    Ken Griffey Jr. might be the most underrated player of all-time. Everyone knows how great he was but he's never mentioned in "greatest hitters ever" discussions. He was in the shadows of the sosa vs McGuire race and wasn't involved in steroids. He kinda flew under the radar on his way to 600 home runs. I wish players like him would be recognized and applauded for not using PED, but in today's society, we only like to hear about the wrong things people do, never the right. Thank u Mr. Griffey Jr.

    • @williamkoscielniak820
      @williamkoscielniak820 4 года назад

      Griffey was the better slugger than Bonds prior to Bonds taking roids. With that said, he's just simply not the greatest hitter of all time. His on base percentage just wasn't good enough to put him in that conversation. Barry Bonds (pre-roids) and Frank Thomas were superior hitters than Griffey. With that said, Griffey is one of the greatest all around players ever and one of the greatest sluggers ever.

      That is a fair point but a homerun isn't about strength. Maybe a few homeruns that bonds hit were muscled over but baseball is a game of precision where the difference between a ground ball and a homerun is less than 1/8 of an inch. Muscle definitely helps but those 762 balls that bonds hit were 762 perfectly hit baseballs and steroids don't teach you how to do that

    Had Babe Ruth had as many at bats as today’s home run hitters he would have had a total of around 860 homers if he had kept hitting them at the same clip throughout his career as he was. Far more than anyone else and a total that would have never been topped. Remember he was a pitcher for the first few seasons and the season only had 154 games instead of the 162 games of today. I have often wondered though how Ruth would have faired in today’s game. I’d bet that he would still be a home run leader today.

    Interesting that so many list Aaron as the greatest home run hitter. Since a lot say scratch Bonds because he cheated ,Aaron is number one.Are these people that are saying this saying Aaron would have been number one in life time homers if Bonds had not cheated- which is true,or are they saying their subjective opinion is that Aaron was really the greatest home run hitter ever?(which is the question posed by this video).I am old enough to remember almost all of Aaron's career .At times he was my favorite player.But when McCovey came along I thought he was phenomenal,and when McCovey retired I thought he was the best hitter- and home run hitter I had ever seen.Granted Mays and Aaron were far superior overall talents to McCovey ,but McCovey was the best hitter the Giants had in the sixties.So obviously I am saying - as a hitter and as a home run hitter McCovey was superior to Mays or Aaron- not by a wide margin.And McCovey did out homer Aaron per ab bat based on career numbers...slightly.But Aaron had a pitcher's park to play his home games in during the first half of his career,but a great hitters park to play in during the second half of his career . McCovey was always playing his home games in a difficult park for a hitter . So anyway I think McCovey belongs high up on this list.I realize ,of course, that analysts are not willing ,or capable, of making ball park adjustments when analyzing players. Of course Mays ,Aaron,and McCovey played a significant portion of their careers in the sixties when offensive was depressed more than any time since dead ball era,which ended about 1919.

    As a die hard Cubs fan, Sammy shouldn't be on this list. He was a great slugger prior to taking roids but he wasn't an all time great slugger. Also, prior to taking roids, Griffey was a better slugger than Bonds. No WAY does Bonds deserve to be number 1 on this list. And the reason for that is, once again, the fact that he wasn't even the best slugger of his own era prior to taking roids. McGuire is an iffy choice as well, since he was roiding up most of, if not all of his career. Same could be said of Alex Rodriguez. All of the roiders minus Bonds should be removed from this list, and guys like Mickey Mantle, Ted Williams, Harmen Kilibrew and maybe someone like Ernie Banks or Frank Thomas should take their places.

When Ryth played the fields were an average of 16% bigger and if the ball hit the foul pole it was a foul. If babe had as many at bats as hank, with the adjusted hr total, he hits 1131 HRs.
      Compare apples to apples. Of course babe didn't face 90mph plus pitches and wouldn't have done as well. The same can be said for hank and bonds. To me, Hank Aaron will always be the king of home runs. IMO, Barry Bonds, A-Rod, Sammy Sosa, and Mark Mcguire should not be on this list, nor do they belong in the Hall of Fame for PEDs. However, I do respect Mark Mcguire the most out of those 4 since he's the only one who admitted to using PEDs.

