Thanks to the genius Albert Swanson, who in 1925 invented this wonderful device !!! I still have my very fist speed square, given to me as part of my fitst carpentry kit, its 17 years old and still going !! I tend to keep and use it in and around the house these days though. Every tool box should have one. Thanks for the Very helpful vid !!
Despite visual only, i find this concise demo much easier than other video clips to understand and to remember most functionalities this tool offers. Many thanks 👍
A simple but amazingly productive and dare I say it essential tool to have, I’ve been watching probably more videos than I should about speed squares, and have learnt to appreciate it more than ever
I'm building my tool set one purchase/ project at a time, and this video came along just in time to finally decide on a square tool. Versatility is important and this speed square video helped so much! Thanks! 😁
How mad is that?! I’m doing the same thing myself Louisa. Just bought the square on the advice of a neighbor. I’m attempting to fit some skirting boards tomorrow, along with the new circular saw I have bought too. It’s great when you start accumulating tools again. I’m more organized now , so hopefully I’ll be more careful with them 👍👍👍🇬🇧.
Didn't see the point in a speed square but haven't put it down since I finally got one, amazingly useful and even more so now having seen your video. Brilliant, thanks!
This is so educational, I have a square myself and use it often but did not know all of these functions. I'm definitely going to pay attention and practice. Thank you very much.
I do siding and the difference in a fast worker and a slow one is knowledge of a speed square . Another good tool to learn is the 24 inch square. It's all you need to build a house.
@@travishanks7295 I just found my dads beat up Stanley last night and I’ve been learning lately through my apprenticeship. I immediately jumped online and started learning what all the markers are. I had no idea Hot many functions a right angle could provide. They have quick guides for all the rafter cuts and how to do everything right in their website.
Awesome!! I’m an electrician who is always wanting to grow in my trade. Thank you for the useful tips as I can think of 3 or 4 things I do quite often where these tips would make my job much easier!! Cheers
Just discovered your awesome videos... uncovered the tape measure first and option for the speed square... LOL... I was hoping that there happened to be a slide rule video in your collection because I suspect that you would rock it like a rocket scientist! Your method of creating a visual image with written support is excellent. Thanks!!!
All right, that’s pretty cool. I’ve only had a speed square for 30 years. I didn’t know if some of those features smarty-pants I love it thank you. And he says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Nice. Hope you’re still using it. I’m 69 and still using mine
I have recently bought one of these and had no idea what most of the things on it were for or how to use them, I do now. Great little device and great video too. Thank you 👍🏻
Just AMAZING the things you can do with a square. My problem is I might use something like this once or twice a year if that and i will just simply forget how to use it without watching these videos again. But Im still going to buy one anyway. They are a handy tool to have. Thx 4. the video. ✌🏻
Génial! Très intéressant. J'ai une équerre identique et je m'aperçois que je ne sais pas m'en servir correctement. Merci pour cette excellente vidéo qui apportera beaucoup de chose à beaucoup de monde j'en suis persuadé.
Woulda made a nice birfday present for me 40 years ago. I had no idea. Whatever few major woodworking projects I dreamed up over the years I just did it the knucklebusting way. Handing me a speed square was always sort of like handing a book to a guy who couldn't read. Thanks for the GREAT video! Only now do I finally get it.
We are going to need this now and the near future when prices for lumber are too high. We can reuse old real wood furniture. I always try to buy sold wood items and tools made in USA. Fun to restore them. Thanks for this video. I wonder if there is a book out there with how to use these tools, how to identify trees/wood, how to tie knots, etc.
Very instructional video, I’m amazed and thankful of people like you that offer such amazing tips for apprentices just starting their careers in the the carpentry industry. 😮👍 By the way, what is the name of the application you used on the video to check accuracy? Thanks!

All squares have a purpose.
@Sig-man Fraud but yeah, on a deck throwing up walls is where a speed square shines.
@Sig-man Fraud You framed houses?
Did you frame your own home?
Do you have a purpose?

Can you provide the link to this speed square ? Nice video.
Yep I know those. I was thought by an old school carpenter who could barely read or write but could build anything. I learned so much from him.
My popaw was like that could barely read the paper and contracted houses for a living unbelievable but could sort out any problem beautifully
