( duckco.com/tfl-store ) Check out TFL's apparel store! While the 2020 Land Rover Defender's starting price rings in just under $50,000, good luck actually finding one for that. Most models on dealer lots cost a heartbreaking amount of money, but you can (with a bit of perseverance) get your hands on a less expensive model. U guys should purchase an old defender
@@karstencorros6544 you should pay for it
Dips on if you ever want to sell this 😁
Can't believe options on this thing cost more than I paid for a brand new GTI.
Mark my words...You will need every penny you save for repairs.
I love that you went for a base Defender. This is a lot better than those unrealistic ones. Looking forward to the videos!
Yeah, I'm totally diggin it!
Most of the extras on the 75k seem completely unnecessary on what is supposed to be chosen for its off-road ability. Sadly you miss out in the US on the ingenium diesel engine with better torque. You can blame VWs dieselgate for that missing engine.
Agree
False. The base car is never as good as the higher model. NEVER!
Lmaoo, oh those videos have been entered so far
"...All Defender 110's in the US come with air suspension" 11:25 How sneaky of LR, guaranteeing a steady stream of revenue from future repairs.
Smart move also, because they’ll take a small market share from the people who are just shopping for a mall crawler. The defender will ride 10x better on road vs a Rubicon that won’t be utilized.
It's not just the air suspension - the whole vehicle is a money trap. A mechanic friend believed that he could run a Landrover because he had his own workshop and unlimited repair facilities, and even he only took a short time to realise it was the biggest mistake of his life.
all about that recurring revenue
Ein Felder it all depends on the model. The LR3 is pretty damn solid
@@user-fz3sz2dj4r it has over 80 ECU's , thats Range Rover and Discovery baby
You did the right thing getting the base model with the cool steel wheels, adding only useful off-road options and avoiding the overpriced gadgets and bling. Perfect choice.
This is how I would order one as well (except maybe a green or tan exterior instead of white). Those steelies are awesome plus a locker! Well played sirs..
The steelies honestly look better.
The best expression of a father to son relationship: "friend and son".
This is the reason I still follow you guys.
Tommy didn't know his father sees a friend in him
Jesus go have a relationship with your father
“The 2.0 liter engine is pretty darn reliable” that didn’t age well
🤣
😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂
Loool
It wasnt the engine tho
@@hiroandzerotwo878 But it is though.
“Friend and Son, Tommy” (gets teary eyed) nice.
Tommy is the best video guy of everyone.
Was about to type the same comment
Better a son than some he/she transgender.
For those not following, It took 2 days and 167 miles for the check engine light to come on.
Just think, you can have that exact same experience combined with off road capability for far less money with a Jeep Wrangler.
Update: the check engine light is off but now the fancy camera system is broke. It's been to the dealership for repair 3 times in a little over 300 miles and they've owned it about 2-3 weeks. At that rate, a cross country trip should only take 18 months....
@@madmatt2024 Or a bronco (soon!)
For Christ’s sake
Update: now with 250 miles, a week at the dealer and a factory engineer on site.....the cameras are still broke, the check enging light is back on, and the engineer is replacing the coils and wires now!
Some wag posted elsewhere that 90% of Land Rovers are still on the Road, the other 10% made it home, GOOD LUCK.
Haha that is awesome.
@@drw1926 Arr You gotta find the good stuff and plagiarize it.
Yeah.. it’s been going around for a while in several versions.
They may brake down all the time, but the owners tend to give them love
@@simpleinverso8628 Just like some guy married to a tart, but he continues to forgive her infidelities.
This spec actually makes sense for going offroad
Only if you spend most of your time off road. Most of us don't. Many comforts amenities have now become a part of life even on pickups. RAM taught us that. Can you even buy a car nowadays with crank windows? At this point, there really is no going back.
Not at 55 grand
No it doesn't. Air suspension is GUARANTEED to fail. The only defenders you should ever buy are coil spring defenders.
IMO seeing how little they give you for your $55K, proves how over priced these are. You get more tech in a Corolla.
Yea but you can't take corolla on Moab do ya
@@axel3895 ..what's your point? Additionally, 98% of these won't see Moab either.
Check out the Ford Bronco configurator or the Jeep configurator. The defender 90 is competitively very competitively priced with them and has better interiors and tech.
For all the people who respond with “why didn’t you buy this or that for less”, your missing the whole point!
