why Weir's song's don't get the respect that some of the others do. I've always really liked Bobby and think he sings good. I've always loved Sugar Magnolia.
Let it grow and Cassidy are GEMS Bobby rules
It may be cheesy but they all look like they had a hell of a time making it
At least they enjoyed the ride 😉
Right on !!!
Every Deadhead can relate to this song.
Bobby looks like on coke
When I was a kid, my dad would buy me any album I wanted as long as I would listen to one he got for himself and then he would listen to mine with me. I loved the dead, him not so much but did not insult my taste. I went to their concerts with friends and loved the laid back scene. Years later as my dad is elderly and not as well, I moved him in my home and we would listen to music or have a video of a concert. I did not get out the dead concert films until one day, not thinking, I put one in and my dad was just loving it. Hell in a Bucket was his fave tune. Listening today I felt like he was here with me. Been a fan since their first album came out in 1967 and yes that makes me 65 lol
What a great Dad!
When your music label forces you to put out music videos and you're the Dead, this is what happens.
You're an idiot. This was Bob Weir telling Joni Mitchell to fuck off.
@@zackpennachi They were an item for a short time. Joni is mental, so it ended.
scott merrow In Brenden’s defense, it’s pretty damn cheesy and I think he’s eluding to the thankful fact that their niche wasn’t music videos or pop albums. But hell (in a bucket), I don’t know :) IMO, it’s the Dead and they earned the right to do whatever the F they wanted to do. Miss Jerry!
@@thenextgreat8652 Nobody forced Jerry to do anything.
@@scottmerrow7617 Look man, he was wrong, but that was an awfully rude way to let him know...
This is literally the greatest thing I've ever seen.
+dkroll92 the only thing it lacks is some Jerry
...times infinity
@@danielg.s.8811 "the only thing it lacks is some Jerry"...Jerry is ripping up the guitar leads here...
I feel like Jerry is the duck/the dominatrix
Bring on the gate crashing and venue bans.
Bob, Jerry and the boys never fail to put a huge smile on my face.
They just never had a single *uck to give and that's why they're great and the absolute best!
YEP !
Best comment!
This is so freaking stupid. Its the best thing ive ever seen in my life
try doing it like the deadheads, stoned.
Bro I’m a ten year old dead head
You analyze me, attempt to despise me, and laugh when I stumble and fall. There may come a day I will dance on your grave. If unable to dance, I will crawl across it. Unable to dance I'll crawl. YEAH! Unable to dance, I'll crawl!
I always hear the last one as,
"In able to dance, I'll crawl."
It's more anthemic than declarative that way.
@@ezekielbrockmann114 Yeah, but it makes little sense and you're hearing it wrong that way, I believe! lol
Duck stole the show
+Billy Kubina Jr GOOSE!!!!
Thought it was a quail.
AFLAC!
And then it was eaten by the tiger! #TrueStory
@@theman6160, definitely a duck, geese are much larger.
Have you never seen a white duck before
"There may come a day I will dance on your grave unable to dance I will crawl" LMAO...LONG LIVE THE DEAD!!!! Soooooo glad I got to experience that rare, special scene. ✌😎
I love this video. Absolutely hilarious ! Jerry chilling at the bar, Brent at the piano, Phil the center of female attention, and Bob is a kind of guide through this crazy tour. Catherine the Great, but without a horse. Guess a duck will have to do.
Adrienne Kraft Don’t forget the Rhythm Devils as what else? A couple of devils!
Don't forget Bill and Mickey as devils giving Bobby the ride haha
Is that John Perry Barlow at the end?
Kinda makes you feel like everyone should hve a pet duck.
They make good pets get at least 2
That's a goose, and they make great pets. They can live up to 30 years. My mother's aunt and uncle, who had a small farm, had one for like forever, it was allowed in the house, except for the kitchen, and their bedroom.
or goat ... or big cat ... or a pig ... or a boa constricter ... or ....
🦆 it!
I thought everyone did
I seriously don’t understand how this doesn’t have 25 million hits and more.
Cause it’s an embarrassment to the Dead, that’s why.
@@jondavid3641 I thought so too at first but it really grew on me. The video is cheesy but the song is great
It's definitely not an embarrassment. All about having fun!
Yes, one of my least favorite dead tunes and I love the dead. Hell is no joke.
"Willy's drivin' his chopper, up and down your carpeted halls...." After 30 years, it just now clicks with me that that may be a sexual reference.
it's "Cause when he's chargin' his chopper"
OK. May still be a sexual reference.
'Cause when he's drivin' his chopper up and down your carpeted halls, you will think me, by contrast, quite proper.
