      @@tylerssoul I agree. I've used Melodyne before and found that while its interface is unbeatable, I can hear the plugin working a lot more than ReaTune, and I hate that boxy roboticised tone it puts underneath the vocal. It seems much less apparent in ReaTune!
      I'll have to keep on with it for a while to ensure I don't just have a case of 'fun new thing' syndrome, but I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking with it!

    In case anyone has this problem, I have had the "sizzle" issue with ReaTune, but I noticed something with Freeze in this tutorial! When Kenny played it in real time with manual or auto correction (6:09), it did the sizzle on the s of "horse" making it buzz like "horzze". BUT when he did the Freeze track and rendered it offline, he played it back (7:01) and it didn't do the sizzle/buzz! When he unfroze and played again (7:26) it was back! I haven't tried comparing it myself yet, but maybe the Freeze/Offline Render fixes the sizzle? I'm guessing the CPU doesn't like correcting it and playing back all at the same time, so my new approach will be to do all my correction and then Freeze. Without the buzz, this plugin could be perfect! And, thank you, Kenny, for these tutorials. You totally rock.

    I had to use this effect to fix a slide guitar part on a blues tune. I selected the key as Kenny did, then selected the additional blue notes I needed (the tune was in E, I needed G and Bb). Then follow the same manual tuning process, and the lead track wound up sounding great. Just tweak the start and end points of the corrections for a little "slide into the note feeling". Great plug-in, and great explanation. I love this channel.

    One of your tutorials taught me to add buttons to media items, so I added the "E" (envelope) button. Now my go-to pitch correction tool is the pitch envelope for certain media items. Of course, compared to ReaTune, it lacks some of the visual representation, but personally that's not a big loss for me, and it's also perfect for tracks that need pitch correcting in just a few places.
    Also, I'll definitely have to use the freeze track function more often. Thanks, once again! Best Reaper tutorials out there!

    • @RobertGrayMusic
      @RobertGrayMusic 2 года назад

      Pitch envelope is also better in that it doesn't snap to exact pitches - sounds more natural than 100% autotuned, like with the auto version of Reatune.

      I think the fancy versions of Melodyne have polyphonic pitch tracking. So, for example, if you have an acoustic guitar performance with one string out of tune you could in theory just tune that one string in the plugin.

  • @tracyblair3064

    Kenny - I am posting this suggestion here as it concerns pitch correction. Recently I have started moving away from using plugins for pitch correction and have begun relying on Reaper's take-based pitch envelope for this purpose. I find that it is much easier to get natural-sounding vocals with this method than when using REATune or other pitch correction software, whether in automatic or manual mode. You may want to consider doing a video on this feature. As always, your efforts are appreciated!

  • @boldbearStudios
    @boldbearStudios 7 лет назад +26

    Thanks Kenny, pretty good explanation!
    I'm also using ReaTune from time to time and what I've recognized occasionally is some sort of sizzling or distortion artifact on consonants in certain cases. I guess it's best when the plugin doesn't affect "S" or "SH" consonants. Sometimes you have to readjust the end of the blue line until the result sounds artifact-free.
    In the video you can hear the effect at 6:09 on "horSe" (compared to "horse" at 2:39).
    What's your opinion?

      yes, when changing the pitch of an "sss" or "shh" it may come out sounding unnatural in any tuning software. the only true workaround I know of is to replace that "sss" with the one from the original (not tuned) version of the vocal. it takes time if there are a lot these in the song, but if you're after a clean sounding result thats what it takes
