When do we get to see it raised on Johnson Rods with 34" tires?
Ya MASERATI makes jeep so all but the wranglers ride just as nice now.
Not to mention just as many features for half the cost because a Cherokee Trailhawk is $32,000 BRAND NEW.
$350 a month lease for a CHEROKEE TRAILHAWK. $300 lift kit and it will be a great crawler that you can beat up and then return.
That’s a cool truck and u can buy your own after market wheels and tires that’s a lot truck for 50K
Enjoy. Totally agree with you on the Discovery statement. Think this is the Disco 4 refresh. Disco 5 too posh and expensive, up in Range Rover territory, new defender too expensive as a 'defender', which was originally designed to be the cheap everyman's offroader back in the day. Hopefully a new cheap LR based on the defender being discussed for 2021 launch will be the true defender replacement
Can't wait to see a test with all 6 men in there...... Kent riding middle!😭
You wrong for that 😭🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
He should!!! 😂😂😂
Kent Clark? Yes, always take him with you! You never know when he'll be needed when off-roading! 😂
His belly touching his knees. I cant breath. 🤣
Can’t wait to see y’all drive this on some trails! The Defender is a cool looking vehicle
2:28 "Lets Floor it" ...I hope this New Engine doesnt require a break-in period of 500-600 miles of no hard acceleration .....Watchout for "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" on next episode
it did in fact
@@muhamedshebeeb8626 Flashing "Check Engine" light at no extra cost!!!!!!!
Well you were right.
Theoretically you don't have to run in a modern automobile engine as they are run-in at the factory
In practice that is bullshit... Keep the revs down and change up gears as quickly as possible for the first 1000 miles, particularly on older tech engine block models with mechancal or semi mechanical transmissions... change out all powertrain lubrication and coolants at 1000 miles and you are golden
@@TheComputec you are from land rover aren't you?
This is why you guys stand out from the crowd. I absolutely love the long term vehicles. Great work guys.
I would love to see a head to head vs a TRD Off-Road 4Runner. 56k is a boat load of money when you compare it to Jeep or Toyota.
Agree. For 55k, you can get a loaded 4Runner Pro, or a very nicely specced Wrangler Rubicon.
Wasn't head-to-head, but one of the videos they did over the summer where they compared the original Defender to the new Defender, they had a 4Runner following along, that did everything that the other two vehicles did.
I think for an overland style build, even though it's an ancient design a 4Runner TRD off road base is probably a great starting point. Or, if you plan on doing a lot of technical off-roading, the Wrangler Rubicon.
Ya MASERATI makes jeep so all but the wranglers ride just as nice now.
Not to mention just as many features for half the cost because a Cherokee Trailhawk is $32,000 BRAND NEW
Or you can get f250 tremor 7.3 or Power Wagon.
@@chadhanson4369 I have a '19 KL TH- Love it! :)
It is your not getting the realibilty of the ones you mentioned. Just remember Average labor rate for Land Rover dealership service department is around $180 per hr.
Awesome! I just jumped over here from your purchased video. Cannot wait to see you out on the trails with this rig! Want to see you use every off road function it has. :). Congrats.
I love how excited you guys are. Congrats on the new whip!
I'm glad Roman and yourself do these reviews together"!!! You guys are magical and sincere working and having fun together ❤️!! At the same time you guys are really focused on us viewers and we love you guys for it!!! THANK YOU for letting us see it first with you guys!! God bless you!!
Great video. Can’t wait to see it on the trails. Also u guys make a great tag team!!
Even one of the managers at a Land Rover dealer drives a Jeep. 🤣
He's used to unreliable vehicles :P
It’s ok to enjoy both. They are very different and both worth celebrating.
The other of the last of the original rear bumper mount spare tire vehicles.
Old defender is iconic though.
@@jonpetter8921 new one could be too if they did some changes.
It's gonna be exciting to see the three trucks and this one on the trails, doing crazy stuff. Lets see what happens!
Congratulations!!!
