Welcome back to Life with Liz! Today I will be taking you with me as I am building a pad for trash cans. This is the first of many DIY yard projects you will be seeing this spring so make sure you are subscribed with your bell notifications on so you know when my other videos are out to motivate you. Where are your trash cans stored? In the future I would like to add a little fence coming out from the house to help hide the trash cans from when you pull up to it. Do you guys have any diy yard projects you are planning on doing this spring or summer? We have a few coming up I am excited for. I am so happy with how this trash can pad turned out. It looks so much better! I cant wait to get that fence up in the future too. If you enjoyed today’s trash can pad diy please be sure to like it and say hi in the comments. Also remember to subscribe if you haven’t already. Monday’s video is my kitchen organization and you wont want to miss it! Thank you so much for watching and have a great weekend.
@Hank Hill it was just sand. That's the only 2 products I used. I just put sand over the top and in the cracks to prevent grass from growing through. We have had no issues so far and it's been 8ish months.
Very helpful video. Now that it is a year later - how is the concrete holding up? I am interested in doing something similar, but the trash cans be sometimes heavy and I'm worried that as I push and pull them over the concrete they would break over time.
Recommend Polymeric sand to fill in between pavers. Rain will wash out the sand you put in and the pavers will be loose. Also paver edging helps keep them in place.
I plan to do this for my trash. I used to keep them in the front in front of the garage but earlier this year moved them to the side of the house (hated them being at the front). Also, planning to make pads where I have two large flower pots. Glad that I came across this video, Will be my guide.
Amazing! Yes basically the same for us. Ours would fall over during storms too and now they don't. This has held up so well for us! I would love for you to share your finished product with me on IG! It's so fun to see! Thank you so much for watching Mavis!
Good job, Liz. I am planning on doing this, but with a poured concrete slab. I also plan on pouring a small sidewalk on the side of our house this spring.
Omg you should see what some if our neighbors have 🤣 across the street they basically have a house for theirs with a roof lol! Thank you Laura! I hope pregnancy is going good 🥰
Thanks for the video. Glad to see in comments that it has held up well. I was thinking you might get some erosion around the edge. I plan on doing this over the upcoming weekend. My thought though was to try and get them flush with the surrounding grass to allow for a smooth roll onto the pad. I will see how that goes. Take care.
I think in Australia, we say barbecue, the same as you guys say grill. Is it a thing you cook meat and onions on? I am planning to make one like this for mine to sit on.
Good job! A simple "screed" would help in levelling. A) Weed blocker B)a "paver base" to eliminate using and carrying so much sand C) paver edge restrain D) slope slightly away from home E) play sand for filljng cracks F) finish off with sealer to minimize stains, mold from moisture. Side note.....i dont like the cheap soil sold in bags...."u never know what u gonna get" its like a box of chocolates. I would mixed in an organic soil topper like "kelloggs" from HD. 1 to 3 ratio (for seeds)
Curious, have you had any "large critters" try to get into the bins? If so how do you keep the lids shut from letting them get in? Other than that, great video but I'm gunna use my temper and level to level it all out.
That looks really nice and not too difficult. BTW, it would be nice to have a list of all items used: tools, purchases, and so on. I noticed that a few questions were asked regarding this. Thanks for this video.
Thank you so much!! It's not cold yet where I am so I will be doing this for my bbq grill!! I have most of the supplies. Going to get my pavers this weekend. I went to identify which pavers I liked last week and also measured. Now I'll buy and execute my plan. Can't wait!! No need to pay anyone to do this job. Plus it's refreshing to know I did the work😅 Thank you so much!!
Had this held up well since it’s been a year now? We have a guy in our neurons who does a true poured concrete pad for trash cans, but this would be way cheaper if it doesn’t settle over time.
@@LifewithLiz I know what he's talking about. I did mine exactly like yours 6 years ago and the pavers shifted and became slightly unlevel over time. I redid it 2 years ago with a coarse paver base under the sand and also used the plastic form pieces around the outer edges. There is no chance for the pavers to shift now. I guess it all depends on how much you care about how finished it looks. It still served it's purpose with the uneven pavers, I just didn't like the way it looked. Thanks for posting up your video!!

Doing this now! Thanks for the video!
This seems simple and less permanent than an addition to my driveway. Thanks for the idea
It definitely is and it has held up perfectly for a year and a half old now.
Good job I thought about pouring concrete but I might do this👍🏾
Highly suggest it's going on 2 years and looks the exact same
Good video
Thank you!
I’m doing this diy this weekend. Thanks 🎉
I hope your project went well!
Great Job 👍

Great job; doing mine this upcoming weekend!!!! Can’t wait 😜
Thank you so much! You will love how it turns out I am sure 🙂
This is what I needed! I'm doing mines this weekend.
It's alot of work but so worth it!!
Good job, Liz. I am planning on doing this, but with a poured concrete slab. I also plan on pouring a small sidewalk on the side of our house this spring.
Yes those are good ideas too
Love this! Great job. Want to see photos from one year later (now).
Thank you Suzanne! It looks exactly the same. It has held up amazing. No grass has even grown through.
LIKED THE DIY THIS IS MY NEXT PROJECT SOON TKS
I didn't even know this was a thing! You are so hands on because I would never think to do this myself so, go you😅❤

Your yard looks very similar ton mines. This helps so much. I'm working on this very project tomorrow.
That's awesome! You'll love the end result ❤️
Nice Job! Looking to do the same thing!
I love this easy diy idea I can’t wait to try it!!
Thank you Tamika! It's been almost a year and it looks exactly as it did when I finished it. No grass issues or anything I'm super happy I did it ❤
Nice project! Really enjoyed the guidance and the music! I am going to do the same. Turned out fantasric. Look forward to more ❤
Looks great! I am working on a grill paver pad!
Thank you! This would be the perfect grill pad ❤

For that little bit i would have just spent the money on sod but that's just me but the pad looks great.
Think i might do this for my bbq.
You'll love it I'm sure! Ours still looks the exact same and is holding up perfectly nearly a year later ❤
@@LifewithLiz great news!
This is such a good idea!!! How is it holding up if you still have it. I see this was 2 years ago
Love it!! It looks amazing!!
Thank you so much Sammie! ❤
Love it. Looks so good. I have a lot of outdoor stuff planned too!!
Thank you! You do so great with your projects I can't wait to see what you do! 🥰
Liz what size pavers did you use for this project? The pavers are so heavy as they get bigger but you make this look easy!
These look like 16x16
Wow thats a really cool idea! Neat how you turn a random spot into something cute and functional😊
Thank you!! It is definitely a much needed face-lift 🥰 I appericate your support ❤

That’s so cool but next time you should use a tamper it works well

Trash can privacy fence next perhaps??
We probably won't but that would look great!

How do you prevent these from tipping over on windy days?
Hi! I’m thinking of doing this to our house. How are the pavers holding up after 2 years 😂?
Perfect they are exactly the same still have no grass grown through or anything 😀
Need to compact the sand down and maybe a weed barrier may help.
Been 2 years and no grass has came through so what I did must have worked lol

Did you ever do the fence? I couldn't find it on your channel.
I store ours behind our front fence. I'm going to be pouring a cement foundation for them. I'd do this but it's such a PitA to get it perfectly level.
How has it held up over the past year?
Yes, it looks the exact same. No grass has even grown through
Hi Liz !! About how many bags of sand did you need to use?!
I used 3 bags of sand and it has held up great! No grass has grown through or anything 😍
What size papers did you use?
Looks like if it gets too windy the trash cans are going to roll forward
