When you asked "what did she say", she basically said "Don't underestimate us", speaking on behalf of Japanese women. The song itself is basically a song about female power. Behind the pretty made up faces are badass women. :)
it's a very idiomatic/slang expression, so i really like the "translation" given in one of the other comments: "fuck around and find out" lol. grammatically, "maidens/young women" is not the subject of the sentence, so every "translation" that treats them as the subject is inaccurate in that sense (and also causes confusion about the source film, where the expression had nothing to do with women as a class). but the problem of course is that the part of speech used in the japanese does not exist at all in english.
Excellent reaction and thanks for trying at least to do a live and the official video. You were pretty much spot on with what you thought the song was about, so I think you got most of this already, but I'll put it all here anyway, just in case there is anything more you needed confirming. 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for their favourite song and has been played live more than any of their songs. This is really a female empowerment song. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks were so prominent in the video) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are actresses and megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). This is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo.
In the original "gangster movie" the word "otome" ("maiden") is not spoken. "Otome" was added by Babymetal. The film was "Kiryuin Hanako no Shogai" (鬼龍院花子の生涯, 1982).
Fun fact:they were even younger in this video. Main singer 15 and the other two were 13. So you can definitely feel the talent. Its almost impossible to imagine, that at the age of 15 somebody has the skill and talent to sing that beautifully, rule the stage, not to mention dance skills. These girls are the living example that that is possible
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ [MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really. [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs) (Megitsune video commentary from the BABYMETAL members) Su was 15. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Thanks for reacting to this one. Megitsune is my jam. It's still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. Definitely quintessential BABYMETAL and their most Japanese song. You could even call this Kawaii Festival Metal, or Kawaii Wa Metal. BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was satisfied with it. This one consistently tops fan polls, and has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song. Much of the video was shot on location on a Noh stage by the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has since become something of a pilgrimmage site for BABYMETAL fans.
To me this is the ultimate BABYMETAL song (but I do love all their songs), it has everything; it's heavy, it's kawaii, it's very japanese, has great meaningful lyrics, fantastic MV and it's a banger and just awesome live! And oh....SUMETAL is the Queen! Glad you did both...and yes, it's a masterpiece! I really liked your reaction and you were pretty spot on in your analysis.
So, the whole lyric is: 乙女は なめたらいかんぜよ (otome ha(wa) nametara ikanzeyo) 乙女 = otome = maiden/Female Virgin. は = written as ha but spoken as "wa" as a topic marker for the sentence. なめたら -> nametara = if you underestimate. Nametara is the word nameru and tara. Nameru how it's written is meant to say underestimate or look down upon. Tara is a conditional conjugation form. いかん -> ikan = meaning something that isn't good or "is bad". ぜよ -> zeyo = is technically two ending sentence structures that are put together to have a "Yanki" effect or "Delinquent/Gangster" sounding effect. 乙女は なめたらいかんぜよ- > otome ha nametara ikanzeyo -> Maiden, if you underestimate, it would be regrettable. which is basically saying, "If you underestimate a Maiden, you'll regret it.". This phrase comes from a famous Japanese movie. Which Said Masako Natsume's character in the 1982 yakuza film "Onimasa". (More info on this last sentence can be pulled from the wiki page on this song.)

Gotta agree with the k-pop toxicity, but I'm not saying it in general because I still know proper ones. But when you look at the fanbase in general, the ones that are being showcased are the toxic ones, leaving the good ones under. I usually see these fans pretending to be good and nice but can't tolerate even the slightest criticisms (constructive) and tend to go ape shit just because someone does not like k-pop. I stopped listening to it due to that lmfao. Toxic as shit
Great Su said maidens..........are not to be underestimated when when she showed the blade . Speaking of the mic blade I saw it first it’s mine lol . Next you should do Sis anger by black BABYMETAL which is just Yui and Moa. It’s their most brutal song.