There is a point that could be made tho... a base model 90 defender will be cheaper than a base model 110 so is it really the cheapest defender tho?
It's the cheapest that is currently available as I understand it.
@@chewmeful base model 90 isn't available yet
No where not you are lol
Very correct Fritty, been waiting for good Defender tests, but as it turns out, these guys have thrown themselves on a sword for us! I would be raging hard if my new car was down over a month after one days use!!!
So weird how steelies are coming back in style and a 55k offroader has them.
The new defender is just a bling toy, breaks down like a range rover
How has your first few days of ownership gone?
@@Fixin-To Every thing feels like plastic. Not an offroader at all more like a City SUV :(
*55k and it has the same steelies I can buy from ACE hardware for a trailer*
They look like a spare tire
@HistoryFan 88 Nope. Steel wheels are the standard wheel on the very base spec 110
@@zacharyreynolds4303 If you want fog lights, it’s over $4000 above base price because they aren’t even an option on the base model. $4000 for the next model up to get a $170 option🤦🏽♂️
@HistoryFan 88 How can you comment such a demonstrably false comment when you could have simply gone to the land rover website and seen that you're wrong? Instead you let everyone know you're a flaming asshole.
Half of the options that you mentioned you're missing are pretty much standard on waaay cheaper normal cars... what the heck land rover 😂
Fantastic comparison with no gimmicks. Love it. BTW I’m a huge fan of your shows and it’s great to see father and son duo are crushing it. Keep it up and love you guys.
Congratulation, guys! I actually truly like the base model much more than the X, and yours for the way you've configured it! I wish you many happy miles and trails in it! I look forward to your reviews...and not only of this off-roader.
Congratulations! Looking forward to all content on the Defender 🤙🏼
Cool profile pic Ryan! 👍
My favorite movie!
V8AmericanMuscleCar Thank You! Definitely a timeless classic
Brian Bickle 😂 what would life be without surprises and uncertainty.
Doesn’t exist
Now if the dealership is of distance sure that would be blah 😕
I really like it, but man, $55k doesn’t get you powered seats?
Eh who cares
Tbh I only prefer power seats for the backrest adjustment, which their defender has. I prefer manual forward and back function.
@@MrEcksDeah Agreed. I can count the times in a week I adjust my seat in my F-150 on one finger. Many other options (LED headlights for starters) are much more important to me. Unfortunately Ford has yet to offer such safety features standard on any F-150.
I know, luxury cars are weird like that, over $50K and missing things that cars less than $35K have standard these days
I find more offensive that you dont get Fog lights really...
I like that you called him your friend and son. Nice review "friends"
TFL is the best. You guys really go above and beyond for content. Things never slow down, always something new and exciting.
That’s why You guys are the best! You guys not only review the cars, but you buy them also to review them for long term !
You guys are great together and we appreciate your hard work for us to see it first!!!
Been really looking forward to this video. Can't wait for some great off road content. Can't wait to see this defender tackle some epic colorado passes.
"I'll need my friend and son to help me to do that."
Love this :)
And the great video too, of course. Spot on!
I was surprised to see a two door is available. That would be cool for me. TFL has cameras and crew to carry. Nice ride and congratulations TFL
They also got the 110 over the 90 because the defender 90 isn’t out yet, the 110 defender is. They are the “you saw it here first” brand after all :)
We’ve just bought our new Defender with steel wheels and it looks soooooo cool, in Tasman Blue with a white roof, we love it
Until they rust.
@@krane15 In like 20 years, lmao
@ Indian designed 😂 do some research you bigot
@@krane15 they are made of aluminium.
@@axel3895 Did you watch the video?
Sometimes less is more. Need versus want. The dealers stock luxury models to make more profit. I am glad you can still place an order for what you want and not have to buy more. I really like what you built there. I would have skipped the jump seat. Best of luck with it. I can see you trading it in for a Bronco in 12 months...
Dealers stock vehicles with more features because they sell faster. No one needs a base model truck that isn't in high demand eating into their floorplan. Some dealers do have base model trucks as their primary mode of inventory if they're a commercial truck dealer.
Don't think it will ever come back to them,it's at the dealer, no known fix,and from what I'm hearing, these new defenders have 2 main faults, a high failure rate, and a low successful repair rate! Diagnosis is now swapping modules and brains which means it is never easy or cheap to fix, and as it's a new model, parts supply is poor! bet JLR are sending a replacement vehicle as it's now WAY past lemon law requirements
I can’t wait to see what reliability issue they will face while taking it on multiple off road adventures
Looks like it already broke down. LOL!
it’s been 150miles and already
They have had all kinds of problems lol. They had a check engine light on with a misfire in one cylinder. Got it fixed and now their camera system does not work at all.
