Playing some BF5 Conquest on Panzerstorm. Pilots just got nerfed into the ground, and Anti Air AA got buffed in the latest December patch. So lets apply some upgrades just to see how crazy both the German Flakpanzer IV Wirbelwind and the British Valentine AA MK I are. Only in Battlefield 5

It was very effective irl but there were only 87-105 made. it doesn’t have that much armor on the turret, but because it’s sloped it can deflect rifle and mace in gun bullets. It’s named Wirbelwind, witch means “Whirlwind” in English. And those flak 38 guns were deadly.

Pretty sure thats meant to be the guns adjusting for range. Means that the gunner can keep the target in the centre of the crosshair while the guns are angled up depending on the distance. Not sure to what extent thats represented fully though

Historically accurate it should be called "Ostwind" since it has one 3,7cm FlaK 36 insted of "Wirbelwind" which housed a 2 cm Flakvierling 38 but the Chassis was for both the one of the PzKpfw IV.
After having played years of Anti-Air on war thunder, I recommend the four normal machine guns with the german anti-air and combo that with the red hot onions. The 37-40mm anti-airs have always throughout history been used as anti-infantry because when fighting air targets you require quantity over quality. Especially in battlefield, one shot of a 37mm doesn't kill a plane (it should), still need the same amount of time to shoot down air planes with that as the four smaller calibre guns. They should at least make it so that you have a lower fire rate, but higher damage, resulting in more skill based game play as players need to snipe down air planes and if they're good, they can take out wings and etc.

You draw conclusions way to quickly. The incendiary rounds aren't airburst so you have to actually hit the plane, which you weren't doing. That's why you didn't do a lot of damage.
Shooting smoke at planes is where I was laughing at his conclusions.
He's a great pilot but you can smell how fresh his boots are to the ground by these videos.

The shooting smoke is a powerful defense Tool. It needs to be shot close to a hostile Tank or infantry so they cant see shit while you change to a safer Position

The quad cannons (axis, default weapon) and the 3x ones (allies, SIDEgraded weapon) are better against bombers while the single cannons are better against fighters.

As other people pointed out: The Flaming Onion rounds are *not* airburst, you have to get direct hits. They are most effective when you use the 4x20MM to get multiple hits at once. Best used on short/medium range. They can also be used to create a wall of fire on the ground

You made the wrong choice. The Bofors 40mm on the Valentine is far superior to the 3 20mm's, Also take the canister shell for the Bofors to get a 40mm shotgun for infantry.

The guy I play with a lot uses the three barrel varient with flares... he just tap fires his guns in mini busts and just destroys planes. His flares are awesome for taking flags so if you don't mind I think I will listen to him about which layout is better.
I feel that the Base cannon for the Valentine AA (its a 40mm Bofors Cannon) is better for dealing everything else besides aircraft that the triple-linked 20mm Oerlikonn Cannons, especially if you get the shotgun shell upgrade which gives you an option to switch to massive shotgun rounds that 1-2 shot infantry at a pretty long range

Too late buddy, people are already abusing the hell out of AA tank and camping at their spawn.
What worse is that this tank also great against infantry so you can't easily sneak up on it to kill it.
Only easy way to kill it is by using heavy tank, but you would probably getting bombed pretty easily by enemy bomber at that time.

@@Sike_Chill there's not much difference between a oneshot and a few MG rounds from another tank: the only case where it could matter is at close range where it may happen that you only damage a guy with the MG but then again you would be dead 99% of the times in an AA if that was the case.

They should add AA halftracks to the game. The M16 "meat chopper" with its quad-mounted .50 cals. in particular. Planes AND infantry would have a bad time against that.

I find the flares are really helpful to the team too on the British AA tank. The other benefit you mised is the German AA tank can carry a passenger gunner to help watch for ground attacks. The Birtish one doesn't have that.

Flaming rounds are good with the default cannons. You get more coverage against the infantry. Its really nice for when they want to push from say C or E to D. Those 3 middle flags will always have a group of people running all at once and you can easily burn them all up. You chew through the ammo pretty quick though.

Dude when your planes land and explode they’re so perfect. On console they bounce around and have a delayed explosion. So unrealistic

Bullet- an single unfired projectile usually used in a handheld, shoulder, or tripod mounted firearm. Shell- a payload carrying projectile fire,from artillery, vehicle or nonhanheld armament with ballistic(in this case explosive) properties. Any “bullet” weighing over 400 grams is classified as a SHELL as documented during The Hague convention.
So in conclusion, light onions on fire and then throw them at enemy infantry. Got it.

Dice should be putting out an update where lvl 50 will still be able to acquire the correct amount of CC. And i think when this update is rolled out, they will compensate lvl 50 players for the CC they missed out on. Gutting aint it?

Never heard of a valentine tank converted to an AA, I heard of for a crusader because of it's better mobility. What is even weirder is the guns stacked vertically in a enclosed turret that is meant for aa, that just limits its elevation.
You could potentially use the smoke rounds on planes strafing you to get them to crash into the ground.

On the map aerodrome allies aa tank can sitting on the spawn high ground with resupply station nearby, I got 35-0 once by doing so.
W8ting Simulator its very effective when the enemy are sitting around jerking each other off, it's much harder to stay alive against a determined enemy

The best part is that it doesn't even replace your AA rounds, it's a separate ammo you can load, so you can still destroy aircraft, and switch to canister shells for infantry.
tbh smoke of all sources is incredibly underused... it always amazes me how much the cover can help push an objective, but no one EVER seems to use it EVER. classic BFV PS4 community
Yeah, are those smoke rounds a toggle? (Like AP rounds for tanks?) If so, it seems like they'd be pretty amazing for walking a bunch of smoke up to an objective. Clearly they provide _negative_ value against air (it makes your target harder to hit for you and anyone else chasing em) but on-demand smoke is really powerful if you're running alongside your ground forces.
I purposely run medic with all smoke in the beginning of a conquest match to heal and help push into zones.
I'm curious to know what it would be like flying while getting hit with the smoke rounds. I wonder if it would smoke the cockpit and obstruct ones vision.

And yet planes where what "needed to be nerfed". Not just the JU88's 37 bomb payload, nope. All planes, and they all need a cooldown and less ammo. Dice is really outdoing themselves on this title lads.

I was in panzerstorm yesterday having the time of my life in my little JU … but some guy decided to hop into a valentine aa tank and was shooting down every aircraft in sight from the very back on the map. He shot me from the. back of US side to the resupply German side, but I could never see him. It was so annoying
Single cannon config on FlakPanzer is trash. Default x4 cannons setup is way stronger. RPM, velocity and damage are A lot higher.

Not sure if it was mentioned in outer comments, but with the AA valentine, the canister shells specialisation does not replace your AA shells, it gives you additional canisters shells you can switch to. So you can still shoot AA shells and switch to Canister shells when infantry come close.
Edit: after the fix to bomber flak resistance, the single cannon of the AA valentine is actually a very nice weapon to shoot aircraft with. slower fire, but when you get decent at landing shots consistently, it is very effective. I haven't tried the single cannon of the Flakpanzer, but I would guess it would have a similar effect.

The Wirbelwing has 4x 20mm cannons, and yes, it is a very deadly vehicle in War Thunder. Part SPAA, part tank destroyer.
The Ostwind, with the 37mm (half shown as a 20mm in BF5 Desc.), in terms of WT, puts out a little bit more kg/s down range than the 4x 20mm.
