- www.magpiegemst... In this video I describe how to bundle round wires for a border wrap. A border wrap is a techbnique in wire wrapped jewelry to capture a cabochon. Usually square wire is used but I like the look of the design elements I can create with round wire and it sometimes can be unruly in this application. I have yet to try this but I will. And all those new folks landing here, don't worry about your tool marks. All my works has a few of them. It's hard to see past tool marks on designs from the creator view point. In time they will give your work a unique look. They can be cleaned up, filed, sanded, polished or tumbled. After many years my work still has them. The trick is not to hold on to it but let em become part of the piece your working on.
Great video!
Awesome tip! I love that you just get to the point! Will subscribe and watch other videos. Thanks. ;)
I also learnt on my own and did it the hard way.The good thing about that is that I have come up with designs or techniques I have never seen anyone else do! Thanks for the kind words and I am getting more videos ready in this series.
I think the trick with round is to use a smaller gauge for the binding wires and not to hit every turn too hard with the pliers. Good luck, I hope it works out! (oh and make sure the wire is dead soft).
I love the way you explain things u r wonderful . Thank you for all you teach . love lots .
Your usual clear instructions, Szarka. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise. You give exactly the right amount of explanation and anticipate our questions. Thanks again.
Oh thanks for your kind words I appreciate them.
Thank you for this video. I was learning and used round and round and it came out so good i had to keep it. I wrapped a half geode and everyone that notices it loves it.I have a few tool marks and have a couple ideas how to prevent that in the future. I made them when I pulled the wires forward and back to lock in the geode. Thanks again.

Thank you for this! Great details, you explained so many mistakes I'm making that are frustrating me. Now to practice some more!
Thank you so much for this video! I have been struggling with wire twisting on me for weeks! This helps sooooo much!
Thank you so much one of the most clear and understandableexplanations I've ever come across and great tips as well!
Thank you, your explanation was very clear and easy to follow.
Szarka, thank you for sharing such a great tip!
You have some of the best tutorials! THank you!!!!
Hi, I did enjoy this tutorial, very well explained. Thankyou
The reasons to tumble metal - to harden it, to clean it, and to remove burrs and you need to do all of those things at certain times to copper.
Yes I am not even close to a professional videographer .... snort. We keep doing our best to improve them.My daughter (10) is my photographer and she is growing in leaps and bounds daily in her skill set.
I get my copper from hardware stores, recycle yards, and when I need square of half round I buy it from jewelry supply shops.
Awesome, I would love to see it. I don't know which crystal you mean. If you mean the red cab that was wrapped you can see it on my website under sold wire art but youtube won't let me post a link so you will have to type it in your browser or search for szarkas jewelry. Heck they won't even let me type 3 w's. LOL
Gayle, I recomend starting to play right away. On my website I have a blog post on how to begin wire wrapping. They won't let me post a link here but it's under "blog trade articles" on the left menu on my website magpiegemstonescom. Thanks for the kind words they are very appreciated.
I have thought and thought about how to show bail (top) wraps but that is so different for every piece I am still thinking on it. Best bet is to go searching images of wrapped cabochons and you will see so many variations on bails you will see what I mean.
In the videos I did after that I wore no sleeves so people could see the wire wrapping easier. Hopefully they will just keep getting better instead of worse (grin). I appreciate the kind words.
You know I don't think it would stop the wires from twisting but I have never tried it so give it a go and let me know! Sorry it took me so long to respond we moved and closed up shop for a few months.
I am not sure I think so. You can see a history of all my work on my blog Jewelry by Szarka. Just give it a google as youtube won't let me post a link.
Oh thanks for taking the time to comment. I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad I could offer any insights at all.
Oh I am sorry it can be frustrating. Maybe go one gauge up onthe square wire and the half round.
Your welcome. I am glad I could offer something people found valuable.
I didn't for a long time as I started out crocheting. LOL
I don't recall, it is probably 21 guage 1/2 round.
I have and more will be coming this winter.
Thanks I appreciate that you like the tuts!
Try google searching jewelry by szarka
I am still working on that tutorial.
Seriously, You explain things wonderfully.Thank You! But..I wonder how you wrap the top..I am sure it's much the same but I need a clear picture of what happens~ I am a beginner as well and like what comes from my own creative flow yet I still need a hand in some of the how to's..lol Thank you again Mag's You really know how to show the tricky stuff..sometimes not so tricky yet you still understand what we need so it makes since! You rock!!
Thanks I appreciate the kind words.
You are brilliant. This is exactly what I needed. I was treating the wire like thread. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Lol. Probably because I am a seamstress. I work with a lot of thread. My favorite statement of yours, "The wire will behave like metal." Why I ask, did I not come to this very obvious conclusion on my own?!?!?! Your awesome.
Thanks so much you really take something that can be very difficult and make it less challenging or in an easier form something like that. I just know I appreciate your sharing and I love your work. I get so frustrated with it I give up to soon. Practice Practice Practice !
Thanks Szarka for explaining this so well to a newbie. It makes me hungry for more tutorials. LOL. I hope to be as good as you one day . I still have not gotten all my tool & gotten startd. I am trying to learn as much as I can first so I can do it the right way to begin with.
Thanks for the video tip. Very clear & great camera angle.
Great tutorial. Clear and easy to understand. One question: for someone with arthritis in their hands, would using a small clamp at each side of the wrap area be helpful to keep the round wires in line and help to avoid twisting?
In this instance I am using a half round to bind (you can use round to bind round but it's a struggle) - yes always put the flat part of the half round against the item you are binding.
I am appreciate your question - thanks for letting me clarify.
I'm still trying to learn to use the square wire and half round wire for the bundles. I am horrible at it so far. I still can't get the wires straight enough to keep them perfectly from overlapping as I wrap even with the square wire.
Thank you so much for explaining this. It is always the tiny tiny points that make a huge difference. I tried with round two days ago and got so frustrated I went back to square. I'll try the round again.
Great tips'...( I was a looper, instead of a pincher!!! and...''Hooray for NO tape!..lol...Eyeballing is my style too,... Excited to try my next BIG pendant now...minus the frustraaaaationnnn!!! :))
Thank you for the video. I made a boarder wiring for a laberdorite and it came out awesome. I really love the amethyst that you wired. May I see an up close picture of that crystal?
This is by far the clearest and best demonstrated video I have seen for this kind of wrapping. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise with us.
so you wrap the full round wires with the half round one/ And do you put the flat side of the half round against the round wires or the round part of the half round? Thanks!
Just wanted to let you know that your tutorials are very helpful. I started this craft without direction (and pulled a lot of hair out LOL). Thank you... NCB
Thank you for the time you have taken to show us your craft. I have learned on my own, of course, I have done it the hard way.
Please continue to show us ....
Was the finished piece you were using as an example made from round wire? Would sure loved to have had a closer look at that one. It's gorgeous!
You are most helpful ,and very informative...a great, kind ,caring artist! That is you! thank you..for all the tips..the newbies need them!
So many people charge money now just to show us how to do something, and I cannot thank you enough for sharing your expertise with us!
You are awesome Szarka!! Ty soooo much for all you do for us!! I can only hope to become as good as you someday!!!!! Much Love! Anita

I actually learned how to do this with only round wire, because I had it on hand. It isn't impossible, it is irritating..
That was a very good introducing into wire wrapping for a new beginner , thanks ever so much for your tutorial
