I wish the animation industry was still like this, or even in the 90's when they blended hand drawn stuff with the 3D stuff. Nothing beats the look of a well done hand drawn/ painted animated movie.

2D and 3D are both charming in their own ways, if done correctly. Blending 2D drawing animation with 3D CGI is a unique idea by creators. The Little Mermaid, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tarzan and Treasure Planet are the biggest examples! :) 3D animation also has charm as long as you utilize them correctly. Just look at Toy Story, that first movie from Pixar still looks charming for a 90’s movie with the limitations of its time. ^^

Such a lovely documentary, how awesome to see how this movie was made. The amount of work and effort it took... it’s amazing. Well done Walt. I never realized how popular this film was back in the 30’s, but that’s only because we’re not around back then to witness it. I’m sure it was as popular as Frozen in those days if not more. And I’m surprised no one mentioned Angela Lansbury doing the narration for this documentary. It was wonderful hearing her voice here. So much nostalgia!
Shanthini Mahendran I was going to, but say it referring to her by one of her characters such as Mrs Potts from Beauty and the Beast or Eglantine Price from Bedknobs and Broomsticks
@Harry Royle I didn't mean in the video, I meant in the comment section. I know it's credited in the vid, but not a lot of people in the comments mentioned her lovely voice.

The most beautiful animated film ever. In my opinion, no other animated film is as great. Not even The Lion King or Frozen could hold a candle against Snow White.
Gisela Vemba That’s cool! 😉 everyone has his/her favorite Disney movie. For me, it’s Snow White, because it holds a special place in my heart, and it brings back lots of memories.
I can honestly say I was raised on a steady diet of Disney. Today, 61 years later, I'm a loving, doting, wife, mother, and grandmother. I don't know how much influence early, decent cartoons had on me, but I do see how sinister and awful most everything is on TV and at the movies and on social media is now. Heaven help our young people today!
true, most cartoons and 'children's' films that come out today aren't as beautifully made as they once were, you can really see how much work Disney but into their films. Disney didn't just appeal to children, it appealed to everyone, I can go back and watch Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Fantasia and all the other Disney classics and enjoy them just as much as I did when I was younger, also, some kids movies and cartoons like to pander to the audience, I am all for representation of different cultures but the way some shows do it is just awful.
The first movie I ever experienced. My older brother and I watched from the top of an old caboose that was part of a drive-in movie "complex". I think the year was 1954, I was seven. It was summertime, everybody had their car windows down, and we could hear everything. I remember thinking that this was looking at real life, condensed to about an hour and a half. I believed that what I saw was actually happening, I particularly remember crying at Snow White laid out in her glass coffin, and I was filled with joy when she came back to life. To this day, it remains my favorite feature film. This is a great documentary!
Walt was something special with the talents he had. It brought tears to my eyes as I watched/observed the making of Snow White. What an education - seeing how things were done more than 80 years in this cartoon film.
It's funny when she says it's 1937 that she thinks 1937 was when witches tried killing women who had skin white as snow hair black as a raven lips red as blood. All of these stories are from medieval or earlier times. Hansel and Gretel probably are the one closest to reality except the witch would have been the step-mom and the food would have been the children back during the time they claimed there was a crop failure because of an eruption that made eating quite impossible.
These classic fairy tales, fables stories were made so beautifully so much mischief fun aspect and that resonates with me because I am of that nature, as usual my fav. “ the wise hen”
I just want to say that they have the multi-plane camera and a lot of original concept art and animation cels at Disney family museum in San Francisco. If anyone happens to be going to San Francisco, make sure to stop by. It’s an amazing place.
Wow! Did not know about the many cut sequences which most were amusing but I believe Mr. Disney very wisely did. Also, the 20+ translations for different countries with the extra effort of customizing the graphics themselves was quite admirable! No lazy or short cut route was allowed for this classic product!🌈👌
It’s funny how the animation in this movie is fantastic even in today’s standards. In fact, the animation is better than most animated movie these days. It’s so fluid and well animated.
I love animated films, especially those which are manually drawn by group of artists made before the computer era. Surely I appreciate "old" films. I enjoy every single movement!
This is my favorite and by far the best animated film I've ever seen. The characters, sequences, animals, songs, everything is just so perfect. The innocence and humor in the movie is what is missing in most of the animations we have now. The making video should have had covered some part about the voice actors as well... I think they did a brilliant job of adding life to the characters, especially the cute dwarfs.
Rest in Peace Marge Champion as the dancing reference for the dancing scene of Snow White dancing with the dwarfs. Thank You I really do love your dancing that really bring the dancing Snow White character to life I enjoyed that. We will miss you.
Whenever I’m sick or feeling crummy, I watch the old Disney movies I grew up with. They are the visual and auditory versions of homemade chicken noodle soup.
