Many years after the song came out, it came on the radio when I was sleeping and she remembered it. She woke me up and it was the last time we ever sang this song together. Good old Punkin.

Years ago I had the pleasure of listening to Warren Zevon as he performed in downtown St Petersburg, Fl. I stood only a few feet away from his piano as he performed. I was blown away by the way he captured all of us crowded around him listening. No backup band , just Warren , always a cigarette and always a drink in his hand but we hung on to every note. I only saw you one time but now I have your records to remember you by. Thank you . You were a wonderful artist .
This Halloween 2024, I am going to drive through the streets of Utah WITH THIS GREAT SONG....PLAYING LOUDLY AND HOWLING. I hope the Mormons don't mind.......A UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Such a heartfelt song by the late, great and much under estimated and under appreciated Warren Zevon. "Keep me in your heart" is the last track on Warren's last album "The Wind" and it was also the last song he recorded. He knew he was dying when he recorded this song and died two weeks after it's release. You can't get more poignant than that. RIP Warren Zevon 1947-2003.
In 1980 I took a weekend tour to London. I found a place called The New Lee Ho Fook's, but it was in Bayswater on Queensway. They did not have beef chow mein on the menu.
I just love that so many of the comments here are about Zevon's clever lyrics, along with how he delivers them. So many comments reference "his hair was perfect," and even that spontaneous "nip" right afterwards. My favorite part, too. Zevon's vocal performance on this song is perfect. It goes to show that you don't need to be gifted with a stunning vocal range and pitch to be a great performer. He's having so much fun performing a song he wrote for fun, and being his charismatic self, and that's the real magic. He's competely at one with what he's doing.
Love the fact he gives props to some of the horror gods of the film industry like Lon Chaney and son. But the most signifigant aspect is the riff...damn he nailed it on this one!
Are you aware that there are tailors in London called "Wolff Bros"? They had a slogan "wear Wolffs of London" - every situation in this song is one where a suit would be worn - restaurant, funeral, queen etc

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's lame ass response to Steve Miller, spoken like true posers... The Hall of Fame didn’t respond directly to Miller’s numerous criticisms but did issue a statement that said: “Rock ’n’ roll can ignite many opinions. It’s what makes it so great. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was honoured to induct Steve Miller.” On his tour bus recently, Miller was in an affable mood and said he hopes some positives will come out of all the commotion he stirred up. “I want to put pressure on them to do the right thing and make it a great institution,” the guitarist said. The people who run the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation “are living in a bubble in New York City. Step outside of it, and the Rock Hall of Fame is a beacon for music education,” Miller said. “There are people working there who do care about it, and realize it should be the centre of the universe when it comes to fighting for musicians’ rights, music education, musicians’ health care. “But right now, it’s a private little group in New York calling all the shots, guys who consider themselves the elite, experts of what is or is not important. They’re more worried about making a TV show [of the induction ceremony] than they are of taking care of the people they induct.”

He fessed up to his illness on his last Letterman appearance, and Dave gave him time to do THREE songs that night. That NEVER happens. Dave really admired Warren.
This came out during my first year of teaching, and one Monday morning, one of my new coworkers said, "I heard the weirdest song on the radio this weekend. Some guy singing 'Ow-ooo, Werewolves of London'-or something like that.". I thought she must have had quite a Saturday night, but a week later, the tune absolutely blew up.
What I love about this song is that he could have special effects to sing "Ahhhh OOOO Were of London" and they definitely had the sound effects back then. But he decided to make it natural. Which make this song a CLASSIC.
"Little Old Lady Got Mutilated Late Last Night" is, perhaps, the best poetic lyric line ever written; perfect onomatopoeia [or is it alliteration? Thanks repliers...]. This song features prominently in "The Color of Money", the way-too-late sequel to "The Hustler". A perfect scene made so by the music. Thanks, Mr. Zevon!

Prolly why it got uhh "sampled"?!
Glad to see too many music lovers of all ages appreciate this fine artist. Timeless song.

The perfect Halloween song !
one of the coolest lines in pop music. "He'll rip your lungs out Jim, but i'd like to meet his tailor.
Also "his hair was perfect" . A very cool song.
A fine tribute!
When I was younger I didn't get the coolness of this song, but every day that passes it gets cooler and cooler.

There really was a restaurant in Soho called Lee Ho Fook’s and they had the lyrics on a poster outside. Such a tune.
Took him like two years to come up with that line
It was in England
In 1980 I took a weekend tour to London. I found a place called The New Lee Ho Fook's, but it was in Bayswater on Queensway. They did not have beef chow mein on the menu.
SoHo is also a location in London my guy
Was thinking of paying a visit personally and later found out they were permanently closed in 2016 ish...
The keyboard in this moves me the way some of Pete Seeger's stuff does.
One of the greatest rock tunes of all time.
I played this for a girl n she said she liked kid rock..........goodbye

Are you aware that there are tailors in London called "Wolff Bros"? They had a slogan "wear Wolffs of London" - every situation in this song is one where a suit would be worn - restaurant, funeral, queen etc

I rabbit holed into this man's career tonight. I am impressed. This guy is amazing. He's deeply hilarious and insightful. I kinda feel robbed that I didn't know how dope this guy is until I was 36 years old. Nobody told me about this
Just be glad you found him. I was lucky to know his music in high school, but as they say - better late than never.
If you think he is amazing, try researching about Jesus! Call upon HIS name and He will save you before it’s too late.
@@rustybridges4302 Jesus was a dork. I'd rather follow the word of Zevon than Christ any day. I don't see the connection in fact. It seems you're just here to shamelessly promote your goofy corrupt religion
In 40+ years of consuming Chinese food on a fairly regular basis, I have never actually had any chow mein. Until now. Just last night, Warren inspired me to get a big dish of beef chow mein. Nothing to write home about, but I can check it off the list now. Aahhh-ooooo!❤

Lorna Cook. I totally agree with you. It's really nice to know that you met him and told him what a great songwriter he was. A totally addictive base-line rhythm accompanied by some killer vocals! Great, great song!
I've always liked the way it's basically just a single piano riff the whole way through, but it never gets boring. It's like "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads, it's a groove.
Drums and bass provided by the best rhythm section: Mick Fleetwood and John McVie

They had bad moon rising but not this such blasphemy
The only thing worse than that, was the fucking ripoff by kidschlock
Thought the same thing. Would have been way better than the anaemic CCR “Bad moon rising”
John Landis wanted only songs with 'moon' in the title: Blue Moon, Moondance, Bad Moon Rising, etc. Also, good directors try to avoid doing the obvious thing.
Loved that film and saw it three times
It’s a crime that he is not In the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Are you for real????? I can't believe this.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was honoured to induct Steve Miller.”
On his tour bus recently, Miller was in an affable mood and said he hopes some positives will come out of all the commotion he stirred up.
That's a damn shame

And His Hair Is Perfect 😎
His awoooo is my favourite part
"Little Old Lady Got Mutilated Late Last Night" is, perhaps, the best poetic lyric line ever written; perfect onomatopoeia [or is it alliteration? Thanks repliers...]. This song features prominently in "The Color of Money", the way-too-late sequel to "The Hustler". A perfect scene made so by the music. Thanks, Mr. Zevon!
Agreed 100%
Every line in that song is a gem.
And Tom Cruise was pantomiming the Line ‘his hair was perfect’ while sporting some odd sort of half-mullet as I remember. Ironic that was Cruise’s least perfect movie hair
That's not onomatopoeia though.
@@deathshead357 correct: it's alliteration. onomatopoeia is when the word sounds the same as the sound it's spelling.
