I ended up getting the Behringer hm300 and it sounds great with my Keeley compressor in front of it to give it a little extra chainsaw without getting too muddy.
I actually had one of the original HM-2 pedals when they first came out, and during a period of mental instability, I gave it away. I have to say, the HM-300 is pretty bloody close.
You need a Behringer gm108 and turn all the knobs to max and mids to 1 or 2 and you get a special but awsome death metal sound. Thats btw the only setting that sounds good with this amp.
finally.. a professionally done comparison of these two pedals. I ended up buying the hm300 and i’m not too disappointed with it but I would prefer to own the hm2
I like to imagine the neighbor said: "What are you doing? Are you sawing bears in half with a chainsaw? Because it sounds like you are sawing bears in half with a chainsaw."
I added the 300 to my gigging pedal board for 2 songs and I didn't have high hopes for it lasting ( sounds great) and after 2 years in that band it's on my home board and still doing great. Awesome pedals for the price and when it comes to boss pedals they are so so close as they own the rights to the circuit board designs
@@vipervidsgamingplus5723 didn't they buy all the rights to a load of classic pedal designs and schematics.. so in fairness they are as close as you can get for £20-£25 instead of 100s on vintage pedals
I've been an hm300 disciple for years, I think the clipping is way smoother and is a little more versatile (from an eq boost all the way to fuzz territory.) Though the killer app for that pedal is truly bass. I'm sure people have heard these to death, but I would love to see a video of you shooting out your distortions/drives on bass!!
Dax, there's a mod for Digitech Death Metal pedal that replaces the fixed feedback resistor with a potentiometer which acts as a functional gain knob. If you have some soldering skills you can find the instructions online and mod it yourself. It's a bit tricky and you can ruin the pedal but then again, it's a worthless piece of shit anyway so who cares. An easier trick to reduce the insane gain level of the pedal is to roll back the volume knob on your guitar. I tried it myself and it works. You wont get a very good tone out of it whatever you do to it but it can be made to sound less shitty.
I love playing with these pedals(in my swedish death metal style band), I prefer to put the distortion on minimal and the other options on max then play it through the gain channel on the amp. It makes the sound alot more refined, you should try it sometime. =]
Christopher Chambers Possibly, but theirs just something right about it anyways. Like the melodic parts of Dismember songs would never work if the structure of the distortion was anything different.
I have MIJ HM-2, MIT HM-2, Behringer HM300, and TC Electronic Eyemaster. All awesome pedals for “all settings on 10” Swedish Buzzsaw. They may be a one trick pony. But it is a damn good trick. Boss HM-2 is the cornerstone of my guitar tone. This pedal has had a major resurgence lately.
Apparently you don't understand how Gain works, you turn it all the way up! Then, you figure out how to turn the Gain up more, those sweet sweet pedals cranked all the way up should do the trick...
Back when I started playing it was just about the distortion pedal, now it seems everyone likes to use the amp overdrive with an overdrive/distortion pedal on low gain. Personally I still prefer the former.
I actually use the Behringer UM300 live... To be fair it's only for replicating a gnarly type of distortion, works well as an effect. Not so much as a great heavy tone.
Lmao! The first time I’ve ever seen a comedy show with shredding ass guitar as the main topic.. this guy is a nut.. love your vids to say The least.. always entertaining..
You should try the TC Electronic Eyemaster, it's about $50-60, its made out of metal, it doesn't have the white noise of the Behringer, despite only having a gain and volume knob, the pedal is based of the HM-2 dimed and sounds amazingly close. I keep both and love them both!
I have one of these Behringer pedals I have used 80's boss HM pedal before but thought I would see what sounds you would get cos the other reviews were not metal enough :) so thank's for showing us about this pedal I think I will give it a try as I was planning on making some old school swedish death metal style songs & this sound could be what I need to inspire me :) have an awesome weekend!
Every time I hear a "dimed" HM-2, I get an instant flashback to being a teenager and blasting Entombed's _Clandestine_ for weeks on end. Chugggrrfffzzz!!!
Just bought one of these, running it into the blue Behringer tube amp modeler pedal on high gain Mesa amp setting and then into an ampeg bass amp with a fender single coil strat in the bridge position. I think I just melted my face off. I love it.
Possibly the best tone I've ever had for metal was plugging straight into my solid state CRATE G40 XL on its 3 knob(gain, level, shape) distortion channel and line out into some brand 130c 2x12 on the clean channel. It was resonant and note definition worked perfectly for "the bleeding" style trem picked hammer on, pull offs. It was great at making ones playing sound right and controlled even if you were at your limit and barely hanging on. It was basically the antithesis of how a class A amp seems to magnify mistakes but touch sensitive and expressive.
Very interesting would be what kind of circuit is inside each pedal.Probably boss is fully analog and the behringer uses a single dsp chip to replicate the effect and tones.
