So many channels spend too much time gabbing, making jokes, not to mention cinematic intros. lol I prefer to get in and get out with the info I need vs. hang out for the day. I like your style because you SHOW what you are talking about vs. just talking about it and THEN demonstrating it. Great job. On another note, I have a quick question: If you were to choose one, would you get a speed square or a combination square? Do I need both? II am interested in woodworking, not carpentry.
That was, by far, the most informative, easy to understand RUclips instruction use video I've ever watched in my life. And what a great idea to add some postive reinforcement at the end. What a great instructor/teacher you must be. Thank you very much, sir. *And what a great way to encourage others to indirectly communicate to those that watch instructions videos, that we're not using tool's wrong. That instead to troubleshoot a solution with the tools we have. Well said, sir
I inherited a combo square from my grandpa. It sat in the bottom of my toolbox for 20 years before I found a reason to use it (I'm not a super big project kind of guy), but it came in handy when I finally needed it to rebuild a wooden fence gate.
Great information, although a bit fast paced for me 😁 I will have to re-watch a few times to soak it all in as I am not a wooder. Another use for this tool on the mechanics side of things, (which is why I got one,) is to use it to set the offset on a harley spoked wheel. Set straight edge against the hub with the square against the side of the hub. Use the level for getting it just right, and then measure the distance from the hub end to the rim. Make spoke adjustments as needed to move left or right. there ya go!
The scribe tool is used to scratch into steel plates. To cut using torch for later. Iron workers use this too everyday to get 45° angles on a plate and make cuts.
Thanks for the video I use a lot of your educational videos to guide my self thru projects.just wanted to say thank you your a pretty good teacher and the way you explain things I get it pretty quickly. Thank you sir 🙏
I came looking to see how a combo square worked, because I was going to buy just a plain old normal square to realign my daughter's wonky wardrobe. Now I'll get the combo square. Thanks for the video, it was informative and to the point😊👌🏾👍🏾
Great video. I bought the combo ruler to measure depth. Did not know the countless other uses. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Much apprexciate it.
Thank you for an awesome channel. Been wood working for about a year and appreciate the useful information.... Learned so much from this video.. Particularly the blade angle setup for the table saw.....
So glad I came across your channel. Bought one of these recently for something else and you showed me so many different uses. Especially my older miter saw. Thank you.
Excellent insights, well thought out and nicely presented! I'd never taken the time to see everything this little tool could do. I think I'll keep using my punch over the scribe tool though...so much easier whenever you're awkwardly off balance with only one hand available!
Beautiful! I use a 4-1/2” & 7” speed/rafter square @ work but I’ve always wondering what was the diff was with a combo square... looking all fancy 😂 Outside of potential accuracy I guess, Thanks! Next I’m gunna figure out what the dastardly “double square” is used for 😃
@@kobragangbitfirst you need to have a square with a hole. Assuming you have one this is how you do it. First adjust the square to where you want it so you can make the right size circle. Be sure the 45 degree angle is facing up. Next put a nail through the hole in the ruler and hold it tightly Then put a pencil in the 45 degree piece and draw a circle.
Although already familiar with a slide square, this video is a great reminder of what you can do with it and of course without spending a “gazillion” dollars for a plethora of shiny “red” instruments...😉 Thanks again for sharing your knowledge...🤓

Hey Jeff! Go with the combination square. :)

You can also use the square as a compass to draw circles.

I just bought this item 5 years ago for leveling and a ruler but after watching this video got shock because of so manu use of this tools
Perfect! You are the maestro of expansion.
Thankyou and what a great explanation…
I've used the scribe for metalworking with the square, mark cut lines with it.
Yes, I think it works better on metal than wood. :)
Pin makes it easy to use chisel on the line drawn. Pencil is error prone.
Just bought mine! I am no handyman but fine this fascinating!!!
It is isn't it!
Grat Video, thanks.
