- On this week's episode of IGN's PlayStation show, Podcast Beyond 746, host Jonathon Dornbush is joined by Jada Griffin and Mark Medina for another trip down PlayStation nostalgia lane, as we discuss the PS2 games we want on the new PS Plus lineup later this year.
The trio throws the show order all out of whack when they open the show discussing the games they've been playing this week (and shockingly not Severance)! We discuss a bit of A Plague Tale, Jada's love for Slay the Spire, and how Jonathon accidentally made Mark fall in love with Fortnite.
Then, the cast breaks down the PS2 games we'd like to see added to PS Plus, alongside the problems that come with so many having received remasters or remakes, what original versions we would still want to see, and if having a PS2 original to download is a better option than a PS3 remaster to stream. (Jonathon has a semi-breakdown in real-time about it, even!) We dig into some of the biggest games we loved from the PS2 era, from PlayStation first-party games on the PlayStation 2 like Sly Cooper and Ratchet and Clank, to third-party hits like Devil May Cry, SSX Tricky, Dark Cloud 2, X-Men Legends, the GTA Trilogy and more, along with big franchises like Dynasty Warriors, Persona, and so much more, including even PS2 licensed games and favorites of the era, like the PlayStation 2's 007: Nightfire and the Lord of the Rings games like Two Towers and Return of the King on PS2. We also discuss some of your picks for your favorite PS2 games, and discuss the ups and downs of the PS2 generation overall.
Then, the crew takes a breather from our PS2 nostalgia to look at some of the latest news of the week, including Amy Hennig's new Star Wars game, the latest Portal 3 hopes, Kojima Productions not joining PlayStation and more, before wrapping things up with an appropriately themed PS2 Memory Card!

I would really like remasters/remakes of Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter
I’m not sure if Jak and Daxter needs a remastered because the ps2 version with trophies support on Jak 1, Jak 2, Jak 3, and Jak X combat racing was been on PS store in PS4/PS5 and also with Sly Cooper they should definitely do the remake or remasters because this year after they announced that Sly Cooper is coming back this year.
Like I would despite that lingering hope from many fans, though, those in charge at Naughty Dog have now explained why it is unlikely that the studio will ever return to Jak and Daxter franchises from the past.

1. God Hand which is most badass game than DmC series,
2. Onimusha dawn of dreams which is my fav capcom series with awesome cut scenes and weapons.
3. Mortal Kombat Shaolin monks - which is best mortal 3d kombat game with good story, mechanics and most importantly coop with liu kang and kung lao was top notch at the time.
4. Burnout 3 : takedown was and is the best arcade racing i’ve ever played.
5. DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi 2&3 - Best dragon ball games even by today’s standards
6. Silent hill - best horror game need to be ported
7. Wwe smack down pain - which is still the best wrestling game period .
8. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec and 4 : which are one of the best GT games that needs to be available.
9. MGS 2 - Common do we need to even talk about this game. It was a masterpiece.
10. Prince of persia warrior within and two thrones - which are still best ubisoft games they made.
11. Ico - the one that started umito fueda’s legacy.
Gosh i so much love the ps2 era. So much variety. Wish i was an adult back then so that i can buy all ps2 games i need.
Same here there were way too many great games and nowhere near enough time with school and work, I did get to drop Silent Hill 2 at the end from of our listeners, and I would have loved to shout out B3, MK SM, DBZ T3, and even the Naruto Ultimate Ninja games too, those were excellent smash bros kind of games.
@@jadarina5035 absolutely jada. Awesome thing about ps2 was it was powerhouse of all genres of games. From japan to european to americal all kinds of games were available on the platform which these gens somewhat lacking. Also shout out to Soul calibur and patapon games.

The EA Sports Big brand was so on fire back then. The NBA Street series was so close to arcade basketball perfection, I only disliked one thing and that was not having a goal tending violation rule, which was kind of stupid when you could have a big Wilt Chamberlain sitting under the rim all the time. It also felt as though it was at the forefront of progress for the sports genre when it was making big moves. There was a make your own player career mode, smart use of stats and brilliantly diverse move set.
Also, thankyou Dornbush for the SSX Tricky shout out. That series was so special to me and am dying to see some more Xtreme Sports/Xtreme Racing games, I feel there's still so much more they could do with those genres and they are always an immediate blast.
just gotta say---- MAX uses guns and a wrench, but his gun is more powerful making him the better ranged fighter, MONICA uses swords and magic but her swords are better making her a better melee fighter. DC2 is one of the greatest games of all time.

My 6 year old watches longplays of that Nightmare Before Christmas game every morning. It's funny to hear Jada describe something I'm seeing everyday at the moment.

Did some research there is a Grandia HD Collection for 1 and 2 on Switch and PC.
Down hill , jack 3 , ratchet , crash 2 , DBZ budokai tenkaishi 3 and sly 3 are my faviorate games ever on ps2 ( if not my all time fav ). Man these games were my childhood

While Katamari Damacy has been rereleased on modern consoles, We ❤️ Katamari (PS2) and Katamari Forever (PS3) never got off those consoles. I’d love to see We ❤️ Katamari return since that’s (imo) the best of the whole series.

always thought that the only things that hold Slay the Spire back from being another obsession of mine was the minimalist presentation and sound design, but even so it's still pretty addictive, and just as Mark shouted out, there's always Darkest Dungeon...that one i do have over 500h in.
I actually love the minimalist style for it, I feel like a lot of other similar games get bogged down in other things and forget that the gameplay loop is the most crucial element for hooking its players.
How do y'all not mention the soul reaver series?

