I just graduated from a BSN program. I am now studying to take the NCLEX. I can promise all relevant critical thinking for nursing derives from A&P. If nothing else, understand it backwards and forwards. Hint: For those single parents and working students out there. Utilize every moment studying. I used to sit in traffic listening to audio lectures between study groups, flash cards, and cramming. How bad do you want it !?!? 😆
Did you pass the NCLEX?
@@merlinel3855
Yes
Serene Marine Do you have any nursing school advice? Also, Is your job easy? What’s the hardest and easiest part about working as a nurse? I’m doing my prerequisites and I’m so curious.
@@merlinel3855
As you know: Nurses are trained to implement all nursing treatments. So my advice will be the emotional part of Nursing..
The hardest part of Nursing..unrealistic expectations placed upon Nurses by nursing management. TIP: Keep your license safe by keeping patient safe. Also, you cannot effectively care for others if you do not first care for self.
The easiest part of Nursing: Accepting others opinions (whether good or bad) from learning how not to take things personally
Serene Marine Thank you!
So true. We just started our program in January and we’ve already lost about 20% of our class. Most of the ones that are gone were the ones talking about how their A&P credits had “just made the 5 year cut-off.” They struggled from Day 1. Having a solid understanding of A&P will definitely make this process so much smoother 🙌🏾
That is so good to hear honestly. I start nursing school in January, and I took A&P 1 and 2 in the past 6 months, took it very seriously, did well, and was asked to tutor both classes. Hoping my hard work will pay off!!
I cannot like this video enough! I've been on summer break and revisiting A&P like crazy.
Great video. It's quite clear this guy is really intelligent and knows his stuff. Thanks
I 100% agree with you! As hard as A&P was, looking back I'm grateful I just finished it 4 months before my accelerated nursing program started!
Thank u! U always pull me up again whenever I suffer from burn out
I took anatomy and physiology separated for the first time 5 years ago. I failed anatomy and physiology barely passed with C. I retook anatomy a year ago, dedicated a lot of time and got an A. I just entered nursing school. I can tell you I’m struggling with the physiology part. It is important to take it serious and obtain good grades for better chances for getting into nursing school.
Boy! Thought about taking a nap but I'm about to go hard on this spinal cord and spinal nerves chapter.
So glad I found your videos. Thanks a million.
Amazing tips! Thank you! So glad I found your channel!
I'm in second semester and I had not had A&P in 8 years. 25 percent of the time I spent studying was going over how the body was supposed to work, it takes up all your time...but it feels amazing studying to know I will save lives.
Thank you, I'm getting ready to move into a place where I can focus more. I really and truly like your style. I will be going over Anatomy and Physiology over and over and over. Thank you. I'm glad I tuned into your channel I recommend you to everyone
Thank you for this video. It’s inspired me to do better in A&P so I won’t struggle in my nursing classes later on.
I'm actually amazed by how many are saying 6-8 hours of studying A&P is too much or not necessary. I'm I'm A&P I right now.. Summer Class 10 weeks. I study more than 6-8 hours a day..I don't have a choice, if I don't I realized I'm not actually retaining the information. I want to learn it to actually learn it, not to just pass the class. It's's a beast! However, I truly feel in the long run it will help me in Nursing School.
Anita Turner EXACTLY!! It's a lynchpin in Nursing School! I am CONSTANTLY either remembering what I was taught in A&P or having to have ny A&P notes as my reference guide. As for how much I studied? EASY 3-5 hours a day. And more if it was a tough unit. I know some say they did it in less...God Bless them... but they are the rare ones. Anyone that **I** know who only studied an hour or two (or hardly) PAID for it down the road. STUDY and don't allow yourself to get behind. This massive study will START to give you a clue as to what you will BEGIN to face in Nursing School.
Best Wishes!!
Yes A&P will be SUPER helpful especially cardiovascular IMO cuz you will see a bunch of ppl with cardiovascular disease etc.
