- Shallow, in the Oscars gala was a total success, but Dutch singer Floor Jensen killed the performance in the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers "Best Singers" in 2019. Here is a comparison between the two singers. They both are very talented and depending on your taste you might like one or the other. Metal singer Floor Jansen did an amazing performance after all.

@@danielekovalski6123 Floor has and sings her own songs, beautiful songs. Moreover, Emma Hesters sang Floor's own song "Strong" at Beste Zangers too. The choice with Shallow was made according to Beste Zangers rules, where participants picks songs significant for the other members of the show.
Floor sang it because it was a contest and it was picked for her. Not only that that she took gag gags song and sang it a lot better. Gag gag couldn’t begin to sink Floors songs, she hasn’t the vocal range. Fact.
Agree with you Ted, Dear Danielle looks up the songs that Floor performed at Best Zangers last year, the vocal range is impressive, and she can perform songs by other artists better than her creators.

One of these two has a voice that sounds like it is comming straight from the soul, the other sounds like there is no soul in it. I think I don't have to explain who is who. If people would understand what kind of place Hollywood is, you would stay away from it as far as possible. With Floor you would be sitting in the front row. Just to explain the difference.

@@Nikioko It is a matter of taste of course but the ones Preston mentions are certainly less than Floor, especially when it comes to versatility. Floor can sing any genre and has a huge vocal skillset. Simone is good but does not have Floor's versatility, and the others are good at their own genre but can't do anything else. Floor improves every original. For me, she is indeed the best on the planet but you may disagree of course.

This what i find: Unlucky Morpheus are very good musicians (!), a bit in the style of Epica, and Fuki is a good singer, BUT she sings everything with the same texture and color in her voice, and a very "wide" vibrato (that I find a bit tyring). And her dynamics are quite limited. There is little development in her singing, whereas the great power of Floor Jansen is that she can change the texture and color of her voice for every word and sometimes even in the middle of a vowel. And furthermore miss Jansen also uses this power with great skill and uses her great command of dynamics to build the structure and story of the song, and take the listerner for a ride that is hard to forget.. That is exactly why so many people talk about about "Floorgasms" and you can read many commentaries on the YT that go like "I hate you Floor, now I am a blubbering mess for the rest of the day", or "wow, I can't talk right now", etc. With this Fuki I find nothing of this. She is just quite busy on the stage, but it does not lead anywhere. Floor Jansen is way way superior to this, and for as far as I know only a very few singers in the genre can even come close to her (amongst whom: Simone Simons, Tarja, Amy Lee)
Both singers are great and Lady Gaga is one of these so called Divas that actually can sing and lets not forget she wrote the song; Floor says in the Beste Zangers show that she really is impressed by lady Gaga and the way she writes and performs without letting herself be influenced by others. The Shallow version from Floor is Outstanding, whatever she touches vocaly is lifted to another level. For me she is the best female singer our times and so versatile. Operatic, acoustic, belting, Metal and now pop style. She adds to the musical perfection the emotion like no other singer can. So many listeners are tearing up when they hear her voice,, it goes straight to the heart.
There is no winner in this comparism, in the end we all are the winners to have such a great song and two special women performing it.

Actually, Lara Fabian at least equals Floor in expressing emotions. Go look up Je Suis Malade by her, any live performance will do. Of course Floor still has a greater range of vocal techniques.

Lady Gaga is a Mezzo Soprano so it's harder for her to hit high notes. Floor is a classically trained soprano, she has a natural higher voice and way better technique so this song is pretty easy for her...

You should also watch the version of "Winner" she sang for Tim Akkerman (the composer) on Beste Zangers. That one reduced Tim to tears - he was quoted as saying he never cries, and his album the song was from was entitled "Lions don't cry"...
At the end of the song, he says (I'm paraphrasing here, but it's more or less accurate) "Goddamn it Floor, I'm gonna have to change the album title..."

Floor said she hasn´t sung many pop songs in her life and this was a challenge. Well I listen to her sing it and she absolutely nails it. It´s perfect! I´ve never heard such a beautiful and powerful voice as Floor´s. Hard to believe sometimes.

Just meandering through RUclips the other day and clicked on a reaction video to Ghost Love Score. Blew my mind! Straight onto more Nightwish and Floor Jansen. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing; compositional genius and amazing vocals. Realised I knew nothing about music after all but got over that quickly immersing myself in their back catalogue. Until now my favourite female vocalist was Ann Wilson (yes I am that old) but I have to say that Floor now holds top spot. What she can do with her voice is almost unbelievable. She has a huge presence, sensitivity and warmth that shines through her performances. Lady Gaga is a good entertainer with a decent voice, Floor is simply on a completely different level.

