Great reaction - and you are absolutely right about their live performance videos being better than the studio recordings, but being at the live show yourself is something else again. Even the best videos don't quite prepare you for Su's vocals when you hear her in person. She is so powerful it is almost breath taking and her voice just cuts through or rises above even the Kami Band playing hard (they weren't in this video unfortunately, but you got Su's natural vocals minus the over-processing and whatever effects they add of the studio recording and you got the crowd following Yui's and Moa's lead). When they first started supporting BABYMETAL BOH, the bassist, has said they were given just one instruction something along the lines of: "Don't hold back because they are Idols. Don't hold back because they are girls. Play as hard and as loud as you can." In my time I saw some of the recognised great live bands in their prime (eg Led Zeppelin, Queen and many more). I think the most fun I had at a concert was Anthrax supported by Metal Church (a real favourite band of mine at the time) ... and then I saw BABYMETAL in Brixton, London in 2019 and it came really close. Some months later early in 2020 they were back and playing at the Hammersmith Apollo, scene of the Anthrax and Metal Church concert - and BABYMETAL completely took over my number one spots for both my favourite and the most fun ever concert I've been to. The sound engineer is a genius. Right from the start the sound just hits you like an immense wall of noise, but unlike some concerts I went to that were so loud I could hardly make out any actual notes and it was just really loud and painful, BABYMETAL somehow had it both ridiculously loud and incredibly clear at the same time and Su's vocals don't just go for your ears, it is like your entire body just absorbs wave after wave of her voice.
Nice one. One of my favourite performances of one of my favourite songs. Even with the BabyBones band the crowd add soooo much. Ijime, Dame, Zettai should be the next one. There is a great Music Video that you could check out first, but then there is an even greater live performance from Sonisphere in England from 2014. It is another track from their first album and the Sonisphere performance was their first major appearance outside Asia in front of 50-60,000 metal festival goers, most of who had never even heard of them. This is the last song of a 30 minute set and you can hear the crowd at the end wanting more. BTW, IDZ is an Anti-Bullying song.
Great reaction. The persons in skeleton-suits are not a real band, just actors but in this show the Kami-band played the 5 song encore and have been their backing band in all their shows since that. This one is the one Su-metal uses in soundchecks before a show to check her voice condition. There is verse that was Su-metal's favorite when this song came out: "Ah, girls are becoming more like an ideal woman. Smiling at face, crying at heart, saying "It's right", we never show our tears." Next one - Rondo of Nightmare (with Miscief of Gods-intro) so you can semore of the Kami-band. It's Su-metal solo. Kitsune up 🤘🦊🤘/4
It will be really interesting to see how much bigger Babymetal will have become after a year plus of global shutdown in live events and concerts. From the time I followed them closesly (summer 2019), these last maybe six months were when I have come across over 90%+ of reactors - across all sorts of demographics, be it old school metal heads, young girls, adult women, greying men, mide-aged couples, you name it..practically anyone who have never heard of them before putting them on top of their must-watch live bucket list. Geeez, and one would think it was already hard to get their tix in the big arena shows, especially in Japan. How would this be wit all of us dying to see their big concerts once they go back on tour?!
I've seen non-metalhead young teen girls who were brought by their mom to a metal festival to see Babymetal. They looked slightly out of place at the metal festival. :-)
@@10Shun honestly I'm not even sure how to not fit in. Because it seems pretty easy to me to fit in: just wear a black shirt and jeams (for example Babymetal shirt) :-) Do you wear bright colors ?
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ I don't think I've seen a bad live version of this song. It's heavier with the Kami Band backing them up, but this one was still high energy and a lot of fun. We've mentioned it in comments before, but this song has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song. It consistently tops fan polls for favorite song. I'm glad you saw the music video first. That way you can appreciate the forward kick at the live show. It's at the same part of the song where Su pulls the tanto (short blade) from her microphone in the music video. "Otome wa… nametara ikan zeyo." ("Maidens… should not be underestimated.")
He said in his studio version reaction: "it's like a metal ballad." If he also does the Legend 1997 unfinished version he'll see how much of a ballad it is. :-)
To be fair, when talking about the live sound quality, it should be noted that in those early performances (with the skeleton band called BABYBONES) the only part of the music that was performed live were the vocals. But the real live band following shortly after certainly didn’t fall behind. But the sound is not the only thing that makes their live shows so much better. The stage designs, the girls’ stage presence, the crowd‘s passion and especially the dancing add so much to the entertainment value, it‘s hard to imagine how we could ever do without those.