Are you still going to get a Bronco? Would love to see that comparison.
Of course they are
@@curtissharris8914 Ford has already banned TFL from Ford events; they may not accept their deposit reservation on a Bronco...
@@devildog5354 ok couldn't stop a determined person now could it.
@@curtissharris8914 If that scenario unfolded, yes TFL could probably place an order using subterfuge. I don't think that will help them get back into Ford's good graces though, which I have to assume TFL would like to occur...
@@devildog5354 strange how it has to be subterfuge or that they somehow need to kiss the ring of Ford.
Tommy seems like a really nice person. I hope for success for this channel and for both of you as well.
I just ordered a 2021 Defender 110 S P300. I’m going for Pangea Green with the Acorn interior with the following options:
- Comfort & Convenience pack
- Off-Road pack
- Advanced Off-Road Capability pack
- Cold Weather pack
- Sliding Panoramic Roof
- Premium LED headlights
- Front Foglights
- Rough Cut Walnut veneer
- 12 way Heated Front Seats
- 19” Six-Spoke Sparkle Silver wheels
Delivery date is the week of February 12th. I can’t wait!
I’m really excited to see this base model and that engine. Excited to see the mpg and how y’all like it on the trails
I can't wait for all the upcoming Defender content.
I love the way Tommy describes how much he really likes all of the stuff it doesn't have. The kid's a born salesman.
"Yeah sure, it doesn't have any wheels, but the wheels it *doesn't* have are the really nice ones. If you'd like to see something a little cheaper, we're getting one in next week with the engine delete option. It get's two miles to the Big Mac, but the manufacturer recommends using the Quarter Pounder with Cheese.
I’m so glad you got a defender I think the base spec looks best in every way
I hope you off-road it hard
I'm excited. Great idea for a series. Great job guys
You guys did great. I love that there is no sunroof or moonroof to leak water. The only thing I would have added is fog lights, but you can always do it later. Let's see her offroad. 😆
Coming soon, please stay tuned!
Great video! I love the fact you kept it simple. I would have omitted the centre front seat but chosen the other options.. 900 bucks saved! And yes, XM radio is a must. I've got mine set on channel 53 as well.
Congratulations guys, that's the one that fits the most with the work you do!
Can't wait to see you guys build this!
This is great. All the other reviewers never talk about the base model, they are always in the decked out models. This is a great comparison.
This great!!! Perfect buy and I can't wait to see what you guys do to it.
Watching this again and had to laugh when Roman said “meet our new LONG TERM defender”
I believe this is the most sensible spec! Get all u missing and more from after market at a quarter of the cost! Cheers.
Nice one guys, I think makes sense to always opt for the base and a few lines above base models, 10 years down the line they will retail for same and base might even sell some more with less gizmos that would've gone bad. Sadly our fuel system with very poor Octane levels will not run fine in the long term in the 4 cyl turbo units so we will save for the 6 pots...looking forward to seeing these on our Workshop for routine maintenance
Excellent spec in IMHO. I like those cloth seats. The rubber floormats are very nice also. That gauge cluster is perfect. Very sharp looking vehicle. Looking forward to more!
Great video! About those tow hooks... Pop the cap off your rear bumper, screw in your tow hooks... And bam! Exposed tow hooks!
Congratulations! Enjoy. Look forward to watching it
Congrats, nice purchase Roman
Thanks
Y'all's looks better than the more expensive version. I dig it! Nice spec.
I'm glad you went for the base model, it's the closest to the original. The only thing I would have lies the electric socket in the back for camping but there's probably plenty workarounds for that.
My friend and son, i loved that introduction Roman!
Terrific video ! Looking forward to some entertaining content . Happy Trails .
Excellent video. I have been waiting for it and look forward to the upcoming testing videos. By the way, for 2021 you can order the premium LED signature headlight as a stand-alone option.
I LOVE THESE GUYS!!!!!!!
The Cheap Lane! Oh I couldn't lose this joke! Anyhow, you guys are awesome! Excellent car you got. Anxious on the next videos. Cheers!
Awesome video. Thanks.