I am 71 years old, the picture was released when my sister was born and thank God she is still alive. My father died when I was 5 years old and few things I remembered from him; but one it was when he picked me to the movie theater to watch Snow White and the seven dwarfs. So many generations enjoyed this film and I bought a remastered version to see in my TV and always a tear comes out from my eyes. God bless you Walt 👏👏👍👏♥️🌷❤️
How funny. I was just thinking, maybe I wasn't thinking but, I thought to myself: 'I wonder if anyone out there watching this now actually went to that premiere'. Course, I guess it's not impossible, but,- upon a little reflection, gathering my thoughts,, well,- that's just a little unlikely.
And how sad that Disney's hell-bent on a remake of this is guaranteed to destroy the legacy of this classic, which was the standard by which all other full-length animated films would be judged.
When I was in kindergarten my teacher asked "can anyone name a story that has the number 7 in it?'' And one kid said "The 7 pigs" I answered Snow White and the 7 dwarfs and then she read the story to us
In all my years of watching documentaries about film, animation, even about Disney and it's other making ofs, this is the first time I've ever heard Walt himself speak. And I'm struck by how miled mannered he seems, he reminds me a lot of George Lucas in that regard. A quite man, but who has to be a tenacious force to be reckoned with to do the things they've done, yet they both sound like they're explaining what they did on their day off to you on a Sunday afternoon, rather than how they revolutionised an industry. You expect people like that to be these big shout personalities, but so often they're anything but.
Snow White was the first movie I ever saw in a theatre...watching this and learning about what they all went through to make it is just magical. I love animation!
It shocked me to know that they had trouble to animate the human body realistic, so much that they had to cut down the prince's appearence! I would have loved to see those scenes... It also fascinated me the part when they realice they actually care for real for the character of the princess... Now our days, snimation is well known, and this happens to every author: my comic teacher told me a character is not well done 'till you can visualice it habing a real-like conversation with you...
infinityrose92 “Male humans are the hardest to animate” I wonder why that is. Is it because you can exaggerate female features (eyes, waist), but not male features?
I study animation and yes, in our anatomy class. Our professors often gives us male models (with multiple poses) because it was way harder compared to a woman's body to draw.
@@beethovensfidelio Partly because of the exaggeration, but also because a cartoony man can't be taken seriously as a character unless the idea was to make him a joke to begin with.
The human body is hard to animate because it is always in constant movement. I also read that Disney artists found hands hard to do as well. Five fingers were hard to do.. That's why Mickey mouse has three fingers and a thumb. Easy to animate.
The concept art pieces are just exquisite! Look at that @16:52, look at the backlighting, shadows, and the general Disney feel, tone, and warmth, all in that monochrome carbon/crayon concept art piece. Wow.
The first animated movie my parents brought me to,what a beautiful memory... thanks for sharing that video,it has always been on of my biggest desire to go to the Walt Disney Studios and get a look behind the curtains to see how they work to make all those drawings and bring them to life.. What a monstrous job it was then comparing to all the technology they use now a days ,just WOWWOWWOW 🥰😍🤩💋💖💗
Walt Disney was just 65 years of age when he died of cancer in 1966. Had he not been a heavy smoker, who knows what he might have gone on to accomplish? Rest in peace, Walt.
Beautiful documentary! Ive always loved Snow White, its really a work of fine art...What we cherish about Disney is his whole style, in every cartoon it presents a dreamy and fun fantasy of a perfect world thatll always take us back to our childhood
Great video!!! I love Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs it is the best animated movie even 80 years later the most magical film ever!!!From childhood it was my favorite and The Evil Queen is probably my favorite character in film. This is a film ahead of its time and hold ups today. One of my most beloved arts doings of all time
Such a wonderful masterpiece! How sad that the company has done all they can to destroy what Walt and Roy created. Disneyland, Disney World, and all that was magical, is nothing but a joke now. There is no magic there anymore. Cast members are rude and sullen. Prices for tickets and on site rooms are beyond expensive. The films they make now are a joke. Even our beloved Disney characters are being pushed aside and replaced by non-Disney characters like Star Wars, Avatar, Marvel, and more. The amazing old Dark Rides are being replaced by thrill rides and extreme roller coasters. This is NOT the Disney that Walt dreamed of. The Disney Parks are nothing more than a theme park for the quick thrill seekers and those that have no love for Walt’s Dream. There will never ever be a Disney animated film as great as “Snow White”.
I wish the animation industry was still like this, or even in the 90's when they blended hand drawn stuff with the 3D stuff. Nothing beats the look of a well done hand drawn/ painted animated movie.

Sad she’s gone
This was trully groundbreaking. The amount of work they put in this "cartoon".