There are people disagreeing with you watching some BM ? Too bad... Who gives a damn. If you don't like it, move along... I'm a 33 years old metalhead and I enjoy myself watching new people discover their great music/artistry. Period. ;)
Great reaction and in this show, Legend 1997 (1997 is SU's birth year but this show was Dec. 2013, the day after SU's 16th birthday). The first part of the show used studio recordings, the "band" are dancers (called babybones) that mimic playing the instruments, but the vocals are still live with SU's voice. The closing of the show featured the Kami band for the last five songs and was the last time they used that format and they have since always used the live Kami band.
There were a few more Babybones appearances after this in 2013 and 2014, such as 'LIVE IN SINGAPORE' (their first solo show overseas), some TV appearances, and their "Two Man Show" with ChthoniC in Taiwan. The Kami Band were introduced back in October 2012 at 'Legend I' with a two song encore of 'Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!' and 'Ijime Dame Zettai'. Folks are often surprised how long the Baby Bones and Kami Band overlapped.
Folks and this is why YUI-CHAN the TOMATO PRINCESS is missed so much!!! This should not work (CUTE= KAWAII+METAL= BABYMETAL ) but it does nicely. Welcome to the journey that is BABYMETAL, ENJOY THE RIDE..... If you ever get a chance to see them live ( DO IT ) you wont be sorry!!!
I really like how you are approaching this. Keep watching the studio version/MV first and then follow up with the live version. That pattern really works! When searching for live versions, though, be careful to avoid the compilation/fan cam videos that are out there. Nothing wrong with them, but not the best for a first experience viewing. The Legend 1997 concert live videos like you've done so far are perfect for most of these classic BM performances. I can't wait until you get to Headbanger!
Great reaction, again. Thanks! I'm so jealous. I'd like to be again at the point you are now. Your BABYMETAL journey is gonna be awesome! Okay, I'm picky. This was not a fully "live" performance since the Kami Band wasn't there yet that night. They came out for the five songs encore... okay four... "Akatsuki" unfinished doesn't count. But I promise that Su's vocals, the choreo, and the crowd were totally real hehe... So I recommend you to check out the Budokan Black Night 2014 footage from now on for live performances :) Until next time!

Seen them live and I can answer your question how it is when you're there: It's a solid wall of sound crashing into you like a cute but very determined freight train.
I have seen them live 3 times and agree 100% this is a band meant to be seen and heard live. Those around them have said Su just lifts herself to a whole different level when on stage, and her and Moa really can and do give 200% - they go full on, full energy for the full show. But the shows you want to catch are the arena ones - those have insane staging sets (the opening of Legend S is something that needs to be seen to be believed). They do SHOWS!
How about a different show this time? From the Budokan in 2014, "Akatsuki", or "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischief of Metal Gods intro, or "Catch me if you can", or "Song 4/4 no uta" :D Btw I think that their official MV are really good, so you could do a MV vs live, but when you simply listen to the studio version, always go for the live one instead ahahah
BABYMETAL is definitely a good live band. But I think we can enter from anything of theirs. This song has a good MV, too. Outside, MV is also good for Karate or Doki doki morning of the debut song. Please react to them. Thank you from Japan.
I've found that most Japanese bands sound better live for some reason -- Babymetal, Band-Maid, Wagakki Band, Ningen Isu and Lovebites all have very skilled musicians and put on epicAF live performances but (and this is obviously just my opinion!) I don't get the same feeling of meticulously performed energetic playing as when I see them live. Any song from he Legend 97 concert is brilliant...as are all their live performances! They were the last band I got to see live before the Earth shut down, back in Feb 2020, and even in a small venue (2000 standing only) with nothing but a projection screen behind them, they performed 12 songs in an hour and killed every one of them. Loving your reactions and enthusiasm for Babymetal, whether live or audio...though obviously the live is more fun! 🦊🤘🦊🤘🦊
The vocals sound better because Su is 16 and not 13 or 14 like when the track was recorded. She sounds better every year because her voice gets more mature. She's only 23 now it won't be fully mature for another 5 years or so. Also Su is a live performer. That has always been her thing. Su says she 'is addicted to performing' There are videos on RUclips of her doing live solos for an audience as young as 8. Lots of them.
