SWGZone eGPU sounds interesting but they should’ve better compatible GPUs. I have one from Razor and I can use most cards on it, as long as the power supply it’s enough (and makes sense for the TB3 bandwidth). Yes, it’s not portable. But the magic is to use a portable laptop and at the end of the day, plug in a cable and I have my RTX connected to an external monitor pumping the power. I don’t need it to be portable
They charge whatever the market allows them to charge. Blame the hordes of Mac fanboys who are willing to buy 2010 specs so long as they're in a pretty aluminum chassis with a bitten fruit logo.
Apple buyers, having asked many, say they have no idea what hardware specs they have, or even what they (the specs) mean. They don't really care to know either. They see an Apple logo, and that's all they need to know. Apple isn't a tech company. It's a tech brand. They sell their logo. I have total respect for the roots and history of Apple, but that stopped when their anti-consumer practices and nonsensical decisions began.
@@voxtelnismo 🤡 "2010 specs" but '2026 real world performance on the go' (not SIMD CPU-bound ray-tracing) give a Windows fanboy a number and he'll believe it's relevant.
Looking at some of the comments, it seems like Apple is training AI models to market their products on tech reviewers' channels lol. Both products have their pros and cons so pick your poison.
Comments from brainwashed Apple users are really frustrating me (I don't own a Windows; I use a MacBook). The purpose of this video is not to compare features between them; it's intended to assess the raw performance you get for every dollar spent. In this video, we are comparing a $1800 laptop (just checked the price) with a $2700 MacBook Pro that doesn't even have the specs of its counterpart. We already know silicon chips are more power-efficient, allowing for better performance when unplugged. However, that doesn't justify Apple ripping off the world.
the last time i post comment like this. i was blasted. it seems that some people doesn't mind being ripped off. like honestly. apple silicon is incredible. it draws very little power. but still. the problem with apple is their pricing. still. some people argue that "i love using laptop as a laptop" the choice is. you pick windows laptop or mac. windows mostly suffer when unplugged. while apple ripped you off. i want to know. did people really do heavy workload outside of their home? i mean. being portable means you need sacrifice something.
You can get a power bank the size of a box of toothpaste (smaller actually) that keeps your laptop powered for an additional recharge only for $80-120. Still maintaining portability
@@snapdragons7392 it's complete hypocrisy anyway. the only moments you're using your laptop unplugged for a long time is when you're moving a lot and constantly showing stuff on it at the same time. This isn't a common situation at all, it barey happens. If you're seriously working on any device, IT WILL be plugged, even Macbook can't hold for days unplugged when doing video montage , compression and more. So if the only serious argument is battery life, that seems incredibly light. You're completely right about these apple fanatics. It's not the performances that are the issue, it's the price you pay for these. They're not worth it at all. And don't get me started about their disgusting support.
It's expensive. But the macbook pros, I can understand. I've bought m1 pro in 2021 and runs brand new like. Got rtx 3080 laptop for gaming and bro... it's needed 2 factory resets and is fairly fast but I do feel it's getting bit old. Mac just lasts longer. Macbook pro and a gaming laptop have different purpose - hard to compare really
Hey man ,I love the comparisons you do for all the laptops you review, but could you try and add comparisons for other aspects too ? A lot of the comparisons are heavily based on videography, photography, 3d rendering and similar workflows. I think it would be really helpful to a lot of people if you could compare more Engineering related applications on Mac and PC. For Eg Solidworks, Physics Simulations using softwares like Ansys, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Training AI Models, Speed tests for linux based softwares, MATLAB simulations, and so on. I understand that these tests are much harder to design but till now I've not seen anyone comparing these aspects for Mac, PC and performance gains in each new generation of products.
You'll prob need to be looking at "workstation" laptops like the P1 from Lenovo. They have certified GPUs for engineering software. Videos of those tests seem to be separate to what's presented in videos like the one above. There's just too much to cover already. Also Linux compatability usually mean Lenovo too.
@@dyong888 Yes, I've seen those videos comparing engineering applications in workstation laptops. I just wanted to point out that a lot of the laptop comparisons on the biggest tech channels are done from Gaming and Content Creator pov so it would be good / useful to also add a technical use case.
I don't think many gaming channels are interested. Having said that I think reviewers who are more knowledgeable should review more "engineering laptops" and run appropriate tests. I guess there isn't much $$$ in it and that's why they don't do them. Those in engineering fields will know what to get anyhow (which is a poor excuse) IMO for not doing reviews.@@nirbhayaher8132
For engineering, it 100% makes more sense to get a PC. The vast majority of engineering software is for Windows. These influencers are focused on consumers and when they talk games and video editing, they do not stress a computer like Solidworks or Ansys does.
As someone who used Windows laptops for like 70-80% of my life, once I switched to Mac I can’t go back, the battery life is too good, memory management is way better, the overall OS is much quicker and snappier, no constant security updates every 5 minutes, no bloatware, works great with my other Apple devices, just a much more enjoyable experience
I also switched from a windows laptop and I think both platforms have great features. I for one wish that we could combine the best from both and have the ultimate computer.
Sounds like you're stuck in 2000s era.. windows nowadays are snappier than macOS the shortcut and file manager ahead from MacOS... As a mac user windows has changed a lot in the last decade