You was in a 10 week course....that's why...ur advisor should have told u that is not the best option for a biology course....15 wks are the best options....studying 1-3 hours is all that is needed
@@tmcclain7103 right...I’m doing the 15 week course and my instructor told us to study at least an hour a day for A&P. 6-8 hours seems a bit extreme IMO, especially since we have other classes too.
This is great Brad and I am going to share your RUclips site to the students. I am teaching NUR 211 now and I want the students prepared to go to NUR 213 and to pass the NCLEX. Keep up the good work! Ms. Rogers
I’m so glad I saw this. It’s helping me feel better about starting nursing school in January.. I busted my butt in A&P 1 and 2 just to get my As, glad to know it’ll pay off!
The intro sparked my interest and your personality while delivering the message kept me interested. Stay true.
"Did you get an A in A&P"
"...Yes..."
"What did it cost?"
"...Everything..."
Scofield229 “No cost too great.”
Lol
I work 10-12 hours a day then fight Dallas traffic; all before class at 7pm which ends at 10:20 pm. This is lecture and lab. Then race home as I'm a single mom 🤷🏻♀️ lol. I need to be studying time management skills.
Are you a RN now?
@T South Got it! Thank you! I have no kids and I’m terrified of the work load of nursing school and it encourages me when people who have kids and work get through nursing school because if they can do it with kids and a job, then I can do it with no kids and working part time. That’s all. Thank you though 💖💖
A&P 6 to 8 hours a day??? That's what you call beast mode
Watched everything wrong with split before this so after reading this I'm like lol.
I got my first test back 84% from grinding 6 to 8 a day
I passed with an A barely but I spent so much time and now I’m worried about A&P ll give me luck going back after Christmas break hope 2021 gives me luck if not you know I failed A&P ll
With a full time job that’s not realistic sadly. On the weekends yes study all day sat and sun but when you take this class along with a 9-5 that’s just not doable sadly :(
Looking back a&p was a breeze it’s chemistry that was the real mind boggler.
Thank you so much for your priceless advice.
Thanks Nurse Bass! I'm going to take my teas test on the 19th and I'm excited. Pray for me! I enjoy your videos so much
Man I’m so glad I decided to retake anatomy 1&2 this summer before going into nursing school in the fall especially after watching this video.
I took A&P I in the summer and let me tell you that was one heck of a rollercoaster! 😂 I got an A+ ✊🤓 and all that hard work was so worth it. Wish I would have taken A&P 2 in my summer 2 semester 😅 but I'm taking it in the fall. My only tips for this class are to dedicate to this class like you're in a relationship! Also no slacking and use any materials your professor gives you like slide printouts to follow during lecture! I wish the best to those taking it and I hope this helps!
Thanks Nurse Bass.... I start nursing school next month and you can imagine my emotions are all over the place... You have given me some insightful tips that I plan to implement in my nursing school journey..
preach bro! This is absolutely hands down exactly the advice I give to new nursing students!
Doing physiology next term and nurse bass you're inspiring me to go for 95+% in the class. So glad I came across your channel
I'm happy you found the channel also! It. Can. Be. Done. :D
Are you a RN now?
Thanks for the advice I start a and p on Saturday
I'm in nursing school right now. I didn't do so well on my A and P tests but I know the material. Any tips on what I need to do to refine this set of knowledge now that I'm in school?
i’m on A&P 1 right now!! needed to hear this before it was technically too late (first exam is in the first week of october)
Good video.. I'm retaking A&P cause I took it so long ago but now I'm in a hybrid online course and it's very hard.
I start my 2nd semester of nursing school in Aug, thanks for the motivation since prereq's......badass NRSNG cap
So I just started nursing school last month and it is so true you need to know your A and P. Another piece of advice to help everyone who is studying. Review your notes every night. It helps when you have exams and to really understand and remember the material. This summer between my 3 classes we are having 1 or 2 exams a week. It makes my life so much easier not cramming before an exam and I am understanding and starting to think like a nurse. Also basic molecular and cellular bio is helpful. It is what I have my first degree in. So even watching videos on it will help your understanding later down the line.