Great reaction, thanks! And good job doing both live performance and music video. I also believe that the official mv is a masterpiece. Just a word of advice: their record company Amuse, doesn't really like it if you make a full screen reaction using one of their videos. They even personally sent an email to a reactor saying they won't allow him to use official MV if they have it full screen... They ask that the video is smaller than yourself! As your next reaction, since you seem to like the changes in styles, how about their 2nd ever MV released? Try "Iine" (note that's a capital i and not an L :D)
Amuse. Possibly the most inappropriate brand name ever. Wtf are they thinking? Let's limit marketing and publicity as much as possible; that's going to increase revenue surly?
For the records, on this song, when Su-Metal is facing Moametal with the kitsune mask on her face, Moa is always trying to make her laugh, it sometime works but Su's never let it show once she drops the mask. Always in this song, on a show at Montreal, when Su-Metal throw the mask away, the wind flew it back on Moametal who not only continue dancing like nothing happens but she sweeped it away while including it in the choregraphy.
The hand-sign they use constantly is referred to as the KITSUNE, it supplants the "Moloch" or "Devil's horns" used in normal metal and is in reverence of the FoxGod. "The One" is #notacult. You should definitely check out BABYMETAL DEATH - Legend 1997 Kitsune Dao!
SU is running on a treadmill for hours and singer at the same time talk about stamina. Tha two outher Moa and Yui have also great stamina. Love your. Reaction. Love from Sweden ❤❤❤
babymetal's live band is absolutely PHENOMENAL by the way!! they're the Kami Band (literally the "God band" lmao)if you wanna see them properly spotlighted, check out rondo of nightmare live at budokan!!! other than that, road of resistance live is fantastic (su-metal opens the pit in just.... the most incredible way), and Pa Pa Ya live is probably the best representation of what their performances are like in the current era of babymetal!! RoR and Pa Pa Ya live are both officially on the babymetal youtube channel🔥🔥 I hope their music brings you much joy~~🤘🦊
You had some very interesting thoughts here brother, you reminded me of a George Orwell quote 'give a man a mask and he will show you himself' Corey Taylor has similar thoughts about the masks in Slipknot, its a way to reveal what is hidden underneath Great song and a very energetic band, powerful voice Skål
Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。You said "this song had several styles". Su-Metal made a similar statement. In a recent interview she said (1) This song is mixture of various elements ; very fast but smooth, hard but beautiful etc. (2) Because it includes necessary factors for singing in a well-balanced manner, "Megitsune" is her tuning song. So she always sings this song in rehearsal to confirm her vocal condition. Su actually said "in a sense, it is a song of criterion for me". (source : Tokion Vol.7 2020-12-24) If you call yourself Viking, please react to "Oh! Majinai", a song collaborating with Joakim Broden.
Thanks for this reaction ! Well, that was the first time I've seen something from teenwolf. Judging by the names something went wrong ? Because a fox and a wolf aren't the same thing ? Yes, all that was right. Like at 8:59 the mythology of the fox in Japan, etc. and thus Megitsune references that. Very good. In the MV you got a bit off-track :-)
You can do the norms like Headbanger, Rondo of Nightmare(Su solo), BMC, or Road of Resistance. I honestly prefer some of the lesser reacted to songs like, Yava, Syncopation, Shine, and From Dusk Till Dawn (no good live footage since it was only performed live once ever), or my favorite Su solo song Amore.
From Dusk Till Dawn was actually performed second time in the Budokan shows this year so we will finally get a pro shot video of it when they release the blu rays for those shows.
Another nice BM react. I’ve been lucky enough to have been in their audience seven times to see them live. Yes the song is saying a message. They’re saying basically “we are strong women and we’re here”. Nametara ikan zeyo is what she says and that means “I am woman. Do not underestimate me”. The “nursery rhyme” you mention is actually a famous Japanese folk song called Sakura Sakura which means cherry blossom. The choreography at that point mimics the geisha dance.
SuMetal said _"Nametara ikan zeyo"_ wich means "Maidens shouldn't be understimated", is a phrase line coming from a japanese movie, many saids the line is from the daughter of a mob boss ready to kill some enemy. And yes this song is about kitsune or better yet megitsune (female vixen), women who hides their real feelings but showing a smile to everyone wich leads to them thinking they're deceiving like a kitsune (fox) when in reality is just the nature of women wearing makeup and look beautiful to everybody despite any feelings. Anyway this is the only song i always recommend watch official MV and not the Legend 1997 live version, instead the Budokan live version for me is better to appreciate the real SuMetal voice because i'm afraid to said that Legend 1997 is a playback track. So cool you managed to upload it either way. See you on the next one and nice pony tails lol \m/
Only the background music is playback at Legend 1997 not the girls voices (well, except for Headbanger Remix of course). And obviously those songs played by the Kami band are actual instruments. :-)
@@autohmae thanks my friend, sometimes hearing the difference between SuMetal very young and older young voices back and forth confuses me a little bit ._. \m/