@mashirokobato5509 I disagree completely. Windows has gotten substantially worse especially if you are in programming or network engineering. Windows 7 was peak windows.
I'm glad that you used a Lenovo laptop. They are premium products on the PC side. Most MacBooks are premium laptops. Both are excellent for programming. Other industries there are some advantages & disadvantages. - MacBook Pros for professional video/photo editing and DJs. Greatest for laptop battery life. - Premium PCs for non-programming engineering, finance/insurance, and gaming. Also, phenomenal value in the desktop market.
@Sherukka It's still good today. The only difference is it isn't as module as it was in the past. Only the SSD and RAM are adjustable. Only Framework laptops are allowing full modularity now.
People still believe 8gb M1 RAM is equivalent to 16gb PC RAM, hilarious😂. Apple needs to provide 16 gigs for the base models on the same price and stop slowing down base SSDs wtf.
Using both Macs and Windows, I would say that Mac's RAM is at least 50% more efficient, so 8GB is equivalent to 12GB on Windows for day-to-day tasks, that is obviously not for RAM-intensive pro apps, which you would never buy a laptop with just 8GB of RAM.
@@ahaimes6320 its not about efficiency, tasks that need 12-14 gb ram will still take all the RAM. SSD will act as a RAM if not sufficient. Which can make it's life shorter. 8 gb ram cannot work as a 12 gb ram wtf.
@@aashishnakarmi1690 You need to do more research, as that is a false take. Apple uses a swap in the disk RAM, not the flash drive. So, a 512GB machine has an extra 4GB of RAM at its disposal without putting any wear on the SSD. That already equates to 12 GB of fast RAM. Then Apple uses compression; I have seen 3.5GB of compressed RAM on my Mac. Check out the app's RAM usage on Mac -vs. Windows: it is lower in many cases, which helps free up RAM. As I said, I have both, so I can talk from experience. You are probably just flexing.
No matter how good the M3 processors are, the biggest problem with Macs is their "Apple Tax" on SSD and RAM. If I spend around $1500 - $2000 for a good laptop, 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD are basic requirement. It's useless even if you got blazing speed but you are out of storage or memory. Right now, processing photos / videos are eating up more storage and memory As a 16" Intel Macbook User, I am seriously considering returning to Windows after all.
Same. I upgraded, spent over 3K... and my macbook pro, not only cost too much. My Nov 2021 '14 inch has broken down 4 x , three ties this year! I am considering returning to windows. So tired of it breaking down, with my light usage.
@@piemasta93 That makes no sense. I want a desktop experience from my laptop. Sometimes that just happens to include not being at home. I'm still largely plugged in with a laptop.
@@piemasta93 Desktop experience means I like a dedicated workspace setup. I'm not that guy working on a laptop on my lap and in coffee shops. I really don't like working that way. I will always be plugged in on desktop or laptop so battery concerns aren't my concerns. Even when travelling for work this isn't the case. Sometimes when I have time to decompress I'll play a game as well. Mac can't so that. I also generally don't like the Mac environment even for all the things it may be good at (the mac OS is poorly designed). So, it can't provide the experience I want and its selling points aren't selling points to me.
To make a car go faster Windows adds more horsepower and higher octane fuel. Apple makes a car go faster by adding more aerodynamics and reducing weight
Which worked in Windows laptops until the Apple Silicon chips came out for Mac. The problem is those giant "Engines" in Windows laptops produce so much heat that they have to slow themselves down to prevent problems. This is why some i7 laptops will end up beating out i9 laptops of the same generation during an extended workload. Apple solved this by making Apple Silicon, which is for all intents and purposes a mobile processor on steroids. Since Apple Silicon cpu's run at a much lower power level, they also produce much less heat and therefore don't have to throttle themselves. Since these "Mobile" cpu's are also extremely powerful on top of running cool, they in many cases beat out i9's over extended usage. I'm eagerly waiting for the release of the snapdragon ARM processors to compete with this on the Windows side.
I selected the AMD version as it is more power power efficient and has powerful integrated graphics in addition to the RTX. Overall the AMD 7840HS IMHO is comparable to the M1 PRO which I also own. Unless you need to run some heavy games, you do not need to lug around the heavy 230W AC adapter, I run fine on a light 65W USB-C power adapter. Also note that the LEGION comes with 8GB dedicated video memory in addition to system memory, thus 32GB is 32GB+8GB. Unified memory is in my opinion a hype when it comes to efficient sharing between system and graphics. Also you should add RAM in the second slot of the LEGION, it costs virtually nothing (I paid $1 (!) through an eCoupon) and will double your memory bandwidth. Should help on those export times. That said I prefer MAC OS over Windows11 (Like windows 7 though) and the battery life on the Mac is just fantastic. Now if only Apple would have done something on their RAM/SSD pricing, it is just crazy. Just ran Geekbench 6 on battery, no fans spinning, single core score=2265 (Yeah the M3 is almost 50% faster on battery power)
@@hurvinekspejbl6229 not because of it at all. They just place memory "close" to CPU because it works much better than external RAM you can upgrade. Also if you have enough RAM (it is sharable between CPU and GPU), Mac can use tens of GB because of that for GPU purposes. By using PC, you need several GPUs for that reason. Try to compare with AMD laptops. I never seen you comparing Apple vs AMD, maybe I missed this
About 20 years ago I bought quite expensive gaming PC with racing wheel, side winder for Combat flight simulator and Panzer general. Toca race driver was a real disappointment , the wheel did not learn to work properly whatever I did with settings. After 3 years the PC just did not work anymore. I bought several MacBook airs, I drove Toca race driver with them. I have now Intel MacBook Pro i9, 16 ram, I really enjoy playing Company of heroes 2 with it, and some total war too. this machine is 5 years old and works just like a new one. I would very much like to get a windows laptop too, while remembering my fate with a PC gaming desktop.
AMD laptops have pretty good battery life, I think they are a good middle ground. I see a lot of people at work struggling with M1 Macs which are not great at a lot of workflows. But people choose Macs if they can, don't ask me why.
The Mac laptops are good for RUclips content creators. They have optimized video pipelines, both hardware and software. The PC laptops are for gaming and serious software development, particularly in the enterprise space. I use both so no sacrifices on my end.
Really funny. What is serious software development that can be done in Windows and not on Mac ??? As soon I read "good for RUclips content creators" I knew that you don't know what are you talking about. I really don't see single thing on Mac that cannot be done same or better than on Win ? Are you aware that Windows is still at least 5 years behind MacOS ?