I think you've made a wise and reasonable choice. After all, we've come to enjoy real off-road and you have all the necessary accessories for that! And it's still so expensive so the fully loaded one can wait for a bit later...
I'm super happy for you!!!
Have fun with it and of course let as see that...!
Hey guys, great video, I have LR 3 SE spec but manual seats too, I prefer it as the only time I have moved a seat is when I need the back seats all the way flat, you have done exactly what I would do if buying new Landrover. Well done
Happy you guys made a vid on the entry level instead and ketp it real. Get what you need and skip what you do not. Great vid. Wish more youtubers could opt for the "realistic feedback/options" thank you
Cool to see a base LR - nice choice!
All of the greatest 4x4s I've owned have been 4 cylinder equipped. Jeep M38a1, I.H. Scout2, Land Rover Series 2a, then a Series 3, Toyota Tacoma, Jeep CJ5, Suzuki Samurai, and a Defender 90 200TDI. There is just something about the balance, the gear reduction, and the ability to not be overly concerned about running out of fuel with a six cylinder or a V8. I do enjoy my LR3 as well, but it slugs down so much fuel!
Good choice on this Defender. Looking forward to in depth reviews.
1 day later: Park Manager you're back already?
Team TFL, I approve of those white steel wheels which are long overdue on a 4X4 in our market. Having said that, they would look so much better on a $28,000 2 door #Prado manual :-)
Prado 👌
@@chrstopherpillay6046 2 door Prado for poor people ;-)
Yeah North America doesn't get those.
Tho you can't beat them on the rough stuff
They get the lexus gx withouy the diff lock in the rear
Oh my got that African safari vibes with that white on white.
Africans use Toyota 😜
Cant wait for u to race it on the Farm .. and drive up the mountains ... 😍
This is exactly what I want. Base D110 P300, white, steelies. Rear view camera is a must. Analog gauges are a must. Locking diffs is a must. I'd prioritize the sound system over the jump seat since this will be my new daily driver (so I can focus my JK as an off-road platform, not a daily driver) so I want the sound system. I also like the exterior black-out package and the fender guards. No jump seat, no third row. I preferred the black headliner. My preferred build was right about the same price as yours.
Congratulations…. I love it!!! I can't wait to see you build it up like you did with the Gladiator.
Looking good! I look forward to your comparisons of this versus other off-roaders. Especially the 2020 JGC Trailhawk which I shall take delivery of when I get back in the States in November ( I am in Europe/Greece right now). I already know the differences in the whatamagiggies (?!) they each have, and, in my opinion the Trailhawk comes out ahead, especially when you take into consideration the (huge) price difference. It is the off-roading capabilities of each, and when compared to each other, that I want to see!
Again, Good luck with it.
I'm really happy someone is reviewing the basic model of the Defender. I'd like to get one, but a basic car feels more authentic to was Defender is/was. Thanks
The name "Land Rover" will always be magic to my ears! I'll be interested to see what you think of your new Defender when you take it to Moab. Thanks for this nice video!
I want to see Roman, Nathan, and Mr. Truck ride in the front seats too and from Moab.
You sir are a mean, mean man.
Thank you for keeping it real.
Clearly, this is Roman's baby. Look at that smile on his face, and hear the enthusiasm in his voice. No grumpie Roman today (weeeell...maybe just a little with the brakes comment)!
Well they already have engine problems after only 300 miles.
I am so excited to see this series, I want one. Please put the largest tire you can on it. Thanks.
Nice. Can’t wait to pick up one of these in 3 years as a CPO. Some Fuel rims with Toyo off road tires would look great.
I specced mine similarly but I upgraded to the Defender S model. I felt I got a bit more bang for my buck at that upgrade, with partial leather seats (heated in the front) which I chose the Khaki green color interior, and the digital analogue. So far so good. Got mine in August, ordered in May.
Has it been reliable? Is yours the 4 cylinder?
I am curious to see how it compares to a grand cherokee trail hawk. Both independent suspensions with air...and two row suvs.
