Exactly. Honestly, I thought I'd like the design in DOOM Eternal a lot more, but seeing it in comparison with DOOM 2016 makes me think it was a step in the wrong direction. It has become way too cartoony now.

Yeah I really don’t like the new design the 2016 design was so meaty and chunky making you feel powerful but the new design makes it way to cartoon like it’s glory kills are way to light instead of heavy then is makes it feel like your actually there and the weight on the glory kills in 2016 are perfect without the doomslayer actually using his hands instead of his *amazing new extendo blade* but with the blade it makes it look to easy to kill the demons it makes it look like anyone with a sword could kill a demon

The idea of “generation” was already very blurry back then. We also had Half Life 2 on PC and later Xbox, but we have to keep in mind that the 360 came out one year later so it wasn’t really far. Also, while the Xbox had a more modern GPU with programmable pixel shaders when compared to the GameCube, which allowed it to easily receive games like Doom. The GC still had an edge in bandwidth, CPU design and vertex oriented GPU operations. We don’t even have to compare with Wii, just take a look at Rebel Strike and RE4 on the GC and Doom 3 and Splinter Cell CT on Xbox. There was really no better hardware in the end, each had it’s own advantage.

Captain Spider that's because it was a boss in 2016 called THE cyberdemon while the original cyberdemons in Eternal are called "Tyrants". So canonically the 2016 cyberdemon was the prototype for the Tyrants or original cyberdemons and aren't related.

Some monsters look better on Doom 2016 than Doom Eternal. Revenants, Cacodemons and Barons for example. Doom Eternal versions look like World of Warcraft monsters.

Regardless of who says what , a few models were amazing in Eternal , majority were outstanding in 2016's Doom , and the OGs are great as well. Doom 3 is an exercise in realism and horror. You have to judge it differently.
I like other doom designs compared to doom 3, but it's fun to take characters usually used in an action/ sci-fi and make them realistic. Not always a good choice, but fun
The Eternal versions are incredible for how close to the OG sprites they are, but I feel like the 2016 versions are the coolest versions of these Demons for me. They just look so much more Gritty & realistic, & a heck of a lot more terrifying!
Plus... I find the Eternal versions a tad bit too funny for my taste. Not that it's a Bad thing, I love the facial animations most of the Demons have during the Up front Glory Kills.😂
Doom 3 was on a whole other vibe, There designs were more horror based, not saying what they have now is bad , def gives an arcade vibe or classic vibe but , 3 gives me dead space / obsure vibes
2016 was boring in terms of visuals. I finished that game in one sitting on my second play through and can’t remember a single distinguishable design. Hell some of its designs are just objectively bad, such as the baron of hell. Whose colour palette does not contrast well with literally anything else in the scenery whenever they appear
I’m glad that they stuck with the hell Knights designs from doom 3 onward. I know they didn’t really have a choice unless they wanted a Baron recolor, but I’m glad they stuck with this particular design instead of changing it.
in doom's 3 story theyre clasified as aliens from beggining to end in the UAC, the demonic part comes from every single normal being cappable of seeing theyre demons but yeah, filling files and reports and blah blah
I love how Doom 2016 characters models looks more realistic and has more individual animations per body part or weapons. Eternal characters look more stiff and doesn’t have the same body physics animations
Yah Doom Eternal is kind of a Renaissance. It’s bringing back aspects of older doom games while also being modern with some things and mechanics returning from Doom 2016.
If you look at the hell knight from doom three it seems clear that the subsequent doom games took a lot of inspiration from that model when designing their hell knights.
I really like how 1, 2, 2016, and Eternal are all relatively similar, and then 3's models are all just the most horrifying creatures anyone could ever encounter.
@@Godzillakuj94 the Cyberdemon is actually entirely different then a Tyrant. I believe the Cyberdemon was pieced together by the UAC for testing purposes while the Tyrant is its own thing, so it makes sense that they are different
That's not how game developing works, they just cannot recycle the models from an older game, im a player of the original Doom so i personally preffer the eternal models, so nostalgic.

gyro_ loqu I used to dislike Doom 3 in my childhood but I completed it recently and realised how wrong I was! It’s not directly related to the other Dooms but sequels don’t always work out that way. I will say it is an amazing game which has aged very well.

The MC from Doom 3 would get mulched in any other Doom game simply because he's not built to keep up with the pacing of an action game.

not only in design but the choices as well, like, you take your super shotgun out of a body on Doom 2016, on Eternal, floating icon, which really annoyed me, same with some sound effects like the stun effect, which is silly and out of place, not to mention the story, Doom 2016 has this Dark Souls way of story telling, while Doom Eternal shoves everything in your place, besides, it is really odd the time jump between Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, also the heaven stuff is really messy and weird, i didn't like much the direction the story went.

They're really cool creatures that feel very alien and organic and just look absolutely evil. Eternal, however, clearly went all-out on making things feel as hardcore as possible. There is a man literally spitting fire out of his body in Eternal. There's a big fat man with a hideous face and foot-long tusks who's gonna shoot you with his giant arm-cannons. That's pretty metal, dude

The Hell Knight is my favorite enemy to fight, it's cool to know that DOOM 3 was what made the contemporary look for it...until DOOM Eternal gave it eyes...am I the only one who thinks he looks cooler without them?

