I mean technically when you have alot more `countries` in outter space, multiple on each planet and then the status of the supposed main governing power seems to want to shuffle too many times, the value of money with no gold standard to tie them all together is just a financial nightmare with likely hundreds or even hundreds of thousands types of currencies that might as well be Theme park tokens for the majority of them, which even those tokens can change value at the drop of a lightsaber.
AKA why it seems like almost every space sci-fi centric media i know of seems to just default to the term `Credits` almost every time then deal with that logistic nightmare unless its being used purposely as a plot point via some back-water undeveloped world that still has yet to achieve space travel, sort of like how most Star Ocean games end up doing.

Makes sense, since physical money has no inherent value. It's just arbitrary numbers that translate one's contributions to society into a means of exchanging that work for goods provided by others. So for people who don't work for money as we see it, it's understandable that the concept would be difficult to grasp.

At the very least, in a galaxy where every planet likely has its own currency and a near same Imperial/Republic/Trade Federation currency, the barkeep would probably BE the local currency trader and have a decent idea of what each currency was worth using galaxy spanning communication networks, as they'd make their business finding traders willing to exhange their raw foodstuffs for a given currency.

I mean, galaxy wide it is typically republic/empire credits. The outer rim worlds i think go on a bit more of a bartering system with local currencies. Part of the space-western vibe of star wars is that a lot of story has to do with paying in weird ways.

I've always ever heard only of galactic credits, didn't know there were so many active currencies in Star Wars. Makes we wonder though, Star Wars is so far advanced and they don't have something like a debit or credit card?
Well, I guess if it's on a desert or outer rim planet it might be too rural for widespread card terminals or just doesn't have the infrastructure but still, you'd think that's something figured out so far in the future.

yeah sounds like what happens in Mexico if ur not Mexican. According to my dad who's American (Im Canadian as is my mom) when they went to Mexico the local vendors wouldn't even take Pesos (which si what Mexicans use) because they knew that as "gringos" they probably had Amerrican money which is worth more. Apparently he asked a fellow Caucasian tourist and was told "yeah that's how they do it here unless ur not white." My apologies if this seems racist as I don't mean it that way but apparently it depends where u are in Mexico ie the villages etc will take pesos from White people because its less trouble for them as the cops are sus of anyone in a small village that has American money but a lot of the tourist areas such as Cancun do this because they know they can get more value.

I mean, why would a literal galaxy use _only_ a standardized means of exchange, when everybody has their old heritage currencies and whatnot and aren't going to want to give it up?
Still, you would think that one or two of the single largest currencies would be accepted, if at a bad rate, if only because they can trade those later to a bank or something that deals with offworld traders.

There's 180 currencies in real life. But it's not a big deal. You just use whatever is commonly used in the country you're in.
