Across The Night when I was really little. I think when I was like 4. I was in the car with my mom and this song came on. She loves Silverchair. As a drummer in a band and main lyrical writer; some of these songs inspire me a lot and I will never take this band for granted.
Suicidal Dream - when I was listening to a grunge-punk playlist on Spotify that somehow included this song. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it's a great song, I would just expect to see something heavier or thrashier in a grunge-punk playlist.
I then listened non-stop for like a week to Frogstomp and then to Freak Show, both are absolutly awsome albums.
"Tomorrow" was the first song I heard of theirs in 1995 and I was around 11 years old and I seen the video being played constantly on Mtv. I had to get their album so I did and I loved every single song on it! I didn't get to see them in concert until their tour for 'Freak Show' in 1997 and they were awesome! I got to see them 3 times. Once on the 'Freak Show' tour and twice on the 'Neon Ballroom' tour and I got to meet every single one of them except Daniel (who I wanted to meet the most of course!) but they were my favorite band for a long time. I'm not a big fan of Daniel's solo stuff or newer music but I still love Silverchair and always will!
Open Fire/ Ana's Song
I heard Tomorrow on the radio in early '95. It wasn't my typical style of music but you couldn't deny how good it was. My brother used to flog Frogstomp from when it came out. Spewing I missed seeing them in concert. Absolutely kicking myself because I was never told how bloody amazing they were live (as I have recently seen on RUclips).
Frogstomp is a banger, front to back. I dig every single song, but Shade is my favorite. The raw emotion in that simplistic song was always quite impressive to me. Such a gem
Silverchair hit me perfectly. When Frogstomp was released, I was a teenage young musician the same age as they were, and also growing up in a remote area (West Virginia is no Australia but still). I learned every note on that album, and it's still one of my top 5. This band changed my life.
Frogstomp and Freakshow are still two of my favorite rock albums of all time. They lost me after that.
Bands are meant to evolve. They got sick of the common man grunge wave after that and went their own way. Can’t blame em for bein innovative.
@xuphy9503 I don't blame them. I believe that every artist should be free to create with whatever colors they feel driven to use.
That said.
They must also be aware that with changing cars, you will change your audience as well. Sure, there will be those who care for the band more than the music, but in most cases, you will lose a lot of people; and that's OK.
I am a fan of different forms of music, from rock to hip-hop, to blues, to jazz, to classical. But with every genre, I'm drawn to a certain spirit in the music as well as the music itself; Silverchair shed that spirit in exchange for a different one.
If that makes any sense.
Yeah besides greatest view and straight line they’re pretty cool songs
I agree so after those albums but I also dug Neon Ballroom. I would not say any of these albums are the best rock has to offer.
Their first 3 albums is my high school anthem 🇵🇭❤️👍
While Frogstomp gives me the happiest kind of nostalgia for my youth, Diorama is probably one my top 7 favorite and most beautiful albums in my life. The behind the scenes documentary on that album really gives you an appreciation of what a musical talent Daniel is.
They went better and better every record with a unique sound, and hardcore grunge fans didn't like it.
Anthem for the Year 2000 hit young anxty me deep, and get me into the band. But Ana's Song hit me hard and helped me accept my situation and get some help. Over the years it's resonated more and more.
the first i heard was Frog Stomp when it came out. but Freak Show was the true peak of Silverchair .
1:57 That was the reason I liked them so much. Their music changed with every album, but so did I. They grew up and I grew up. And their every album came out at just the right time for me. ❤
We'd be all over a reunion tour!
I've been following them, and Daniels solo work since the beginning. One of my favourites and highly underrated ❤
Neon Ballroom was when Silverchair first hit my radar. But I love all their albums, sadly never saw them live, but would want to hear all the singles off each album! i.e. all their major hits❤️
its the pride of the band members that why they have not forgiven each other for the longest time. its all in the past, whatever quarrells you guys had, just forget it and make new music together, being in a band isnt just about music its like being with friends and that is what is special
Diohrama is a genius album, the finest Australian record. My favourite Silver Chair effort.
I also love a young Modern.
And most songs off the other three too.😍👍
Glad to see some love for Young Modern in this video. That's my favorite of their albums.
Cool video. Part about Daniel learning to coope with his deamons got me chills. Never seen them live, but I would be out of my mind to hear Miss You Love on reunion show.
The way this video presents feels like it might have been a paid video from Daniel Johns' management. If anyone wants the real story on what happened to Silverchair, read the new book 'Love and Pain' by Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou - the drummer and bassist, respectively. The video left the book out.
Agree completely this video treats Johns as the only creative part of Silverchair and the book "Love and Pain" tells a very different story. It was Johns who just walked away from his friends (Chris and Ben), the band and the fans and robbed us all of saying farewell to one of the greatest bands ever to come out of Australia.
Frogstomp was their only masterpiece. The raw emotion of these young men was there, and it was awesome. They peaked right off the bat.