I'm taking one at a time to get the information deep like you said sir thank future army nurse
I just found out that I got accepted for the fall into a BSNprogram! I went hard in anatomy and I am so happy that I have that foundation because it keeps popping up in different areas.
Megan Kranz EXACTLY!!! you will never hear a nursing student say, "all that study time in anatomy and physiology was such a waste." On the contrary, most are saying, "I wish I spent more time studying that class!"
How did you do? I start in a few weeks😬 going back over A&P material from 2 years ago now
I had to come back to your veds.. Im going to start... your upfront but your energy makes me feel like I can do this
Ashley Campos I discovered Brad's videos a couple years ago. At that time, I was just starting back into college. My hope was that I was going to go into registration at a local hospital, and maybe someday advance to surgical scheduling. Then someone told me that I should be going for my CMA, and I planned to give that a chance. All the while, I was watching Brad's videos and dreaming that one day I might be able to be half as good as him in my own field. But then, kind-of with his inspiration, I decided to give the TEAS test a try. Just in case. I had worked so hard up to that point that I had all my pre-reqs done... and this was sort-of a "shooting for the stars" chance. I gave myself one shot to do it and then I was going to retreat back into my previous plans.
Well, all my hard work paid off. I ended up scoring a 94.5% on theTEAS, and am now in my second semester of nursing school. Yes, I sort-of owe it to Brad and his videos.
Good advise brotha!
YOU ARE SO RIGHT! I just finished nursing school, but I know for a fact that it would have been easier for me if I hadn't taking A&P so long prior and had actually taken it seriously when I did ( Wasn't planning on becoming a nurse then).
I think anatomy definitely helped build a foundation and was useful. At least second semester of it for my particular school, but I'm not sure this was such a big impact on my program.
🙏🏼Thank You from Mission, TX 💚
I stuggled with my adhd, aced my a&p and micro. Btw has anyone ever told u that u look exactly like Sal from "Impractical Jokers". thanks for all the advise and inspiration!!
Hello how are you now?
RUclips always suggest your videos and channel but I never pay attention. But you are the beast! I like you. Your videos are awesome. Thanks for your integrity. 💕🙈
How old did you went into nursing school though?
Good night....Can you do a video on how to write a well detailed patient management based on the patient's diagnosis or illnesses
I took my A&P over a decade ago. I just graduated this month. My anatomy was separate from physiology. We had cadavers during anatomy lab. I bought Snell's anatomy book back then. Like Pharm, it's a memory work, you just need to put extra effort remembering it. Once you remember, it stays with you even if you get waterboarded.
In my first semester of nursing school, they require you take an advanced A&P course. With this course, they also give this huge book for anatomy that's just filled with diagrams, and we use it during lecture to fill it out with notes and color in because that helps A LOT
That's so wonderful to hear. It's really going to be so beneficial and will pay off in the long run!
Nurse BAAASS!! 😀 I've been following your channel since I made the decision to go to nursing school. 2 semesters later and here I am. I started my BSN program yesterday. I'm nervous but also excited. Will be watching more videos!! You're awesome.
Tracy Washington Me too!! I'm now in my second semester.... woooo, this is tough. Hang in there!!
We got this!! Hang in there.
I'm starting nursing school in a couple of weeks. I can't wait but I'm nervous about it.
Whoooopppps. I am taking anatomy for my summer class and I’m taking it for granted. We only finished first 4 chapters so its not too late to change my mindset.
I would love to hear your opinions on males in nursing and the stigma associated with nursing being a "female" job.
Love your videos!
Thank you for the advice :)
Could you please make more videos for near future Nursing Students????
thank you for this God bless
Question for you Nurse Bass, if you have a moment. I know this video is kinda old but I wanted to ask you about anatomy. When you take anatomy, do you have to learn every single tiny fragment of the body? I’m self teaching before school, and am not sure what specifically will be asked of me to learn in school. I’m taking anatomy for a quarter system college for mortuary science. How much could they expect me to cram in 10 weeks? I just thought I’d ask because you know about this stuff very well.
