    Here's my replica of Daniel Johns' pedalboard for the Silverchair live concerts from Diorama. This pedalboard can also accommodate anything from the Neon Ballroom tour, and you can still do some live Freak Show, Frogstomp, and much of the Young Modern stuff with this setup too.
    Pedals:
    Micro Synth by Electro Harmonix
    Fuzz Factory by Z-Vex
    Octave OC-2 by Boss
    Graphic Equalizer GE-7 by Boss
    Tsunami Chorus by Rocktron
    Digital Delay DD-8 by Boss
    Chromatic Tuner TU-3 by Boss
    And although this video is about Dan's pedalboard, in case you want to know what other gear I am using in this video...
    Guitar: Fender Special-Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH Electric Guitar Black Cherry Burst

    Always cool to see people throwing it down on the Rocktron pedals. I've owned a few Zombies - I need to grab another, plus the random modulation pedals they made like the Tsunami and Hypnotic Flange

      Thanks! I love the Tsunami so much because it’s a unique type of chorus pedal with how big and loud it makes riffs sound (like a tsunami!). And then you get the second channel. Best chorus pedal ever.

    Very informative video, really enjoyed it. I have recently been working on Without You and creating a preset with my Line 6 Helix. Do you think the Fuzz, Octave, Synth or anything else was used on the studio version?

    • @thesilverchairfan
      @thesilverchairfan  5 месяцев назад +2

      @@clfnole I know in live settings he uses two Soldano amps - one for lighter rhythm stuff and another for high gain/heavy stuff. In studio for Diorama, I’m not sure. I know he had the Soldano there, but he was known to also try experimenting with other amps laying around the studio to get different tones. It’s hard to say for sure, but I think you’d be just fine as long as you have a low-gain overdrive and high-gain overdrive.

      On the album recording, I don't know. But on the NB tour he stacked the Rocktron Tsunami chorus on top of his overdrive, and on Diorama tour he used the Micro Synth and played single notes.

    How Much for all ?

    • @thesilverchairfan
      @thesilverchairfan  5 месяцев назад +4

      Just the pedals - $1,200. That’s not including the overdrive from the amp, the pedalboard itself, or the power supply. If you add those items in, it goes up to $2,500. And if you add in my guitar, the whole rig costs $3,500. This is all in US Dollars.
      That might sound like a lot, but Daniel’s guitar and amp setup is top-shelf merchandise. Just his amp, speaker cab, and any one of his main custom guitars alone could easily add another $15,000 USD.

    Where does your clean drive come from? I saw in another video that I can't find that maybe you could use a blues driver. Congratulations from brazil

    • @thesilverchairfan
      @thesilverchairfan  2 месяца назад +3

      I get my clean overdrive through my amp now. It has two overdrive channels. I put a little bit of dirt on channel one for my clean drive, and I push the overdrive harder on the second channel if I need to play heavy rock/metal riffs. I have a ‘boost’ option built into the amp if I want to thicken up the light overdrive some more - which is the main sound I use in my cover videos for Young Modern Station, Mind Reader, Low, and Ramble. That’s actually my favorite tone, because it is versatile for rhythm riffs that are a little crunchy, and the micro synth and fuzz factory sound killer on top of it. I don’t use my high overdrive very often unless I’m playing a super heavy riff. If you don’t have overdrive on your amp or you prefer pedals, I recommend the Boss Blues Driver for a low gain overdrive, a boost pedal of some kind such as a Tube Screamer, and a high overdrive pedal. Soldano actually makes a high overdrive pedal now that gets pretty close to the amp sound for the price, and Dan does use Soldano amps, so that will work. I took the first video down because I improved my gear and made this one instead. My amp is the EVH 5150 Iconic combo. It is freakin’ awesome for doing what a Soldano does and at a fraction of the price. Hope that helps!

      I had the opportunity to see Daniel playing in my city - Recife, when he came to Brazil in 2003. I love diorama album. Your explanation was really healpful! Actually I am trying to find some cheap pedals to get close to this sound, at least a cheap and good high gain pedal. Does Revv 3 or 4 gets closer to your high gain pedal?

    • @thesilverchairfan
      @thesilverchairfan  2 месяца назад +1

      @@tninelives I don’t know anything about the Revv 3 or 4. Also not sure if there’s any cheap overdrive pedals or good quality that get close to the tone you’re chasing. Ideally, you get the overdrive from a high gain tube amp. The one I use, the EVH 5150 combo, is a little under $1,000 USD. The next best thing I can think of would be the Soldano pedal which goes for close to $300 USD. All other decent overdrive pedals are going to run somewhere around that as well. The thing with overdrive pedals is they are trying to mimic a tube amp and it’s hard to pull that off as accurately as the real thing. Wish I had better advice here. I’d say do some research on some of the best overdrive pedals available and see if you can find one used/

      @thesilverchairfan  19 дней назад

      I explain in the video that the overdrive comes from the amp. No pedal can supersede the overdrive of a good tube amp. Dan also gets his overdrive from his amp. If you absolutely must use a pedal for overdrive, I recommend the Soldano pedal as it imitates the overdrive of Dan’s amp.