I agree! Max and Vadim let’s get this comparison! Also the full M2 Max vs the new M3 Max, but binned version. Basically which is better, the highest end M2 Max or the lowest end M3 Max?
Why get a laptop if all you do is leaving it plugged in. Wouldnt a good itx build be a better option if so. When comparing a laptop to another the battery life is one of the biggest factors when chooaing one. I havent had a macbook yet but seeing the battery life and the good performance of them is turning my focus of Windows laptops to macbooks for the first time ever. It is crazy to say but macbook is my pick of these two.
I think by leaving it plugging he doesn't mean letting it sit in one place plugged in. For example, I use my laptop at home mostly plugged in, when in class I will use it plugged in whenever possible if the class is over 4 hrs and if it's just a short ~2-4 hrs class that day I will just not bring the charger and use it just from the battery. So I still use it basically plugged in most of the time, but the portability of the laptop is still important. As for battery life, mine could certainly go 7-8 hours for video playback, but since I find that I can use it plugged in most of the time, I limit the battery to 60% to maximize battery health and always use it plugged in whenever possible.
Ive been a die hard pc fan for the last 20 something years and recently got an M2 pro. Aside from just being fedup with all the windows updates, bloatware, horrible battery life on laptops and the fact that pc laptops with similar specs are just as expensive as macbooks . What really gave me the final push was the fact that my friend has a macbook from 2014 that he still uses and since about that same time ive gone thru at least 3 laptops(first gen surface, a lenovo and have had to replace the battery on my xps) benchmarks are great, but unless youre getting a computer just to run benchmarks they dont tell the whole story. Though i dont really ever see myself switching to an apple desktop.
It's a common myth that windows laptops are slower in battery mode. This solely depends on the settings. You can get 100% of performance in battery mode. Yet most Laptops come with defaults settings using less power in battery mode. It was always one of the first settings I change, when setting up a new laptop. In general you should check your usability and adjust the settings which fit your use case.
@@GustavoNoronha You have to look at it more in detail. There are 3 different scenarios: 1. You just set your battery setting to best performance. 2. You need to go to windows energy settings and set the CPU Performance to 100% when in battery mode. 3. You need to go to the BIOS and adjust the settings there and/or do a BIOS update (happens often with HP Laptops). At least the third option won't be suitable for a beginner or casual user. But these people usually don't need 100% performance anyway.
@@petroskraitsis I know all that, and I also know how to set and configure the power governors under Linux, some chips and laptops just won't do it regardless of configuration, they are hardwired to do that - even if you set everything to extreme.
In my last two contracts as an embedded software developer I was lent £1,000 laptops from Lenovo and HP. Both worked for a reasonably long time on a battery because they were not being run in performance mode. They were both fast enough in power saving mode for my needs. A Mac would not have been able to run any of the software development tools I needed to use without resorting to Rosetta and so these two companies did not consider buying me a MacBook for a second. All of these tools might have run under Rosetta, although the fact that one of the tools required a dongle makes me doubt this. RUclips reviewers mainly use their laptops for video editing which is why they rave about MacBooks which excel in this task. Unfortunately the majority of the obscure apps that I use only run under Windows.
Macs also tend to stay relevant longer too, I've owned several PC's - still use a custom build for my main system, but with laptops, a PC will become little more than a paper weight within a few years, where you really can count on great performance with your mac for at least 5 years as long as you buy into it up front and don't grab the base model. Even then the base model will hold out longer vs the equivalent windows PC if you don't memory swap it into an early death. It all depends on what you need it for though, if you don't have or want to spend the money PC laptops are great short term devices that will get you everything you need. If you need something for creative work or work in general, a mac will give you more performance for your money over a longer period of time.
oh really? 8gb in 2023? non-up gradable? nice.. It is a common misconception that, apple devices work smoothly over time, your windows PC will be as good as a macbook. I used a 12 year old PC with some upgrades and I even played modern AAA games with it. @@sholmes_ttyyHe literally just said LAPTOP? The debate isn’t whether a PC lasts longer than a desktop Mac, the debate is whether the Laptop is reliable as long, and generally the answer is no. In the Desktop world a Pc with upgrades will last longer, but even then once you need a new motherboard and graphics card you literally are paying the same price for one component as the entire new Mac, so even there its only cheaper if you don’t want to upgrade as often.