Defender is three row.
@@zelenizub2036 **Optional 3 row
That’s about the competitor for the Defender. The LC 79 series has no competition and LR have completely abandoned the utility market!
@Robert Blackford the only reason I would trust the land cruiser is because it has an old engine and is simple tech, the second they go all electronical they will start failing aswell
Can you do a review around the jump seat please? Thinking about getting one but haven't seen it in the dealer models yet! Wondering how comfortable that middle seat is, and how comfortable is it to seat three across in the front? Do you miss having the storage space of the console? Thanks :)
I wish it came with power outlet in the back boot, great powering potable fridge. But like base model with steelies n base trim.
Good job guys, can't wait to see all the episodes on this thing from Moab and beyond.
Can’t wait to see the mash ups you guys have planned for this rig . Would love to see it against 4Runner TRD pro , Jeep Rubicon . Awesome choice
I wonder whether you can alter your camera's frame rate to avoid the dash lights flashing all the time? I'm fairly sure that it is possible with most cameras these days.
“I love air-suspension.....especially when it’s new” 😂😂😂😂😂
So bloody true
Congratulations 🌟Roman and Tommy 🏁🏁🏁😃Nice purchase!!
can you do cargo volume compare? based with Wrangler and Land Cruiser as you will need to put boxes/drawers and fridge and kitchen stuff
The 4 cylinder doesn’t seem to even be available in my area. Did they drop ordering it, pending a wide-spread fix?
Always loved the Land Rovers... I have a 93 RR LWB.... in the barn that gets used as bike kayak and fun vehicle... btw...audio on this video was a bit off.... or is it that noisy / wind noise?
Whatever happened to the defender after you guys took it back to the shop to check the engine light?
Questión, is it possible change the wheels for other nicer wheels? and maybe increase a little bit the tires measure, or the ectronic system does not permit that?
I haaaaaate the new Disco. They gave me one when I took my Range Rover in for service. The only positive thing I had to say about it was it rode smoother than my RR, which that basically boils down to wheel and tire set up. What ever it was powered by had no get up at all, then again I'm used to the 500 the RR has.
If you custom order like they did does that mean you have to pay full msrp?
As a lifelong Jeep enthusiast , my 4 sons and I have built a number of Wranglers and owned many different Jeeps. We lived 35 minutes from the Rubicon. I started out with an original Gladiator in the 60's. Interestingly, my assigned vehicle in the Army was a Kaiser M715 Jeep 5/4 ton, straight 6. (gladiator). Being retired for a number of years, I now own a 2006 LR3 HSE. It has all of the locking diffs etc and 142,000 miles. I paid 7,000 for it from a small used Land Rover enthusiast /dealer who found it for me. He went through the vehicle with a fine tooth comb, He rebuilt the air suspension, fixed the heater core, etc. My 7 grandkids love it. they call it the "Jurassic Park Car". We absolutely love the LR3. One of the most capable and comfortable "trucks" I have driven. I think the new Defender looks very similar. I don't drive enough to justify a new Defender these days, but I like the fact you guys chose a box stock 4 banger, + a few extras where it counts, vehicle. We will be following along. Can't wait for the next video! Thanks for a great video!
Those days are gone daddy-O. Unless your kids are IT?
2015-2020 tahoe, yukon in base model ls.. has option 3 seats front same as this car .. so it’s literally a 9 seaters ,. Kind a hard to find and I think it’s great ... not sure about 2021 models tho
You guys bought a U.N. peace keeping vehicle 👍
How does that 4cyl pull at altitude? Any issues?
Great initial review, gentlemen. You have bought well, and hopefully the vehicle holds up for you. This was just a few thousand dollars more than I paid last year for my wife’s new Wrangler S.
Finally, it’s a shame that historically, the brand has such poor reliability. I wish that could be fixed. Thank you both.