The girls are obviously tired in this part of the concert, it's the 7th song without rest so what you saw is su's not full potential, consider that she is dancing too.
.....the reason why i love Babymetal sooooo much is.......they give me the feeling back when i was a 14 year old boy and hear the first time the metal music that i do listening the rest of my live................
This is only kinda live… the instrumentation is canned. It’s “better” than the studio because of the stage presence of Su Moa and Yui… and also because of the support that they get from the people behind the scene. Anyway, I’ve been enjoying your reactions to the studio albums. I hope to see BABYMETAL live sometime… and that for sure will be the best. But for me anyway, watching a live is far different from actually being at the performance.
Whilst you are absolutely correct, the BabyBones (guys in the skeleton costumes) only mimicking the instruments and the sound is actually a backtrack, it still sounds different than the studio version in my opinion. Somehow fuller and more powerful in a way.

.....the reason why i love Babymetal sooooo much is.......they give me the feeling back when i was a 14 year old boy and hear the first time the metal music that i do listening the rest of my live................
My I suggest: F.Hero x Bodyslam x BabyMetal - Leave It All Behind (Official Video) - Brand new song.. and has subtitles! ;)
Studio version reaction + live version reaction are best.🙂
Yes!

Always react to Babymetal live.

Babymetal Karate official video
There are many funny stories about mask and Moa.XDD
babymetal live version is better than music video
Some Japanese bands. Take your pick: BAND-MAID [All their songs... really!], LOVEBITES [Raise some Hell, and all the other songs], MAXIMUM THE HORMONE [Yoshu Fukushu], CROSSFAITH [Catastrophe], SiM [Killing Me], NINGEN ISU [Heartless Scat], UNLUCKY MORPHEUS [Black Pentagram], YOUSEI TEIKOKU [Astral Dogma], COLDRAIN [Die Tomorrow], CRYSTAL LAKE [The Circle], GIVEN BY THE FLAMES [Ronove], ANGRY FROG REBIRTH [2Step Syndrome], SILENTLY SHOOTING TRAITORS [Manipulate], ALDIOUS [Dominator], BRIDEAR [Light in the Dark], CINQ ELEMENT [Destiny], MARY'S BLOOD [Marionette], GRAUPEL [Bereavement], DOLL$BOXX [Take my Chance], SOKONINAR [Tenohira De Odoru], HELLO SLEEPWALKERS [Flying Saucer], TELECiDE [Tied up Memories], NEKO [Ghost on a Record], ROTTENGRAFFTY [Hallelujah], LYNCH [Devil], DIR EN GREY [Ningen wo Kaburu], X JAPAN [Kurenai], DAZZLE VISION [Second], JUPITER [My Enemy], GALNERYUS [Angel of Salvation], BLOOD STAIN CHILD [Del-Sol], NEMOPHILA [Dissension], DADAROMA [Lucid Dream], DEXCORE [Self Hatred], HANABIE [We Love Sweets], and many many more...
The plain truth is every band has its haters. After a while you just block it out. No one should tell someone else what to like or not like.
Great reaction amigo
You should go to
HEADBANGER LEGEND 1997
Next it is insane
Love ❤️ your reactions so far
Soooooo, when will you be checking out the MV of this? it's definitely worth a look. Not sure about you, but a little Japanese girl sing "kitsune, kitsune, watashima Megitsune" sounds a lot creepier than anything Freddy Kruger can come up with.... just saying. 😏🤘🦊🤘
he said in the video he watched the MV already
@@stormgr3n Oops, missed that. thnx
I think it’s time to move on to another concert, maybe the budokan red and black night performances are better, not all the reactions need to be from 1997 concert, u should give an opportunity to the other huge concerts 🦊
Live is better than the studio because the studio versions are over produced. Live is raw and hard and just punches you in the face.
Oh this show is very early BABYMETAL and you need to move on a bit - to Budokan shows. Perhaps a Su solo - Akatsuki (note the u is silent so is pronounced AK-AT-SKI).
