I’m definitely a fan of these new Seiko straps. They’re softer, more flexible, and better quality. I never cared for the older Seiko rubber strap since they were stiff and didn’t fit well.

Very informative video Mark! I would like to add, the best strap option for the Sumo, in my opinion is, the waffle 300m Marinemaster rubber.

Seiko straps nowadays are well build, both in terms of quality, and looks nice as well. I've been wearing SRPB55 for two months now, but from the moment I bought it from a friend of mine who is selling it via his watch store, I specifically ask him to take off the strap because I don't like seeing my skin when I'm wearing the watch. I prefer Nato or Zulu strap with diver or field watches.
My friend said the strap is made better than previous generation Seikos, and he's right. The feel of the rubber is different, it's softer and feels expensive.
If you're curious about the quality and doesn't mind seeing your skin under the watch, buy it from Marc- you won't regret it.

My first and so far only automatic, the citizen sport 100m watches you touched on in an earlier video came on a rubber strap and I was thinking of checking out what the nato hype was about as the strap was stiff but over time It's broken in and grown more and more comfortable with use. Kind of has its own character now. Prime example of why I love watches.

Thank you for the effort to make this video. It helps a lot to understand the difference between de first (stif) and second generation (softer). The links are also very useful. If I may give a small remark - because of the white background it is not easy to see the non-swet pattern on the skin side of the new generation strap. In my opinion this is a very big advantage for the wear comfort. Greets from Holland.

If you're buying an SKX and intend to wear it on a rubber strap do yourself a huge favour and get the replacement at the same time. Like many older models of Seiko (I'm looking at you Alpinist), the stock strap is horrible. It doesn't hurt having the original strap, unworn with tags attached if you ever decide to sell it either. I love that Yacht Master by the way Mark, such cool bezels on those things.

You often say you don't baby your watches, I'm the same. Do you find it a kind of weird relief when you get your first ding or scratch on a new watch? I certainly do, I feel at that point it's officially "mine" and I'm far more relaxed about wearing it after that.

Crafter blue makes a strap that fits the Seiko Sumo perfectly otherwise the gap between case and strap can be quite large. Just saying. I like my crafter blue ones. The soft silicone of these straps are really appealing tho.

  • @valueink

The Sumo looks at home on the factory bracelet, however, that rubber strap would make it much lighter and more comfortable imo. They seem to be of great quality.

Do you think the tight fit on the Samurai could cause premature failure of the 22mm fat Seiko spring bars? I recently picked up the Blue 22mm strap from Long Island to pair with my Save the Ocean Samurai. Looks really awesome, but it does indeed rub against the case... getting a little paranoid the bars will pop off due to the pressure and result in a damaged watch if it falls off my wrist. Advice?

I tried to wear my 007 on the stock strap, I think I lasted about 3 hours before it went back on a Nato. Now, the "Turtle" strap that my SNE498 came with, wow, its much better, with the only real gripe that I have is that it has a metal keeper, would much prefer a rubber one. I may just cut up my stock 007 strap and put the keeper from that onto the silicone strap.

Just purchased a Seiko SNE-435 Dive Watch second hand. I would like to purchase an optional 20mm black rubber or silicone strap to have a different look.
I have noticed, that there is a slight gap between the ends of the rubber strap and the watch case lugs.
Could I use 22mm straps, and carefully trim back the width for a closer fit?

I have a Save the Ocean Samurai arriving this week. I may add the blue silicon strap to go with it on occasion or more often than not. On your website you recommend getting the Seiko pins with this strap. Can you explain why? Is it because the original pins are not compatible or are the Seiko pins an additional upgrade that you recommend but are not necessary? Thanks. Love your content.

I think those Seiko rubber strap goes super well with the turtle. Regarding the Sumo, my choice would differ : the gap between the spring bar and the case is very large, and somehow looks awkward with a strap that doesn’t fill it up. It took me a while before I bought a black Craft Blue rubber strap. I think I’m set now. I just wish Seiko would have done the same, because it bugs me a little to have a strap that actually doesn’t say Seiko. OCD....

    Q: I have 2 Seiko divers.
SBDC053 with a wonderful silicone strap that 'follows the lugs contour with a little step.
SBDC029 Shogun titanium, which comes with a rather bland rubber strap. It also has no step to follow the lugs, and it sort of makes the watch look unbalanced.