      Aaron had 800 more games than Ruth. The fences were pulled in, and the rules changes making it easier. He is not the king of anything.

We could do this ALLLLL DAYYYY long ! PS , Yankees stadium down the line wasn't that far form home plate ? You think , maybe Ruth might have hit some cheap HR"S ? OR are you going to say every single HR he hit went 450 feet ? Aaron DID NOT have Gehrig batting behind him , either ? Some might put HIM , right there with Ruth & would they be WRONG ?

    The Babe tops coz he can hit one with his right hand and holding a cigar in the other while wearing a fur coat and a hangover. He had natural ability and power. McGwire didn't need steroids to be good and he should have just laid off that whatever. Ralph Kiner led the National league in homers 7 consecutive years. He deserves to be in. Aaron hit a bunch but isn't close to the babe or mcgwire in at bats per homer. He just played a long time and stayed healthy. The juice or the cream or whatever didn't help keeping the playing field even. Just because you hit a lot doesn't mean you're a great home run hitter. Micky Mantle hit a lot of long long balls and needs to be mentioned.

      I love your comment about Babe Ruth. That guy was amazing. And he was a damn good pitcher too! Consider:
      In the 1916 World Series between the Red Sox and Brooklyn Robins (eventually Dodgers), Ruth took on Sherry Smith in what would become one of the biggest pitching match-ups in history. The game was tied 1-1 through 14 innings until the Red Sox finally scored and won the game. Both Ruth and Sherry Smith pitched the entire game, which is still the longest World Series game ever played. In the 1918 World Series, Babe Ruth pitched 29 1/3 scoreless innings, a mark that stood until 1961 when Whitey Ford finally broke it. It wasn’t until 1919 that Babe began his transition into a hitter, with 17 games pitching and 130 games hitting that year. In the four and a half seasons that Babe devoted to pitching, he amassed the following statistics:
      ERA - Earned Run Average (2.28 career):
      #1 in ERA in the American League (AL) in 1916.
      15th overall for career ERA.
      Wins (65 career):
      Top 3 in the AL in 2 of his 5 full seasons as a pitcher.
      Won the most games of any left-handed pitcher in the Majors from 1915-17.
      Win/Loss% (.671 career):
      12th on the list for best career win/loss percentage.
      Strikeouts:
      Top 5 in the AL in 2 of his 5 full seasons as a pitcher.
      Shutouts:
      #1 in the AL in 1916.
      In Babe Ruth’s 1916 season as a pitcher, his record was 23 Wins and 170 Strikeouts, with a 1.75 ERA, 9 Shutouts and 23 Complete Games - a very impressive mark for even the best pitchers in baseball. To give some perspective, Roger Clemens, who is considered to be one of the best pitchers today and throughout baseball history, has earned himself a record 7 Cy Young Awards. In what has been considered the best season of his career to date, Clemens had the following record: 24 Wins, 238 Strikeouts, a 2.48 ERA, 1 Shutout and 10 Complete Games.
      (From Babe Ruth central)
      Re: Mantle- The Mick was a slammer, for sure. He was also well liked, not only among the Yankee fans, but quite popular all over the world. He ranks # 18 with 536 home runs.

    • @Rspenesmit
      @Rspenesmit 5 лет назад

      NO, I use to collect baseball cards and I could just look at their cards throughout their careers and tell you instantly the ones that did steroids, you could see the transformation over time the ones that suddenly bulked up like a football lineman, Thome, Bonds, Mcgwire, Mark always was a big guy, but i went back to the A's early World Series with him and he was tall and thinner, until he got on roids, Sosa and others, I live iN cincinnati, Ohio and watched Ken griffey Jr. at Moeller Hs, he was a man among boys then, he had a sweet natural swing, he was always accused of not trying, being lazy, because it all came so easy for him, super gifted athlete, he did not need roids, neither did Bonds he began as a slimmer athlete also, but got into the bigger money for hitter HR's and the chase for the record, is what got him into it all.