It is as simple as this: if you need a computer that does something more than office, web and multimedia editing, a windows computer with a RTX card is a much better option. So if you want to spend 2000-3000€ on a computer that ALSO allows you to game, 3D and gives you expansion in a cheap way, a windows computer is the way. You also can add external GPUs, what on a Mac it is not possible anymore.

The issue is a bit complex than just a fan noise. The situation we are enountering indicates thats there is no optimization and coordination between operating system creators, processor manufactorers and pc brands. Binned is when a chipset has lower cores than the designed amount. The 3nm process has low yields meaning that many chipsets have cores that do not pass the testing process. So, Apple turns these off, and sells the chipset as binned. This is sensible for e-waste reasons and obviously reduces the costs.
Embarking on a thought-provoking experiment, I orchestrated a compelling competition between two formidable operating systems, namely macOS Ventura and openSUSE Tumbleweed. To ensure an equitable playing field, the battleground was set on desktop systems of identical power, creating an environment conducive to a comprehensive and unbiased assessment of their respective capabilities. The goal was clear: to delve into the intricacies of their performance across a diverse array of tasks, spanning routine computing endeavors to more demanding and resource-intensive workflows. As the contest unfolded, a discernible pattern emerged, ultimately culminating in openSUSE Tumbleweed claiming victory. Notably, the open-source operating system demonstrated a nuanced edge, operating with a perceptible speed and efficiency advantage over its macOS counterpart. This unexpected outcome sparked a deeper inquiry into the contributing factors that elevated openSUSE's performance during the competition.

I guess it's still true that there are more apps available for Windows then Mac. But, that really depends on what area you are in to. In the greater creative space many app, and plug in developers have a Mac first policy. Windows will have to wait. So it really depends.

