They overtook the Beatles in sales, and to this day they are regarded as the pinnacle of rock music/band. Total icons, legends. I'd say Pink Floyd could be next in line however. Rolling Stones might me next in line?

"Whole Lotta Love" recorded and dropped in 1969. No auto-tune or computer-generated anything - what you just heard is exactly how they sounded. Led Zeppelin is a band consisting of four of the most gifted musicians in rock history.
Jimmy Page - guitarist/band founder/genius producer - age 25 when this was recorded
    Robert Plant - vocals/harmonica - age 20
John Paul Jones - bass/keys/anything with strings - age 23
John Bonham - monster on drums - age 20
What's going on in the middle? Their sonic version of an orgasm. I have a recommendation for you. Don't interrupt the music so much. You're messing with the vibe. ;)

Led Zeppelin is the name of the band not the name of the lead singer(Robert Plant). Back in the day around the late 60s then faded away in the late 70s they came out with quadraphonic sound like todays 4.0 surround sound. Anyway, if I recall correctly most of Led Zeppelin's albums were recorded on quadraphonic sound?
So when reacting to Led Zeppelin you should wear head phones to get the full effect of their songs. If you indulge in lefthanded tobacco that goes hand in hand with the Led Zeppelin experience that takes the listening to their music experience to the next level but you have to wear the head phones to get the full effect. The song you played today with headphones on is incredible when it goes from one speaker to the other is amazing. It's like the sound goes right through your head from one ear to the other. The louder you can handle the volume the better with this kind of music.
This is one of the greatest Rock and Roll bands of their time with the only ones to compare to them is when Metallica came to rise.
Take a listen to Led Zeppelins "Heartbreaker" next if you want?

No digital tuning or enhancements, no drum loops, no pre-recorded sequences......just God given talent right there. It is incredible but this is definitely one of the most impressive songs of this band, the brutal sound of the instruments, the prolonged musical solo, Robert's vocalizations that at the time this band was persecuted and branded by a group of occult conservatives, from In fact, it was widely said that Robert's vocalizations were a kind of invocation. Every time I listen to it I get goosebumps. It is wonderful!

I started listening to Led Zepplin in 1974. I was a 14 year old stoner. Now I’m a 62 year old stoner and still listening to them. Along with Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Yes and many others. One tip on classic rock is there are different versions of songs. Edited radio versions (usually around 3 minutes) and the original longer versions (usually over 5 minutes) that were on the albums. For what it’s worth, I prefer the longer versions.

I think I started following you originally because of the Elvis Presley reactions. But yeah man Led Zeppelin is one of the greats. They really are. British band started in the late '60s was dominant all through the '70s and then they're amazing drummer John Bonham affectionately known as Bonzo died early like happened so often right and so they're very last album was called into the outdoor and it's amazing. But this is the early stuff and they shot out of that British scene and Robert Plant just had this voice man and the lady's fucking loved him. But did you notice what Jimmy Page was doing on the guitar? And that so-called weird section in the middle? He was playing it with a violin bow and shredding horse hair like crazy of course. There's actually a lot of footage of him doing that in concert. But you know I think at the time the part that was throwing you off, and I've seen this happen with other people reacting that are unfamiliar with this kind of music and that era of music is it just seems like it lacks Focus all the sudden but the fact is it's almost bordering on jazz, you've got Bonzo back there holding down the click beat with his left foot on the hi-hat and occasionally doing symbol work right? And then plants doing his weird shit and then Jimmy Page with the bow and it's very sexual it's very sexual but at the time it seemed very trippy. Very trippy. And it's going from ear to ear, this was all new at that time nobody had ever heard anything like this before. I mean fast forward all the way to hip hop and now you don't have to have the bass drum in the middle like they always recorded it you can have like one Kick Drum in your left ear and another one like slightly right of Center and another one kind of up high you know and everything else like a jigsaw puzzle. This was really the first step in that kind of direction to where you can do whatever you want man. They made a huge impact right out the gate man I'm not lying. Hey check out another one out there very first album, it's called babe I'm going to leave you. Please do the studio cut if you can. It's a mix of like kind of acoustic sounding and then it goes off and then it's back to acoustic sounding and it's a ballad it's this guy that's torn, he knows he's feeling a spirit that he's got to ramble and he's got to leave this woman but the further you get into the song it gets more and more ambiguous as to whether he's actually capable of doing that because he loves her so much he's very torn and conflicted and the music represents that. It goes from really Resolute to really emotional and back and you got Jimmy Page over there doing like full makeup Spanish guitar shit and of course Bonzo's always great never forget John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards. These guys were insanely talented but those early albums you just hear the raw force of it. Like most bands they evolved and I love the way they evolved and it was over all too soon when bottom died but oh well. There's a legacy of several albums. Glad you acted this man.

Shake for me girl, I wanna be your backdoor man.....see many songs from the 70's were not just great rock but also instruction manuals, it's like all those 70's porn movies, all you had to do was bring a date to one and say Yeah see that, do that...Led Zeppelin was a GROUP, founded by Jimmy Page formerly of The Yardbirds....I don't have the room here, just Google them and you'll get the history, this is from their second album but it's those first 4 albums between 1969 and 1971 that are mind boggling, best to just listen to them all and take it from there, the only group that has 4 in a row on that level is Pink Floyd, just do what we did back in those days, 50 years ago and yes I am quite the fossil, a little beer, wine and pot though...what a glorious time to be a teen. OK on this level try The Immigrant Song and from that first album How Many More Times and that 4th album...well all of it but When The Levee Breaks will do for a start and why are you reading this still....JUST GO!!!

This is actually an edited version of the song-the interlude which threw you off a bit was part psychedelic in nature in that if you were high at the time and listened to music of this type-which most people were at the time-it enhanced the experience-in other words this is what music would sound like during a "trip"-off balance with a touch of vertigo thrown in.

In earlier days (say, The Yardbirds) that middle section would have been called a "rave-up". By this time, we were starting to call it "the freakout"...It was not uncommon for even much more commercially mainstream pop and rock songs to maybe have some sort of free form jam in there. This would give them a little more underground cred, and they could always edit it out for a single release.

You should have used some decent over-ear headphones for this one. Not only does it sound a lot better but you'll hear the stereo effects, which make a huge difference. This is true for most classic rock.
Btw, Zeppelin are the 2nd biggest group in history, after the Beatles! In terms of talent, success, sales, innovation and influence, 3 acts are in a league of their own, ahead of everyone else... The Beatles, Pink Floyd and, of course, Led Zeppelin! Not only are all 4 members leading candidates for the title of GOAT, on their particular instrument/s but there's hardly a bad song in their entire catalogue. Apart from their first album, all their studio albums and their main live double album, went to number 1 all over the World! Zeppelin are THE rock gods! :)
Btw, they're British, in case you were wondering where they were from. Then again, most of the major rock bands in history have been British, so that's no real surprise :)

One of the best songs ever. The entire song - especially that middle part - is a Robert Plant orgasm. Seriously, that's the only topic of this song. Listen again... you may need a shower after.

Robert Plant was the prototypical Rock Star. He wore women's shirts on stage because they were the shirts of the women he slept with the night before. That's why he has his chest out because the shirts were too small to close, lol.