Big Grandia fan here but I have some corrections.
Grandia 1 was PS1 / Sega Saturn (Sat version actually looks the best)
Grandia 2 was Dreamcast / PS2 (Again the Sega console has the superior version)
Grandia 3 was PS2 only
Grandia Xtreme (also PS2 only) is NOT a re-master / re-telling of the 1st Grandia, it's a whole new game.
If you've never played the first I would recommend it, next best in the series to Grandia 2.
BOTH Grandia 1 & 2 got HD ports to the switch (even got a physical release) with native widescreen, probably how I would recommend most play in 2022.
I was probably wrong here but my friend group always pronounced it Gr-Ah-N-Dia so interesting to hear it as Gr-An-Dia.

The PS2 Mortal Kombat games deserve a remaster. Along with the old Sly Cooper games.
Glad Drakan was mentioned, as well as Radiata Stories, as those are a couple of my PS2 favorites. I also want to mention Dog's Life, Downhill Domination, and Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. And, as a random honorable mention, Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure.
all sony truly care about is the hype franchises even tho they have the biggest banger library ever. which is fine for new fans who have never heard of these great games, but it sucks for us oldies.
Dragon Quest 8 would be phenomenal on ps premium and Onimusha series would be great to comeback

Oh we didn't. He's referring to the fact that we were opening each episode with a little bit of Severance talk. We started last weeks episode going over the finale, but we kept it completely spoiler free so it's not super long. Regardless, the last episode was some of the most tense bits of TV Ive ever seen. And when the screen dipped to black at the end and the credits came up, i outloud yelled OH FUCK YOU! lol. I was VERY worked up!

To be the most under rated jrpg of all time is Xenogears. But thats late ps1 game. I wish they make a xenogear remake for the ps5 like they did FF7 but just shortened and fix the last part of the game a little

Any modern cheap player ( most players ) is going to say..wow...so many games...he is gonna play for 5 minutes and dump it coz he wont be able to have fun with what doesnt play modernly

I'm one of these people who loved Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart, but have only played the 2016 Ratchet game before.
Meanwhile on Xbox, through gamepass I've played every Halo game, and every Gears game. Stuff like this is important, and allows you to get closer to the brand. I identify with Xbox far more now than I ever had. That's cool, but PlayStation is actually my childhood memories machine, so it should have had the advantage.

The Dynasty Warriors franchise was my introduction to console gaming. And ever since I was a kid up until now, I always pronounce Musou as "mu-su".

great series but one I sadly missed growing up, I know they remastered one recently its definitely on my shortlist to catch up on.
The .Hack 4 games would make me an instant subscriber... but I know that won't happen.
Dynasty Warriors hasn't really fallen. A lot of the world has just sort of moved on. I started with 3 as well in around 2003-4 with my younger brother. I was 13-4 and he was 8-9, we were hooked. I've played all of the mainline entries for DW and SW, and a few of the spin-offs. If u liked them back then, they've seen many improvements that u are sure sure to enjoy. U should try as many mainline entries as possible, all for different reasons. DW5 and DW5 Xtreme Legends were the final-ish and best DW on PS2 (disc swapping necessary) , and along with DW6 was the height of my brother and I playing it together all the time. I would recommend DW5 with XL because it's the last and best of that era, DW6 (PS2 version) because they tried some cool new things that unfortunately didn't carry on, and maybe you'd appreciate. DW7 Xtreme Legends for it's cool mode with a home base camp element and also new features and character revisions. DW8 Xtreme Legends because it's just insanity and the most recent "normal" entry. As for DW9, I really enjoy it. I think the open world was a cool switch up, and there's definitely potential with that setup. We might not see it again though, so if u want to have that experience, that may be your only option. U can also play DW7 - 9 in online co-op. The last recommendation for the series is the spin-off Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate which is literally the Ultimate Warriors experience with 145 playable characters, that's eveyone from both series plus some special guests from Ninja Gaiden, Atelier and Soul Calibur, as well as a couple new fantasy characters. It's the last in the series so far that I've played the crap out of with my friends.Oops, I forgot to recommend any SW variants. For a more DW5 classic experience, go for SW2 with Xtreme Legends. As for a more upgraded modern experience, SW4 is my choice, it's my favorite SW game.

I'll NEVER pay 119.99 for PS+ on my PS4 I'd rather just have JRPG's PORTED/Remastered over to PSN WITHOUT having to pay for a PS+ subscription ie have Namcobandia port all the PS1 and PS2 Tales of games directly to PSN WITHOUT having to pay 119.99 for 1 year TO play them.
Same with the 4 original .hack games since the 20th Year Anniversary for those will be Feb. of NEXT year.
I hate DQ8 I'd rather have DQ6 and 7 get the PS4/PS5/Switch port/remaster of those games.