@@blinblinthing Adobe does support Mac and PC roughly equally, especially today. But if you look at the history, the following apps were all released on the Mac first, with Windows versions sometimes not available until years later: Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and more; and the other early pioneer applications Aldus (acquired by Adobe) After Effects, PageMaker, FreeHand. More recently, Affinity Photo (a primary Photoshop competitor) and Affinity Designer (Illustrator competitor) were introduced Mac-only in 2015 by Serif, which until then had only made Windows-only graphics apps. As Adobe did with many apps, Serif waited a while before porting their Affinity line to Windows. And by the way, the first versions of Microsoft Excel and (originally Forethought) PowerPoint were also released on the Mac only, brought to Windows later. Word existed in an MS-DOS command-line version first, but the GUI version was released on Mac before Windows.
I have both of them, using for different purposes and what can i say.. As a laptop - definiteltly MAC. Build like a tank + great portability (due to size, battery, unplugged pefomance and speakers). No windows can beat a MAC at being a good laptop. As a general machine/PC replacement/gaming center - definitely Windows. As it is just more versatile and powerful with all those RTX-s, plus probably cheaper as well. So if you really planning to travel a lot with your laptop and use it eveyrwhere unplugged - consider macs. If this is your only laptop or you will be using it mostly at home in controlled environement (plugged) - go for windows. i bought this mac a 1-2 years ago for general use purposes, and i knew that it has swap. when i run some AI coding, it was using up to 24 gb of swap giving me 32gb in total, so idk no big issues here. regarding ssd, as it was featured even on this channel, you would swap your laptop much sooner for any other reasons before your mac ssd goes really dead. i usually have lots of things open and the mac still able to function relatively fast and smoothly which is impresive for 8gb! however rn, in 2023, i would definitely get 16. i mean standarts are changing :)@@shaf3006
I don't overpay for ram or storage to any manufacturer, specially Apple that rips you off. That's the main reason I use Windows laptops and pc's. And good luck with soldered ram and ssd in Macs , if they ever fail you overpay for service too.
You also forgot to mention that for accessibility features, MacBooks are far more advanced than their Windows counterparts. The accessibility features on Mac are built into the software and are constantly updated with improvements along with the rest of the software. Meanwhile, the built-in accessibility features on Windows are either too complicated or lacking that we would rather install third party accessibility software, which often has the downside of requiring the purchase of a super overpriced license just to be able to fully use it. I honestly do also think that MacBooks are way cheaper for those of us who use accessibility features such as screen readers in the long run.
@@Mr10usdad also, if you decide to buy a laptop directly from Microsoft, those are also overpriced and their accessories as well. Can you believe that to purchase a new charger for the Surface 2 laptop it costs $95?

One thing Macs lack is Bootcamp. All we can use now are VM's. If Apple doesn't share their hardware in Windows 11/12, I'll be switching to a Windows PC from my 2020 27" iMac in the future. Unfortunate, but that's economy and reality. I actually like macOS and Mac design quality more.
I am hoping MS will allow dual boot of Windows on Macs but I suspect Qualcomm may have a deal with MS to allow their ARM Windows machines to have a free reign.
Saying Resolve is better is exceptionally subjective without additional context. Most editors find Resolve faster at WHAT? Exports is what you meant to say but 98% of an editor’s time is spent on the actual editing; and Final Cut has the magnetic timeline which is objectively faster for many workflows
Pretty much everything was faster on Windows for me, from export to timeline performance, on my Windows 11 desktop compared to the M2 Max I had (and send back). It's a 5950x with a 2080Ti and 64gb of RAM, so somewhat old hardware. I sort of drank the kool-aid on how "superior" Apple Silicon was, and discovered it's really only better on battery. Add denoise or similar filters and the apple silicon REALLY slows down.
Sadly I use both - my Mac is best for overall productivity but my Windows and Linux box is best for gaming, still there are have been some developments on the Mac which have made windows gaming on Apple Silicone possible. Emulation in the next generation may make it possible to switch less or not at all.
Ehh it won't be worth it just yet, st least until games support ARM based devices properly. Linux is nice for gaming performance, but compatibility can be annoying if you don't know what you're doing. (I can tell you do though.)
Does anybody know if a MAC Time Machine backup can be somehow used on a Windows system? Is there any method where the TM can be converted to the other system? Just thinking if I were to buy a PC, would it be possible to restore the MAC TM backup on a Windows system? Thanks.
As far as I'm aware, no. Time Machine backs up what's known as an "Image" which basically is a complete snapshot of your system, INCLUDING Mac OS X. It's impossible to separate the Mac OS X from the rest of the software. Because PC's cannot use Mac OS X, the PC would be unable to use the Time Machine Image. Your best bet would be to back up individual files you use such as documents, etc. Then you can install the programs you need on the Windows system and import those individual documents you backed up. Yes, this is more work, but it's typically a one-time thing unless you have problems in the future that require you in reinstall Windows.
@@Spladoinkal Thank you for such a thorough response. Last week, my old iMac was failing, and I used Recovery to see if things could be fixed, but nothing was working and a message said to deal with Apple. Now, everything is gone, so it appears, but I have a hunch that the files could be recovered. Would you have any advice on how to do this? The new iMac does not recognize the drive as a Time Machine backup drive, but I am wondering how to recover and restore the previous backup files to their original state, so the drive can again be recognized and used. Or, is it not possible? Thank you again.
@sashineb.2114 you're welcome! Hmm for that it's hit and miss. Here's the thing: When you erase data, it's not fully gone until the space that the data sat on is overwritten with more data. I went Windows, with a Asus Zenbook S. Worst decision. Windows 11 drives me crazy, some of the most basic stuff, sometimes work, other times won’t, randomly, for example right click on a taskbar item. In this device, every component power throttles like crazy, resulting in lag every time you actually need to do something. SSD performance write speed are decent for about 6GB, then it drops to under 100MB. Read speeds work normally. There is no option to stay awake but have the screen off, I have sleep set to never, and it stills go to sleep a while after the screen turns off. There is no option to dim the screen. Sometimes, while closed and in sleep, it just drains the battery, so I never know what I have when I get to a destination. Battery life dropped down significantly in a year I have owned this laptop, even though most of the time I only charged it to 60%. Using DxO Photolab software, the same software that works fine on a Windows desktop, randomly result in sudden rebooot of the computer. There is no error, no software crash, just instant reboot, from what I see is always when it’s using the GPU but not all the time reboots, just randomly. And many, many other issues. Apple computers may not be perfect, but buying a PC laptop was the worst decision.
Hey, this comparison is not at all fair to windows... you should have used a 7845hx cpu for this test, which would have had much better efficiency. Even if you only know about intel, use a 13620H or 13700H at max... i9 base varient processors (not the 13980HX) are worse than i7 in most cases...
Apple has changed their SOC model for the M3. Before (M1 and M2), they created one SOC that covered all bases. But now they are designing specific SOC for each chip (M3, M3 Pro & M3 Max). So, it is now more expensive.
Btw remember to also consider AMD laptops. They’re better than Intel. Some windows laptops have good hardware, but Windows just ruins them. Windows 11 is a complete and utter joke. Have fun with Microsoft essentially forcing you to use edge with every feature update. They ignore real issues with windows only to focus on the latest shiny new feature, which at the moment is forcing AI into literally everything they fart out. Mean while you still can’t place the task bar at the side or at the top and the settings are still strewn across two different apps. Something that has been the case for over 11 years. Windows search still is a disaster and the explorer is becoming slower than my dead grandma. The context menus have a lovey delay so it feels like shit to use and you have to click twice for the proper right click menu because they’re incapable of porting the old one. The widgets are literally useless and are only there to sell ad space and your data. The task manager is pathetically slow and is worse in every single way compared to its previous iteration. And how can I not forget about edge. A browser so incredibly bloated that Microsoft has to automatically launch it at system startup and keep it running in the background to make it feel “faster” than other browsers. As long as Microsoft is involved rest assured that windows will keep getting worse. The only reason it’s so ubiquitous is because people are used to it and most of the things they use are from Microsoft too. So why bother learning something new.
The resale of a Mac may be better, but I think we should mention that you can generally get windows machines on sale or discounted. So the lower upfront cost offsets the reduced resale value.
that's starting to happen with apple too these days, the discounts aren't as deep, but if you looked hard enough you could get close to a $500 discount on m3 max in the last month and they just launched. Apple's sales figures are going down so in turn they are starting to be more competitve, finally.
@@MrMoviePhoneEx a $500 discount on a $3200 machine is nice, but not as good a $300 to $500 discount on a $1500 windows machine. Also, considering how much you overpay on MacBook upgrades, that Mac discount won't hit the same value.