I feel like you probably should’ve mentioned Chris’s health issues that he overcame too
I had no idea about that ! Seious health issues and all we heard about was Daniel all the time
I thoroughly enjoyed this video and I hope we can all appreciate it together. You are fantastic and I hope we have a great day. ❣️😊
Thank you so much! Have a great day/night!
Awesome!
I don't understand why a nirvana shirt was photoshopped on Daniel in the thumbnail? He was wearing a Ministry shirt I have the poster!
We had one of these in the uk but our child rock band was called Ash!
Neon ballroom and diorama are master class albums. Hard to believe they were writing beautiful songs like that at the age of 18-20. One of my all time favourite bands.
Those records were crap compared to their older stuff.
@@markusaurelius777 I disagree. Both of those albums were musically wise more mature than Frogstomp and Freakshow, while retaining some punch, but in the end I liked all of those four albums. With Young Modern I felt they were no longer evolving, but solely spinning around "Johns'-existential-crisis" on his "journey to become a legend". He wrote everything, he flew over his head, he could not cope with loss and the brutality of the world, as well as his own narcissistic tendencies, which clearly had friction with ben's demeanor. In the end he lost himself while running away from the way he should have walked, with his comrades having no chance to influence "his" work, resulting in a genuine musical piece of pop with no soul. And look what he put out after that - not only his appearance, but also his music reminds me of a wasted musical crackhead that completely lost his way. He can play and he can sing, but he is too afraid to feel and of truth, two ingredients that made Frogstomp and Freakshow so good, despite being technically inferior.
Young Modern was such a colossal disappointment to me and Silverchair died once Daniel started messing with electronic stuff. They filled a void left by Nirvana alongside Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, etc but once the heavier elements disappeared they just lost the magic. Frogstomp, Freak Show and Diorama are three of my all-time favourite albums and I can't really pick a favourite though if I had a gun to my head I'd probably say Freak Show because it had the edge and grit of Diorama but much better production.
Silverchair Rocked when it came out I was hooked to the group Frogstomp album was totally awesome!!
Frogstomp -pure raw angsty memories of my teenage years
Man Frogstomp and Freak Show would be the stuff I what to hear at a Reunion show.
Neon Ballroom and Diorama are my 2 faves
My favorite is Tomorrow! Still after all, it's so hard and true to life!
Young modern complete album is amazing.
Frogstomp is probably one of the best debut album from a band.
Freakshow goes deeper again and is really brilliant !
Then, their lost their ways...
Agree!

Once Paul Mac got involved, Daniel started to drift away from Silverchair.
My all time fave song is Straight Lines from Young Modern. I loved the first 2 records, was about 20 when Frogstomp came out.
Loved the 1st three albums the most, but all of them are great in their own respect
I’m very good friends with Danny I was happy this video gave him a better than fair shake
You didn't even mention The Australian Story controversy that happened a couple of months ago.
Frogstomp stayed in my discman in highschool for at least 5 months. Was one of my favortes and still is. The music Daniel made later wasnt to my taste, but I respect the guy for doing his thing. Some bands are short lived, but their albums will remain forever to enjoy!!
Well you got well over 200 likes, good video
This band changed my life!!
Freak Show was my fave as that was what I was into at the time.
Lie To Me ❤❤❤ energy 🔥
Your last question got me thinking. What sort of setlist could they do with so different songs? I too have loved their first 2 records more rock more genuine. But we can not not admit that the rest of their albums are not good. They are perfect, just not as original or as rock as we got to know them. Personally i would love to see them with a rock come back, def ben and chris would want that. Not sure about daniel though, who kind of still seems lost in his world. And yes of course the guy is a genius and hope he gets well above all. As a fan who has never seen them, i have hopes 🤘🏼🙏🏼
Daniel Johns is a amazing writer, Diorama is a masterpiece. Neo ballroom the kids grew up. Daniel furturenever is amazing.
I also like ffrogstomp and FreakShow, but the biggest impact for me was neon ballroom. It means a lot to me.
Such a great Australian band. We watched them grow up to make incredible music. I hope they become friends again

coming into this video id only heard blind from frogstomp but I can tell this is my new obsession
I was 11 years old and loved this band.
Freakshow was constantly in my CD player ❤ I had such a crush on Daniel!
Love Freakshow (Cemetery is my favorite song of thiers) & Frogstomp is a pretty solid album. I can't stand anything after that, unfortunately. It just all felt way too artsy for me.
Aussie legends!
As with most bands and especially of the grunge Era the first/earliest albums are raw and infused with virile potency. You missed mentioning also that John blew his vocal chords in Frogstomp and imparted a different direction for him/silverchair also.
Freak show no 1 for me
2.Neon ballroom
3.Diorama
4.frogstomp
5.last one😅
As they wrote more.....the writing suffered. Then they faded in to oblivion.