_the line is from the daughter of a mob boss ready to kill some enemy_ The movie is called Onimasa internationally and yes it is said - practically shouted - by the adopted daughter of a mob boss at a dramatic, climactic moment in the film (but she's not killing anyone).
If you want to see a BABYMETAL live performance that will blow your mind, take a look at " BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL) " Performed at Saitama Super Arena in Japan - 20,000 people sold out show! The song is a collaboration with the band "Dragonforce", so you can expect some serious shredding on all instrument levels. CHEERS!
You are on the edge of the Foxhole.... one more song and you will have no choice but to dive in....Queen Su, has to one of the most driven singers in any band. She never messes up. And Yui and Moa always kill it. Great reactions sir.
The death glares and serious looks come natural to Su. That is the natural stage presence she has always had. There is video of her performing at age 8 and it's a little bit different but you can see it. There is intense social pressure in Japan and i feel like this helps their celebrities. They don't get too full of themselves. She seems like a normal Japanese girl when she's not performing. They all do. You really need to see the music video for this. It's great. Next you should do 'BxMxC' it's their newest music video and it's awesome.
Nemophila did a cover of this song and I highly recommend you react to their version as it is pretty amazing :D Nemophila also have a bunch of original songs and they are all so good. I'm very sure you would like them.
You have to see Rondo of Nightmare, you'll see some more of the band! ruclips.net/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/видео.html Also "Death" will blow your mind! ruclips.net/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/видео.html Babymetal are amazing
Don’t know if anyone stated this but the band isn’t really playing on stage they’re mimicking it’s a backing track playing this was before they had the kami band
Good reaction again man 🤘 Megitsune song never get old, everyday i listen BABYMETAL song. Next, please reaction BABYMETAL - Rondo of Nighmare Live at Budokan Black Night, becuse i very like your video. Just subscribed ✔️
Megitsune (in English "vixen") is one of Babymetal's female empowerment songs and when they sing it in front of all female audiences it's amazing. The lyrics compare women to female foxes. In Japan foxes are known as shape shifters (many cultures think of them as being clever and sly creatures) and the lyrics say that women often have to hide their true feelings and change the face they show to the world, not in a sly way, but for the benefit of others even if they are crying inside. The opening and the breakdown is a traditional Japanese tune "Sakura, Sakura" or "Cherry Blossom, Cherry Blossom", but Su sings "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox). This might indicate that the girls are moving on from from their former selves as Sakura Gakuin school girls. So in the music, lyrics and also in the dance, Japanese traditions and traditional attitudes to women are subverted. The peak of this comes when Su shouts "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" or "Maidens should not be underestimated" and in the video threateningly draws a knife from her microphone or in this concert does a front kick. Foxes are also associated with Inari, the Japanese god of rice, abundance and now also material success in business. I think linking the "Fox God" to Babymetal is their producer Kobametal having a bit of a joke and what better mascot for a commercial venture. Babymetal is very much a collaboration between a large staff of people, writers, their producer Kobametal, the Kami Band and the girls. The project definitely has artistic depth and isn't simple J-pop tunes which is made very obvious with songs like "Tales of the Destinies". I think the girls get involved in the choreography and Su gives notes on the songs, but they are the performing force more than the creative force.
Megitsune is a fox (vixen) a Japanese folklore tells that foxes can change into anything and deceive people. ( Think we call it a trixter that use it's beauty to deceive a person.) So a man who was deceived by a (charming) woman feels feels like deceived by a vixen and calls her "megitsune" ;)
Now react to Nemophila cover of this song please. Nemo is a super group that does covers every 2 weeks I think? They are starting to put out original songs now. Saki the famous guitarist is a huge BM fan and Mayu does the pig squell/growls. Su-Metal quotes a famous YAKUZA movie line about not underestimating maidens. They are chosen by the Fox God to save Metal. They are young vixens and in Japanese lore and mythology they can have qualities of Loki I think. All just opinions, except to say, Welcome to the Foxhole. Snorri Utred and Eric the Red live.
When you asked "what did she say", she basically said "Don't underestimate us", speaking on behalf of Japanese women. The song itself is basically a song about female power. Behind the pretty made up faces are badass women. :)
"Underestimate maidens at your peril."
it's a very idiomatic/slang expression, so i really like the "translation" given in one of the other comments: "fuck around and find out" lol.
grammatically, "maidens/young women" is not the subject of the sentence, so every "translation" that treats them as the subject is inaccurate in that sense (and also causes confusion about the source film, where the expression had nothing to do with women as a class). but the problem of course is that the part of speech used in the japanese does not exist at all in english.
Name tara i kanzeyo