Thank you!
Hope all is well with you & your fam
Omg yeah.. I literally would be able to reference to my professors in A&P their own slides while asking a question. Like on chapter 9 slide 18 top of the page... -.- But I've been out of A&P for a whole year now starting nursing school so I'm nervous now.
Nurse Bass can you discuss the DIRECT ENTRY PROGRAM?
thanks for the tip! 6-8 hrs is definitely beast mode though!
I'm considering going into nursing school, Associate Degree ....not sure when I can start, it may be 2019 before I can start, would you recommend I get a book and start studying on my own? There is so much material on RUclips, educational books, etc that I feel I should give myself a head start on just start learning now. :) good idea?
This is so true!!!! I took my science prerequisites 1 at a time and entered nursing with 4.0 science Gpa! It is helping me a lot! 😊 I too studied 6-8 hours a day.
Good advise!!!!
Agreed! I would add patho
you are so God given blessed to study slide shows in nursing school without zero head aches and studying pathophysiology's and anatomies effortlessly.. idk why dont i have that
Any experience with Portage Learning? I took both A&Ps over 10 years ago. One of the schools I'm looking at does not have a shelf life requirement on prereqs, but I want to retake them. Other schools said they will accept them. If this were my first time through A&P, I would probably go the in-person route, but I really need refresher more than anything.
Hi my name is ian I'm planning on a nursing program which puts me with the RN to BSN route through my community college to Texas Women's University. But I'm afraid of rejection being that im blind in my left eye with 25% peripheral loss in my right eye. This is due to the Chemo treatment I did for 8 years and I'm stable now
appreciate it brother
Thank you!
I got a B in first part of anatomy and physiology and A in second part of anatomy and physiology part two. Musculoskeletal didn’t really click that much than than the other body systems. Yea A and P took a lot of understanding and time
Nurse Bass! I just started nursing school Monday. My fundamentals class has no lecture and is 100% self taught. The professor posted slides but they’re very very vague and I feel like I’m missing information. When I show up to my labs I feel lost. Do you have any recommendations at all? The chapters of texts books are also posted so I’m trying to figure out how to break down the reading material to make it stick. I’m struggling and it’s only day 3 😩
Thank you so much ☺️
My current situation. 😩 it's been 2 years since I took A&P, and I feel like I could've taken it a little more serious than I did.. ssooo yeah, currently trying to brush up on it. 😬 my first semester of nursing school starts two weeks from today! 😱
Davonda Washington how did your first semester go? Any advice?
Yeah I agree with that. A&P is life, cramming is not an option. My strategy was reviewing the test material two weeks in advanced minimum. One week before the test I would really pick up the pace.
Love to hear that
Bass, you need to ask Jon Hawes about potentially speaking at the Nursing Conference next year in San Antone
We missed you this year in Dallas
I got a B+ in a&p1 and A- in a&p 2.... thoughts on getting in to nursing school?
A&P is so important that is why I still review A&P in conjunction with a disease process. I think a lot of student stress over the fact that they did well in A&P and struggle in nursing. Knowing A&P is super important but knowing how to break the test questions down and changing your method of studying is important. I am going through the beast that is nursing school now. I will be done May 2018
Got a professor who does minimal notes on A and P.lots of quizzes, self reads, learning modules. On test it's essay type and her grading is vague.ive git objectives, review sessions to help, key words but I've failed to comprehend the grading and despise it.so I'm trying to really study A and P. How do i go on about really learning the materials and applications of learning material? Any advice yall?
Great video thanks for sharing ❤
Of course!
Ohhhh all that excites me so much a and p
I had to drop a&p 1 even though I studied everyday multiple hours a day yet only passed one test. What would you suggest would also be beneficial to get it into my mind?