I love the comparison videos, as I am trying to decide between Mac and Windows as my next computer. My main use is for photography, and last year Adobe Lightroom Classic introduced Denoise AI, that really is a challenge to my present Windows PC, and the reason why I'm looking for a new computer. For this reason, it would be interesting for me to see Denoise AI tested, with f.ex. 10 files, that could be 60MP files from the Sony A7RIV you have. It's not so hard to find tests with different GPU's for windows computers, but for Mac's it's a different story.
similar performance that costs more watts is weaker performance in my book. Stop giving these companies a pass just cause they overclocked your cpu/gpu for you.
Certainly Apple does not pay more for RAM and SSD than any other company. If they just weren’t so greed in selling those, Macs would be a much better value than windows. 256Gb storage and 8GB of Ram pro laptops on 2016? Bad. On 2024? Ridiculous!!!
I thought the Dynamic Refresh Rate (seen in this video) was similar to the variable refresh rate on Macs. Am I wrong? If that's the case, then this video is inaccurate.
An industrial designer, the overall value of the laptop should be based on the hole package that the brand offer in the product, not just performance. Im still liking more MacBooks than Win Laptops for the fact those are superior in build quality, better battery life, energy management and efficiency, materials, superior screen, better speakers, and other stuff. I went for an M3 Max to for this reasons, not just for RAW performance as many others only determinate value on it. Win laptops are getting greater overtime, but personally, I cant risk getting without battery on my work when Im not home for a long time, depend on a good monitor because the laptop's one is average for my design and art works (unless it is a ProArt lap), and taking extra space and look goofy with a transformer looking laptop with RGB and a massive power brick in front of a client. Efficiency, realiability, build quality, good screen and elegance were the key values that made choose the M3 Max, performance was secondary, and if I need it for heavy 3D projects, I send them to my RTX 4090 PC. True! The vast majority are used for casual computing, or office stuff. Then there is the gaming sector. These are far more relevant than a niche creator YT bubble.

