    Listening to this, I think I'd personally avoid 3rds as a shift. Noting the singer - great voice by the way! - sings a flat 6th in the first phrase, which when paired with its 3rd sounds very weird?
    That aside, this is another great show n tell Kenny: thank you for all my video-based DAW training! 😁👍✌

    • @brianholtzmusicsound
      @brianholtzmusicsound 2 года назад +2

      Reaper does not account for a specific scale when harmonizing a given note and just adds a parallel interval. Diatonic harmony includes major and minor intervals so Reaper gives you some modal sounding stuff which could be useful in other than traditional harmonizing duties.

    Thanks for another really helpful video, Kenny.
    I had played with the formant shift stuff before, but never really got results I was happy wtih. Turns out I was doing it backwards, moving the formant the same direction as the shift. Doing it "opposite" like you did here sounds way better!
    I also really like the sound of putting in multiple shifters offest by a few cents. I was aware of doing similar to fatten up keys parts, but I never tried it on vox before. I bet that would sound really fat if you used parameter modulation to keep the detuning effect moving.

    Hello guys! Can anyone help me? I've been facing some delay in ReaPitch while recording. The thing is: I'm supposed to play in original tone first, then applying pitch or there's a way I can play while dropped?

  • @Dev1nci
    @Dev1nci 5 лет назад +7

    1:42 there is a lot of 'bouncing' after the pitch shift. I'm seeing that when I use it too. VDJ shifts much better than Reaper (not that VDJ is a DAW though). I find that you have to jump through hoops to make things sound good on Reaper because the FX don't give a very clear sound.

    Thanks Kenny. Great vid as always. I'm keen to know what can be done to remove the warbling that's introduced by the shifting. It's very noticeable, probably a little less so when you switched to the Elastique algorithm, but still present and audible even when used subtly.
    Also, thinking out loud, might the harmonies sound more natural if multiple instances of ReaVoice were used but with each one delayed slightly and differently to vary the timing? Might give that a try...

    • @knumbugs

      If you wanted a more natural sound you would record separate harmony vocals in the first place

    I really enjoyed your tutorial and it's very helpful getting around Reaper since I'm fairly new at it. One question how come the clip/item doesn't change length accordingly since you are changing the pitch and not time stretching? like for example in ableton when you turn the pitch knob it gives you a visual representation on how short or long the clip is in the sequencer. Thanks in advance.

  • @jlewwis1995

    This is very similar to Reavoice. It looks basically just like a version of Reavoice that works without midi :/

    • @mjstecyk
      @mjstecyk 7 лет назад +3

      it is similar, they seem to use the exact same algorithms in the DSP to create the effect but they controls are way different, reapitch is more optimized for producing and post production. reavoice is more like a sampler or vocoder, with controls oriented towards midi controllers.
      great video kenny!

    • @REAPERMania

  • @gxxxpxxx3152
    @gxxxpxxx3152 7 лет назад

    What is cent in regards to semitones?

    • @REAPERMania
      @REAPERMania  7 лет назад +4

      The cent is a logarithmic unit of measure used for musical intervals. Twelve-tone equal temperament divides the octave into 12 semitones of 100 cents each. Typically, cents are used to express small intervals, or to compare the sizes of comparable intervals in different tuning systems, and in fact the interval of one cent is too small to be heard between successive notes.