Best spec yet!!! Also, those wheels are perfect
How's the ride comfort? You didn't mention whether it's comfortable or not. I guess that with air suspension it would be comfortable
Excited to watch this series. Still, 54k.
I pass the factory in city of Nitra (Slovakia) every other week where this car was manufactured. Maybe I saw yours at one point :)
Good choice on the front bench option....Blaze can sit in the front 👍
Mine is due to arrive next week. I cannot believe the HP it pulls. Like I was I was in shock
The steel wheels look ridiculous, but I love them. I'm all for function over form in an off roader, and I don't need my wheels to be an expensive fashion statement.
When they add a 2.5 in lift and stick 32 or 33 in MTs or AT-MT hybrids they’ll look awesome.
Good purchase guys! Not adding on more expensive options that will break sooner or later. I agree $55k is eye watering but the new Bronco will cost as much and more.
Its interesting seeing the arguing about price below, because in Europe the defender starts in the 35k and the rubicon is knocking on for 50k
Exactly. The cars are similarly priced really, but the economy of shipping them a quarter of the way across the globe clearly hike the price.
Wish u guys still had the LC 200 to compare against the defender offroading.
hi TFLnow, how u can get that basic new LR Defender 110?... all LR websites i get through no one show or offer the basic model, all they show are the unfriendly costly tags!
even the white one u drive here still consider too expensive to me..... then just keep the dream.... puffff!
I’m gonna be custom ordering a 90 in a few months
Nice rig. Can't wait for all the new content. something for me to do while waiting for my bronco. I like the way you have built it. I have been thinking about this path now that you can get sasquatch with the manual. I might go base and not badlands. I like your new rig. get on the road now and post new moab content this weekend.
You're getting a Bronco how cool! What was the test drive like? Must have been good if you've put a deposit on one. When is delivery due?
Wonder if you can turn off the auto stop/start function easily.
53 xm chill like that channel to, how much will a 4 cl tow ? try the 3500 lb test first with 4 in side the car than 5000 with 2 inc the trail dog
Hi I see you order this? I want to orders one and have the accessories and etc that I want. How do you order online. ?
Buy cheap, accessorize later. Good plan. I like the Storm Trooper look. Awaiting your tire upgrade choice.
Congratulations 🥳
Awesome colour. 👏👏
Can’t wait to get mine

That vehicle belongs in a United Nations caravan traversing the deserts of East Africa in that livery.
@Robert Blackford "that dont break down" LMAO sure keep dreaming
I bought one in jan 2024 I like it so far. $47k + extended warranty another 6k. I’m cover for 4y/50k mi
👍 cheapest is still a steep hill for most viewers - good choice look forward to more vids w defender
Another great vid. Thanks, lads. $55k LR vs $55k JKU comparison?
Nailed it - this should have always been the Discovery... not the horrible Discovery5
I read an where one of the executives of land rover admitted that the defender takes the place of the discovery which is now positioned as a mainstream suv not a serious off road suv. If the disco 5 was like the discos before it they would've had a tough time justifying the defender especially in the United States
At 55k why would I buy this over let's say a 4runner trd pro? No fake leather at least which is easier to clean than cloth, no heated seats
I love the 2 of them together!
I wish it came in the Diesel. We would put it into our fleet as we have the yard set up with only one diesel pump for our other fleet trucks. I do question long-term reliability of the turbo 4, which I do know is more reliable than the 6, but it is a JLR product. But we shall see as you rack up the miles
You guys should try to get a TRD Off Road spec 4runner to compare. Seems like that could be its closest competitor, but probably about 10-15k cheaper.
Do you think you will have trouble selling it later on as not many people will want a very low spec Land Rover as they are mostly moving into a competitor to the G wagon more than a wrangler?
Love your videos guys 👍🏻
That is pretty much exactly the one that I would want but I would have kept the center console. Man those are overpriced! The price for that model shouldn't be over $40,000-$45,000, and that still may be too high. Can't wait to see what you all do with it.