Omg when you said A&P my stomach dropped. 😰 Not only did I not take it seriously, (I wasn't going for nursing at first) I took it a long time ago. I remember most stuff, but I am a bit rusty. Good thing I have until the 28th of August to re-read my A&P book!
Kayla Suddeth ... I know you aren't in the classes now... but if you need a brush up.. check out the Wendy Riggs channel for A&P.
Also I was wondering I saw in other RUclips views in order to study for the exams most did practice NCLEX questions while studying PowerPoints and notes do you agree if that’s a good way to study?
Hi, Good day I'm turning grade 11 this school year and there's a program in our school for medical field called CVE but you have to pay 300$ (or more) do you think it is worth it.?
I'm about to retake A&P for the second time. When I took it the first time I didn't realize I wanted to be a nurse, and didn't take it seriously. I got a C. So now I'm retaking it this fall! I've already started working on flash cards because I still have the textbook! :) I'm determined to get an A!
Simply Sara Good for you, Sara. Also look into videos by a professor named Wendy Riggs here on RUclips. She was my secret weapon in A&P.
I'm taking bio a+p 1 again this semester it's still overwhelming
I just started ap2 this past week. We already flying through 2 chapters in a week. Quite overwhelmed a bit! I took ap1, twice.. First time did terrible, 2nd time I came out a B.. Studying for this 6 to 8 hrs a day is amazing.. I think my brain would explode. LOL I do need to set a schedule and treat this bad boy like a JOB though, gotta pull this through to apply in January!
Yes, treating it like a job is a great idea. Whatever gets your face in that book more frequently :) lol
Yep that’s about what I did to and I got a B in anatomy one
First vid I found for u and I like u hitting that subscribe button good video
Studying 6-8 hours a day for one class sounds exhausting. I am taking A&P with Microbiology this semester, both with labs. My idea to maximize my time has been to break my studying into 2-3 hour chunks at most because at that point I can't retain more information if I am truly concentrating. I will try to hit the at least 3-4 hours per class that will probably be feasible if I chunk my time.
My daughter wants to go into nursing and I can not wait to show her this video! Your video is wrecking it!!!
I appreciate you! Best wishes to her!
I totally agree with the A&P 1 & 2 suggestion.
But what would you recommend to those of us who need a refresher?
Noelle Everlasting .. Videos on the Wendy Riggs channel. You will thank me. She's great.
@@mckenna8663 She is great. I love her.
I just realized how screwed I am. I just started Nursing school but I took A&P 2 1/2 years ago. I honestly can’t remember ANYTHING.
every STRUGGLE..one behind success there sir .....
What did you use for motivation
Hey I'm 21 years old. I was studying business bachelors course but I dropped it. I always wanted to do nursing but for some reason I ended up studying business. Now I wna study nursing. I'm so lost.. where do I begin?? And I'm not from the US. Do I still have a chance? Someone please help me.
Did you see my bag DNA you can do whatever you set your mind to
Oh god, thank you so much for making me feel normal. Students in class, when hey hear how much I'm studying (8-10 hrs) drop their jaws and I feel like im doing something terribly wrong. But then I see them failing their tests while I'm acing them....I get it. I study until the concepts and structures are so ingrained I can explain them to my 12 year old. Love and hate A&P. Good video. Short and sweet. :)
To bad l did not understand the importance of A& P great advice.
Rebecca Abel as I've mentioned two other commenters... I haven't met one nursing student so far who believes that any second basement studying anatomy and physiology was a waste. If anything they're all saying they wish they spent more time and effort with anatomy and physiology.
Fundamentals, with the exception of oxygenation and perfusion, wasnt about AP... it's mostly critical thinking. But the issue is the SATA questions that stomp me about quality improvement, research, etc, etc... but every school is different.
I wish that my school focused on AP mostly because I got a B in that class.
The math is also easy. But it seems that it just depends on the person as well as the school
U think it's a mistake to take Micro for winter session...?