I think doom 3s cyber demon looks the best. Just this giant hulking monstrosity of flesh and machine with honestly great Sfx. The hell knight I think looks better as well because I love how they sounded and that the whole environment shook with each step they took

Doom 3 is designed for surival horror shooter (like Dead Space 1) that you have to feel horror. The rest of the titles are just Action-Shooter, the demons have to feel horror.

I honestly feel like each of those games have their own greatness in designs. - DOOM and DOOM 2 have the og design that made those demons who they are today. - DOOM 3 really turned those demons into horror vision and creepier things (which isn't a bad thing at all) - DOOM 2016 kept this horror feeling while adding more realism, colors and details - DOOM Eternal focused much more on remaking the original designs. I actually love them all, for sure there are some designs I prefer more than others, but overall the great work kept on being done since the very first DOOM. I wish we could choose to modify the skins in Eternal to use the ones from 2016, but it would make things more complicated for "dismembering" demons. Great video tho, thanks for making it !
i personally felt like the Doom 3 revenant looked a tiny bit of lower quality compared to the others, but i might just be missing something :p also my favorite is the Cacodemon
People have the right to criticize considering there is something to criticize so don’t act like there isn’t, doom eternal has unquestionably worse textures, and look at how they massacred baron of hell, hell knight, and pinky, and you can’t even argue it was to make it look more like the original because they are closer to doom 2016. Also you can say the revenant was made to look more like the old design, but wow it’s bad, they made it look like a plastic model which is a shame because the revenant in doom 2016 was legendary and even if you don’t like it for some crazy reason you can’t deny the quality of it, and all the doom 2016 models had high texture quality honestly

I love how the Doom Slayers armour in Eternal strikes the excellent balance between 2016 and original can say that for the games demons as well Eternal was fucking amazing its gonna have to take a lot to improve on that formula should they continue the Doom franchise reboot or otherwise

Regardless of who says what , a few models were amazing in Eternal , majority were outstanding in 2016's Doom , and the OGs are great as well. Doom 3 is an exercise in realism and horror. You have to judge it differently.
Doom 3 designs are underrated.
I like other doom designs compared to doom 3, but it's fun to take characters usually used in an action/ sci-fi and make them realistic. Not always a good choice, but fun
I feel they should have double downed on 2016 rather than divert to cartoony. Go even more brutal and satanic. Think they missed the mark.

The Eternal versions are incredible for how close to the OG sprites they are, but I feel like the 2016 versions are the coolest versions of these Demons for me.
They just look so much more Gritty & realistic, & a heck of a lot more terrifying!

I would say it's because of a limited colour palette, so the colours are extremely contrasting giving it a more old horror-style feel

2016 was boring in terms of visuals. I finished that game in one sitting on my second play through and can’t remember a single distinguishable design. Hell some of its designs are just objectively bad, such as the baron of hell. Whose colour palette does not contrast well with literally anything else in the scenery whenever they appear

@@Godzillakuj94 the Cyberdemon is actually entirely different then a Tyrant. I believe the Cyberdemon was pieced together by the UAC for testing purposes while the Tyrant is its own thing, so it makes sense that they are different

That's not how game developing works, they just cannot recycle the models from an older game, im a player of the original Doom so i personally preffer the eternal models, so nostalgic.

not only in design but the choices as well, like, you take your super shotgun out of a body on Doom 2016, on Eternal, floating icon, which really annoyed me, same with some sound effects like the stun effect, which is silly and out of place, not to mention the story, Doom 2016 has this Dark Souls way of story telling, while Doom Eternal shoves everything in your place, besides, it is really odd the time jump between Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, also the heaven stuff is really messy and weird, i didn't like much the direction the story went.

I honestly feel like each of those games have their own greatness in designs.
- DOOM and DOOM 2 have the og design that made those demons who they are today.
- DOOM 3 really turned those demons into horror vision and creepier things (which isn't a bad thing at all)
- DOOM 2016 kept this horror feeling while adding more realism, colors and details
- DOOM Eternal focused much more on remaking the original designs.
I actually love them all, for sure there are some designs I prefer more than others, but overall the great work kept on being done since the very first DOOM. I wish we could choose to modify the skins in Eternal to use the ones from 2016, but it would make things more complicated for "dismembering" demons.

I like that design better than the 2016 one tbh. I was never a huge fan of the look of the cyber demon from 2016, he's way too chonk and his head doesn't really fit in with its contemporaries.
Raptormann0205 apparently the cyber- demon in 2016 is some different version I guess, but eternal brought back the original look, just with modifications and new name
@@Raptorman0205 Honestly 2016 Cyber demon looks kinda weird even along side the other 2016 demons. Might be because his design is one of the first created for that game, at least from what i've heard.
in doom 3 they tried something different and it had more of a horror vibe to it. I'm really glad they brought back the OG look in eternal

They actually have the same amount of detail, even more in some cases. I don't understand why people say this. The only exception would be the cyberdemon because it's an entirely new model.

Dunno 2016 and eternal have more realisric looking demons imo. That also means so do 1 and 2 because 2016 sort of went back to the roots and eternal made them even more original based
Doom 3 ones all look like zombies you would meet in resident evil series, not something i would expect to be a demon. Except the guardian and cyberdemon that do look hellish.

I love how the Doom Slayers armour in Eternal strikes the excellent balance between 2016 and original can say that for the games demons as well Eternal was fucking amazing its gonna have to take a lot to improve on that formula should they continue the Doom franchise reboot or otherwise