It's kind of refreshing after watching the modern snow white trailer.
I miss the times of disney animation before 2010s.
One million drawings, all hand drawn and painted, all beautiful... Simply amazing.

Big Respect to the animator’s I have watched this movies million times since my childhood this is real innocence and joy of the Disney movies ..modern CGI can never beat classic animation
Yep
The most beautiful animated film ever. In my opinion, no other animated film is as great. Not even The Lion King or Frozen could hold a candle against Snow White.
Vlad Sicoe I kinda like the lion king more than snow white
Gisela Vemba That’s cool! 😉 everyone has his/her favorite Disney movie. For me, it’s Snow White, because it holds a special place in my heart, and it brings back lots of memories.
El Jay I agree. I only compared it with them because they’re usually considered the greatest, or at least among the greatest.
I like both except frozen
I LIKE 101 DALMATIANS TOO!
Still to this day one of the best disney movies !!!! 💙💛🍎
In growing up with the classics, I still watch them this day. Thank you Walt Disney.
This is such a joy to watch!
So much talent and visual treats, wow :D
The hitch step made me laugh! :D
😂
😊
Agreed
1937
My mother was around 10/11 when Walt passed away she cried because she just love him!🌹
This is 80 years old today
Some Random Person on RUclips it's so hard to believe...the animation looks so good, even by today's standards
Molly Rose I know right
I can honestly say I was raised on a steady diet of Disney.
Is this Barbra Walters
The first movie I ever experienced. My older brother and I watched from the top of an old caboose that was part of a drive-in movie "complex". I think the year was 1954, I was seven. It was summertime, everybody had their car windows down, and we could hear everything. I remember thinking that this was looking at real life, condensed to about an hour and a half. I believed that what I saw was actually happening, I particularly remember crying at Snow White laid out in her glass coffin, and I was filled with joy when she came back to life. To this day, it remains my favorite feature film. This is a great documentary!
This is a work of art, I can't imagine the work that goes into creating an animated movie today, much less back then without computers.
Took 3 years to finish and the end product was pure gold
Thank you to everyone involved with this documentary. So nice to see how it began. I’m sure everyone could use the pallet cleanser.
The talent that was utilized for the Disney animations is astounding. I am in total awe as to how all the elements came together.
Walt was something special with the talents he had. It brought tears to my eyes as I watched/observed the making of Snow White. What an education - seeing how things were done more than 80 years in this cartoon film.
Real artist at work, wonderful
Legends say every time Rachel Ziegler speaks, 100 people grow more appreciation for the original Snow White
HAHAHA SO TRUE!!!!🤣🙌🏼
2001
It's funny when she says it's 1937 that she thinks 1937 was when witches tried killing women who had skin white as snow hair black as a raven lips red as blood. All of these stories are from medieval or earlier times. Hansel and Gretel probably are the one closest to reality except the witch would have been the step-mom and the food would have been the children back during the time they claimed there was a crop failure because of an eruption that made eating quite impossible.
Very true.
Saw this in school and haven't seen it in a LONG time. Still great to watch and learn again! Keep the kid alive!
One of Walt Disney's Best Films at The Time I Love Snow White The Seven Dwarfs The Wicked Queen is My Favorite Character in The Film!
These classic fairy tales, fables stories were made so beautifully so much mischief fun aspect and that resonates with me because I am of that nature, as usual my fav. “ the wise hen”
And after all these years... still sobbing with the dwarfs 😢
Me too ! 😭❤️
Me too😔😭
I just want to say that they have the multi-plane camera and a lot of original concept art and animation cels at Disney family museum in San Francisco. If anyone happens to be going to San Francisco, make sure to stop by. It’s an amazing place.
Nothing sounds better than hearing Mrs. Potts tell us about Snow White's history.
Animator Ruthie Tompson who worked on Snow White and many others is still alive ! She is 110 years old. What a magical life and legacy ❤❤❤
Yeah that’s something
Rest her soul, she just passed away October 10, 2021. An amazing woman!
@@suza3883 that is so sad! She lived an incredible life. If we all could be so blessed to live that long and see the things that she has seen ✌❤👑
@@suza3883yeah sad
I love animated films, especially those which are manually drawn by group of artists made before the computer era. Surely I appreciate "old" films. I enjoy every single movement!
This is my favorite and by far the best animated film I've ever seen. The characters, sequences, animals, songs, everything is just so perfect. The innocence and humor in the movie is what is missing in most of the animations we have now. The making video should have had covered some part about the voice actors as well... I think they did a brilliant job of adding life to the characters, especially the cute dwarfs.
Brilliant artistry. A true masterpiece.