I mean, sure, maybe the screen on some of them. Defenitely not all of them would have a noticeable difference with the right settings, even with the showcase effect. Maybe the speakers, but who doesn't use a bluetooth speaker or headphones anymore? As far as I know, that's more of a gimmicky thing most brands completely stopped playing with in the early 2010s. The battery thing is just flat out not real, it's a settings thing. Which is actually in your advantage to be able to tune, unlike the mac...

Apple got too greedy. They should have already increased base RAM AND SSD specs at list by 2x considering how much cheaper those components now cost.

About 20 years ago I bought quite expensive gaming PC with racing wheel, side winder for Combat flight simulator and Panzer general. Toca race driver was a real disappointment , the wheel did not learn to work properly whatever I did with settings. After 3 years the PC just did not work anymore. AMD laptops have pretty good battery life, I think they are a good middle ground.

Some laptops will still slow down even in the highest performance mode when on battery
@@GustavoNoronha But that's the thing, not all of them suffer the same thing
@@kyordannydelvalle523 yeah, but it does not depend solely on settings as claimed - most I've owned did not keep it regardless of settings
@@GustavoNoronha You have to look at it more in detail. There are 3 different scenarios:
Unfortunately the majority of the obscure apps that I use only run under Windows.
every windows laptops can slow down when they use battery powered without the main plug in
Macs also tend to stay relevant longer too, I've owned several PC's - still use a custom build for my main system, but with laptops, a PC will become little more than a paper weight within a few years, where you really can count on great performance with your mac for at least 5 years as long as you buy into it up front and don't grab the base model.

When people keep computers for a long time resale value is irrelevant
It is as simple as this: if you need a computer that does something more than office, web and multimedia editing, a windows computer with a RTX card is a much better option. So if you want to spend 2000-3000€ on a computer that ALSO allows you to game, 3D and gives you expansion in a cheap way, a windows computer is the way. Nah, just use it in quiet or silent mode. It may run warmer but it's no biggie especially if you are doing a browser only.
The issue is a bit complex than just a fan noise. The situation we are enountering indicates thats there is no optimization and coordination between operating system creators, processor manufactorers and pc brands. What is a “binned” MacBook pro? What does that even mean? I keep hearing this in many of your videos.
Binned is when a chipset has lower cores than the designed amount. The 3nm process has low yields meaning that many chipsets have cores that do not pass the testing process. So, Apple turns these off, and sells the chipset as binned. This is sensible for e-waste reasons and obviously reduces the costs.

Mac first? What creative apps are you referring to, because I'm sure Adobe supports both equally.

I am not into audio, but have the same experience, if you operate outside of Adobe that is 😉👍🏻
@@blinblinthing Adobe does support Mac and PC roughly equally, especially today.