D'oh.
Well, you're still ahead of me -- I didn't get it til I read your comment.
[hangs head in shame]
The bartender is Willy Legate
LOL Jerry looks like a biker in this video, and Bob seems to be channeling Paul McCartney with his cheesiness
Jerry was the embodiment of cooler than cool in this video right here.
😎😎😎😎😎
But like Macca, it’s really good cheese.
They must have had a blast making this video. That vision of Bill Kreutzman in the devil's outfit is just great.
Bill makes a great Devil :)
I wanna go to the bar that Bob and Jerry hang, beats the hell out of one I'm drinking at now...🎸👁🎸
The epitome of 80's videos. And I love it.
I remember when I found this album I was fourteen. I used to blast it so loud my mom would pound Ion the floor to get me to turn it down, lol. This album is underappreciated. Love it. Jerry and fam are so needed today. Thanks . :)
Underappreciated? That was their most successful album
I can't believe anybody liked this album. This was nothing like what they were really about. In The Dark, Go To Heaven, Built To Last, and even Blues For Allah were all made after their creative and innovative period were long gone and over. I don't know how old you are but from 67' to maybe 75' was the good stuff. I think these albums were just a result of them having to fulfill contracts they signed with the record companies. I've never known anybody that liked this album, but this song was played a lot live and live it wasn't half bad, but The Dead & a music video is just a ridiculous idea. A complete oxymoron to the kind of band they were.
@@carlo_cali I agree with most of what you said. But my expectations for this album was low. At that point of their career? It was alright. Certainly not like their prime. 'Go to Heaven' wasn't great either. As for their videos? Sit down and laugh at them...they are foolish.
@@robertmorley4506 I didn't even know this existed. None of this is the era I liked in the late 80's. I was in mid 60's to mid 70's phase. I don't find this even funny, it's just a head scratcher.
@@carlo_cali how old are you? Toe it's the corporate fun of the eighties. Bit if you know the facts about the dead, they started as a CIA funded an resources indoctrination program. Many song writers are cia. Robert Hunter. Perhaps you need dog some more. I get it though. I just like the fun of it all.
I love how it starts with the coolest looking Jerry Garcia ever and then the camera is like nope, were following the dork in the purple blazer next to him
😂😂😂😂
Love it. Never seen it before. Love how the duck went for the champagne.
LMAO at that, he must have been thirsty.
How...literally HOW is this not to at least at a couple million views
Arguably one of their best works
It's pretty good. Never one of their best though, come on.
I thank God for the day in 1990 when my sister, with her packed VW bus, invited me to go see the Grateful Dead in Vermont.
I went.
To experience the Grateful Dead, it was not a concert, more like an "event"....
Everyone was in a good mood, no negativity. The parking lot was a farmers field, and it was one big party..we ended up meeting up with 2 other groups of friends she knew. We camped out of her bus and it was one of the best experiences I had.
The fact Jerry only had a few years left, I'm so glad I went.
It was one of those invites you know if you don't go,you regret it....
I ended up getting fired from my crappy job, but it was worth it...
That's an awesome story! I'd tell you mine but probably shouldn't! LOL!
Getting fired from a crappy job-
Like watching your mother in law drive off a cliff in your brand new Cadillac.
Found this on accident, and I’m glad I did.
That is so awesome.....love Mickey and Bill driving the car, of course has to be the devil drummers
!!!!!
A '59 Cadillac. My folks had one like that
They are the Rhythm Devils after all
I've gotten much older now but still LOVE the Dead!!! Hell yeah!!!!
I love them the older I get
Well most OG Deadheads are pretty old by now haha, but keep rocking no matter how old.
We might be going to hell in a bucket, but at least we'll enjoy the ride
Guilty of 56 dead shows, every single song, every single video, sums up my life!!! I'm 60 now, seen and done more than most, and enjoyed every minute!!!
Guilty of not making it out of the parking lot and into the show more than once 🤣🍄
One of the greatest opening lines ever
This is one of my favorite Dead songs. Isn't really one of there classic jam songs but is very catchy for me. I was in Grand Cayman Islands several years ago and going on a shuttle trip to Hell, which is a very interesting rock formation there. The tour guide said that we were going to hell in a bucket and I thought of this song.
Did you at least enjoy the ride?
@@brandoneger9065 lmfao
It's one of my favorites, too. Cool story!
Was never a Deadhead, never saw them live, but I always loved them. And this is really one of the best songs I've ever heard. They were truly excellent in every way.
I cannot believe I haven't seen this.. Bill and Mickey as real rhythm devils!! Genius.