Rest in Peace Marge Champion as the dancing reference for the dancing scene of Snow White dancing with the dwarfs. Thank You I really do love your dancing that really bring the dancing Snow White character to life I enjoyed that. We will miss you.
The amount of love, knowledge, inspiration and hard work in this masterpiece is incredible. 💜
When Disney was great. I hope some day someone can make Disney great again.
I hope so too...
Say hello to Alan Menken.
Yeah I know
Whenever I’m sick or feeling crummy, I watch the old Disney movies I grew up with. They are the visual and auditory versions of homemade chicken noodle soup.
*Happy Disney 100🩵💜🤍💙✨*
Wow Shirley Temple gave the award to Mr Disney, i can't deal with the star power of that. Shirley was a treasure.
Her voice and Cinderella's was so reminiscent of all that Disney was.....heartfelt, as sweet as a cup of tea...
Angela Landsbury will be missed ❤
the colors are so exciting and the work of cartooning is exceptional in this era.
How funny. I was just thinking,
maybe I wasn't thinking but, I thought to myself: 'I wonder if anyone out there watching this now actually went to that premiere'. Course, I guess it's not impossible, but,- upon a little reflection, gathering my thoughts,,
well,- that's just a little unlikely.
1937
Angela Lansbury as narrator?! LOVE HER!!! (Psst...she also narrated The Wizard of Oz: 50 Years of Magic!)
She is also the voice of Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast.
Robbie Farabee I just realized that when I read your comment.

And how sad that Disney's hell-bent on a remake of this is guaranteed to destroy the legacy of this classic, which was the standard by which all other full-length animated films would be judged.
I LOVE the naturalness and fluidity of the movement of the characters. CANNOT be duplicated by computer, because the computer has no heart.
When I was in kindergarten my teacher asked "can anyone name a story that has the number 7 in it?'' And one kid said "The 7 pigs" I answered Snow White and the 7 dwarfs and then she read the story to us
Aidan Barnes • The 7 pigs lol
The 7 🐖's?! That's so funny 😂😆😂😅😅😄
I want to know about the 7 pigs story
@@ipercalisse579 Honestly, The Wolf and the Seven Pigs is an unrealized masterpiece. It’s what The Seven Kids should’ve been
So what?!?
The scrapped parts in Snow White was used in Sleeping beuaty.
infinityrose92 “Male humans are the hardest to animate”
I wonder why that is.
Who else is watching this after becoming so disappointed that modern day Disney Company is ruining Walt Disney’s history?
ME🙋🏼♀️ So sad what they are doing.😭
@@katelynjohnson9229they're trying to "fit in" in the new generation, but that generation is ALSO demanding smt like snow white
Yup bring back the drawn Disney movies. I miss them.
Yeah
11/9/23....very late at night. I look forward to learning so much. 😊
This video helped me prove a point today❤
The concept art pieces are just exquisite! Look at that @16:52, look at the backlighting, shadows, and the general Disney feel, tone, and warmth, all in that monochrome carbon/crayon concept art piece. Wow.
This is probably my favourite video on RUclips EVER!!!! Thank you so much for sharing this
The first animated movie my parents brought me to,what a beautiful memory... thanks for sharing that video,it has always been on of my biggest desire to go to the Walt Disney Studios and get a look behind the curtains to see how they work to make all those drawings and bring them to life.. What a monstrous job it was then comparing to all the technology they use now a days ,just WOWWOWWOW 🥰😍🤩💋💖💗
Such detail and effort...
I hope that this kind of dedication and skill still exists
That's an insane amount of work.. I'm glad everyone liked what they were doing and who they worked for.
Walt Disney was just 65 years of age when he died of cancer in 1966. Had he not been a heavy smoker, who knows what he might have gone on to accomplish? Rest in peace, Walt.
Yeah because Jungle Book was the last film that Disney ever made
Amazing. The skills, the efforts, the money, the manpower. All came together and made history.
Beautiful documentary! Ive always loved Snow White, its really a work of fine art...What we cherish about Disney is his whole style, in every cartoon it presents a dreamy and fun fantasy of a perfect world thatll always take us back to our childhood
Everyone in the sound department looks like they were living their best life!
Snow White will forever be my favorite Disney Princess! I've loved her since I was a child
14:06 he has this charisma that makes you want to hear him more.
Great video!!!
I love Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs it is the best animated movie even 80 years later the most magical film ever!!!From childhood it was my favorite and The Evil Queen is probably my favorite character in film. This is a film ahead of its time and hold ups today. One of my most beloved arts doings of all time
Wow what a GENIUS DISNEY was!! THANK U FOR MAKING MY CHILDHOOD SO MUCH FUN!! & ENTERTAINING!! & Thank u for uploading this video!!
Is it strange that I get more emotional at the "making of" video than the actual movie?