Def one of my fav bands until they weren’t . Diorama changed it all for me
I liked their style on Frogstomp the best, but I would say that Neon Ballroom was probably their best album. I only liked a couple of songs off the last two albums. I really didn't care for them. I'm not a big fan of keyboards and synthesizers. That takes me out of it.
🤘😎
After Freak Show they lost touch to the ground and thought they were some sort of super artists (especially Daniel). I see that it was all difficult for him but I never understood Neon Ballroom and Diorama. They are way too cheesy for me. It's a shame because their potential was huge. They should have went more metal.
Freak show is my go to and was peak fandom for me. But… Young Modern is probably the one I’m the most inclined to listen to these days.
8:30 i didnt know Daniel was marryed to Billy Corgan.
Daniel did stop creating music after the accident
Frogstomp is near perfect.
Silverchair are great. Wish they would do a renunion tour but one can dream. If they could play their old songs like tomorrow and pure massacre would be awesome. I can understand why they broke up though after getting famous so young must be alot to deal with.
Misleading, silverchair didnt fall, they just moved on to other things
Even knowing Daniel's eating disorder, I initially thought of erectile dysfunction when I heard "E.D."
I only like the first 2 albums a lot , then after that I don’t like the rest.
Bloodhound gang do a video on them
Frogstomp 100%
I appreciate all their work, but "Young Modern" summed them up and is their best album, songcraft-wise. I'm sure they know that.
Of course they felt Nirvana's influence. Everyone did, even even if you didn't like Nirvana the band. They evolved in a very credible way, considering. I think Johns couldn't help, as a superstar-frontman, get a little too into himself. It's unavoidable at that level, clearly.
FlaultLine🤔
Want to hear some New Grunge, check us out!
Diorama is a masterpiece
Nvr the same after freak show but i get why they tried to change grunge had died and more than likely they were steered in a new upbeat direction. However, i think their new sound failed to resonate with their core fan base. This is a topic iv discussed for hours with friends most agree their music got too feminine and lost the angst the band was known for.
Who’s the narrator? Sounds just like one of the lady’s I listen to on a local morning show as I drive to work
AI bullshit
Never heard of them??
great now you have 😇
He suffered from "ED" at the tender age of 17...
Gawd..!! Good lard.!!
Don't they have a pill for that now.?
Eating disorder.... specifically Anorexia Nervosa.
They obviously were not that good
They were a great band, their first 2 albums were awesome but they hit their peak with Neon Ballroom, that album was a masterpiece. Diorama definitely took some time for me to really appreciate but Young Modern was horrible, very disappointing. I really don’t get the direction that Danial apparently took that bad, for the worse, and it’s a real damn shame. If they stuck to writing great rock songs then they’d be about as big as the Foo Fighters, but much better (cuz overall they’ve written much better songs)! 😏
E.D. is NOT the short form for eating disorder haha. He had anorexia, not E.D..
It's commonly used in the eating disorder community.
Uhhh ED is definitely not short for Eating Disorder haha
It's commonly used in the Eating Disorder community as a short hand.
When you were saying "battle with ED" I thought you meant erectile dysfunction because of the way you said it. I realize now you meant an eating disorder.
How come you photoshopped dan to wear a nirvana shirt in the thumbnail
:)
After frogstomp i heard zero of the following albums .
I was too busy with everything else but tomorrow was and is an epic song
Diorama is not a good album it’s absolute filth and the abomination after that doesn’t even count as being an actual silverchair album
I reckon Frogstomp was the best. It was the most raw and heavy album. Freak show was good, neon ballroom was ok then I hated the rest and totally lost interest
Literally never knew they existed past that stupid frog album
Israel’s son was hard af!
Everything after Freakshow was garbage for me.
Industry plants 🌱
E.D.? AS A TEEN?!
I noticed it sounded like the narrator said E.D here which i thought was strange, as at that point in the video they are clearly talking about Daniel's battle with Anorexia.....maybe the narrator meant to say A.D I am not sure but I would assume so, it was well documented at the time the battle he had with Anorexia...no idea if he had issues getting it up lol
Eating disorder lol
I like the first 2 but they were kind of Nirvana copycats I'll agree. I haven't heard much of their other stuff but the electronic song I did hear wasn't as good as there earlier albums.
Those first 2 albums sound nothing like nirvana wth are you talking about the only song that sounds close is Lie to Me
Nirvana in Pyjamas.
I didnt liked Diorama....except maybe one song on it. freak Show was the best album. Everything after that, newer stuff was just ( Sorry) the biggest crap ever. But "The DIssociatives" also was good.
diorama isgenius
What a glowing narrative. Is that you mom? 😂
Bayot
Bald
Easy, they gave up on their fans. I'm sure it worked out well for at least one of them....
Years later. One of em became anurexic or some girly shit...
E.D.? Give me a bloody break...smh.. just say EATING DISORDER.. Really daft.. thumbs down on this just because of E.D.
Nirvana in Pyjamas
came here to see if someone said it, lol