The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).

So, the whole lyric is: 乙女は
なめたらいかんぜよ (otome ha(wa) nametara ikanzeyo)
乙女 = otome = maiden/Female Virgin.
乙女は
なめたらいかんぜよ- > otome ha nametara ikanzeyo -> Maiden, if you underestimate, it would be regrettable. which is basically saying, "If you underestimate a Maiden, you'll regret it.".

RoR and Pa Pa Ya live are both officially on the babymetal youtube channel🔥🔥
I hope their music brings you much joy~~🤘🦊
absolutely amazing and wonderful song thanks for this reaction please more Babymetal pls 💞🌺🌺🌺
You had some very interesting thoughts here brother, you reminded me of a George Orwell quote 'give a man a mask and he will show you himself' Corey Taylor has similar thoughts about the masks in Slipknot, its a way to reveal what is hidden underneath
Great song and a very energetic band, powerful voice
Skål
11:24 You, me and thousands of Kitsunes around the world alike xD :P
Nice & thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。You said "this song had several styles". Su-Metal made a similar statement. In a recent interview she said (1) This song is mixture of various elements ; very fast but smooth, hard but beautiful etc. (2) Because it includes necessary factors for singing in a well-balanced manner, "Megitsune" is her tuning song. So she always sings this song in rehearsal to confirm her vocal condition. Su actually said "in a sense, it is a song of criterion for me". (source : Tokion Vol.7 2020-12-24)
If you call yourself Viking, please react to "Oh! Majinai", a song collaborating with Joakim Broden.
Sadly I only know fancam-videos from the song. But it's one hell of a song and again totally different than anything else from Babymetal.
'shouldn't be underestimated!' 👍
You made me laugh twice already we're only two and a half minutes into this video Darn I got to subscribe
Haha, no the shows name is about a teen were wolf. The character in the clip is a Kitsune and one of his best friends ;)
@@VikingReacts Ahh, I see ! Thanks,
It sounds like war music...when you are about to fight against the evil guys.
@@Tyyppl hell yea! Finally!!!
Awadama Fever!
Syncopation is one of the best in my opinion! Long time fan.. search "syncopation 2set"
" Nametaka ikanzeyo!! "
"There's so many style in this song!". That's Babymetal
So Viking reaction to Babymetal, Huh? Maybe reacting to "Oh, Majinai!" will be good
That needs to happen!
Also checkout fear and loathing in Las Vegas
_the line is from the daughter of a mob boss ready to kill some enemy_
The movie is called Onimasa internationally and yes it is said - practically shouted - by the adopted daughter of a mob boss at a dramatic, climactic moment in the film (but she's not killing anyone).
🤘😊🤘
Next video: Me making dagger mic.
The breakdown is a cover of _Sakura Sakura._
8:28 best part of the vid 😂😂😂 and the normal reaction to BM
🤘🏻🦊🤘🏻
Sherman, set the way-back machine to November 2012 and bring up "Babymetal - Doki Doki Morning" and let's see how this phenomenon started.
If you want to see a BABYMETAL live performance that will blow your mind, take a look at " BABYMETAL - Road of Resistance - Live in Japan (OFFICIAL) "
Performed at Saitama Super Arena in Japan - 20,000 people sold out show!
The song is a collaboration with the band "Dragonforce", so you can expect some serious shredding on all instrument levels.
CHEERS!
First time hearing of this band , not bad also give me vibes to that one song, bad apple i think
Yessss BabyMetal reaction!!! Once you listen to bm you will never escape! You should do catch me if you can, next also live Loved the pigtails!😍😍
They have a couple of viking songs. React to Babymetal death live. There is one where they "Sacrifice" Su
You are on the edge of the Foxhole.... one more song and you will have no choice but to dive in....Queen Su, has to one of the most driven singers in any band. She never messes up. And Yui and Moa always kill it. Great reactions sir.
waiting for your next reaction to baby metal. there are still many great songs in their repertoire.
"Fuck yeah"
Well said...

I'm glad you're interested in Japan.
Please continue their reaction!
It's nice you've watched different versions.
Nemophila did a cover of this song and I highly recommend you react to their version as it is pretty amazing :D
Nemophila also have a bunch of original songs and they are all so good. I'm very sure you would like them.
Love what you did with your hair.
Since I was a child, I have heard that Japanese girls hide a short knife (たんとう) with them. Now I believe that is true. XDDDD
Not so much nowadays though...
ありがとうございました❣️🦊
どういたしまして :)
I’ve seen Iron Maiden who puts on some of the best concerts/shows in the world and I can say baby metals live shows are comparable.
I've seen bands like Queen, Rammstein, Slayer, Black Sabbath and such... and have to agree ;)
Queen SU❤️ Princess MOA😍 Princess YUI😍🦊🤘
You have to see Rondo of Nightmare, you'll see some more of the band!

Don’t know if anyone stated this but the band isn’t really playing on stage they’re mimicking it’s a backing track playing this was before they had the kami band

Youd definitely like pa pa ya!, by them
Babymetal🤟🇯🇵❤
The peak of this comes when Su shouts
"Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" or "Maidens should not be underestimated"
and in the video threateningly draws a knife from her microphone or in this concert does a front kick.
( Think we call it a trixter that use it's beauty to deceive a person.)
So a man who was deceived by a (charming) woman feels feels like deceived by a vixen and calls her "megitsune" ;)
nametara ikanzeyo means do not make light of me
good viddo,good reaction.
I love babymetal
Megitsune means Crafty Woman in japanese