I love that RUclips suggests this to me when I come home at sunrise. Also , let's be honest, if you call a taxi and Devil Billy and Devil Mickey show up in a convertible... TAKE THAT RIDE!
For 30 some odd years I thought he was singing,, “a taste of your elegant pie.” I only learned the real lyric to play in my band at the time.Funny that It made me think of Booger in that silly movie, “We’ve got bush. wE have bush!” First time seeing the video I had to do s double lookt to make sure the Dominatrix was not Kelly LeBrock. She was hubba hubba and a bag of chips when I was a teenager. “ do you boys want to take a ddhoeerThey wore swimsuits in the shower?”I probably would have too back then. Bwahahahaha!II’m cracking up here.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣✌️,❤️&🎸s.
Gotta love Bob Weir. The dude has a “grate” way to make a great song. This band has ALWAYS OOZED TALENT from day ONE. They are nothing short of amazing 😉.
I love the look on his face, like he’s laughing at the world.
I love this video. I haven't seen it in 30 years .
I'm reading Kreutzmann's book" Deal"and as I go along he makes a lotta suggestions for RUclips videos that go with his stories. Otherwise, I doubt I would have looked this up. I'm glad I did. It put a smile on my face. Sure, it's absurd and a downright bad video, yet it makes me strangely happy.
I am too. I gotta love the duck. Hey at least the weren't smoking quack
+tgproductions97 That's a goose, NOT a duck.
be that as it may, the biography says it's a duck
"DEAD" heads
+Bobby Parks If it makes you happy, is it really that bad?
"if i'm unable to dance, i'll crawl"
Miss those years
My son and this song sold me on them. I introduced him to the Beatles and he gave me the Dead great taste in music
Who wears short shorts Bob weirs short shorts
Weir wore shorts in the 90s nice ones.... I stole the idea and I'm going to make money from that look sooo yah he's a genius
It was Bob's fugk you to the aluminati for forcing artists to show and were the skull!!!
Gotta hit those high notes
I am full blooded hetero but I will give him credit, he wears them well. Like no other.
Let me guess... you've seen "Jersey Boys".
Bobby should've gotten into acting. 😆 I love how Jerry obviously wanted very little to do with the video.
This was not Jerry’s song!
@@joefilter2923 yeah I know.
Funny you should so, about Bobby, well there is this dude on a old T.V. show called Taxi. It does include a character I believe called, well I can't remember just now, but he kinda was the spitting image of Bob Weir, kinda weird a couple times when I went in tour in ,90 and ,91, completely forgot that until today, and I'm still not 100% sure it wasn't him. Please reassure me if you can.
Was the character Jim?
@@Sassifrassilassi His character was, get ready, Bobby Wheeler, I don't recall his stage name, it wasn't Bob Weir though, I checked that much, but left that question out of my mouth around deadheads. His character always wanted, to become an actor, instead of a cabby. You're the best 4 getting back to me on this, so now I'm back to sincerely suspecting it was actually him, but dunno. I really love Jerry, doin that too. You know in tour in 91 in Kansas Jerry completely out of nowhere ended the show with Cosmic Charlie, you should listen, bye from Alligator. Bob Weir/ Bobby Wheeler, They look nearly identical, neck up, for sure. Both had long, semi long hair and only doubt I have is Weir seems skinnier.
oh my that goose is so cute so is the goat and the pig too lol :) and the tiger and the snakes lol
That is one grateful goose there 👍💜 And Jerry's guitar picking always humbles me and makes me smile :)
The Rhythm Devils, navigating and driving always brings a smile
Very cool song with that extra special Dead Vibe. These guys always gave you your money’s worth and then some. They were the 60’s.
One of the wierdest funniest videos of all time at least I we are enjoying the riiideeee 🤣🤣🤣🌹🌹🌹🌹✨✨✨
I know some people hate this video,I think it's great it shows they have a sense of humor . Gotta love Bobs Miami vice sport jacket ahh the 80's.
is it just me or does bobby say, "for a taste of your elegant pie"?
The woman was a excellent cook . Bobby loves homemade apple pie. Let's leave it at that
Some think its pride some think its pie lol
First verse is
‘Taste lf your elegent pride’
2nd and following is pie 😂
Might mean pie just said pride on accident
It's both,like I buried Paul and cranberry sauce@@Rando66666
Wow…MTV era for them 😃 I know that wasn’t their scene but this works great! What a lot of fun, I’m so glad this happened to them, they got a taste of that side of the business and we got this! ☺️
I love how Jerry pretty clear must have said "Look, Bob, you make whatever video you want. But about all you'll cajole me to do is play guitar in a bar and that's it. The other guys can dress up if they'd like to"
One of my favorite Dead tunes, and one of the sweetest videos ever!
