Don’t be afraid to lay into the hook set frog fishing, if they take it down you gotta basically turn them around before your hooks actually penetrate, super tough in a kayak cause you’re also moving towards the fish, good stuff 👍

Man you could not be more right about that! Appreciate you watching!

@@FishingOntario no problem! I only noticed cause I fish from a paddleboard sometimes and you really gotta set hard cause you scoot towards them pretty quick being so light

I probably never would have even thought about that being a reason for not hooking them up if you didn’t comment!

Hey, brother...did I miss something?!! I've been checking in occasionally to see what happened with the Optimax repair work and haven't seen the results. Anyway, cool kayak video! Stay safe!!

The optimax was up and running last summer and fall it ran very strong with no problems after we fixed all the issues. This spring we were changing the lower unit oil and saw some metal flakes in it so took it back apart and found a bad bearing on the propellor shaft that lives inside of the forward gear .This was the only bearing that we did not look at when we had it apart the first time so this was kind of self inflicted wound . The gear case now would need all the bearings replaced and that is pretty expensive and time consuming so we made a decision to cut our losses and get back to fishing so the boat has a new four stroke on it now different brand and we are just about to get to the break in weather permitting .

Appreciate you staying with us through these difficult times! The Opti ended up having MORE issues if you can believe it, so we have since repowered, stay tuned for an update on that

I recently got a fishing kayak and have been going out a ton on my local rivers. I only have one rod at the moment (medium light that I use for ned rigs, 4" wacky, small swimbaits etc). I have a medium spinning rod (rated 1/4 - 3/4oz) that I need to get a reel for so I can start brining out two rods. What would you recommend I use the medium rod for? I was thinking maybe top water as that's what I am lacking? Any suggestions on what you would do/lures to use? Thanks! I am from ontario as well!

Hey man, first off, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! nice to see I have some other Ontarians up in here. A medium rod is super versatile, you definitely could use it for topwater stuff, I would use it for something like a whopperplopper, those crush in the rivers.