Agreed, $48,000 will get you a fully loaded TRD PRO Tacoma or 4runner
I’m stoked for you. Woot!
I’m a Jeep guy but I’m excited to see the videos of this thing. Pretty neat. Way cooler than Bronco ;)
I just wished I’d ordered a pano sunroof on mine (D240). What about you. There’s always a limit on cost though right
Better off without it. Who ever even opens theirs. I’ve had mine closed for five years. Not ordering it on my defender. Roof rack blocks the view anyway, and it’s a couple of hundred less pounds up there that you don’t need. Never ordering a pano ever again.
@@arkos55 that’s a very going point, that I hadn’t thought about. Cheers
Does the rear view mirror function as a real mirror until you need the camera? Camera all the time would drive me nuts.
You switch between the two modes manually.
Road trip to Tuktoyaktuk on the Dempster Highway would be a good test of the Defender.
If Canada ever lets us Americans in again, LOL.
GM: *first to do a camera rear view*
TFL: pretty cool new tech
Land Rover: *follows suit*
TGL: AMAZING
Would of loved to see the base 90 with coil suspension
I listen to your videos thru my vehicle speakers and to me the interior of your vehicle sounds noisy while you ride down the road. It dosen't seem to isolate road noise very good for a expensive vehicle. I wonder if 30,000 more dollars would offer more noise isolation and a quieter ride?
Would you tell us the audience if this newer defender has much better reliability like engine, transmission and electrical system? I'm asking just because lot of owners saying that their land rover got problems after 1 year especially electrical system and resale value that not as good as Toyotas. Also expensive maintenance and repair because parts are hard to find. So I don't know if that still the case for 2020 or 2021 models. I'm just hoping the Defender isn't one of them. Thanks for providing us with details. Keep up the work. 👍
They already got check engine light after 167 miles. Lol.
ruclips.net/video/BtdBunnvnq4/видео.html
@@moulinsart that check engine light looks like the suv is defending itself from being abuse on off-road trails. 😄
I actually like this spec the best! I Hated sunroofs, eventually they gonna leak and it's a pain to fix!
Looking forward to more videos!
It says something about JLR reliability when the parts manager drives an FCA product. Cool purchase nonetheless - those defenders come with a lot standard, dont need to add too much to get a great off roader/overlander.
Or... he can’t afford one? No offense, but they are expensive.
Jackson Scott that’s certainly valid. But JL wranglers can be optioned into the $45-50k+ range. Land rovers depreciate a ton, so he surely could’ve gotten a CPO low mile discovery/velar for the same price as a loaded wrangler.
@@esteban75lover23 true, but that JL he was driving was probably in the 50 something range too, especially with the mods on it.
Agreed, it’s a bad look when your employees drive direct competitors.
But these defenders also typically cost a lot more than even a well optioned wrangler. Their $55k model is kind of a unicorn.
Jake Stoler that is true. but then again a velar/disco and a wrangler aren’t comparable 😂 he probabaly just got what he wanted
Did you do a tow test on this vehicle?
It'll be interesting to see in future videos if this new Discovery turns out to be a durable and capable trail warrior. I'm looking forward to the unbiased reviews from you guys.
I am glad you bought it so you can speak freely about the vehicle. Please be real about your adventures, every review I have seen appears to be a commercial versus a real critique of the vehicle.
You must not have seen their reviews of Subaru Outbacks...
I can live without the the heated stuff and power seats. But that sunroof please yes get it!!
Wow! Full review please)!
If you create an overland rig with a giant set of drawers that mirror is a great thing.
Agreed. I can never see out my back window when full loaded. On my LR4 I can drive with my rearview camera on which I do often. But it’s a rearview parking cam so it helps some but not designed as a rear view mirror. I think that rearview mirror screen is an awesome idea.
You will only ever see them on Tilt Trays here in Australia
Stormtrooper good looks, and well optioned for a base model. Now, to do something about those tires. Those steelies look hungry; I think they need more meat.
You guys need to upgrade to the Hero9 Black!