Greatest Video Ever Made
The costume and scenery somehow make Phil seem right at home lol
InfamousMedia uncle chill and brent definitely fit the look
They are perhaps the koolest band ever. Legends🍄🍄🍄
This was my whole life in the 80s. Going to hell in a bucket! And yes I enjoyed the ride!
I don't know how I ever saw this till now...but I love it. I think it's meant to be a tongue in cheek parody of 1980s' excess videos. Bobby in the Miami Vice suit is a trip. About halfway through I was wondering where Phil was but when he showed up it was perfect. Phil had such an expressive face, that frozen smile he has on is hilarious for some reason; the whole video is. Even Brent, who often struck me as surly as all getup, seems to be having a great time here. Awesome video.
There’s a bunch of graves I’d like to crawl over!
I had no idea there was a music vid for this song! It kicks ass!
Damn Bobby, Miami Vice and Richard Simmons called, want their wardrobe back.
superdragUSA1 I was trying to think of what to say about that but you nailed it 😂
This is 1 of my favorite Dead songs, until I hear 100 others!
Epic! The Duck is everything!!!❤️
fell in love with this song (and many more) at my 1st dead show @ shoreline in Mnt. View, CA... thank u allen G.
My introduction to the Grateful Dead was seeing this video & Touch of Grey when they both came out when I was 11 years old. Been a fan ever since.
New George's in San Rafael. Bobby in a lavender suit! WOO-HOO. Phil in a top hat, in a fancy red suit. And the goose! Awesome.
At least I'm enjoying the ride, yeah!
A lot of Dead heads didn't really dig this album, but it was a new era, 80s, Last show I saw of the GD with Jerry....still an awesome track
Thanks for posting!!!!
This is the most Greatful Dead thing the Greatful Dead could do. Besides who cares about a video with a great song like this.
I love the Grateful Dead, and they always had a very silly streak. This video rules hard. 1970s mentality with 80s shtick!
This sounds much more mature and modern than the 70s sound in my opinion. The 70s sound was too country sounding. This 80s sound goes more towards pure modern rock and alternative rock
Aflac!
It was the Aflac duck in his early days, last year of college.
Thanks for helping us ride out the quarantine with great tunes! Atleast I’m enjoying the ride!
Love this song and video
Me too
Dank nugs. Drinkin whiskey from some lady boot!!! 😂
No better time to revisit this video than now. It displays how we are surrounded by uncertainty in a fallen world, backed by folks with the mentality of a newborn....... How will we survive????
My favorite track off this record. This is where they got the big Rolling Stone/MTV push. I think of long-gone places and departed friends.
An absolute FAVORITE!!!
Bob's a natural for this type of video!
This song fits in the least with all of the other relatively well known Grateful Dead songs, and its one of the best
Nothing beat a dead show........They were so much fun.
I, too, just saw this for the first time. I love hell in a bucket. Kind of what I pictured.
A pure masterpiece
that is some great acting by bob, and sweet bar scenes with jerry, and the wicked red car ride with the rhythm devils. Thanks for the upload @gratefuldead channel and again that black background really fulfills the concept of enjoyment!
Great acting? You're shitting me right?
I don't want to live in a world where this video only has a quarter million views. Granted, this is not their proudest moment but show me a "cool" music video and I'll show you a J-lo fan.
Very timely. I've already tuned up, rotated the handle and rinsed out my bucket.... HAVE YOU?
I love the deads music videos from the 80s. In the dark is one of my favorite albums ever.
At least I'm enjoying the ride!
This is better than any movie I saw in the 80s
But what 80’s movie did they rip this from?
I have a feeling that bit where the duck suddenly goes for the champagne glass was an outtake, and they decided to use it anyway. The way Bob Weir reacts and quickly jerks his head out of the way sure *looks* like he wasn't expecting it, at least! (And how would you train a duck to do that on cue, anyway?)
I remember seeing this for the first time when it came out. Best music video ever
I never pretended to think that I knew nearly as much about the #1 sound in my head, not at all. And this is a mightyfine example. Never have this ever I saw before, not at all! If I ever was asked what a Dead video would look like, it would have to be like this... Far freakin' out! And lo, they STILL keep following me!! Thusly!
I never knew that Chevy Chase was in the dead!!
Wow never seen this video before it's excellent I'm a big greatful dead fan R.I.P. JERRY & BRET. 🙏🇺🇸🙏🎸🎼🎼🎹🎹🎹🎹❤
One of the best songs I ever heard and the video is great.