I've really never heard a singer with more richness of tone than Floor Jansen possesses. Coupled with her ability to sing so many different styles and sing them all extremely well, she is, in my opinion, the best female vocalist that I can think of. Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Lauren Hill, Karen Carpenter, Pat Benatar, Anne Wilson ... the list goes on of voices that I could compare Floor with. She is equal to any of them in their particular styles, but she can do so much more than any of them that I put her above them all.
Lara Fabian is maybe the only one that is an equal of Floor when it comes to expressing emotions

Floor owns everything she sings, Her vocal talent is Amazing, Truly a gift from the Gods for this Valkyrie Goddess.
It's a bit unfair to compare anything that involves Floor, she's arguably the best (or at least one of) female singer(s) in the world today.
Any song she sings, that isnt hers, gets better than the original version, simply because of the tremendous skill and talent that Floor has.
Lady Gaga is a amazing singer in her own right, but how many people can battle Floor and stand a chance to win? not too many.
I do not mind the compare tho, its nice to see both versions side by side so we can see and hear the contrast and differences between both performances.

In my opinion there are only 2 possibilities. 1) You have never heard of Floor Jansen. 2) You love Floor Jansen. This showcases maybe 10% of her capabilities, and I am absolutely not exaggerating. In case you have never heard of Floor Jansen, do yourself a favour. Check her out, or you may regret it for life.
No hard feelings, if you decides otherwise after viewing a few performances of her, or Nightwish, but see it as an investment in your musical knowledge at least.
Ah now I see.. you seem to be the Floor variant of a Tarja minion. Perhaps many Floor fans agree with you on several points, myself included, but you need not be evangelical about it and telling people not to make a comment until they check out more of her works first. It's just unnecessary and/or annoying, depending on who you ask.
I am sorry. Not what I meant. Everyone is entitled to his or hers favourite singer and or band. But in my opinion, unless you dislikes it immediately, it is wise to check more performances before you make up your mind whether you like or dislikes a new singer or group you are first exposed to. Otherwise you have the risk of losing out on new music, which would be a pity.

Lady Gaga is one of my favorite singers, see by example her performance with the Rolling Stones, gimme shelter! But our Floor sings so easy with more feelings and technics. She dont need to force her voice. She is The Voice.

I know, that Floor respects Lady Gaga and she loves the song. Lady Gaga wrote quite a beautiful piece of music here, and she performs it with a lot of energy. But that is not enough in this case. Floor's version is so delicate and emotional and she does it so effortlessly. Sorry, Lady Gaga. She beat you at your own game.
Don't forget that Lady Gaga wrote this song. Unlike most other pop stars, she studied music and writes her songs herself. And she plays the piano herself. Sure, as a professional singer, Floor is also proficient in playing the piano, but I would say that Lady Gaga is better at this.

Ok, so Floors performance was divine and I'm not going to mention the other one.
Lady Gaga is a great singer and artist but listening side by side Gaga has a very forward placed nasally quality to her style here and I just like Floor's tone better and also feel like something about the way she sings it feels more emotional and evokes a stronger emotional response from myself when I'm hearing it. I'm a big fan of Floor admittedly but I think her amazing technical prowess shouldn't overshadow that ability she has to evoke strong emotional feelings with her singing.

That can be said for most singers. Floors voice seems to come from so deep within that it sounds extremely rich and rounded. That is so difficult to achieve, particularly when she can do it so softly.

Others don't dare that. The Beste Zangers show proves that. When it was Floor's episode (so the others had to sing her songs) they all chose something that Floor liked or that was played at her parent's house when she grew up. Nobody except Tim Akkerman (he's a rock singer) dared to sing a Nightwish song. And even Tim chose for 'Nemo', not exactly a metal song. It would have been better if the show rules were that each singer had to sing a song out of the repertoire of the artist on the couch, and not from any other artist.
Lady Gaga is an amazing performer, my heart lies with Floor though, her voice....

Lady Gaga is like jellying, not even close to real feelings. She is a good singer, but I feel way too much "hollywood" in her performance. Sorry Gaga, but for real emotions and voice Floor is the clear winner.

To be fair to Gaga, this song was written specifically for the film "A Star Is Born", which is a Hollywood blockbuster. Some of those Hollywood vibes may well be intentional. But yes, Floor delivers the emotion of the song much more impactfully.

Lady Gaga puts too much power on it to even reach the notes which makes it a bit more uncontrolled as where Floor keeps total control of her voice.

Lady Gaga is singing at the top of what she can do, while Floor uses maybe 5% of her power. That's why the Gaga version sounds more like screaming at the high notes, while you get chills all over your body (Floorgasm) when Floor is singing the high notes.