Doing 16 credit hours this upcoming fall for prerequisites, working 10 hrs a week at a restaurant to keep some money for transportation, and really considering doing CNA class for 24 hrs a week. (one of my prerequisites is A&P).
Am I putting too much on my plate all at once?
I really appreciate your videos. Thanks for your advice throughout your nursing school and career.
p.s, the CNA would only be for 2 months, and would start around midterms. Also, many of my prerequisites are online, and I would say I have good time management and study skills
I would hold off on the CNA class. You really need to get good grades in your pre-reqs, and unfortunately having the CNA stuff on top of those pre-req classes might interfere with those grades. That is just my opinion, especially taking 16 credit hours. It is great you are so motivated!
Brianna Borst hmmmmmm...tough one. there is definitely an advantage in nursing school to those who have worked in the medical Arena. those who have spent time working as a CNA or a tech do you have an advantage in nursing school. it's not a requirement, and there are people in nursing school doing it without already being some sort of a medical worker.
so going for your CNA might help, but it's also going to extend the time that it takes to get through school. also just taking the CNA classes and not going through to working as a CNA is really not going to do you all that well for what it will cost you in time and money. also, as someone else mentioned, it might take away from the time you have to study for your prereqs. what matters most in getting in to nursing is passing the TEAS test with a high score. if doing any of the studying for being a CNA gets in the way of your other prereqs, then it's not worth it.
there's no easy answer on this one. it's one that you're going to have to weigh and find out which is worth it to you. by the way, after you pass your first semester in nursing school, and for us that meant Fundamentals of Nursing med-surg 1 skills lab and clinicals, many states will allow you to take the CNA certification test automatically. if you're going in the nursing direction, you might find that your time in CNA training wasn't worth it in the long run; especially if you're just taking those classes and not planning on actually working as a CNA. I hope this has given you something to think about
Starting school in September and I got my book list and one of them is an A&P book. So excited! :D
But seriously though 6-8 hours? A day? T.T What time do I have to study microbiology, statistics and the rest of the subjects I'm gonna be doing? Classes end at five and even if I started right away...I wouldn't finish until 1 the next morning. Expecting tests every week so still gonna study like mad but 6-8 hours on one subject is freaking overkill!
Still excited though!😄
Sally Winston hey Sally it's one month after you wrote your post, and I hope you're doing well. I would say I am studied 3 to 5 hours a day on anatomy and physiology. I took microbiology in a different semester and that was also about 3 to 5 hours a day for me. for that class it might have been a shorter study time he had I not had a professor with a very heavy accent.
Anatomy physiology, microbiology, and statistics all in one semester. girl that is murder. God bless you on that one. I hope you're holding up. whatever time you can give to each class will pay off in the end. I am now in my second semester of nursing school, and there is not one student I have met who feels that any time they spent studying anatomy and physiology was a waste. In fact, just the opposite. everyone is scrambling to review their notes from AP. and you can tell who really paid attention and who didn't. those folks that did great in anatomy and physiology are soaring past those who did not.
for me, I enjoyed microbiology once I got into it. but it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea. and I wish I could help you I giving you a video channel that helped me through microbiology. Sadly I never found one that was all that great. I'd have to find videos here in there to help me out. but mostly microbiology was on my own.
BUT!!! I CAN help you out with anatomy and physiology. this response is long enough that I'm not going to go into great details, but I'm just going to tell you that the Wendy Riggs Channel was a lifesaver in anatomy and physiology. I owe that woman my life in gratitude. not only did she get me through, but I got A's in both classes. check her Channel out.
anyway. been chatting enough. best wishes!
As I’m finishing off my first semester in nursing school I can say time management is KEY. ! You can’t study a week in advance for a test. You gotta study every single day. Basically dreaming about my patients care plans. 🙃
That's like a job I don't think slides specific needs to be studied to pass. But even after you pass you should be studying it so I'd say buy the book and just read it regularly. During summer and everything.