True, intel is a no-go for laptop CPU, they should really make something new at least.
Question, is making more ram or ssd space on an SOC a more expensive manufacturing process?
Competition has forced windows to step up and thats a good thing. Only thing left is to go ARM to improve battery life
Could you please make a comparison between Surface laptop studio 2 and macbook pro 14 in M3
Same can be said about Mac. Amazon often has major discounts on those products
@@MrMoviePhoneEx a $500 discount on a $3200 machine is nice, but not as good a $300 to $500 discount on a $1500 windows machine.
Also, considering how much you overpay on MacBook upgrades, that Mac discount won't hit the same value.
@@wawbagel on the high-end ones that are overpriced. Once yours spending $2500 on a MacBook, I'm pretty confident you can save like $500 getting a windows laptop.
@@MrMoviePhoneEx Where are you seeing sales like that on the M3 Max?
Was the PC unplugged this time??!?
I love the comparison videos, as I am trying to decide between Mac and Windows as my next computer.
My main use is for photography, and last year Adobe Lightroom Classic introduced Denoise AI, that really is a challenge to my present Windows PC, and the reason why I'm looking for a new computer.
For this reason, it would be interesting for me to see Denoise AI tested, with f.ex. 10 files, that could be 60MP files from the Sony A7RIV you have.
It's not so hard to find tests with different GPU's for windows computers, but for Mac's it's a different story.
Don’t do the expensive mistake I made, don’t buy an Apple. Overpriced for everything
you did not even touch on the open Source software
what laptop is at 0:44?
similar performance that costs more watts is weaker performance in my book. Stop giving these companies a pass just cause they overclocked your cpu/gpu for you.
went to the mac store and opened microsoft word on the mac book pro. that was all i needed to convince me i dont need a macbook.
Certainly Apple does not pay more for RAM and SSD than any other company. If they just weren’t so greed in selling those, Macs would be a much better value than windows. 256Gb storage and 8GB of Ram pro laptops on 2016? Bad. On 2024? Ridiculous!!!
I’m ready to get rid of my MBP 16 M2, my external SSD drives keep disconnecting, I never had that issue with windows at all.
I thought the Dynamic Refresh Rate (seen in this video) was similar to the variable refresh rate on Macs. Am I wrong? If that's the case, then this video is inaccurate.
Remember Guys, this Lenovo Laptop was sponsored
I'll say it again, having a silent mac is worth the extra money, I cannot stand the sound of roaring fans on a PC.
Great video!
If performance was secondary, then why did you go for an M3 Max?
@@marcusrauch4223 Because in many cases I need to open heavy 3D files and work on them while Im not home. The point is to have enough versatility to work and edit on any file without compromises in any place, I dont care that much if the Mac doesnt get "x" fps, or "x" render times, but I need the M3 Max juice to move things around.
As long as modern standby exists, I will never even look at a windows laptop. The second that abomination is removed from the windows ecosystem then the mac or windows debate can resume, but for now Windows is a total write off based on that alone.
Even Apple-hater Linus acknowledges this windoze disadvantage in comparison to any Mac.
MacBook has Grammarly
Ever since I discovered I can run WSL on a windows machine for me development work. The dream of buying a macbook has greatly reduced to just a nice to have. Since I'll still have the Customization and familiarity and have a reasonably priced device.
And in the long run I can upgrade components easily.
I think the title should just be MacBook vs Legion. A lot of these change laptop to laptop.
Edit: a better option would be an a Dell XPS in my opinion
I really hate to be that guy here but... let's face it, Intel performance has been sucking as of late. Their chips run hot and chow down on power. I'd really like to see you demonstrate the performance of an AMD processor equipped notebook; specifically the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS or the slightly higher end AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU.
The drop in performance while on battery compare to Apple, is this a battery technology thing....?
On Windows you get great performance if you plugged in the cord…
On Mac you get great performance if you just pay some extra $1000…
Good and very fair comparison! 👍 It's ridiculous how windows laptops in 2023/24 still have crappy battery life and use so much more power for the same performance. If you need to be plugged in to do serious work, you might just as well get a desktop PC 😂Also, that power brick on the lenovo 💀need a separate backpack for it lmao
If they were the opposite you would say "Who doesnt run their laptops plugged in?" now that Windows laptop have very good performance now you only care about battery life
Kinda also ridiculous how Apple charges 1600€ for a "Pro" laptop with 8gb of Ram in 2023
@@ThePgR777unfortunately they are not, and everyone cares about battery life, I don’t understand why you think no one should
@@NebulaFactoryyou aren’t forced to buy them, but you are forced to have a crappy battery when you buy a windows laptop
@@2COLD118 Lots of people dont, I have my working laptop plugged in all the time, and I need the portability because some days I work on the office and some days in my house, everytime Im plugged in, even then that Windows laptop have 9 hours battery life, more than enough for a day of work
I kinda had to go for a macbook air. I needed a fanless laptop for coding, that could also handle photo editing (specifically, AI noise reduction) - nobody apart from apple offers that.
Is it the 15 inch M2?
Why fanless?
Bruh I just looked at pricing for a macbook pro, its 2000€ and only has 8gb ram???? What... why would anyone pay 2k for a laptop with 8gb ram in 2024, that shit is wild to me.
I miss windows 🥺
For photo and video editing, I wish to see users would easily switch the operations platform when necessarily. For industries standard, all my raw files for editing were stored in adobe file format. we love to take the advantages from both system. for example a fanless audio recording and editing, using the highest access speed to external storage with either Mac or windows. it is always good to see good competitions between windows and mac, if possible, we would like to see more linux apps too.
Owners of M3 told me the screen gets very hot and will conk out in 1.8 years, Replacement from Apple is around USD$400
Yeah, a laptop is used only for photo and video editing😂. These reviewers are hilarious😂.
True! The vast majority are used for casual computing, or office stuff. Then there is the gaming sector. These are far more relevant than a niche creator YT bubble.
Why not both?
I was just choosing my next laptop this jan and I chose an Asus Vivobook Pro 15. I got 3K, 120hz oled display with DC dimming, Ultra 9 with RTX 4060 graphic card for gaming, 24G of ram, 4TB storage for games and music and it’s only the price of a mid specs M3 Macbook Air.
Why no link to the Lenovo Legion computer?
Has Apple ever even been close to be better than a Windows laptop if you compare them at a price-to-performance ratio though?
I mean, sure, maybe the screen on some of them. Defenitely not all of them would have a noticeable difference with the right settings, even with the showcase effect. Maybe the speakers, but who doesn't use a bluetooth speaker or headphones anymore? As far as I know, that's more of a gimmicky thing most brands completely stopped playing with in the early 2010s. The battery thing is just flat out not real, it's a settings thing. Which is actually in your advantage to be able to tune, unlike the mac...