Great review and congratulations. I looking forward to knowing more about this vehicle. I might have a moment of lunacy and replace my upgraded Tundra. Cheers.
That fold down seat will make a nice place for the mechanic to set his lunch while it's in for repairs.
Man great call going with the base. Love that front third seat haha 😆
Came here for the Defender video, ended up buying those Kove headphones 🎧😹😹😹
I’m super pumped about this purchase! I just bought a Gladiator Rubicon and the Defender was the only other vehicle on my hit list.
Wrap it! ;)
I'm loving this idea 👍 Great content guys.
Good purchase Guys. I will watch with interest because I am an old model Defender fan and have therefore not really been keeping up with the new one, sort of poo pooing it actually. Even though I know that it is probably awesome. Love the Tommy line, " The headlining is sitting up there mocking you for not getting the sunroof." Hilarious and what is that crazy music that Roman really enjoys?
Did you ever post a list of options selected for this vehicle? Considering doing this.
Pleasantly surprised how good the no frills model looks next to the loaded ones ! 😲👌🏻👍🏻
Great video. Nice to see a Defender heading off road. Want to see how a TRD Pro 4 Runner or GX 460, G Wagen, and of course 90's era Defender compare against if offroad.
I can't tell if this will help with depreciation (less to depreciate) or hurt (less desirable), but I'm glad you do reviews like this since it's how most of us common folk would approach something like this! Nice job!
I'm not much of an off road driver by any measure, but after this comparison I'd be very likely to spec a defender just like yours, apart from the jump seat. Good review!
Check engine light brought me here!
Great comparison Tommy!
Love the dad and son combo, u guys rock
Awesome video. I’ve been wondering if we (USA) could get the basic model. I like the basic so far. Great shots of the differences.
Congratulations on you New Defender
“Friend and son “ ....whow that’s great !!!
Strongs with the Landie though!!!
😅
We love xm 53 chill as well!! All cars and trucks and house! A must have!
Have loved your videos ever since... I actually prefer your spec. So much more usable and fuss free.
I like that you bought the base model. We all can't afford the top model vehicles, with the big engines. Show me a base engine truck review, and i'll love it..
Base is all ya need! Id opt out of the “jump seat” tho. But awesome comparison vid!
“CHILL 53” is the best XM Station, agreed!
Base is pretty solid already! Bang for Buck!
Who else thought that Infotainment screen was smashed at 6:19
Oh yeah somebody got frustrated with the new system 🤣
Yeah, freaked me out for a bit... Was gonna mention it and read your comment...
Good catch! 👍🏼
Nice review!! I could be very happy with the 110, other than the sticker price!
Looking forward to following this machine!
That’s still pretty nice even being the base model. I would definitely get one just with the upgraded engine
Nice ride guys. I'd still go for the upgraded version because my offroad rigs have to be daily drivers as well...
Whats not daily drivable about his?
I love how much you appear to enjoy yourselves. All the things you talk about have no impact on my life here in the UK. As you know the highest point here is about 27 feet above sea level. Going off road here means turning onto your driveway!! But I am a fan. 🇬🇧😉🏔️
I really like your approach to this long term tester. Hopefully you will upgrade certain components beyond just tires and make this into a full blown off-road camping truck (I hate the overlanding term - sick of it).
I’m digging the stripped down version. Nice job on this video
Amazing car! Well done guys.
That's pretty decent. Locking diff, some creature comforts and that 4 cylinder turbo sound like its got plenty of grunt. Still pricy for a "base model" but definitely a cool platform to customize.
I've always loved steel wheels, makes the Defender look more rugged.
I really do prefer your choice. It just sits right with me. More rugged and usable.
When you get a chance how about a pros and cons video of 5 door v 3 door base vehicles?
Man, yours is FAR cooler than those high end models. The wheels alone are amazing.
I would like to know the list of options and how much was each of them??
Good challenge .. I can not wait until see more honest review
For 30k in savings I'd say you guys did well with your purchase. I really like it and at 55k it doesn't seem like such a dumb buy...like you're actually going to be willing to wheel it rather than just mall crawl.
I actually really like the spec on that one. I'm glad that you guys bought one, I'm really looking forward to seeing the videos and what you end up doing with it. That said though, other than for somebody who's already a big Land Rover fan, I just don't see the appeal of this thing.
I know this is probably been said elsewhere a dozen times already, but for 55k you can buy a pretty nicely specced out JLU Rubicon.
